Conductive polymer particles, polyaniline (PANI)‐coated poly(methyl methacrylate–butyl acrylate–acrylic acid) [P(MMA–BA–AA)] nanoparticles, were prepared. The P(MMA–BA–AA)/PANI core–shell complex particles were synthesized with a two‐step miniemulsion polymerization method with P(MMA–BA–AA) as the core and PANI as the shell. The first step was to prepare the P(MMA–BA–AA) latex particles as the core via miniemulsion polymerization and then to prepare the P(MMA–BA–AA)/PANI core–shell particles. The aniline monomer was added to the mixture of water and core nanoparticles. The aniline monomer could be attracted near the outer surface of the core particles. The polymerization of aniline was started under the action of ammonium persulfate (APS). The final product was the desired core–shell nanoparticles. The morphology of the P(MMA–BA–AA) and P(MMA–BA–AA)/PANI particles was characterized with transmission electron microscopy. The core–shell structure of the P(MMA–BA–AA)/PANI composites was further determined by Fourier transform spectroscopy and ultraviolet–visible measurements. The conductive flakes made from the core–shell latexes were prepared, and the electrical conductivities of the flakes were studied. The highest conductivity of the P(MMA–BA–AA)/PANI pellets was 2.05 S/cm. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献

Poly(butyl acrylate)/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PBA/PMMA) core–shell particles embedded with nanometer‐sized silica particles were prepared by emulsion polymerization of butyl acrylate (BA) in the presence of silica particles preabsorbed with 2,2′‐azobis(2‐amidinopropane)dihydrochloride (AIBA) initiator and subsequent MMA emulsion polymerization in the presence of PBA/silica composite particles. The morphologies of the resulting PBA/silica and PBA/silica/PMMA composite particles were characterized, which showed that AIBA could be absorbed effectively onto silica particles when the pH of the dispersion medium was greater than the isoelectric potential point of silica. The critical amount of AIBA added to have stable dispersion of silica particles increased as the pH of the dispersion medium increased. PBA/silica composite particles prepared by in situ emulsion polymerization using silica preabsorbed with AIBA showed higher silica absorption efficiency than did the PBA/silica composite particles prepared by direct mixing of PBA latex and silica dispersion or by emulsion polymerization in which AIBA was added after the mixing of BA and silica. The PBA/silica composite particles exhibited a raspberrylike morphology, with silica particles “adhered” to the surfaces of the PBA particles, whereas the PBA/silica/PMMA composite latex particles exhibited a sandwich morphology, with silica particles mainly at the interface between the PBA core and the PMMA shell. Subsequently, the PBA/silica/PMMA composite latex obtained had a narrow particle size distribution and good dispersion stability. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A core–shell nanosilica (nano‐SiO2)/fluorinated acrylic copolymer latex, where nano‐SiO2 served as the core and a copolymer of butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, and 2,2,2‐trifluoroethyl methacrylate (TFEMA) served as the shell, was synthesized in this study by seed emulsion polymerization. The compatibility between the core and shell was enhanced by the introduction of vinyl trimethoxysilane on the surface of nano‐SiO2. The morphology and particle size of the nano‐SiO2/poly(methyl methacrylate–butyl acrylate–2,2,2‐trifluoroethyl methacrylate) [P(MMA–BA–TFEMA)] core–shell latex were characterized by transmission electron microscopy. The properties and surface energy of films formed by the nano‐SiO2/P(MMA–BA–TFEMA) latex were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy/energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, and static contact angle measurement. The analyzed results indicate that the nano‐SiO2/P(MMA–BA–TFEMA) latex presented uniform spherical core–shell particles about 45 nm in diameter. Favorable characteristics in the latex film and the lowest surface energy were obtained with 30 wt % TFEMA; this was due to the optimal migration of fluorine to the surface during film formation. The mechanical properties of the films were significantly improved by 1.0–1.5 wt % modified nano‐SiO2. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2011  相似文献

