Superabsorbent hydrogels composites based on the biopolymer starch (ST) and rice husk ash (RHA) were successfully developed and tested towards the removal of methylene blue (MB), a cationic dye. RHA content hit the morphology, mechanical and water uptake properties of the composite. Batch adsorption experiments, carried out under pH 5 at 33 °C and with 2000 mg L?1 as the initial concentration of MB, showed that at 5 wt% RHA the composite exhibited a remarkable adsorption capacity reaching up to 1906.3 mg g?1 within 60 min. The adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order model and intraparticle diffusion was involved in this process. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm suggested a monolayer formation and spontaneous process. Thermodynamic parameters confirmed the spontaneity of the adsorption and suggested electrostatic interaction among the cationic dye molecules and the anionic adsorption sites on the adsorbent surface. FTIR analysis confirmed the adsorption process occurs via electrostatic mechanism associated with hydrophobic interactions. The adsorbents showed reusability with slight loss of adsorption capacity in five consecutive adsorption/desorption cycles. These results demonstrate ST/RHA superabsorbent composite as a low-cost, eco-friendly, robust and powerful adsorbent material for wastewater remediation.  相似文献

Synthetic dyes are widely used by several industries to color their products. The discharge of colored wastewater into the hydrosphere causes serious environmental problems. We used functionalized multi wall carbon nanotubes as an adsorbent for the adsorption of cationic dye, malachite green, from aqueous solution. Based on information provided by the Iranian Research Institute of Petroleum Industry, carbon nanotubes are produced using a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique. These as-received MWCNTs were functionalized by acid treatment. The remaining dye concentration was read by UV-visible absorption spectroscopy at maximum adsorption wavelength. The effect of different operational parameters such as contact time, pH of solution, adsorbent dose and initial dye concentration were studied. The results showed that by increasing of contact time, pH and adsorbent dose the removal of dye increased, but by increasing initial dye concentration, the removal efficiency decreased. Adsorption isotherms and kinetics behavior of f-MWCNTs for removal of malachite green was analyzed, and fitted to various existing models. The experimental data were well correlated with the Langmuir isotherm with a maximum adsorption capacity (q m ) and regression coefficient (R2) of 142.85 mg/g and 0.997, respectively. The results of this study indicate that functionalized multi wall carbon nanotubes can be used as an effective adsorbent for the removal of dyes.  相似文献

Waste cigarette filters (CFs) were recycled and modified with a nontoxic and low-cost citric acid (CA). The modified CFs were employed in the adsorptive removal of methylene blue (MB) dye from aqueous medium. The influence of pH, contact time, initial dye concentration, and adsorbent dose on adsorption of MB dye was evaluated. The adsorption studies were conducted by employing linear and nonlinear Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The adsorption capacity of CF obtained through linear and nonlinear Langmuir model were 88.02 and 94 mg g−1, which improved up to 163.93 and 168.81 mg g−1, respectively, after the introduction of functional groups in CF-CA. The adsorption kinetics data were well fitted by pseudo-second order kinetics with coefficient of regression (R2) closed to unity. The removal efficiency of CF-CA was 97% at equilibrium time of 4 h. Desorption studies indicated that CF-CA could be regenerated by using HCl (0.1 M) and desorption efficiency was up to 82% upon second cycle of reusability experiment. This study proposed a green and economical use of recycled CFs in dyes wastewater treatment, simultaneously reducing the negative environmental impact due to their improper disposal.  相似文献

In this paper, cold plasma (CPTAS), formaldehyde (FTAS), and microwave radiation treated (MTAS) acorn shell obtained from Quercus petraea tree as biosorbent was characterized and its dye removal ability at different dye concentrations was studied. The isoelectric point, functional groups and morphology of acorn shell was investigated as adsorbent surface characteristics. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and UV–Vis spectrophotometry were used. Methylene blue (MB) was used as model cationic dye. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models were applied to describe the equilibrium isotherms. The results indicated that the data for adsorption of MB onto treated acorn shell fitted well with the Langmuir isotherm model. Comparison of adsorption capacities of CPTAS with FTAS has shown a significant increase by as much as about 30 mg/g (33.32%) in MB adsorption. The pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order kinetic models were examined to evaluate the kinetic data, and the rate constants were calculated. Adsorption kinetic of dyes followed pseudo-first order kinetics. Thermodynamic parameters such as free energy, enthalpy, and entropy of dye adsorption were obtained. The results indicated that acorn shell could be used as a natural biosorbent for the removal of cationic dyes.  相似文献

