The main goal of the present study is to prepare a titania membrane with high permeability and photocatalytic activity for environmental applications. In this investigation a mesoporous titania multilayer membrane on alumina substrate is successfully fabricated via the sol–gel processing method. The prepared titania polymeric sol for the membrane top layer has an average particle size of 11.7 nm with a narrow distribution. The resulting TiO2 multilayer membrane exhibits homogeneity with no cracks or pinholes, small pore size (4 nm), large specific surface area (83 m2/g), and small crystallite size (10.3 nm).The permeability and photocatalytic properties of the titania membrane were measured. The photoactivity of the titania membrane was examined to be 41.9% after 9 h UV irradiation based on methyl orange degradation. This measurement indicates high photocatalytic activity per unit mass of the catalyst. Through multilayer coating procedure, the photocatalytic activity of the membrane improved by 60% without sacrificing the membrane permeation. The prepared TiO2 photocatalytic membrane has a great potential in developing high efficient water treatment and reuse systems due to its multifunctional capability such as decomposition of organic pollutants and physical separation of contaminants.  相似文献

In this work, porous alumina ceramics with highly ordered capillaries were successfully fabricated by ionotropic gelation process of alginate/alumina suspensions. By varying the initial solid loading (10–30 wt%) of slurries, the porosity of alumina ceramics ranged from 60.4% to 79.5% with controlled pore size (180–315 μm). Due to the well-crosslinked macroporous structure and large specific surface areas, the porous ceramics were utilized as the photocatalyst supports of TiO2 catalysts whose photocatalytic activity was characterized by degrading methyl blue under UV irradiation. TiO2 coatings prepared by sol–gel method demonstrated excellent adhesion to the substrates. When the solid loading of supports reached 15 wt%, the TiO2 coatings showed the highest photocatalytic efficiency of 79.52%. Besides, TiO2 films possessed nearly the same photocatalytic activity as titania/water suspension. Thus, the honeycomb ceramic prepared by self-organization process holds promise for use as photocatalyst supports in water purification without recycling process of powders.  相似文献

Freestanding and crack-free titania–silica aerogels with high titanium content (i.e., Ti/Si = 1) were successfully prepared by adjusting the hydrolysis of the two alkoxide precursors to a comparable rate during the sol–gel processing. Two titania–silica aerogels were prepared by ethanol and CO2 supercritical drying methods. Well-dispersed, nanometer-sized anatase crystal domains (ca. 10 nm) were crystallized by high temperature, ethanol supercritical drying. The crystalline domains were solidly anchored to the aerogel network by Ti–O–Si bonds. Titania–silica aerogels prepared by CO2 supercritical drying method were devoid of TiO2 crystals. A molecular-level mixing was achieved and anatase TiO2 was only crystallized with difficulty by high temperature calcination (1073 K). Both aerogels were mesoporous and displayed similar open pore structure that is readily accessible to reactant molecules. However, only the titania–silica aerogel with anatase TiO2 prepared by ethanol supercritical drying was active for the gas phase, photocatalytic oxidation of volatile organic compounds (i.e., isopropanol and trichloroethylene). Catalysts prepared from Degussa P25 TiO2 displayed lower activity under similar reaction conditions.  相似文献

In the present study rare earth doped (Ln3+–TiO2, Ln = La, Ce and Nd) TiO2 nanofibers were prepared by the sol–gel electrospinning method and characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX, TEM, and UV-DRS. The photocatalytic activity of the samples was evaluated by Rhodamine 6G (R6G) dye degradation under UV light irradiation. XRD analysis showed that all the synthesized pure and doped titania nanofibers contain pure anatase phase at 500 °C but at 700 °C it shows both anatase and rutile phase. XRD result also shows that Ln3+-doped titania probably inhibits the phase transformation. The diameter of nanofibers for all samples ranges from 200 to 700 nm. It was also observed that the presence of rare-earth oxides in the host TiO2 could decrease the band gap and accelerate the separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs, which eventually led to higher photocatalytic activity. To sum up, our study demonstrates that Ln3+-doped TiO2 samples exhibit higher photocatalytic activity than pure TiO2 whereas Nd3+-doped TiO2 catalyst showed the highest photocatalytic activity among the rare earth doped samples.  相似文献

