A pulsed anodic etching method has been utilized for nanostructuring of p-type GaAs (1 0 0) surface, using HCl-based solution as electrolyte. The resulting porous GaAs layer is characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM), room temperature photoluminescence (PL), Raman spectroscopy and optical reflectance measurements. AFM imaging reveals that the porous GaAs layer is consisted of a pillar-like of few nm in width distributed between more-reduced size nanostructures. In addition to the “infrared” PL band of un-etched GaAs, a strong “green” PL band is observed in the etched sample. The broad visible PL band of a high-energy (3.82 eV) excitation is found to compose of two PL band attributed to excitons confinement in two different sizes distribution of GaAs nanocrystals. The quantum confinement effects in GaAs nanocrystallites is also evidenced from Raman spectroscopy through the pronounced appearance of the transverse optical (TO) phonon line in the spectra of the porous sample. Porosity-induced a significant reduction of the specular reflection, in the spectral range (400–800 nm), is also demonstrated.  相似文献

The subject of this paper is the determination of attenuation coefficients of single mode optical fiber standards used in both loss and distance scales calibrations of OTDR instruments by applying “cut-back” method, and “loop transit time” measurements. In cut-back measurements a modified radiometer with InGaAs having 5 mm diameter active area, cooled to 77 K, was constructed and used. To derive attenuation coefficients after the completion of cut-back measurements, the loop transit time measurements were performed for standard fibers. Total expanded uncertainty was calculated as 3.30×10-3 for determination of attenuation coefficients.  相似文献

We report on magnetooptical studies of II–VI semiconductor quantum wells with a parabolic shape of the potential grown on the basis of Cd1−xMnxTe. Photoluminescence excitation measurements revealed a series of peaks equidistant in energy associated with interband optical transitions between “harmonic oscillator states”. We observed the Zeeman splitting for heavy-hole excitons up to the subband index n=5. From the comparison of the experimental data with numerical calculations for the Zeeman splitting it was possible to determine the correct shape of the potential.  相似文献

The growth and morphological evolution of molybdenum-oxide microstructures formed in the high temperature environment of a counter-flow oxy-fuel flame using molybdenum probes is studied. Experiments conducted using various probe retention times show the sequence of the morphological changes. The morphological row begins with micron size objects exhibiting polygonal cubic shape, develops into elongated channels, changes to large structures with leaf-like shape, and ends in dendritic structures. Time of probe–flame interaction is found to be a governing parameter controlling the wide variety of morphological patterns; a molecular level growth mechanism is attributed to their development. This study reveals that the structures are grown in several consecutive stages: material “evaporation and transportation”, “transformation”, “nucleation”, “initial growth”, “intermediate growth”, and “final growth”. XRD analysis shows that the chemical compositions of all structures correspond to MoO2.  相似文献

A new approach to the theory of temporal aberration for cathode lenses is given in the present paper. A definition of temporal aberration is given in which a certain initial energy of electron emission along the axial direction εz1 (0εz1ε0max) is considered. A new method to calculate the temporal aberration coefficients of cathode lenses named “direct integral method” is also presented. The “direct integral method” gives new expressions of the temporal aberration coefficients which are expressed in integral forms. The difference between “direct integral method” and “τ-variation method” is that the “τ-variation method” needs to solve the differential equations for the three of temporal geometrical aberration coefficients of second order, while the “direct integral method” only needs to carry out the integral calculation for all of these temporal aberration coefficients of second order. All of the formulae of the temporal aberration coefficients deduced from “direct integral method” and “τ-variation method” have been verified by an electrostatic concentric spherical system model, and contrasted with the analytical solutions. Results show that these two methods have got identical solutions and the solutions of temporal aberration coefficients of the first and second order are the same as with the analytical solutions. Although some forms of the results seem different, but they can be transformed into the same form. Thus, it can be concluded these two methods given by us are equivalent and correct, but the “direct integral method” is related to solve integral equations, which is more convenient for computation and could be suggested for use in practical design.  相似文献

