Let G be a locally compact group, and ZL1(G) be the centre of its group algebra. We show that when G is compact ZL1(G) is not amenable when G is either non-abelian and connected, or is a product of infinitely many finite non-abelian groups. We also, study, for some non-compact groups G, some conditions which imply amenability and hyper-Tauberian property, for ZL1(G).  相似文献

We show that for a compact hypergroup K, the hypergroup algebra is amenable as a Banach algebra if the set of hyperdimensions of irreducible representations of K is bounded above. Conversely if is amenable, the set of ratios of the hyperdimension to the dimension of irreducible representations of K is bounded above. These are equivalent for compact commutative hypergroups.  相似文献

Let ( t ) t0 be a -semistable convolution semigroup of probability measures on a Lie groupG whose idempotent 0 is the Haar measure on some compact subgroupK. Then all the measures 1 are supported by theK-contraction groupC K() of the topological automorphism ofG. We prove here the structure theoremC K()=C()K, whereC() is the contraction group of . Then it turns out that it is sufficient to study semistable convolution semigroups on simply connected nilpotent Lie groups that have Lie algebras with a positive graduation.  相似文献

We give a necessary and sufficient condition for amenability of the Banach algebra of approximable operators on a Banach space. We further investigate the relationship between amenability of this algebra and factorization of operators, strengthening known results and developing new techniques to determine whether or not a given Banach space carries an amenable algebra of approximable operators. Using these techniques, we are able to show, among other things, the non-amenability of the algebra of approximable operators on Tsirelson’s space.  相似文献

We investigate recent uniqueness theorems for reduced \(C^*\)-algebras of Hausdorff étale groupoids in the context of inverse semigroups. In many cases the distinguished subalgebra is closely related to the structure of the inverse semigroup. In order to apply our results to full \(C^*\)-algebras, we also investigate amenability. More specifically, we obtain conditions that guarantee amenability of the universal groupoid for certain classes of inverse semigroups. These conditions also imply the existence of a conditional expectation onto a canonical subalgebra.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to examine the structure of those semigroups which satisfy one or both of the following conditions: Ar(A): The Rees right (left) congruence associated with any right (left) ideal is a congruence. The conditions Ar and A are generalizations of commutativity for semigroups. This paper is a continuation of the work of Oehmke [5] and Jordan [4] on H-semigroups (H for hamiltonian, a semigroup is called an H-semigroup if every one-sided congruence is a two-sided congruence). In fact the results of section 2 of Oehmke [5] are proved here under the condition Ar and/or A and not the stronger hamiltonian condition. Section 1 of this paper is essentially a summary of the known results of Oehmke. In section 2 we examine the structure of irreducible semigroups satisfying the condition Ar and/or A. In particular we determine all regular (torsion) irreducible semigroups satisfying both the conditions Ar and A. In this paper we study conditions on a Banach spaceX that ensure that the Banach algebraК(X) of compact operators is amenable. We give a symmetrized approximation property ofX which is proved to be such a condition. This property is satisfied by a wide range of Banach spaces including all the classical spaces. We then investigate which constructions of new Banach spaces from old ones preserve the property of carrying amenable algebras of compact operators. Roughly speaking, dual spaces, predual spaces and certain tensor products do inherit this property and direct sums do not. For direct sums this question is closely related to factorization of linear operators. In the final section we discuss some open questions, in particular, the converse problem of what properties ofX are implied by the amenability ofК(X). In this paper, we consider the path semigroup ?1?1-algebra for a quiver and the inverse semigroup ?1?1-algebra of a quiver, the latter of which can be used in the construction of Cuntz–Krieger algebras. The main objectives of the paper are to determine the simplicial and cyclic cohomology groups of these algebras. First, we determine the simplicial and cyclic cohomology of the path algebra of the quiver, showing the simplicial cohomology groups of dimension n   vanish for n>1n>1. We then determine the simplicial and cyclic cohomology of the inverse semigroup algebra. The work uses the Connes–Tzygan long exact sequence.  相似文献

For a Banach algebra , amenability of necessitates amenability of , and similarly for weak amenability provided is a left ideal in . For a locally compact group, indeed more generally, is amenable if and only if is finite. If is weakly amenable, then is weakly amenable.

The concept of relation algebra unifies many familiar notions from algebra (especially those of systems having “natural” models as groups, Boolean algebras etc.). The fundamental theorem on relation algebras asserts the existence of simple conditions which characterize any given class of relation algebras. The idea of relation algebra is very useful for the study of function and transformation semigroups, which is the central part of the theory of semigroups. It provides a general outlook, permits one to formulate many natural problems, and ensures that these problems possess non-trivial solutions. A number of examples illustrate this point.  相似文献

For a Rees matrix semigroupS with normalized sandwich matrix and C(S), the congruence lattice ofS, we consider the lattice generated by {itpTl, pK, pTr, ptl, pk, ptr}. HerepT 1 andpt l are the upper and lower ends of the interval which makes up the i -class of , i being the left trace relation onC(S). The remaining symbols have the analogous meaning relative to the kernel and the right trace relations. We also consider the lattice generated by {T l, K, Tr, tl, k, tr} where and are the equality and the universal relations onS, respectively. In both cases, we find lattices freest relative to these lattices and represent them as distributive lattices with generators and relations. With 3 Figures  相似文献