Core–shell nanomaterials of poly(butyl acrylate)‐poly(methyl methacrylate) were synthesized using a differential microemulsion polymerization method for being used as polyacrylate‐based optical materials, which meet the requirement of anti‐crease‐whitening and proper mechanical strength. The effects of reaction temperature and surfactant amount on the particle sizes, as well as the effect of reaction temperature on the conversion and solid content were investigated to reveal the dependence of the application properties on the reaction conditions. The spherical morphology of core–shell nanoparticles was also studied via transmission electron microscopy. The resulting polymers with a core–shell monomer ratio of butyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate at 32/10 (vol/vol) demonstrated the optimal balanced properties in the anti‐crease‐whitening and mechanical property, confirmed by the visible light transmittance measurement and the dynamic analysis of the viscoelastic properties of the synthesized core–shell nanomaterials. The smaller the particle size, the better the transparency of the resulting polymer films. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2014 , 131, 39991.  相似文献

Structured latex particles with a slightly crosslinked poly(styrene‐n‐butyl acrylate) (PSB) core and a poly(styrene–methacrylate–vinyl triethoxide silane) (PSMV) shell were prepared by seed emulsion polymerization, and the latex particle structures were investigated with Fourier transform infrared, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, transmission electron microscopy, and dynamic light scattering. The films that were formed from the structured core (PSB)–shell (PSMV) particles under ambient conditions had good water repellency and good tensile strength in comparison with films from structured core (PSB)–shell [poly(styrene–methyl methyacrylate)] latex particles; this was attributed to the self‐crosslinking of CH2?CH? Si(OCH2CH3)3 in the outer shell structure. The relationship between the particle structure and the film properties was also investigated in this work. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, the poly(methyl methacrylate/polystyrene (PMMA/PS) core‐shell composite latex was synthesized by the method of soapless seeded emulsion polymerization. The morphology of the PMMA/PS composite latex was core‐shell structure, with PMMA as the core and PS as the shell. The core‐shell morphology of the composite polymer latex was found to be thermally unstable. Under the effect of thermal annealing, the PS shell region first dispersed into the PMMA core region, and later separated out to the outside of the PMMA core region. This was explained on the basis of lowing interfacial tension between the PMMA and PS phases owing to the interpenetration layer. The interpenetration layer, which was located at the interface of the core and shell region, contained graft copolymer and entangled polymer chains. Both the graft copolymer and entangled polymer chains had the ability to lower the interfacial tension between the PMMA and PS phases. Also, the effect of thermal annealing on the morphology of commercial polymer/composite latex polymer blends was examined. The result showed that the core‐shell composite latex had the ability to enhance the compatibility of the components of polymer blends. The compatibilizing ability of the core‐shell composite latex was better than that of a random copolymer. Moreover, the effect of the amount of core‐shell composite latex on the morphology of the polymer blend was investigated. The polymer blends, which contained composite latex above 50% wt, showed the morphology of a double sea‐island structure. In addition, the composite latex was completely dissolved in solvent to destroy the core‐shell structure and release the entangled polymer chains, and then dried to form the entangled free composite polymer. The entangled free composite polymer had the ability to enhance the compatibility of the components of the polymer blend as usual. The weight ratio 3/7 commercial polymer/entangled free composite polymer blend showed the morphology of the phase inversion structure. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel core‐shell latices with a partially crosslinked hydrophilic polymer core and a hard hydrophobic shell of polystyrene were prepared to improve optical properties of coated paper such as gloss and brightness. These core‐shell latices were prepared by sequential addition of a monomer mixture of styrene, n‐butylacrylate and methacrylic acid. Different crosslinkers were used to form the polymer core and in the second stage styrene to form the hard shell component. In addition, attempts were made to further improve optical properties by introducing a new polymerizable optical brightener, i.e., 1‐[(4‐vinylphenoxy)methyl]‐4‐(2‐phenylethylenyl)benzene during polymerization either into the core or into the shell. The prepared core‐shell latex particles were used as specialty plastic pigments for paper coating together with kaolin as the primary pigment. The runability of paper coating formulation by either using a laboratory scale Helicoater or pilot scale JET‐coating machine was very good. The produced coated papers were printed on both sides employing a heat set web offset (HSWO) printer to study the quality of image reproduction in terms of print gloss, print mottle, print through, etc. The core‐shell latices improved the overall print quality. Furthermore, the results demonstrated that by optimizing polymer composition one can significantly enhance the optical properties and surface smoothness of coated paper. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The butyl acrylate (BA)/methyl methacrylate (MMA), and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) composite copolymer latex was synthesized by seeded emulsion polymerization technique taking poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) latex as the seed. Four series of experiments were carried out by varying the ratio of BA : MMA (w/w) (i.e. 3.1 : 1, 2.3 : 1, 1.8 : 1, and 1.5 : 1) and in each series GMA content was varied from 1 to 5% (w/w). The structural properties of the copolymer were analyzed by FTIR, 1H‐, and 13C‐NMR. Morphological characterization was carried out using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In all the experiments, monomer conversion was ~99% and final copolymer composition was similar to that of feed composition. The incorporation of GMA into the copolymer chain was confirmed by 13C‐NMR. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of the copolymer latex obtained from the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curve was comparable to the values calculated theoretically. With increase in GMA content, particles having core‐shell morphology were obtained, and there was a decrease in the particle size as we go from 2–5% (w/w) of GMA. The adhesive strength of the latexes was found to be dependent on the monomer composition. With increase in BA : MMA ratio, the tackiness of the film increased while with its decrease the hardness of the film increased. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献