This paper deals with the spectral dependence and time variability of Ångström wavelength exponent scaling law (α), which is the spectral varying slope of the logarithmic relationship between aerosol optical depths (τ) and the wavelength (λ). It is commonly used to retrieve intensive air masses optical properties such as aerosol size distribution from extensive quantities (τ) and Ångström turbidity coefficient (β). This spectral variation of α is studied at different wavelengths from measurements taken by ground-based sun photometer covering from near-infrared to ultraviolet range. We analyze the spectral measurement of aerosols optical depths at eight specific selected wavelengths from 340 to 1020 nm using the sun photometer measurements from AErosol RObotic NETwork (AERONET) from NASA. Data from the entire year 2000 were used from instruments deployed at two different sites covering the regions of Argentina as northcentral at Cordoba CETT (31.5S, 64.4W) and “pampa húmeda” at Buenos Aires CEILAP (34.5S, 58.5W). A new approach of Ångström wavelength exponent spectral variation was developed to take into account with a more accurate precision the significant curvature appearing in the logarithmic relation between τ and λ. Using the direct spectral solar radiation set, time series of Ångström coefficient of turbidity and wavelength scaling law was computed with a day to day data base clustering with uncertainty lower than 0.01 in the optical depth reconstruction over the bulk sun photometer measurements. Temporal series of constant and spectral dependence of wavelength exponent scaling law and turbidity coefficient was derived and shown to vary in space and time. Different meteorological forcing for both sites was evidenced using a regression coefficient analysis to well assess the spectral dependence of wavelength exponent coefficient due to the different cumulating mode of particles and air masses origin at different sites. This spectral decomposition is a key issue in aerosols analysis of steady state and regional scale intrusion episodes with strong connection to their potential contribution of pollution episodes in air-quality problems on urban environment.  相似文献

Highly crystalline metal oxide nanoparticles of TiO2, WO3, and V2O5 were synthesized in just a few minutes by reacting transition metal chloride with benzyl alcohol using ultrasonic irradiation under argon atmosphere in a non-aqueous solvent. The sonochemical process was conducted at a relatively low temperature, 363 K. A unique crystallization process of these nanoparticles has been observed and characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), high resolution scanning electron microscopy (HRSEM), and BET. The particles’ size and shape measured from HRSEM reveal “quasi” zero-dimensional, spherical TiO2 particles in the range of 3–7 nm. The V2O5 particles have a “quasi” one-dimensional ellipsoidal morphology, with lengths in the range of 150–200 nm and widths varying between 40 and 60 nm. The WO3 particles were obtained as “quasi” two-dimensional platelets with square shapes having facets ranging from 30 to 50 nm. The thickness of these platelets was between 2 and 7 nm. The mechanism of the reactions leading to these three metal oxide nanoparticles in a non-aqueous system is substantiated by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), and Electron Spin Resonance (ESR).  相似文献

Polarized 3He spin-filters are currently employed on a wide range of neutron instruments at the ILL, primarily for diffraction, reflectometry and fundamental physics. A wide range of recent and ongoing improvements are enabling the implementation of this technique for wide-angle polarization analysis for inelastic measurements. These include
• Progress in metastability-exchange optical pumping (MEOP), resulting in on-beam polarization levels of up to 80%.
• 1st generation “Pastis-1” coils for rotating the neutron polarization at the sample position, allowing for “XYZ” polarization analysis.
• 2nd generation “Pastis-2” coils with no blind angles in the equatorial plane.
• Spin-filter cells with glued silicon windows, allowing for wide-angle “banana” cells with very low background scattering.
• Polarization-preserving capillaries for transferring polarized 3He gas into the cell without manual access.
The development of capillary transfer also allows for a completely new way of working with 3He spin-filters: connecting the cells on the instruments directly to the MEOP filling station several tens of meters away and allowing for quasi-continuous operation.  相似文献

The idea of “common path” has been widely applied in optical instrument design for 30 years and even today. But the meaning of “common path” has not yet been explained clearly and sometimes confusion has been created. In this paper an “adaptive principle” is proposed and recommended on optical instrument system. It suggests that the designer not only arranges the measurement system to obtain measurement signal but also sets a channel to give prediction of noise or disturbance in real time or short term. Such a recommendation is based on the recent studies on nonlinear dynamics and atmospheric disturbance by means of experiments as well as theoretical analysis.  相似文献

Market Mill is a complex dependence pattern leading to nonlinear correlations and predictability in intraday dynamics of stock prices. The present paper puts together previous efforts to build a dynamical model reflecting the market mill asymmetries. We show that certain properties of the conditional dynamics at a single time scale such as a characteristic shape of an asymmetry-generating component of the conditional probability distribution result in the “elementary” market mill pattern. This asymmetry-generating component matches the empirical distribution obtained from the market data. Multiple time scale considerations make the resulting “composite” mill similar to the empirical market mill patterns. Multiscale model also reflects a multi-agent nature of the market. Interpretation of variations of asymmetry patterns of individual stocks in terms of specific deformations of the fundamental market mill asymmetry patterns is described.  相似文献