The present study explains the preparation and application of sulfuric acid–treated orange peel (STOP) as a new low-cost adsorbent in the removal of methylene blue (MB) dye from its aqueous solution. The effects of temperature on the operating parameters such as solution pH, adsorbent dose, initial MB dye concentration, and contact time were investigated for the removal of MB dye using STOP. The maximum adsorption of MB dye onto STOP took place in the following experimental conditions: pH of 8.0, adsorbent dose of 0.4 g, contact time of 45 min, and temperature of 30°C. The adsorption equilibrium data were tested by applying both the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. It is observed that the Freundlich isotherm model fitted better than the Langmuir isotherm model, indicating multilayer adsorption, at all studied temperatures. The adsorption kinetic results showed that the pseudo-second-order model was more suitable to explain the adsorption of MB dye onto STOP. The adsorption mechanism results showed that the adsorption process was controlled by both the internal and external diffusion of MB dye molecules. The values of free energy change (ΔG o) and enthalpy change (ΔH o) indicated the spontaneous, feasible, and exothermic nature of the adsorption process. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of STOP was also compared with other low-cost adsorbents, and it was found that STOP was a better adsorbent for MB dye removal.  相似文献

Abstract

This work focused on producing different graphene oxide (GO) samples for further application in the adsorptive removal of dyes from real textile wastewater. Among all conditions tested, the sample produced using KMnO4 and no sonication bath exhibited the best performance. Before the experiments using wastewater, kinetics and equilibrium of adsorption studies were performed with Methylene Blue (MB) dye. Experimental data showed the isotherm fitted the Freundlich model, and kinetic results fitted the pseudo-second order model. Theoretical qmax was 308.11?mg.g?1 and over 90% removal of MB was reached in approximately 5?min. Although GO has been widely applied to remove cationic and anionic dyes from water, not many studies have presented GO as an adsorbent for real textile wastewater treatment. In 30?min, GO removed nearly 85% of turbidity and over 60% of color from a real sample, indicating that GO might be an excellent alternative to treat textile wastewater.  相似文献

This study examines the adsorption behavior of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions onto chemically activated halloysite nanotubes. Adsorption of MB depends greatly on the adsorbent dose, pH, initial concentration, temperature and contact time. The Langmuir and Freundlich models were applied to describe the equilibrium isotherms and the Langmuir model agrees very well with experimental data. The maximum adsorption capacities for MB ranged from 91.32 to 103.63 mg·g−1 between 298 and 318 K. A comparison of kinetic models applied to the adsorption data was evaluated for pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, Elovich and intra-particle diffusion equation. The results showed the adsorption process was well described by the pseudo-second-order and intra-particle diffusion mode. Thermodynamic parameters suggest that the adsorption is spontaneous and endothermic. The obtained results indicated that the product had the potential to be utilized as low-cost and effective alternative for dye removal in wastewater.  相似文献

The adsorption of two basic dyes, methylene blue (MB) and crystal violet (CV) on wood apple shell (WAS) were investigated using a batch adsorption technique. A series of experiments were undertaken in an agitated batch adsorber to assess the effect of the system variables such as solution pH, dye concentration and temperature. Removal of dyes was observed to be most effective at higher pH. Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models were applied to the equilibrium data. The results showed that Langmuir equation fits better than the Freundlich equation. It was observed that the WAS adsorbent showed higher adsorption capacity for crystal violet (130 mg/g) than methylene blue (95.2 mg/g). The FTIR studies indicate that the interaction of dye and WAS surface is via the nitrogen atoms of the adsorbate and oxygen groups of the adsorbent. The adsorption of dyes onto WAS proceeds according to a pseudo-second-order model. Thermodynamic parameters such as free energy (ΔG°), enthalpy (ΔH°) and entropy (ΔS°) were also calculated. The studies show that WAS, a lignocellulosic inexpensive material, can be an alternative to other expensive adsorbents used for dye removal in wastewater treatment.  相似文献