Polysilsesquioxane–fluoroacrylate copolymer [poly(methyl methacrylate)–butyl acrylate–dodecafluoroheptyl methacrylate)] (FPSQ) composite latex particles with a trilayer core–shell morphology were manufactured by seeded emulsion polymerization, where PSQ latex particles bearing reactive methacryloxypropyl moieties were first produced by the hydrolysis‐condensation of (3‐methacryloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane, and then they were utilized as seeds, with methyl methacrylate, butyl acrylate, and dodecafluoroheptyl methacrylate as the inner and outer shell monomers. Fourier‐transform infrared spectra and 1H‐NMR confirm the structure of the FPSQs. Transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy demonstrate that the obtained composite emulsion particles emerge with the trilayer core–shell pattern. Due to the anchoring of PSQ nanoparticles, the thermal stabilities of the FPSQ films are strengthened, and the resistance to heat is gradually improved along with the increase of the fluoroacrylate dose in the polymer matrix composite. X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and hydrophobicity investigations indicate that the fluorinated chain segments tend to concentrate at the film–air two‐phase interface. In addition, the AFM result denotes that importing more fluorine into the FPSQ hybrid material will engender greater phase separation and enrichment of the fluoroalkyl segments and a rougher morphology. Thus, the water contact angle of the FPSQ film can ultimately reach 121.4°. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2017 , 134, 44845.  相似文献

Four kinds of core–shell structure acrylic impact modifiers (AIMs) with different rubber crosslinking densities were synthesized. The effects of the rubber crosslinking density of the AIMs on the crack initiation and propagation resistance and the mechanical properties of the AIM/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) blends were investigated, and we found that the maximum stress intensity factor, crack propagation energy, and Izod impact strength reached maximums when the appropriate rubber crosslinking density of AIM, 2.51 × 1025 crosslinks/m3, was adopted. Transmission electron microscopy photographs of the AIM/PMMA blends showed that the AIMs dispersed uniformly in the PMMA matrix. Meanwhile, through the analysis of optical photos and scanning electron microscopy of the impact fracture surface, we found that the deformation mechanism of the AIM/PMMA blends was local matrix shear yielding initiated by rubber particle cavitation of the AIM. The rubber of the AIM, whose crosslinking density was 2.51 × 1025 crosslinks/m3, was beneficial to the formation of intensive voids and initiated the local shear yielding of nearby modifiers of the PMMA matrix effectively in impact tests, which led to higher Izod impact strengths. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A lipase [triacylglycerol ester hydrolase (EC 3.1.1.3)] was encapsulated in sodium alginate (AlgNa)/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) microspheres. Spherical AlgNa/PVA beads were prepared by the ionotropic gelation of an AlgNa/PVA blend in the presence of calcium tetraborate (CaB4O7). The particles were spherical and had an average diameter of 400 μm. The microspheres were studied with differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and water transport by the equilibrium degree of swelling. The elevation of the glass‐transition temperature of the microspheres indicated specific crosslinking reactions of the component polymers (AlgNa/PVA). FTIR spectra showed no evidence of a strong chemical interaction changing the nature of the functional groups of both AlgNa and PVA in the AlgNa/PVA blends. The water diffusion coefficients increased with increasing PVA content in the microspheres, indicating a decrease in the resistance to mass transfer through the AlgNa/PVA microsphere wall. The AlgNa/PVA microspheres were characterized by the Michaelis constant (KM) and the maximum reaction velocity (Vmax), which were determined for both free and immobilized lipases. The enzyme affinity for the substrate (KM/Vmax) remained quite good after immobilization. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 102: 1553–1560, 2006  相似文献