The extended 4×4 Gaussian bracket matrix Gij represents the lowest order quantity of “aberration coefficient tensor quantities” which are defined to as the peculiarity of off-axial optical systems and are independent of azimuths. We newly confirmed this extended 4×4 Gaussian bracket matrix of deflection (refraction or reflection), transmission and “twisting.” The result determined by use of a new representative method of asymmetrical surfaces and a method of paraxial expansion along the folded reference axis shows that the 4×4 Gaussian bracket matrix is the extended form of the 2x2 Gaussian bracket matrix which is used in co-axial rotational symmetric optical systems. Furthermore, we analyze and formalize the crossterm effects, which are the most serious problem in optical systems having multiple off-axial surfaces, using the concept of a chain of “optical systems divided into former and latter” and the vector-tensor analysis method. The result of this analysis reveals the structure of the cross-term effects and proves the usefulness of the vector-tensor analysis method in general image analysis.  相似文献

The possibility of using commercial PIV equipment combined with schlieren optics to measure the velocity fields of turbulent flows is explored. Given a sufficiently high Reynolds number and adequate refractive flow differences, turbulent eddies can serve as the PIV “particles” in a schlieren image or shadowgram. The PIV software analyzes motion between consecutive schlieren or shadowgraph frames to obtain velocity fields. Velocimetry examples of an axisymmetric sonic helium jet in air and a 2D turbulent boundary layer at Mach 3 are shown. Due to optical path integration, axisymmetric flows require the inverse Abel transform to extract center-plane velocity data. Conditions for optimum schlieren sensitivity are examined. In its present embodiment, “schlieren PIV” is not useful for laminar flows nor for fully 3D flows. Otherwise it functions much like standard PIV under conditions where individual particles are not resolved and velocimetry is instead based on correlation of the motion of turbulent structures. “Schlieren PIV” shows significant promise for general refractive turbulent flow velocimetry if its integrative nature can be overcome through sharp-focusing optics.  相似文献

In this paper we describe a three-dimensional (3D) continuous wave (CW) diffuse optical tomography (DOT) system and present 3D volumetric reconstruction studies using this DOT system with simple phantom models that simulate hand joints. The CCD-based DOT system consists of 64×64 source/detector fiber optic channels, which are arranged in four layers, forming a cylindrical fiber optic/tissue interface. Phantom experiments are used to evaluate system performance with respective to axial spatial resolution, optical contrast and target position for detection of osteoarthritis where cartilage is the primary target region of interest. These phantom studies suggest that we are able to quantitatively resolve a 2 mm thick “cartilage” and qualitatively resolve a 1 mm thick “cartilage” using our 3D reconstruction approach. Our results also show that optical contrast of 3:1–7:1 between the “disease cartilage” and normal cartilage can be quantitatively recovered. Finally, the target position along axial direction on image reconstruction is studied. All the images are obtained using our 3D finite-element-based reconstruction algorithm.  相似文献

There is a commonly perceived difference in the sound produced in the approximate range D4-D5 by female singers in the western opera and concert tradition, on the one hand, and certain other styles, including rock, pop, folk, and some Broadway musicals, on the other. The term “belting” is sometimes used to refer to at least one approach to such “nonclassical” singing. In this study, based on spectrographic, electroglottographic, and sub- and supraglottal pressure measurements on representative voices of the “operatic” and “nonclassical” tradition, acoustic and laryngeal differences between the two traditions are described, and an objective, specific definition of “belting” is offered.  相似文献

A canonical formalism of the dynamics of interacting spherically symmetric Yang-Mills and gravitational fields is presented. The work is based on Dirac's technique for constrained hamiltonian systems. The gauge freedom of the Yang-Mills field is treated in the same footing with the coordinate transformation freedom of the gravitational field. In particular, the fixation of coordinates and the fixation of the internal gauge are achieved by totally similar techniques. Two classes of spherically symmetric motions are considered: (i) the class for which the Yang-Mills potentials themselves are spherically symmetric (“manifest spherical symmetry”). In this case the results are valid for an arbitrary gauge group; and (ii) the class for which, in the SO(3) gauge group, a rotation in physical space is compensated by a rotation of equal magnitude but opposite direction in isospin space (“spherical symmetry up to a gauge transformation”). For manifest spherical symmetry the problem amounts to effectively dealing with an abelian gauge group and the most general solution of the field equations turns out to be the Reissner-Nordström metric with a Coulomb field. For spherical symmetry up to a gauge transformation the problem is more interesting. the formalism contains then, besides the gravitational variables, three pairs of functions of the radial coordinate that describe the degrees of freedom of the Yang-Mills field. Two pairs of these functions can be combined into a complex field ψ and its conjugate. The hamiltonian is then invariant under r-dependent rotations in the complex ψ-plane. The third degree of freedom plays the role of a compensating field associated with this invariance under localized U(l) rotations. The compensating field can always be brought to zero by a gauge transformation. After this is done the gauge is completely fixed but the problem remains invariant under position independent rotations in the ψ plane. Static solutions of the field equations in this gauge are of the form ψ(r) = (r) exp (iΘ) with Θ independent of position. The particular case Θ = 0 corresponds to the Wu-Yang ansatz. A nontrivial static solution can be found in closed form. The Yang-Mills field is of the generalized Wu-Yang type with an extra electric term, and the metric is the Reissner-Nordström one. It is pointed out that a Higgs field can be easily introduced in the formalism. The addition of the Higgs field does not destroy the invariance of the Hamiltonian under r-dependent rotations in the ψ-plane. The conserved quantity associated with the invariance under ψ → exp (i(const))ψ coincides with the electric charge as defined by 't Hooft in a more general context.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose that the “anomalous” optical response exhibited by GaP and InP infiltrated opals is due to the peculiar morphology shown by these materials when grown within the pores. In order to account for their optical response, we propose a new structural model consisting of a network of high dielectric spheres located in the pores of the bare opal, interconnected by cylinders of the same material. A fair agreement between the theoretical predictions using this model and the experimental measurements has been found. We also show that the inverse structure presents very interesting optical properties.  相似文献