The improved photocatalyst carbon-doped WO3/TiO2 mixed oxide was synthesized in this study using the sol–gel method. The catalyst was thoroughly characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), diffuse reflectance UV–vis spectroscopy, N2 adsorption desorption analysis, scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM/EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The photocatalytic efficiency of the prepared materials was evaluated with respect to the degradation of sodium diclofenac (DCF) in a batch reactor irradiated under simulated solar light. The progress of the degradation process of the drug was evaluated by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), whereas mineralization was monitored by total organic carbon analysis (TOC) and ion chromatography (IC). The results of the photocatalytic evaluation indicated that the modified catalyst with tungsten and carbon (TWC) exhibited higher photocatalytic activity than TiO2 (T) and WO3/TiO2 (TW) in the degradation and mineralization of diclofenac (TWC>TW>T). Complete degradation of diclofenac occurred at 250 kJ m−2 of accumulated energy, whereas 82.4% mineralization at 400 kJ m−2 was achieved using the photocatalytic system WO3/TiO2-C. The improvement in the photocatalytic activity was attributed to the synergistic effect between carbon and WO3 incorporated into the TiO2 structure.  相似文献

Titanium dioxide nanoparticles prepared in situ by sol–gel method were supported on a spherical activated carbon to prepare TiO2/AC hybrid photocatalysts for the oxidation of gaseous organic compounds. Additionally, a granular activated carbon was studied for comparison purposes. In both types of TiO2/AC composites the effect of different variables (i.e., the thermal treatment conditions used during the preparation of these materials) and the UV-light wavelength used during photocatalytic oxidation were analyzed. The prepared materials were deeply characterized (by gas adsorption, TGA, XRD, SEM and photocatalytic propene oxidation). The obtained results show that the carbon support has an important effect on the properties of the deposited TiO2 and, therefore, on the photocatalytic activity of the resulting TiO2/AC composites. Thus, the hybrid materials prepared over the spherical activated carbon show better results than those prepared over the granular one; a good TiO2 coverage with a high crystallinity of the deposited titanium dioxide, which just needs an air oxidation treatment at low-moderate temperature (350–375 °C) to present high photoactivity, without the need of additional inert atmosphere treatments. Additionally, these materials are more active at 365 nm than at 257.7 nm UV radiation, opening the possibility of using solar light for this application.  相似文献

A new type of nanocrystalline mesostructured TiO2 (NMT) predominantly in the anatase phase with a high specific surface area up to 269 m2 g−1 was prepared by a novel integrated nonhydrolytic sol–gel/UV-illumination technique at low temperature. During the gaseous phase photocatalytic degradation of acetone, the material exhibited excellent photoactivity, much higher than commercial Degussa P-25, which closely related to the markedly enhanced crystallization degree and the beneficial formation of surface Ti–OH groups on the NMT sample during the post UV-illumination process.  相似文献

The mesoporous anatase form of TiO2 was prepared by modified sol–gel method using ionic liquid as a template agent. The prepared nanosize TiO2 particle was characterized by N2-physisorption, XRD, TEM, and SEM. The physical properties of prepared TiO2 particles were compared with that prepared by conventional sol–gel method without template. It has been proved that the anatase phase prepared by modified sol–gel process using ionic liquid was preserved well even if the TiO2 samples were treated at high temperatures up to 800 °C while those prepared by conventional sol–gel method were transformed from anatase to rutile phase gradually during calcinations at 600 °C. Moreover, there was no phase transition in the sample obtained by sol–gel method with ionic liquid in spite of prolonged calcination for 60 h at 600 °C. However, in case of those samples prepared by conventional sol–gel method, the portion of rutile form was continuously increased with the increase in the calcination period.  相似文献

