Solutions are presented for the one- and two-dimensional Griffith crack problems in non-local elasticity. The displacements and stresses are determined in an elastic plate, weakened by a sharpedged line crack. The plate is loaded by a uniform tension perpendicular to the line of the crack at infinity. The non-local elastic solutions yield a finite hoop stress at the crack tip, thus allowing for a fracture criterion based on the maximum stress hypothesis.  相似文献

With the recent success of nonlocal theories in modeling of engineering problems involving small intrinsic length scales, such as modeling of crack propagation, this paper addresses issues pertaining to cost-ineffectiveness of Eringen’s integral model. The cost effectiveness of the computation may be considered as a twofold issue; one pertaining to the non-local model and another pertaining to the numerical tool. First of all, we shall show that during the solution of problems with Eringen’s non-local integral model, there is no need to consider the integral model for the whole computational domain. In fact, the problems may be solved by just using the integral model close to the boundaries, i.e. a boundary layer effect, or around the points with singularities. In this paper we propose a partitioning strategy to remarkably reduce the computational cost. This may be considered as a gateway for solving some types of two-scale problems, e.g. those with macro/micro and nano scales, in which the small scale effects are localized just at parts of the domain. To demonstrate the efficiency of the numerical tools, we examine the performance of the finite element method (FEM), the element free Galerkin method (EFG) and the finite point method (FPM). This paves the way for using mesh-free methods in the solution of problems with non-local integral models. Examples with smooth and non-smooth solutions are considered for examining the efficiency of the methods. It will be shown that, by considering the boundary layer effect, the FEM and FPM will be efficient enough for being used in problems defined by Eringen’s non-local integral model.

In this work, the solvability of a class of second-order Hamiltonian systems on time scales is generalized to non-local boundary conditions. The measurements obtained by non-local conditions are more accurate than those given by local conditions in some problems. Compared with the known results, this work establishes the variational structure in an appropriate Sobolev’s space. Then, by applying the mountain pass theorem and symmetric mountain pass theorem, the existence and multiplicity of the s...  相似文献

Non-local plane elasticity problems are discussed in the context of Λ-fractional linear elasticity theory. Adapting the Λ-fractional derivative along with the Λ-fractional space, where geometry and mechanics are valid in the conventional way, non-local plane elasticity problems are solved with the help of biharmonic functions. Then, the results are transferred into the initial plane.Applications are presented to homogeneous and the fractional beam bending problem.  相似文献

In this paper, we are interested in the connection between some stochastic games, namely the tug-of-war games, and non-local PDEs on graphs. We consider a general formulation of tug-of-war games related to many continuous PDEs. Using the framework of partial difference equations, we transcribe this formulation on graph, and show that it encompasses several PDEs on graphs such as the ∞-Laplacian, the game p-Laplacian with and without gradient terms, and the eikonal equation. We then interpret these discrete games as non-local tug-of-war games. The proposed framework is illustrated with general interpolation problems on graphs.  相似文献

Starting from a Cauchy elastic composite with a dilute suspension of randomly distributed inclusions and characterized at first-order by a certain discrepancy tensor (see part I of the present article), it is shown that the equivalent second-gradient Mindlin elastic solid: (i) is positive definite only when the discrepancy tensor is negative defined; (ii) the non-local material symmetries are the same of the discrepancy tensor, and (iii) the non-local effective behaviour is affected by the shape of the RVE, which does not influence the first-order homogenized response. Furthermore, explicit derivations of non-local parameters from heterogeneous Cauchy elastic composites are obtained in the particular cases of: (a) circular cylindrical and spherical isotropic inclusions embedded in an isotropic matrix, (b) n-polygonal cylindrical voids in an isotropic matrix, and (c) circular cylindrical voids in an orthotropic matrix.  相似文献

A thermodynamic framework endowed with the concept of non-locality residual is adopted to derive non-local models of integral-type for non-homogeneous linear elastic materials. Two expressions of the free energy are considered: the former yields a one-component non-local stress, the latter leads to a two-component local–non-local stress since the stress is expressed as the sum of the classical local stress and of a non-local component identically vanishing in the case of constant strains. The attenuation effects are accounted for by a symmetric space weight function which guarantees the constant strain requirement as well as the dual constant stress condition everywhere in the body. The non-local and non-homogeneous elastic structural boundary-value problem under quasi-static loads is addressed in a geometrically linear range. The complete set of variational formulations for the structural problem is then provided in a unitary framework. The solution uniqueness of the non-local structural model is proved and the non-local FEM is addressed starting from the non-local counterpart of the total potential energy. Numerical applications are provided with reference to a non-homogeneous bar in tension using the Fredholm integral equation and the non-local FEM. The solutions show no pathological features such as numerical instability and mesh sensitivity for degraded bar conditions.  相似文献

