In recent years, wearable sensors and energy harvesters have shown great potential for a wide range of applications in personalized healthcare, robotics, and human–machine interfaces. Among different types of materials used in wearable electronics, piezoelectric materials have gained enormous attention due to their exclusive ability to harvest energy from ambient sources. Piezoelectric materials can be utilized as sensing elements in wearable sensors while harvesting biomechanical energy. Electrospun piezoelectric polymer nanofibers are extensively investigated due to their high flexibility, ease of processing, biocompatibility, and higher piezoelectric property (in contrast to their corresponding cast films). However, as compared to piezoceramic materials, they mostly exhibit relatively lower piezoelectric coefficients. Therefore, considerable efforts have been devoted to improving the piezoelectricity of electrospun polymer nanofibers recently, resulting in significant advances. This review presents a broad overview of these advances including new material, structure designs as well as new strategies to enhance piezoelectricity of electrospun polymer nanofibers. The challenges in achieving high mechanical performance as well as high piezoelectricity are particularly discussed. The main motivation of this review is to examine these challenges and highlight effective approaches to achieving high-performance piezoelectric sensors and energy harvesters for wearable technologies.  相似文献

Piezo‐ and ferroelectric nanofibers of the polymer poly(vinylidenefluoride) (PVDF) have been widely employed in strain and pressure sensors as well as nanogenerators for energy harvesting. Despite this interest, the mechanism of electromechanical transduction is under debate and a deeper knowledge about relevant piezoelectric or electrostatic properties of nanofibers is crucial to optimize transduction efficiency. Here poly(vinylidenefluoride‐trifluoroethylene) nanofibers at different electrospinning conditions are prepared. Macroscopic electromechanical response of fiber mats with microscopic analysis of single nanofibers performed by piezoelectric and electrostatic force microscopy are compared. The results show that electrospinning favors the formation of the piezoelectric β‐phase in the polymer and leads directly to piezoelectric properties that are comparable to annealed thin films. However, during electrospinning the electric field is not strong enough to induce direct ferroelectric domain polarization. Instead accumulation of triboelectric surface charges and trapped space charge is observed in the polymer that explain the electret like macroscopic electromechanical response.  相似文献

Polycarbonate (PC) nanofibers are prepared using the air blowing‐assisted electrospinning process. The effects of air blowing pressure and PC solution concentration on the physical properties of fibers and the filtration performance of the nanofiber web are investigated. The air blowing‐assisted electrospinning process produces fewer beads and smaller nanofiber diameters compared with those obtained without air blowing. Uniform PC nanofibers with an average fiber diameter of about 0.170 μm are obtained using an applied voltage of 40 kV, an air blowing pressure of 0.3 MPa, a PC solution concentration of 16%, and a tip‐to‐collection‐screen distance (TCD) of 25 cm. The filtration efficiency improvement of the air blowing‐assisted electrospun web can be attributed to the narrow distribution of fiber diameter and small mean flow pore size of the electrospun web. Performance results show that the air blowing‐assisted electrospinning process can be applied to produce PC nanofiber mats with high‐quality filtration. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of electrospinning parameters on morphology, molecular, and supermolecular structure of polycaprolactone (PCL) fibers was analyzed, with respect to tissue engineering applications. Fibers morphology and structure are mainly determined by solution concentration and collector type. Applied voltage does not significantly influence supermolecular structure (crystallinity) and mechanical stiffness. There is correlation between changes in structure and proliferation of 3T3 cells as evidenced by in vitro study. Processing window of optimal scaffolds is relatively wide, however, variation of electrospinning parameters do not significantly affect their biological functionality.  相似文献