Pt doped TiO2 hollow spheres (Pt/HS-TiO2) are prepared by a sol–gel method and characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM and UV-visible absorption spectra. In addition, Pt/HS-TiO2 is employed as the catalyst for photocatalytic hydrogen production from water splitting under visible light irradiation. The results show that Pt/HS-TiO2 with hollow sphere structure presents excellent photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance. The hydrogen generation rate can reach more than 1023.71 μmol h−1 g−1 at room temperature and no obvious deactivation is observed after 30 h irradiation. Furthermore, the reactively of Pt/HS-TiO2 could be reproduced in the repeated cycle. Therefore, Pt/HS-TiO2 is a promising photocatalyst to efficiently generate hydrogen under visible-light irradiation at room temperature.  相似文献

Anatase TiO2 coatings prepared by solvothermal process in a neutral ethanol solution of isopropyl titanate at 160 °C have been grown on slag wool fibers (SWF) which were modified by hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) in advance. X-ray diffraction patterns confirmed the coatings are of a nanocrystalline anatase structure, and scanning electron microscopy observations and energy-dispersive X-ray spectrum revealed a continuous coverage of TiO2 formed on the fiber surfaces. The photocatalytic activity of the samples was tested by the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) solution. The results show that CTAB modified slag wool fibers (CMSWF) are not a suitable adsorbent for MB due to their weaker negative surface charges. Anatase TiO2 coated CMSWF display higher photocatalyst activity than anatase TiO2 coated SWF without CTAB modification, and Anatase TiO2 coated CMSWF are relatively stable under UV-light irradiation.  相似文献

A novel photocatalyst AgAlO2/TiO2 with a p–n heterojunction structure was synthesized through the method that combined sol–gel and ion exchange. The as-synthesized samples were characterized by XRD, SEM and UV–vis. The photocatalytic activity of as-synthesized sample was evaluated and the possible mechanism was discussed. As-synthesized AgAlO2/TiO2 (in mass ratio of 90/10) exhibited remarkably high photocatalytic activity of 97.8% in decomposing formaldehyde under sunlight irradiation for 90 min. Our work provided a basic experimental process for AgAlO2/TiO2 heterojunction and explored the connection between p–n heterojunction and photocatalysis, which will possess a broad prospect in terms of the applications in improving indoor air quality.  相似文献

When the two types of TiO2 coatings prepared by sol–gel and solvothermal methods were applied to dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) in this study, the energy conversion efficiency of the solvothermal-modified TiO2 was considerably higher than that on the sol–gel modified TiO2; approximately 8.51 (solvothermal) and 5.93% (sol–gel) with the N719 dye under 100 mW/cm2 of simulated sunlight, respectively. These results are in agreement with an electrostatic force microscopy (EFM) study showing that the electrons were transferred rapidly to the surface of the solvothermal-modified TiO2 film, compared with that on a sol–gel modified TiO2 film. Furthermore, FT-IR analysis of the films after N719 dye adsorption showed that the solvothermal-modified TiO2 had a strong band at 500 cm?1, which was assigned to metal–O, due to a new Ti–O bond between the O of COO? and a Ti atom. This peak was considerably weaker in the sol–gel modified TiO2.  相似文献

