We demonstrate a novel single-polarization Er(3+)-doped fiber Fabry-Perot laser. The all-fiber Fabry-Perot cavity is simple inasmuch as it is formed by only two fiber-based components, a fiber loop polarizer and a wavelength-selective fiber loop reflector. The threshold power is 6.5 mW, the slope efficiency is 12.2%, and the extinction ratio is approximately 25 dB.  相似文献

In this paper, we report experimental results on the frequency control of an optical oscillator based on a single-cavity DFB-MQW laser and a fiber loop reflector. Self-pulsation frequency can be controlled by changing the step amplitude of the laser bias current.  相似文献

A highly sensitive strain sensor is demonstrated by introducing a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) in a cavity ringdown fiber loop as a sensing element. The MZI is fabricated by splicing a short length of PCF between two single-mode fibers with collapsed air holes over a short region at two splicing points, which allows coupling between core and cladding modes inside the PCF. By measuring the decay constants of the fiber ringdown loop under different applied strains, a high strain sensitivity of ~0.21 μs?1/εm and a minimum detectable strain of ~3.6 με are obtained. As a benefit from the ultralow thermal dependence of PCF, the maximum temperature-induced measurement error could be reduced to ~0.24 με.  相似文献

A reciprocal fiber-optic reflection interferometer for remote measurement of electrical current through the Faraday effect is described. The effects of polarization cross coupling because of nonideal elements are eliminated with a low-coherence source. Nonreciprocal birefringence phase modulation is employed for detection of the Faraday phase shift. The theoretical predictions are confirmed by measurements with a piece of straight fiber as the sensing element in a 100-turn solenoid. Currents from 0 to 40 A have been measured with a linear response and a noise limit of ~0.015 A/√Hz.  相似文献

A single-frequency Q-switched erbium-doped fiber ring laser is implemented for producing a single frequency with 25-Mhz laser linewidth, Q-switched pulses with a high peak power at 1557.5 mm. The single longitudinal mode is selected by a distributed Bragg reflector fiber laser, and a fiberoptic Mach-Zehnder interferometer acts as a Q-switch. The peak power and the average power of the Q-switched pulses vary with the repetition rate.  相似文献

Faraday rotator mirror elements have been used in a number of applications as compensators for induced birefringence in retracing paths. In interferometric systems, such as the fiber-optic Michelson interferometer, this approach proved to be useful in providing maximum fringe visibility and insensitivity to the polarization state of light injected into the interferometer. However, it is found that, when the characteristics of the fiber coupler depend on the polarization state of the input beam, the efficiency of the Faraday mirror elements is limited. Theoretical analysis and experimental results in support of this statement are presented.  相似文献

It is shown that a polarization ring interferometer containing a Faraday cell can be used to compensate the reciprocal anisotropy in round-trip optical circuits. It is established theoretically and experimentally that, unlike the case of conventional Faraday mirrors, the quality of the restoration of the polarization in a compensator based on a polarization ring interferometer is practically independent of the Faraday rotation angle. A deviation of the Faraday rotation angle from 45° leads only to an additional power loss. We report on the implementation of an end-to-end imaging demonstrator to validate the concept of optical fiber use in high-resolution aperture synthesis in astronomy. As the coherent transport of light has been conclusively investigated, this study is focused primarily on the accuracy and reliability of the experimental data. In the framework of the European Space Agency project Optical Aperture Synthesis Technologies (OAST), the telescope array's complexity is minimized such that a realistic concept for a future space mission can be proposed. The reconstructed images are obtained by use of a particular self-calibration procedure that was designed to process the visibility contrast and the related weak phase information (one phase closure for each visibility triplet).  相似文献

A new range-finding technique that uses both double sinusoidal phase modulation and quasi-two-wavelength interferometry is described. Two independent interference signals are generated with respect to two different wavelengths on a time-sharing basis. We clarify that external disturbances of these interference signals are eliminated by both feedback control and differential detection and that the feedback control does not affect the distance measurement. A single distributed Bragg reflector laser diode allows us to simplify the optical setup and to improve the measurement accuracy. After discussing a measurement range, we estimate a measurement error by making several measurements.  相似文献