A novel Volume-Compensated Particle model (VCPM) is proposed for the modeling of deformation and fracture in solids. In this proposed method, two potentials are introduced to model the interactions between material particles, i.e., a local pair-wise potential and a non-local multi-body potential. The local pair-wise potential is utilized to account for the constitutive relationship within the connecting bonds between particles while the non-local multi-body potential is employed for considering the volumetric effects under general mechanical loadings. The potential coefficients are determined by matching the potential energy stored in a discrete unit cell to the strain energy at the classical continuum level. A volume conservation scheme is proposed to model the plastic deformation. The validity of the proposed model is tested against the classical elasticity and elasto-plasticity benchmarks before its application to fracture problems. Several conclusions are drawn based on the proposed study.  相似文献

This paper discusses the application of the variable length scale concept in the framework of non-local fractional model. The considerations are motivated by the fact that real material characteristic dimension is never uniform and simultaneously the problem of existence of the virtual boundary layer in the boundary value problems, discussed in previous papers, is removed. The considerations are illustrated with a series of analyses of 1D elasticity problems. Nonetheless, the conclusions are applicable for an arbitrary configurations.  相似文献

In this paper, a gradient-enhanced 3-D phenomenological model for shape memory alloys using the non-local theory is developed based on a 1-D constitutive model. The method utilizes a non-local field variable in its constitutive framework with an implicit gradient formulation in order to achieve results independent of the finite element discretization. An efficient numerical approach to implement the non-local gradient-enhanced model in finite element codes is proposed. The model is used to simulate stress drop at the onset of transformation, and its performance is evaluated using different experimental data. The potential of the presented numerical approach for behavior of shape memory alloys in eliminating mesh-dependent simulations is validated by conducting various localization problems. The numerical results show that the developed model can simulate the observed unstable behaviors such as stress drop and deviation of local strain from global strain during nucleation and propagation of martensitic phase.  相似文献

A non-local continuum model for strain-softening simply taking plastic strain or damage variable as a non-local variable is derived by using the additive decomposition principle of finite deformation gradient. At the same time, variational equations, their finite element formulations and numerical convoluted integration algorithm of the model in current configuration usually called co-moving coordinate system are given. Stability and convergence of the model are proven by means of the weak convergence theorem of general function and the convoluted integration theory. Mathematical and physical properties of the characteristic size for material or structure are accounted for within the context of a statistical weighted or kernel function, and way is investigated. Numerical simulation shows that this model is suitable for to analyzing deformation localization problems.

In this paper, we present a non-local non-linear finite element formulation for the Timoshenko beam theory. The proposed formulation also takes into consideration the surface stress effects. Eringen׳s non-local differential model has been used to rewrite the non-local stress resultants in terms of non-local displacements. Geometric non-linearities are taken into account by using the Green–Lagrange strain tensor. A C0 beam element with three degrees of freedom has been developed. Numerical solutions are obtained by performing a non-linear analysis for bending and free vibration cases. Simply supported and clamped boundary conditions have been considered in the numerical examples. A parametric study has been performed to understand the effect of non-local parameter and surface stresses on deflection and vibration characteristics of the beam. The solutions are compared with the analytical solutions available in the literature. It has been shown that non-local effect does not exist in the nano-cantilever beam (Euler–Bernoulli beam) subjected to concentrated load at the end. However, there is a significant effect of non-local parameter on deflections for other load cases such as uniformly distributed load and sinusoidally distributed load (Cheng et al. (2015) [10]). In this work it has been shown that for a cantilever beam with concentrated load at free end, there is definitely a dependency on non-local parameter when Timoshenko beam theory is used. Also the effect of local and non-local boundary conditions has been demonstrated in this example. The example has also been worked out for other loading cases such as uniformly distributed force and sinusoidally varying force. The effect of the local or non-local boundary conditions on the end deflection in all these cases has also been brought out.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the development of a thermodynamic approach to constitutive modelling of concrete materials, with emphasis on the use of non-local damage models. Effort is put on the construction of a consistent and rigorous thermodynamic framework, which readily allows the incorporation of non-local features into the constitutive modelling. This is an important feature in developing non-local constitutive models based on thermodynamics. Examples of non-local constitutive models derived from this framework and numerical examples are given to demonstrate the promising features of the proposed approach.  相似文献