A novel sol–gel-derived titanium dioxide nanostructure composite has been prepared by spin-coating and investigated for the purpose of producing films. The processing of the composite sol–gel photocatalysts involved utilizing of precalcinated nanopowder titanium dioxide as filler mixed with sol and heat treated. The sol solution was prepared by adding titanium tetra isopropoxide (Ti(OPr)4 or TTP) to a mixture of ethanol and HCl 35.5% (mole ratio TTP:HCl:EtOH:H2O = 1:1.1:10:10), then a solution of 2 wt% methylcellulose was added and stirred at room temperature. Precalcinated TiO2 nanopowder was dispersed in the sol and the prepared mixture was deposited on the microscope glass slide by spin-coating. The inhomogeneity problem in preparation of composite film which causes peeling off and cracking after calcination due to the shrinkage of the films with thermal treatment were overcome by using methylcellulose (MC) as a dispersant. The composite heat treated at approximately 500 °C has the greatest hardness value. Surface morphology of composite deposits by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed remarkable increase in the composite surface area. Evaluation of the adhesion and bonding strength between the coating and substrate was carried out by the scratch test technique. The minimum load which caused the complete coating removal, for composite thick film was 200 g/mm2 which indicates a strong bond to the substrate. Photocatalytic activity of the composite film was evaluated through the degradation of a textile dye, Light Yellow X6G (C.I. Reactive Yellow 2) as a model pollutant and were compared with those of similar composite thick film without MC, thin film of TiO2 and TiO2 nanopowder. The results show that the photocatalytic activity and stability of the composite films are higher than those of nanopowder TiO2. However, a remarkable increase in the composite surface and good mechanical integrity make this composite film a viable alternative for commercial applications.  相似文献

The effects of heating method and temperature on physical, structural and photocatalytic behaviors of TiO2 pellets prepared by conventional heating and hot isostatic pressing have been evaluated. The pellets of submicron TiO2 powders were heated to 600, 650, 700, 750 and 1000 °C using both processing methods in order to compare anatase to rutile phase transformation and densification behaviors. Bulk densities and porosities were calculated using the Archimedes method. XRD analysis were performed to calculate anatase/rutile ratios. Microstructures were characterized using SEM. Photocatalytic experiments have been performed under full spectrum irradiation. Degraded methylene blue samples were periodically monitored through UV–vis spectrophotometer to determine degradation kinetics. Anatase to rutile transformation is slightly faster and densification is better for lower temperatures for conventional heating, however HIPing gives better densification above 750 °C as it also retards rutile transformation. Mixed phase structures and HIPed samples showed the best photocatalytic performance which makes this method advantageous.  相似文献

A mesoporous photocatalytic titania (TiO2) membrane on alumina support is successfully fabricated via the sol–gel processing method. Several techniques such as dynamic light scattering, X-ray diffraction (XRD), TGA, N2-sorption, and SEM are utilized to investigate the optimized processing parameters and their influence on the final properties of the developed membrane. The prepared titania sol containing organic additives (HPC and PVA) has an average particle size of 55.6 nm with a narrow distribution. The resulting TiO2 membrane with thickness of 1 μm exhibits homogeneity with no cracks or pinholes. It also maintains small pore size (4.7 nm), large specific surface area (75 m2/g), and small crystallite size (8.3 nm).The permeability and photocatalytic properties of the titania membrane were measured. The permeability coefficient of the fabricated membrane is 30.09 cm3 min?1 bar?1 cm?2. These measurements indicate an optimum processing condition for the preparation of the membrane. The prepared titania membrane has a great potential in developing high efficient water treatment and reuse systems because of its multifunctional capability such as decomposition of organic pollutants and physical separation of contaminants.  相似文献

The photocatalytic removal of phenol was studied using palygorskite-SnO2–TiO2 composites (abbreviated as Paly-SnO2–TiO2) under ultraviolet radiation. The photocatalysts were prepared by attachment of SnO2–TiO2 oxides onto the surface of the palygorskite by in situ sol–gel technique. The products were characterized by XRD, TEM and BET measurements. SnO2–TiO2 nanoparticles, with an average diameter of about 10 nm, covered the surface of the palygorskite fibers without obvious aggregation. Compared with palygorskite-titania (Paly-TiO2), palygorskite-tin dioxide (Paly-SnO2), and Degussa P25, Paly-SnO2–TiO2 and SnO2–TiO2 exhibited much higher photocatalytic activity. The photodecomposition of phenol was as high as 99.8% within 1.5 h. The apparent rate constants (kapp) for Paly-SnO2–TiO2, TiO2, and P25 were measured. Paly-SnO2–TiO2 showed the highest rate constant (0.03435 min?1). The chemical oxygen demand (COD) of the phenol solution was reduced from 220.2 mg/L to 0.21 mg/L, indicating the almost complete decomposition of phenol. Reusability of the photocatalyst was proved.  相似文献

