Photon recycling and carrier diffusion are the two plausible processes that primarily affect the carrier dynamics in halide perovskites, and therefore the evaluation of the performance of their photovoltaic and photonic devices. However, it is still challenging to isolate their individual contributions because both processes result in a similar emission redshift. Herein, it is confirmed that photon recycling is the dominant effect responsible for the observed redshifted emission. By applying one‐ and two‐photon confocal emission microscopy on Ruddlesden–Popper type 2D perovskites, of which interplane carrier diffusion is strictly suppressed, the substantial PL redshift (72 meV) is well reproduced by the photon transport model. A comparison of 3D bulk CH3NH3PbBr3 single crystal to 2D perovskite by depth‐resolved two‐photon PL spectra reveals the contribution of carrier diffusion on energy transport at a distance beyond diffusion length is constantly negligible, though the carrier diffusion indeed exists in the 3D crystal. The investigation resolves the fundamental confusion and debate surrounding the issue and provides significant insights into carrier kinetics in perovskites, which is important for future developments in solar cells and other optoelectronic devices.  相似文献

The cellular fatty acid-binding proteins (FABP) and cellular retinoid (retinol, retinoic acid)-binding proteins (CRtBP) are structurally and functionally-defined groups within an evolutionarily conserved gene family. CRtBP are expressed in both fully differentiated and developing tissues in a manner that supports a relationship to the action of retinoic acid in morphogenesis and cellular differentiation. The FABP are, by contrast, expressed only in fully differentiated tissues in a manner compatible with a major function in the metabolism of long-chain fatty acids (LCFA) for energy production or storage. The precise function(s) of FABP and CRtBP remain imperfectly understood, while subspecialization of function(s) within the two groups is suggested by the complex diversity in both of structurally distinct members that display striking tissue and temporal specificity of expression in addition to ligand specificity. Notwithstanding this considerable apparent functional diversity among the FABP and CRtBP, available evidence supports a dual set of generic functions for both protein groups in a) promoting cellular flux of poorly water-soluble ligands and their subsequent metabolic utilization or transformation, and b) sequestration of ligands in a manner that limits their association with alternative binding sites within the cell, of which members of the steroid hormone nuclear receptor superfamily (HNR) are a potentially important category. Theoretical as well as experimental models probing diffusional fluxes of LCFAin vitro and in living cells have provided support for a function for FABP in intracellular LCFA transport. Protein-bound ligand also appears to provide the substrate for metabolic transformation of retinoids bound to CRtBP, but convincing evidence is lacking for an analogous mechanism in the direct facilitation of fatty acid utilization by FABP. An emerging relationship between FABP and CRtBP function centers on their binding of, and induction by, ligands which activate or transform specific HNR-the retinoic acid receptors and the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor in the case of CRtBP and FABP, respectively. Evidence consistent with both a promotive role (provision of ligands for HNR) and a protective role (limiting availability of free ligand for HNR association) has been advanced for CRtBP. Available data supports a protective function for cellular retinoic acid-binding proteins (CRABP) and liver FABP (L-FABP) and points to the existence of ligand-defined, lipid-binding-protein-HNR relationships in which CRABP serve to attenuate the induction of gene expression by retinoic acid, and in which L-FABP may modulate a cellular adaptive multigene response to increased LCFA flux or compromised LCFA utilization. The northeast Indian passageway connecting the Indian subcontinent to East/Southeast Asia is thought to have been a major corridor for human migrations. Because it is also an important linguistic contact zone, it is predicted that northeast India has witnessed extensive population interactions, thus, leading to high genetic diversity within groups and heterogeneity among groups. To test this prediction, we analyzed 14 biallelic and five short tandem-repeat Y-chromosome markers and hypervariable region 1 mtDNA sequence variation in 192 northeast Indians. We find that both northeast Indian Y chromosomes and mtDNAs consistently show strikingly high homogeneity among groups and strong affinities to East Asian groups. We detect virtually no Y-chromosome and mtDNA admixture between northeast and other Indian groups. Northeast Indian groups are also characterized by a greatly reduced Y-chromosome diversity, which contrasts with extensive mtDNA diversity. This is best explained by a male founder effect during the colonization of northeast India that is estimated to have occurred within the past 4,000 years. Thus, contrary to the prediction, these results provide strong evidence for a genetic discontinuity between northeast Indian groups and other Indian groups. We, therefore, conclude that the northeast Indian passage way acted as a geographic barrier rather than as a corridor for human migrations between the Indian subcontinent and East/Southeast Asia, at least within the past millennia and possibly for several tens of thousand years, as suggested by the overall distinctiveness of the Indian and East Asian Y chromosome and mtDNA gene pools.  相似文献