The 3-D modeling of heads by using optical triangulation techniques is of great interest in the context of virtual reality, telecommunication and computer animation. This paper presents a structured light-based system mainly for human heads. It is named “3-D Laser Color Scanner” (3DLCS). A 3-D model is obtained with a cylindrical scan. The laser beam is switched on and off using a “light valve” and two successive CCD frames are captured, one with the laser line showing and one without. We can simplify the laser line extracting by subtracting these two images. In this system, two CCD cameras are used to avoid occlusion problems. Color information is read from the CCD when the laser light is absent. Since traditional laser scanner will miss the range data in the low-reflectance areas such as the hair area of human head, a shape from silhouette algorithm is presented to overcome this problem. Finally, we give some results using our system. The resulting model is suitable for many applications.  相似文献

This paper describes an experimental investigation of the feasibility of an “intermittent” active control approach for suppressing combustion instabilities in liquid fueled combustors. The developed controller employs a “smart” fuel injector that can modify the spray properties in response to changes in combustor operating conditions. This action weakens or breaks up the coupling between the combustion process and combustor acoustic modes oscillations, thus preventing the excitation of large amplitude instabilities. This approach differs significantly from previously proposed active control methods, both in concept and implementation, as it requires only “intermittent” modification of the combustion process by a single control action as opposed to the continuous action required by most other active control methods. The “smart” fuel injector used in this study consisted of a double-staged, air-assisted atomizer in which counter swirling, primary (inner stage) and secondary (outer stage) air streams were supplied to the injector through separate sets of tangentially oriented orifices. Control of the ratio of air mass flow rates supplied to these two stages, by use of a diverter valve, resulted in significant changes in the spray shape and its axial, tangential, and radial velocity components. This variation in spray properties of the “smart” injector was characterized for different values of the inner to outer air flow rate ratio in cold flow tests with a PDPA system. These results were then correlated with the characteristics of the “intermittently” controlled combustor. Measured quantities included the instability amplitudes, axial dependence of the mean and oscillatory heat release amplitudes, and the characteristics of the recirculation zones, which were all shown to depend on the fuel spray properties. The results of this study demonstrate the feasibility of using “smart” fuel injectors with capabilities for varying the combustion process characteristics to reduce the amplitudes of detrimental combustion instabilities in real engines to acceptable levels.  相似文献

We describe the fabrication and optical properties of a 3λ/2 InGaN/GaN-based microcavity using “upper” and “lower” silica/zirconia mirrors. The fabrication of this structure involved selective removal of an AlInN layer following multistep thinning of a free-standing GaN substrate. Photoluminescence spectra show a narrowing of the excitonic emission from InGaN/GaN quantum wells in the microcavity, giving a cavity quality factor Q exceeding 400.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the employment of a ternary line coding technique based on Ungerboeck's trellis-coded method in asynchronous optical CDMA systems. The ternary coding we use is predicated upon the equal-weight orthogonal (EWO) scheme. Each user transmits two mutually orthogonal signature sequences to represent “+1” and “−1”, respectively, and nothing is transmitted for “0”. The receiver employs a maximum-likelihood soft-decoder to select the path with minimum Euclidean distance as the preferred path. This trellis ternary coding scheme applies set partitioning with partially overlapping subsets to increase the free Euclidean distance, which considerably improves system performance. Furthermore, due to line coding technique, such scheme comprises sufficient clock information, and thus benefits for baseband timing extraction (i.e. clock recovery). Numerical results reveal that the proposed trellis ternary coding scheme can significantly reduce the error floor and allow more active users to be accommodated in the network.  相似文献
