Photoelectric observations of the eclipsing variable β Per, were obtained inUBV standard system, and new elements for the primary minimum were determined as $$J.D. = 2445641.5135,O - C = 0_.^d 0.009.$$ The light curves of the system were analysed using Fourier techniques in the frequency-domain. The fractional radii of both components are $$r_1 = 0.217 \pm 0.002,r_2 = 0.233 \pm 0.002andi = 85.5 \pm 0.5.$$ Absolute elements were derived and the effective temperatures are $$T_1 = 11800K,T_2 = 5140K.$$   相似文献

Infrared (JHKLM) photometry of Per, due to Zeilik (1980), has been analysed by computer-based optimization methods. The data have been used primarily to find empirical mean flux ratios at known IR wavelengths for the two photospheres of the eclipsing pair. These flux ratios have then been compared with values predicted by various model atmosphere calculations. The ratio of effective temperatures can be given asT B/T A=0.42±0.02, but there remains some small discrepancy between the empirical results and model calculations at the longest wavelengths (KLM). The possibility of IR-excess at longer wavelengths is considered, but the evidence is marginal.  相似文献

JCMT millimetre-wave detections have been obtained for 11 Vega-excess stars having spectral types ranging from B9 to K5. UKIRT 10-µm spectra have been obtained for two of the sources, SAO 179815 and SAO 186777. The spectrum of SAO 179815 shows an unusually broad and diffuse silicate emission feature, whilst SAO 186777 shows the unidentified infrared (UIR) features, which are usually attributed to hydrocarbon vibrational modes. The mm photometry, along with optical, IRAS and near-IR photometry (much of the latter recently obtained by the authors), have been used to define the spectral energy distributions of the objects. A number of them show a 1–5µm excess in addition to the longer wavelength excess. Values of the fractional excess luminosity,L dust /L , have been derived from the spectral energy distributions; they exhibit a substantial range, from 10–5 up to almost 0.5, the theoretical maximum for a passive optically thick flared disc. Radiative transfer models have been constructed for several sources. One needs a well defined overall energy distribution, 10- and/or 20-µm spectra, and sub-mm and mm photometry in order to significantly constrain the model free parameters (disc density distribution, grain size power-law index, minimum and maximum grain radii).Paper presented at the Conference onPlanetary Systems: Formation, Evolution, and Detection held 7–10 December, 1992 at CalTech, Pasadena, California, U.S.A.  相似文献

Results of infrared photometry in J, H, and K bands for 24 stellar maser sources are given. On the colour-colour diagram, nearly all the Mira variable masers are closer to the black body line than the normal M giants, which also have brighter H magnitudes. The main reason for the location of the Mira masers is the strong H2O absorption bands at 1.4 and 1.9 μm. The dust envelopes for maser sources have temperature of 600 – 700 K, so the radiation shorter than 3μm may be expected to be close to black body. The physical conditions in M supergiants are such that a peak intensity near 1 – 6 μm (the H band) may be expected.Maser-associated Mira variables have longer periods and redder colours than normal Mira stars and M giants, suggesting greater amount of mass ejection from the central stars.  相似文献

Infrared observations in the J, H, and K bands were made on eleven RS CVn systems. Infrared (IR) excess 0.3 mag in the J, H, and K bands was observed from the three systems UX Ari, HR 1099 and CrB. Similar observations were also made on the RS CVn candidates HD 26354, 39937, 42449, 51268, and 86005.The IR excess in the RS CVn systems for which near infrared photometric data are available is found to be correlated with the maximum of optical wave amplitude of these systems.The observed excess cannot be explained on the basis of a single process such as: (i) emission from cool spots on the photosphere; (ii) free-free emission from an optically thin circumstellar plasma; or (iii) dust grain emission from circumstellar material.On leave from TIFR, Bombay, India.  相似文献

We present the first light curves of V505 Sgr in the infrared (IR) J and K bands. The light curves are analysed with a code based on Roche geometry and stellar model atmosphere fluxes in order to determine a new set of stellar and orbital parameters. From the visual–IR photometry we find no evidence of IR excess in the system. We study the effect of the non-synchronous rotation of the primary star in the light and radial velocity curves. The distance of the system is estimated as  112 ± 4 pc  , in close agreement with the Hipparcos parallax.  相似文献

From a new infrared photometry of the globular cluster M10 its interstellar extinction and distance modulus are discussed. This is done by comparison with the well-studied clusters M3, M13, and M92. Final values ofE(B-V)=0.17±0.05 and (M v-V)=14.0±0.3 are proposed. We present new visible-infrared (V−J) observations of 17 Kuiper Belt objects, of which 14 were observed in the visible and infrared wavebands simultaneously to limit the effects of lightcurve variations. Combining these data with our previously published visible-infrared data provides a dataset of 29 objects, 25 of which offer simultaneous V−J colors. We examine the resulting dataset for evidence of relationships between physical properties and orbital characteristics. We find no evidence of a color-size relationship (as previously suspected), at least over the size range sampled. The dataset supports the trend, reported elsewhere, that there is a predominance of red material on the surfaces of objects having perihelia beyond 40 AU. Our data are also supportive, albeit weakly, of a reported correlation between inclination and color in the classical Kuiper Belt — although it is perhaps more correct to say that our data show that there appears to be a lack of low inclination blue objects. Our V−J colors appear broadly correlated with published optical colors, thus suggesting that the surfaces of Kuiper Belt objects are subject to a single reddening agent.  相似文献