We describe a novel optical acoustic detector based on a bias-controlled fiber Fabry-Perot interferometer. The detector has a broad bandwidth from 10 Mhz to a few gigahertz and higher sensitivity than conventional systems, which are useful for noncontact characterization of microsamples based on laser ultrasound.  相似文献

The dynamics of generation of an erbium-doped fiber laser with an external microcavity reflector has been studied under conditions where the frequency of photoinduced elastic oscillations of the micro-structure is close to the intermode interval of the laser cavity. The possibility of passive synchronization of the laser modes is demonstrated and the dependence of the laser pulse frequency on the system parameters is determined.  相似文献

准确地从试验数据计算输出信号相位差、振幅比及基线位置是 AFVISAR 数据处理程序所要解决的一项关键问题。通过对 AFVISAR 输出信号利萨如图形的深入研究,提出了一种自动拟合数据处理参数的算法。在借鉴传统速度干涉仪(VISAR)数据处理方法的基础之上,开发了AFVISAR 数据处理程序。运用该程序对 Hopkinson 压杆加载下的试验数据进行了处理,实测自由面速度的上升前沿和阻抗匹配法得到的结果相当一致。实测的速度最大值为 12.8m/s,与理论值13m/s 非常接近,表明该处理程序可以准确地、自动地拟合 AFVISAR 输出信号参数。  相似文献

We present a new approach for the development of a highly stable optical fiber refractometer based on a path-matching differential interferometer. Exploiting a single-channel phase tracker and new synthetic heterodyne demodulations, one can eliminate the thermal drift on a piezoelectric transducer stack as a phase modulator by subtraction. A transducer in a differential Fabry-Perot refractometer is designed to compensate for the thermal effects not only from thermal expansion but also from the thermo-optic effect. The experimental data show that the refractive-index change in the sensing system can be kept at a level of approximately 5 x 10(-4) without serious variations for a 1-h period of long-term monitoring associated with a temperature variation of from 25 to 50 degrees C. Accordingly, the proposed new system can be easily implemented and used as a long-term monitoring system for medical care applications such as monitoring patients during drug injection.  相似文献

A Sagnac interferometer with a section of a polarization maintaining side-hole fiber for multiparameter measurement is proposed. The sensor was experimentally demonstrated to be sensitive to torsion, temperature, and longitudinal strain, simultaneously. The birefringence in the investigated side-hole fiber is induced simultaneously by the elliptical shape of a germanium-doped core and by field overlap with the air holes surrounding the core. The latter effect is purely geometrical and causes high chromatic dispersion of the group birefringence in the long wavelength range, which results in a different period of spectral interference fringes. A different wavelength response is obtained for each interference fringe peak when the fiber is subjected to torsion, temperature, or longitudinal strain. A matrix equation for simultaneous measurement of the three parameters--torsion, temperature, and longitudinal strain--is also proposed.  相似文献

Magneto-optical glasses are of considerable current interest, primarily for applications in fiber circuitry, optical isolation, all-optical diodes, optical switching and modulation. While the benchmark materials are still crystalline, glasses offer a variety of unique advantages, such as very high rare-earth and heavy-metal solubility and, in principle, the possibility of being produced in fiber form. In comparison to conventional fiber-drawing processes, pressure-assisted melt-filling of microcapillaries or photonic crystal fibers with magneto-optical glasses offers an alternative route to creating complex waveguide architectures from unusual combinations of glasses. For instance, strongly diamagnetic tellurite or chalcogenide glasses with high refractive index can be combined with silica in an all-solid, microstructured waveguide. This promises the implementation of as-yet-unsuitable but strongly active glass candidates as fiber waveguides, for example in photonic crystal fibers.  相似文献