The preparation of poly(methacrylic acid)‐modified chitosan microspheres and its application for the removal of cationic dyes, methylene blue (MB) and malachite green (MG), in aqueous solution in a batch system were described. The modified chitosan was characterized using SEM, FTIR, and XPS analyses. The effects of the pH of the solution, contact time, and initial dye concentration were studied. The adsorption capacities of the microspheres for the two cationic dyes increased significantly after the modification because a large number of carboxyl groups were introduced. The equilibrium process was better described by the Langmuir than the Freundlich isotherm. According to the Langmuir equation, the maximum adsorption capacities were 1000.0 and 523.6 mg g?1 for MB and MG, respectively. Kinetic studies showed better correlation coefficients for a pseudo‐second‐order kinetic model, confirming that the sorption rate was controlled by a chemisorption process. POLYM. ENG. Nanostructured chitosan/polyaniline (CH/PANI) hybrid was synthesized via in situ polymerization of aniline in the presence of chitosan. The CH/PANI hybrid was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. The CH/PANI hybrid had a nanofibrous structure with an average diameter of 70 nm. This hybrid was employed as an ecofriendly and efficient adsorbent with high adsorption capacity for the removal of Acid Green 25 (AG) and methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions. AG and MB were used as anionic and cationic model dyes, respectively. The CH/PANI adsorbent showed high dependence on the pH of the medium with an excellent adsorption performance and regeneration manner. The kinetics and adsorption isotherms were studied. The CH/PANI hybrid follows the pseudo second-order adsorption kinetics and Temkin isotherm model for the adsorption of both AG and MB dyes. This assumes that the enthalpy of dyes molecules decreases with the adsorption on heterogeneous surface with various kinds of adsorption sites and as well as the ability to form multilayers of the dye. Also, intraparticle diffusion was found to play an important role in the adsorption mechanism. The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 240.4 mg g−1 of AG at pH 4 and 81.3 mg g−1 of MB at pH 11. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2019 , 136, 47056.  相似文献

The efficacy of pistachio hull powder (PHP) prepared from agricultural waste was investigated in this study as a novel adsorbent for the elimination of dye molecules from contaminated streams. Removal of methylene blue (MB) as a cationic model dye by PHP from aqueous solution was studied under different experimental conditions. The selected parameters were solution pH (2–10), PHP dosage (0.5–3 g/L), MB concentrations (100–400 mg/L), contact time (1–70), and solution temperature (20–50 °C). The experimental results indicated that the maximum MB removal could be attained at a solution pH of 8. The dosage of PHP was also found to be an important variable influencing the MB removal percentage. The removal efficiency of MB improved from 94.6 to 99.7% at 70 min contact time when the MB concentration was decreased from 300 to 100 mg/L at a pH and PHP dosage of 8 and 1.5 g/L, respectively. The kinetic analysis showed that the pseudo-second-order model had the best fit to the experimental data. The Langmuir equation provided the best fit for the experimental data of the equilibrium adsorption of MB onto PHP at different temperatures. In addition, the maximum adsorption capacity increased from 389 to 602 mg/g when the temperature was increased from 20 to 50 °C. The thermodynamic evaluation of MB adsorption on PHP revealed that the adsorption phenomenon under the selected conditions was a spontaneous physical process. Accordingly, pistachio hull waste was shown to be a very efficient and low-cost adsorbent, and a promising alternative for eliminating dyes from industrial wastewaters.  相似文献