The effect of non-locality on the Peierls stress of a dislocation, predicted within the framework of the Peierls-Nabarro model, is investigated. Both the integral formulation of non-local elasticity and the gradient elasticity model are considered. A modification of the non-local kernel of the integral formulation is proposed and its effect on the dislocation core shape and size, and on the Peierls stress are discussed. The new kernel is longer ranged and physically meaningful, improving therefore upon the existing Gaussian-like non-locality kernels. As in the original Peierls-Nabarro model, lattice trapping cannot be captured in the purely continuum non-local formulation and therefore, a semi-discrete framework is used. The constitutive law of the elastic continuum and that of the glide plane are considered both local and non-local in separate models. The major effect is obtained upon rendering non-local the constitutive law of the continuum, while non-locality in the rebound force law of the glide plane has a marginal effect. The Peierls stress is seen to increase with increasing the intrinsic length scale of the non-local formulation, while the core size decreases accordingly. The solution becomes unstable at intrinsic length scales larger than a critical value. Modifications of the rebound force law entail significant changes in the core configuration and critical stress. The discussion provides insight into the issue of internal length scale selection in non-local elasticity models.  相似文献

The dynamic behavior ofa Griffith permeable crack under harmonic anti-plane shearwaves in the piezoelectric materials is investigated by use of the non-local theory. To overcome themathematical difficulties,a one-dimensional non-local kernel is used instead of a two-dimensionalone for the anti-plane dynamic problem to obtain the stress and the electric displacement near thecrack tips.By means of Fourier transform, the problem can be solved with a pair of dual integralequations that the unknown variable is the jump of the displacement across the crack surfaces. These equations are solved with the Schmidt method and numerical examples are provided.Con-trary to the previous results,it is found that no stress and electric displacement singularities arepresent at the crack tip.The finite hoop stress and the electric displacement depend on the cracklength, the lattice parameter of the materials and the circle frequency of the incident waves.Thisenables us to employ the maximum stress hypothesis to deal with fracture problems in a naturalway.  相似文献

A numerical approach to model 3D impact scenarios on concrete structures is presented and validated by experimental investigations. Special focus is given to dynamic contact modeling of an impactor loading a concrete plate at very high velocity. In this context, the main aspect is the elimination of non-physical oscillations of the kinematic fields by using an updated Newmark integration scheme. Two Lagrangian multipliers are used for this update which successfully reduces the unphysical oscillations of the above mentioned fields. In a further step, the material behavior of concrete is described by the microplane model introducing a new rate-dependent non-local damage formulation. Using the equivalent strain as a non-local field, the method is able to model, in an adequate manner so that the crack pattern in concrete is represented by the damage evolution in case of transient problems. The accuracy is validated and proved by the help of benchmark simulations as well as the observed phenomena to experimental investigations.  相似文献

The effects of void size and hardening in a hexagonal close-packed single crystal containing a cylindrical void loaded by a far-field equibiaxial tensile stress under plane strain conditions are studied. The crystal has three in-plane slip systems oriented at the angle 60° with respect to one another. Finite element simulations are performed using a strain gradient crystal plasticity formulation with an intrinsic length scale parameter in a non-local strain gradient constitutive framework. For a vanishing length scale parameter the non-local formulation reduces to a local crystal plasticity formulation. The stress and deformation fields obtained with a local non-hardening constitutive formulation are compared to those obtained from a local hardening formulation and to those from a non-local formulation. Compared to the case of the non-hardening local constitutive formulation, it is shown that a local theory with hardening has only minor effects on the deformation field around the void, whereas a significant difference is obtained with the non-local constitutive relation. Finally, it is shown that the applied stress state required to activate plastic deformation at the void is up to three times higher for smaller void sizes than for larger void sizes in the non-local material.  相似文献