Different poly(methyl methacrylate/n‐butyl acrylate)/poly(n‐butyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate) [P(BA/MMA)/P(MMA/BA)] and poly(n‐butyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate)/polystyrene [P(BA/MMA)/PSt] core‐shell structured latexes were prepared by emulsifier‐free emulsion polymerization in the presence of hydrophilic monomer 3‐allyloxy‐2‐hydroxyl‐propanesulfonic salt (AHPS). The particle morphologies of the final latexes and dynamic mechanical properties of the copolymers from final latexes were investigated in detail. With the addition of AHPS, a latex of stable and high‐solid content (60 wt %) was prepared. The diameters of the latex particles are ~0.26 μm for the P(BA/MMA)/P(MMA/BA) system and 0.22–0.24 μm for the P(BA/MMA)/PSt system. All copolymers from the final latexes are two‐phase structure polymers, shown as two glass transition temperatures (Tgs) on dynamic mechanical analysis spectra. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(butyl acrylate‐co‐methyl methacrylate)‐montmorillonite (MMT) waterborne nanocomposites were successfully synthesized by semibatch emulsion polymerization. The syntheses of the nanocomposites were performed in presence of sodium montmorillonite (Na‐MMT) and organically modified montmorillonite (O‐MMT). O‐MMT was used directly after the modification of Na‐MMT with dimethyl dioctadecyl ammonium chloride. Both Na‐MMT and O‐MMT were sonified to obtain nanocomposites with 47 wt % solids and 3 wt % Na‐MMT or O‐MMT content. Average particle sizes of Na‐MMT nanocomposites were measured as 110–150 nm while O‐MMT nanocomposites were measured as 200–350 nm. Both Na‐MMT and O‐MMT increased thermal, mechanical, and barrier properties (water vapor and oxygen permeability) of the pristine copolymer explicitly. X‐ray diffraction and transmission electron microscope studies show that exfoliated morphology was obtained. The gloss values of O‐MMT nanocomposites were found to be higher than that of the pristine copolymer. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2015 , 132, 42373.  相似文献

Core shell latex particles with a glassy core and a low Tg polymeric shell are usually preferred. More so, the glassy core happens to be a fluoropolymer with a shell polymer that helps in processability. We describe here the preparation and characterization of core shell nanoparticles consisting of poly(chlorotrifluoroethylene‐co‐ethylvinylether) as core encapsulated in poly(styrene‐acrylate) copolymer shell using seeded emulsion polymerization method under kinetically controlled monomer starved conditions. Properties of the emulsion using surfactants (fluoro/conventional) and surfactant free conditions were investigated. Average size (100 nm), spherical shape and core–shell morphology of the latex particles was confirmed by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. Absence of C? F and C? Cl peaks in X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy proves that cores are completely covered. Polymerization in the presence of fluorocarbon surfactant was found to give optimum features like narrow size distribution, good shell deposition and no traces of agglomeration. Films of core shell latex particles exhibited improved transparency and enhanced water contact angles thus making them suitable for applications in various fields including coatings. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The equilibrium morphologies of different core–shell latices are predicted, and a related sensitivity analysis is given for the predictions. This article proposes a related sensitivity range for estimating the accuracy of predictions, made with the simple method, of the thermodynamically preferred morphology of a core–shell latex particle in two‐stage seeded emulsion polymerization. The related sensitivity range of the predictions is defined and calculated, and the results show that different core–shell latices have different sensitivity ranges. The wider the sensitivity range is, the more reliable the prediction is of the morphology of the core–shell latex. The simple method of related sensitivity range has been verified in the literature and with experiments. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 92: 3144–3152, 2004  相似文献