The protease CPAF is only found in Chlamydiales and in at least most bacteria that share with Chlamydia the biphasic life-style in a cytosolic inclusion. CPAF is intriguing: it appears to be secreted from the inclusion across the inclusion membrane into the cytosol. A bacterial protease ravaging in the cytosol of a human cell may cause a plethora of effects. Curiously, very few are known. The neurotoxicity of the amyloid-β peptide (Aβ) appears to be, at least in part, related to pathological activation of glutamate receptors by Aβ aggregates. However, the downstream signaling pathways leading to neurodegeneration are still incompletely understood. Hyperactivation of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and increased nitric oxide (NO) production have been implicated in excitotoxic neuronal damage caused by overactivation of glutamate receptors, and it has been suggested that increased NO levels might also play a role in neurotoxicity in Alzheimer’s disease. We have examined the effect of blockade of NO production on the neurotoxicity instigated by Aβ42 and by elevated concentrations of glutamate in chick embryo retinal neurons in culture. Results showed that l-nitroarginine methyl ester, a potent inhibitor of all NOS isoforms, had no protective effect against neuronal death induced by either Aβ42 (20 μM) or glutamate (1 mM). Surprisingly, at short incubation times both Aβ and glutamate decreased NO production in retinal neuronal cultures in the absence of neuronal death. Thus, excitotoxic insults induced by Aβ and glutamate cause inhibition rather than activation of NO synthase in retinal neurons, suggesting that cell death induced by Aβ or glutamate is not related to increased NO production. On the other hand, considering the role of NO in long term potentiation and synaptic plasticity, the decrease in NO levels instigated by Aβ and glutamate suggests a possible mechanism leading to synaptic failure in AD.  相似文献

The fungus Neurospora crassa is being used by a number of research groups as a model organism to investigate circadian (daily) rhythmicity. In this review we concentrate on recent work relating to the complexity of the circadian system in this organism. We discuss: the advantages of Neurospora as a model system for clock studies; the frequency (frq), white collar-1 and white collar-2 genes and their roles in rhythmicity; the phenomenon of rhythmicity in null frq mutants and its implications for clock mechanisms; the study of output pathways using clock-controlled genes; other rhythms in fungi; mathematical modelling of the Neurospora circadian system; and the application of new technologies to the study of Neurospora rhythmicity. We conclude that there may be many gene products involved in the clock mechanism, there may be multiple interacting oscillators comprising the clock mechanism, there may be feedback from output pathways onto the oscillator(s) and from the oscillator(s) onto input pathways, and there may be several independent clocks coexisting in one organism. Thus even a relatively simple lower eukaryote can be used to address questions about a complex, networked circadian system.  相似文献

When honey bees approach blossoms, they are attracted by the color and form of the goal in their visual field, and they use these cues for a successful revisit. Their visual system receives cues by two main types of parallel channels behind the retina; one channel for colors, and a monochrome channel for the orientation and edge of the item in their visual field. In the integration process of these 2 channels, the priority and interaction between them are significant due to the fact that these chromatic and achromatic signals coexist naturally. To investigate this issue, we trained bees to detect form and color and then tested them with combinations of opposite patterns. We observed that the bees chose the correct color but the wrong form pattern in the above experiment as well as for other manipulations as follows. The effect of the color training for the blue reward pattern differed from that of the green reward pattern. The color pattern choices tended to be more correct if blue was the target during the training process, indicating that the chromatic signal was the main cue in pattern discrimination. In other words, color tended to be the decisive factor in a conflicting situation. In addition, the color blue was preferred over the color green, indicating that color preference was involved in visual recognition.  相似文献