Mesoporous TiO2/SBA-15 matrix was prepared by the sol–gel synthesis of TiO2 in previously prepared SBA-15 particles. Nonionic surfactant was used as liquid template and Na2SiO4 as SiO2 precursor for the synthesis of mesoporous silica SBA-15 with high specific surface area. Different calcination temperature was used for the synthesis and analysis of TiO2/SBA-15 matrix. The synthesized titania/silica composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, FTIR, TEM, UV–vis spectroscopy, etc. TEM micrographs showed titania is successfully embedded in SBA-15 channel. Different calcination temperature indicates different size of particle formation and different photocatalytic properties. The activity test indicated that TiO2/SBA-15 composite prepared by this method had better photocatalytic performance than pure TiO2. The preparation method and the textural characteristics of mesoporous materials have great influence for the photocatalytic activity.  相似文献

Pd-doped anatase TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by a modified sol–gel deposition technique. The synthetic strategy is applicable to other transition and post-transition metals to obtain phase-pure anatase titania nanoparticles. This is important in the sense that anatase titania forms the most hydroxyl radicals (compared to other polymorphs like rutile, brookite, etc.) for better photocatalytic performance. XRD and Raman data confirm the phase-pure anatase formation. Doping of Pd2+ into Ti4+ sites (for substitutional doping) or interstitial sites (for interstitial doping) creates strain within the nanoparticles and is reflected in the XRD peak broadening and Raman peak shifts. This is because of the ionic radii difference between Ti4+(∼68 pm) and Pd2+(∼86 pm). XPS data confirm the formation of high surface titanol groups at the nanoparticle surface and a large number of loosely bound Ti3+–O bonds, both of which considerably enhance the photocatalytic activity of the doped nanoparticles. A comparative study with other metal doping (Ga) shows that TiO2: Pd nanoparticles have more Ti3+–O bonds, which enhance the charge transfer rate and hence improve the photocatalytic activity compared to other transition and post-transition metal-doped titania nanostructures.  相似文献

TiO2 microspheres were synthesized by hydrothermal reaction using Ti(OBu)4 as the precursor. In order to enhance the efficiency of water splitting by the TiO2 microspheres, Pt-modified TiO2 microspheres were prepared by the impregnation-reduction method. The diameter of TiO2 microspheres is around 5–10 μm. The photocatalytic performances of the catalysts were measured by hydrogen generation from a mixture of water and methanol under UV light irradiation. The photocatalytic activity of the TiO2 microspheres was remarkably enhanced by loading Pt. The optimal Pt loading is 1.2 wt%. Pt/TiO2 microspheres exhibit about 125 times greater H2 production rate than the unmodified TiO2 microspheres. The effect of calcination temperature on photocatalytic activity of the TiO2 microspheres was also investigated.  相似文献

Proton-conducting glass membranes based on SiO2 monoliths and a protic ionic liquid (diethylmethylammonium trifluoromethanesulfonate, [dema][TfO]) as the anhydrous proton conductor were studied. The [dema][TfO]/SiO2 hybrid glass membranes were prepared via a sol–gel process. The stability and ionic conductivity of the glass membrane were investigated. The [dema][TfO]/SiO2 hybrid glass monoliths exhibit very high anhydrous ionic conductivities that exceed 10?2 S cm?1 at 120–220 °C.  相似文献