In this paper, the isotherm, kinetic, and thermodynamic of cationic dye removal onto inorganic adsorbent (Feldspar) were investigated in single and binary systems. Basic Red 18 (BR18) and Basic Blue 41 (BB41) were used as cationic dyes. The characterization of the Feldspar was carried out using X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The effect of operational parameters such as adsorbent dosage, initial dye concentration, pH, ionic strength, and temperature on dye removal was studied. It was found that the adsorption of BR18 and BB41 onto Feldspar followed with Langmuir and extended Langmuir isotherms in single and binary systems, respectively. Adsorption kinetic of dyes was found to conform to pseudo-second order kinetic in single and binary system. The thermodynamic data showed that dye adsorption onto Feldspar was spontaneous, endothermic, and physisorption reaction. Based on the data of the present investigation, one could conclude that the Feldspar as an eco-friendly and low-cost adsorbent might be a suitable alternative to remove dyes from colored aqueous solutions containing cationic dyes.  相似文献

Microsilica, one kind of industrial solid waste material, was utilized firstly to prepare a carbon-microsilica composite adsorbent (CMS). The prepared adsorbent was characterized with XPS, SEM and Gas sorption experiments. The results indicated the SO3H groups, which are very effective in capturing cationic organic dye, were introduced onto the surface of CMS; the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area (S BET ) and total pore volume (V total ) of CMS reach 51m2/g and 0.045 cm3/g, respectively. Meanwhile, the possibility of the utilization of the adsorbent for removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution was investigated. The effect of pH, contact time and initial MB concentration for MB removal were studied. Equilibrium data were modeled using the Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich equations to describe the equilibrium isotherms. It was found that data fit to the Langmuir equation better than the Freundlich equation. Maximum monolayer adsorption capacity was calculated at different temperatures (298, 308, and 318 K) reach 251.81, 283.76 and 309.70 mg/g, respectively. It was observed that adsorption kinetics obeys the pseudo-first-order equation.  相似文献

A novel fibrous adsorbent that grafts glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and methacrylic acid (MAA) monomer mixture onto poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fibers was used for removal of methylene blue (MB) in aqueous solutions by a batch equilibration technique. The operation parameters investigated included, pH of solution, removal time, graft yield, dye concentration, and reaction temperature. The adsorption rate of MB is much higher on the MAA/GMA‐grafted PET fibers than on the ungrafted PET fibers. MB was removed 99% the initial dye concentration at 10 mg L−1 and 93% at 200 mg L−1 by monomers mixture‐grafted PET fibers. Pseudofirst order and pseudosecond order kinetic equations were used to examine the experimental data of different graft yield. It was found that the pseudosecond order kinetic equation described the data of dye adsorption on fibrous adsorbent very well. The experimental isotherms data were analyzed using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The data was that Freundlich isotherm model fits the data very well for the dyes on the fibers adsorbent. The dye adsorbed was easily desorbed by treating with acetic acid/methanol mixture (50% V/V) at room temperature. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献

In the current study, sorption of methylene blue dye (MB) from aqueous solutions, using sawdust modified with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS/SD) has been investigated. Sorption experiments were performed using batch and fixed-bed column systems. The effects of important parameters, such as pH, initial dye concentration, flow rate, and bed depth on the sorption of MB dye have been studied. Thomas and the bed-depth service time model (BDST) were applied for analysis of sorption data and estimating of sorption capacity. In order to drive adsorption isotherms, sorption experiments were conducted in batch mode and the treatment of the obtained data were carried out using the Langmuir and Freundlich equations. Based on the breakthrough analysis obtained from continuous sorption experiments, the highest column capacity of 129.68 mg g?1 was obtained for the SDS/SD adsorbent. The results of this study indicated that surfactant-modified sawdust is much more effective for basic MB dye removal compared to untreated sawdust (SD) and the exhausted SDS/SD column can be easily regenerated using dilute HCl solution with high performance (>95%). The results of this study also indicated the successful applicability of the introduced adsorbent as a very efficient and cost effective adsorbent for the removal of cationic dye molecules from aqueous wastes.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Hydrous titanium dioxide was impregnated on the surface of zeolite to obtain a kind of hydrous TiO2/zeolite (HTiO2/ZFA) adsorbent using the hydrothermal method. HTiO2/ZFA was characterised by scanning electron microscopy combined with energy-dispersive spectrometer, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared, particle size distribution; and the pH of zero point charge measurement and its performance for Cu(II) adsorption were investigated. It was shown that Ti was not inserted into the skeleton of ZFA and hydrous TiO2 loaded on the surface was amorphous. The pHzpc of HTiO2/ZFA decreased to pH 5.5 from pH 6.5 of ZFA. Cu(II) adsorption was favoured in a pH range of 3.0–6.0, and 90% copper could be removed in first 30?min for 60?mg?L–1 Cu(II) solution. The Langmuir isotherm model could well describe the adsorption isotherm data and the maximal Cu(II) adsorption capacity reached 251.9?mg?g–1. Moreover, the HTiO2/ZFA could be desorbed by HCl solution for further use, which implied an effective application in wastewater treatment.  相似文献