Crosslinked poly(butyl acrylate‐co‐2‐ethylhexyl acrylate) [P(BA–EHA)] latex was synthesized by seeded emulsion polymerization. P(BA–EHA)/poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) composite latex was prepared using P(BA–EHA) latex as the seed. The effects of the amount of P(BA–EHA) on the latex particle diameters and mechanical properties of the materials are discussed. The grafting efficiency (GE) of P(BA–EHA)‐grafted vinyl chloride (VC) in the synthesized resin was investigated, and the GE increased with an increasing P(BA–EHA)/VC ratio. The morphology of P(BA–EHA)/PVC was characterized using TEM, SEM, and DMA. TEM indicated that the particles of the P(BA–EHA)/PVC composite latex have a clear core–shell structure. DMA illustrated that the compatibility between P(BA–EHA) and PVC was well improved. With an increasing P(BA–EHA) content, the loss peak in the low‐temperature range became stronger than that of pure PVC, and the maximum values of the loss peaks gradually shifted to higher temperature. SEM showed that the fractured surface of the composite sample exhibited better toughness of the material. The notched impact strength of the material with 4.2 wt % P(BA–EHA) was 11 times that of PVC. TEM showed that P(BA–EHA) was uniformly dispersed in the PVC matrix and that the interface between the two phases was indistinct. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly (styrene‐n‐butyl acrylate‐methyl methacrylate) (PSBM)/silica nanocomposite was prepared by emulsion polymerization in the presence of oleic acid surface modified nanosilica. The structure, morphology, size, and size distribution were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and dynamics laser scattering. The chemical bond was formed between PSBM and nanosilica revealed by FTIR and TEM studies. The composite particles with an averaged diameter ranging from 30 to 80 nm have the core‐shell structure. The effect of silica content on the glass transition temperature Tg, pyrolyze temperature, and rheological behavior of PSBM composites was systematically investigated. The results indicated that the addition of nanosilica could effectively inhibit chain movement, and improved the pyrolyze temperature of PSBM. The steady viscosity and dynamic modulus were strongly dependent on the content and distribution of nanosilica in PSBM nanocomposites. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2011  相似文献

Anionic aqueous polyurethane dispersion was synthesized through self‐emulsifing method from cycloaliphatic isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) and dimethylolpropionic acid (DMPA). The carboxyl acid group in DMPA was used to make the polyurethane dispersible. The polyurethane/polyacrylate (PU/PA) composite particles were also prepared by seeded surfactant‐free emulsion polymerization; the cycloaliphatic polyurethane aqueous dispersion was used as seed particles. The structures and properties of the composite emulsion as well as the physical mixture of polyurethane dispersion and polyacrylate emulsion were characterized by FTIR, DSC, dynamic light scattering, TEM, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ESCA), and electronic tensile machine. The results showed that the synthesized PU/PA composite emulsion was found to form inverted core‐shell structure with polyacrylate as the core and with polyurethane as the shell, and its diameter of particles is in the range of nanograde, the crosslinking reaction was existed in composite emulsion. The intimate molecular mixing of crosslinking polymers are also claims to result in a superior balance of properties compared to physical blends of polyurethane dispersion and acrylate emulsion. The crosslinking mechanism of PU/PA composite emulsion was also discussed. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2008  相似文献

Acrylonitrile (AN) was polymerized in the presence of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) seed latex by both the batch and dropwise addition modes. The two addition modes both led to PMMA/polyacrylonitrile (PAN) composite particles with a core/shell structure with PMMA as the core and PAN as the shell. The shell thickness could be adjusted by a change in the amount of the second‐stage AN monomer relative to the PMMA seed polymer. However, the surface morphologies of the composite polymers were quite different, which showed a rambutan‐like batch mode and an urchinlike dropwise mode. The reason was considered as the different precipitation mechanisms of PAN small‐particle precipitation for the batch mode and linear PAN segment growth for the dropwise mode. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