The photometric observations and three-dimensional classification in the Vilnius system have been carried out for 13 of the red horizontal branch (RHB) stars in the Galactic thick disk identified by Rose (1985). The photometric spectral types, metallicities [Fe/H], effective temperatures, surface gravities and absolute magnitudes are determined. The age of about 10–12 Gyr is evaluated for this group of stars from comparison with model isochrones, indicating that the age of the thick disk is intermediate between the disk globular and the oldest open clusters.  相似文献

We describe the procedure we used to compile a catalog of the proper motions of 23 633 stars in the sky area covering about 700 square degrees at the north Galactic pole. The compiled catalog combines the data from the UCAC2, Tycho-2, and FONAC catalogs for stars down to V ~ 14 m in this sky area. In addition to proper motions, the catalog also contains the near-infrared magnitudes J, H, and K s in the 2MASS system. The mean accuracy is 2.5 mas/yr for proper motions and 0.03 m for magnitudes.  相似文献

A spectrally filtered Optical Frequency Comb (OFC) laser is proposed as a versatile calibration source for astronomical spectrometers in the 1?C2 ??m spectral range. Such a source overcomes the limitations of current calibration lamps providing a uniform spectrum of equally spaced lines with similar intensity and extremely high long-term frequency stability. We present preliminary studies and results of a system which filters the OFC from a 100 MHz comb spacing to 16 GHz one, an adequate spacing for spectrometers with resolving power ????/???>30000. The first approach employs two Fabry-Perot cavities in series, made of dielectric coated mirrors, followed by a non-linear optical broadening system. The limitations of such a filtering process are discussed. These can be overcome by the second approach, based on filtering cavities with metallic coated mirrors.  相似文献

We interpret the de‐reddened UBV data for the field SA 133 to deduce the stellar density and metallicity distribution functions. The logarithmic local space density for giants, D*(0) = 6.40, and the agreement of the luminosity function for dwarfs and sub‐giants with the one of Hipparcos confirms the empirical method used for their separation. The metallicity distribution for dwarfs gives a narrow peak at [Fe/H] = +0.13 dex, due to apparently bright limiting magnitude, Vo = 16.5, whereas late‐type giants extending up to z ∼ 4.5 kpc from the galactic plane have a multimodal distribution. The metallicity distribution for giants gives a steep gradient d[Fe/H]/dz = –0.75 dex kpc–1 for thin disk and thick disk whereas a smaller value for the halo, i.e. d[Fe/H]/dz = –0.45 dex kpc–1. We present contemporaneous optical and infrared (IR) photometric observations of the Type IIn SN 1998S covering the period between 11 and 146 d after discovery. The IR data constitute the first ever IR light curves of a Type IIn supernova. We use blackbody and spline fits to the photometry to examine the luminosity evolution. During the first 2–3 months, the luminosity is dominated by the release of shock-deposited energy in the ejecta. After ∼100 d the luminosity is powered mostly by the deposition of radioactive decay energy from 0.15±0.05 M of 56Ni which was produced in the explosion. We also report the discovery of an astonishingly high IR excess, K − L '=2.5, that was present at day 130. We interpret this as being due to thermal emission from dust grains in the vicinity of the supernova. We argue that to produce such a high IR luminosity so soon after the explosion, the dust must be pre-existing and so is located in the circumstellar medium of the progenitor. The dust could be heated either by the UV/optical flash (IR echo) or by the X-rays from the interaction of the ejecta with the circumstellar material.  相似文献

We study in detail the photometric redshift requirements needed for tomographic weak gravitational lensing in order to measure accurately the dark energy equation of state. In particular, we examine how ground-based photometry  ( u , g , r , i , z , y )  can be complemented by space-based near-infrared (near-IR) photometry  ( J , H )  , e.g. onboard the planned DUNE satellite. Using realistic photometric redshift simulations and an artificial neural network photo- z method we evaluate the figure of merit for the dark energy parameters  ( w 0, w a )  . We consider a DUNE -like broad optical filter supplemented with ground-based multiband optical data from surveys like the Dark Energy Survey, Pan-STARRS and LSST. We show that the dark energy figure of merit would be improved by a factor of 1.3–1.7 if IR filters are added onboard DUNE . Furthermore we show that with IR data catastrophic photo- z outliers can be removed effectively. There is an interplay between the choice of filters, the magnitude limits and the removal of outliers. We draw attention to the dependence of the results on the galaxy formation scenarios encoded into the mock galaxies, e.g. the galaxy reddening. For example, very deep u -band data could be as effective as the IR. We also find that about  105–106  spectroscopic redshifts are needed for calibration of the full survey.  相似文献