In a previous work, succinylated sugarcane bagasse (SCB 2) was prepared from sugarcane bagasse (B) using succinic anhydride as modifying agent. In this work the adsorption of cationic dyes onto SCB 2 from aqueous solutions was investigated. Methylene blue, MB, and gentian violet, GV, were selected as adsorbates. The capacity of SCB 2 to adsorb MB and GV from aqueous single dye solutions was evaluated at different contact times, pH, and initial adsorbent concentration. According to the obtained results, the adsorption processes could be described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Adsorption isotherms were well fitted by Langmuir model. Maximum adsorption capacities for MB and GV onto SCB 2 were found to be 478.5 and 1273.2 mg/g, respectively.  相似文献

The adsorption of methylene blue (MB) on graphene-based adsorbents was tested through the batch experimental method. Two types of graphene-based adsorbents as graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) were compared to investigate the best adsorbent for MB removal. So that optimizing the MB removal for the selected type of graphene-based adsorbent, the diverse experimental factors, as pH (2–10), contact time (0–1440 min), adsorbent dosage (0.5–2 g/L), and initial MB concentration (25–400 mg/L) were analyzed. The conclusions indicated that the MB removal rised with an increase in the initial concentration of the MB and so rises in the amount of adsorbent used and initial pH. Maximum dye removal was calculated as 99.11% at optimal conditions after 240 min. Adsorption data were compiled by the Langmuir isotherm (R2: 0.999) and pseudo-second-order kinetic models (R2: 0.999). The Langmuir isotherm model accepted that the homogeneous surface of the GO adsorbent covering with a single layer. And the adsorption energy was calculated as 9.38 kJ mol−1 according to the D-R model indicating the chemical adsorption occurred. The results show that GO could be utilized for the treatment of dye-contaminated aqueous solutions effectively.  相似文献

Cationic dye can cause severe damage to the environment due to their refractory degradation, complex composition and strong stability. Hydrogels as adsorbents have been widely used to treatment the wastewater with dyestuff for their low prices, simple operations, and high efficiency. This work uses poly(acrylic acid) (PAA)/poly(acrylamide)(PAM)/calcium hydroxide nanoparticles (CHN) polymeric hydrogel absorbent to eliminate methylene blue (MB) dye. First, PAM/PAA/CHN hydrogel is produced through copolymerization of acrylic acid monomer and acrylamide monomer using inorganic CHN as cross-linker. And then, the adsorption performance of such PAM/PAA/CHN hydrogel adsorbent for adsorbing MB dye is explored at different conditions including pH, contacting time, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration of MB, and temperature. A maximum adsorption capability for adsorbing MB reaches 1,056 mg/g. Furthermore, the pseudo-first-order mode and Langmuir isotherm model can well describe adsorption behavior of MB dye onto such PAA/PAM/CHN hydrogel adsorbent. Thereby, as-prepared PAA/PAM/CHN hydrogel could be a potential adsorbent for eliminating organic dyes from wastewater.  相似文献