Epigenetic gene silencing, and associated promoter CpG island DNA hypermethylation, is an alternative mechanism to mutations by which tumor suppressor genes may be inactivated within a cancer cell 1-4,5-7. These epigenetic changes are prevalent in all types of cancer, and their appearance may precede genetic changes in pre-malignant cells and foster the accumulation of additional genetic and epigenetic hits8. These epigenetically modified genes constitute important categories of tumor suppressor genes including cell cycle regulators, pro-differentiation factors, and anti-apoptotic genes3, and many of these genes are known to play a role in normal development 9-11. While the silencing of these genes may play an essential role in tumor initiation or progression, the mechanisms underlying the specific targeting of these genes for DNA hypermethylation remains to be determined. The large numbers of epigenetically silenced genes that may be present in any given tumor, and the clustering of silenced genes within single cell pathways12, begs the question of whether gene silencing is a series of random events resulting in an enhanced survival of a pre-malignant clone, or whether silencing is the result of a directed, instructive program for silencing initiation reflective of the cells of origin for tumors. In this regard, the current review stresses the latter hypothesis and the important possibility that the program is linked, at least for silencing of some cancer genes, to the epigenetic control of stem/precursor cell gene expression patterns.  相似文献

Genetic studies have identified the HLA and CTLA4 regions as susceptibility loci for the development of common autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITDs), including Graves' disease and autoimmune hypothyroidism. Despite numerous studies, the identification of a third locus has remained elusive. Genetic-linkage studies have implicated chromosome 8q24 as a susceptibility locus for AITD. The gene encoding thyroglobulin (Tg), which encodes a major thyroid autoantigen, maps to this region, and a recent study has reported the association of several exonic single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with disease. Although these preliminary data are potentially exciting, caution needs to be exercised, and replication of the data sought before Tg can be designated as the third locus for AITD.  相似文献

Patients with maturity onset diabetes that is poorly controlled on maximal doses of oral hypoglycaemic agents are difficult to treat. A prospective randomised crossover study was performed in 58 predominantly non-obese patients on maximal doses of glibenclamide or metformin, or both, to find out if insulin would improve control or well being. The patients were given daily injections of up to 48 units of highly purified porcine lente insulin. Glycaemic control was improved by 15% or more in only 18 patients; 14 others felt better but their diabetes was no better controlled. Those whose control was improved by insulin could not be distinguished by age, duration of diabetes, body mass index, or their own treatment preference. C peptide concentrations, however, did help predict the response to insulin, the fasting C peptide to glucose ratio being considerably lower in those patients whose control was better on insulin. These findings suggest that a simple insulin regimen does not necessarily lead to better glycaemic control in maturity onset diabetes. Nevertheless, a trial of insulin is often justified since it poses few practical difficulties and makes some patients feel better even if their control is not improved. A more complex regimen might improve control in more cases, but it might also be less acceptable to older patients.  相似文献

Annual nitrogen and phosphorus budgets for the whole North Sea taking into account the most recent data available were established. The area considered has a total surface of approximately 700,000km2 and corresponds to the definition by OSPARCOM (Oslo and Paris Commission) with the exclusion of the Skagerrak and Kattegat areas. Input and output fluxes were determined at the marine, atmospheric, sediment and continental boundaries, and riverine inputs based on river flows and nutrient concentrations at the river–estuary interface were corrected for possible estuarine retention. The results showed that the North Sea is an extremely complex system subjected to large inter-annual variability of marine water circulation and freshwater land run-off. Consequently, resulting total N (TN) and P (TP) fluxes are extremely variable from 1 year to another and this has an important influence on the budget of these elements. Total inputs to the North Sea are 8870±4860kTNyear–1 and 494±279kTPyear–1. Denitrification is responsible for the loss of 23±7% of the TN inputs while sediment burial is responsible for the retention of only of 2±2% of the TP input. For TN, due to the large variability on marine and estuarine fluxes, and to the uncertainty related to the denitrification rate, it was concluded that the North Sea could either be a source (1930kTNyear–1) or a sink (1700kTNyear–1) for the waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. For TP it was concluded that the North Sea is mostly a source (–4 to 52kTPyear–1) for the waters of the North Atlantic Ocean.  相似文献
