Hypersonic, nonequilibrium-ionized, monatomic, inviscid gas flow around blunt bodies is considered. The emergence of radiation in the heated layer from the ground layer in the continuum and in the resonant line is taken into account.

Employing the equations describing the dynamics of a viscous radiating gas, we examine the hypersonic flow over blunted cones under conditions of re-entry into the earth's atmosphere. The problem is solved by means of numerical methods.

Thermoelectric method of measuring velocity fluctuations in a gas stream

A method is described of measuring velocity fluctuations by using a thermocouple connected to a rapid response temperature-measuring instrument. It is shown that the method permits investigation of velocity fluctuations in a high-temperature gas stream.     

Qualitative motion of a liquid in an accelerating gas stream

Experimental data are examined on the interaction of liquid drops with the gas stream in a Venturi scrubber, the most promising available equipment.     

Similarity analysis of strong converging spherical shock waves in radiating gas

Summary In this paper the influence of radiation upon the classical adiabatic self-similar solution of a converging spherical shock wave is investigated. The medium is assumed to be an optically thick, inviscid and ideal gas with a constant ratio of specific heats. In front of the shock wave it is considered to be uniform and at rest, and its counter pressure is neglected. The presented paper restricts itself to presenting those similarity solutions which show the least possible deviation from the classical adiabatic solution. Their eigenvalues are determined numerically and listed. The flow profiles of nonadiabatic similarity solutions are shown and compared with the flow profiles of the adiabatic similarity solution.     

Certain magnetogasdynamic effects in a high-current arc with a gas stream

Velocity profile in a turbulent boundary layer of a supersonic gas stream

A semiempirical equation is proposed for relating the coefficients of molecular and turbulent viscosity in the laminar sublayer and in the transition region. Simple formulas are derived for determining the velocity throughout the boundary layer and the frictional stress at the surface of a plate at various values of the Mach number.
