Strong asymptotic completeness is shown for a pair of Schrödinger type operators on a cylindrical Lipschitz domain. A key ingredient is a limiting absorption principle valid in a scale of weighted (local) Sobolev spaces with respect to the uniform topology. A simple stochastic epidemic model incorporating births into the susceptible class is considered. An approximation is derived for the mean duration of the epidemic. It is proved that the epidemic ultimately dies out with probability 1. The limiting behavior of the epidemic conditional on non-extinction is studied using approximation methods. We find the continuous spectrum of the Hamiltonians and characterize the spectrum of Hamiltonians of two-cluster mutually noninteracting systems obtained by decomposing the original system in the state with a fixed value of P

We study a family of unbounded Hermitian operators in Hilbert space which generalize the usual graph-theoretic discrete Laplacian. For an infinite discrete set X, we consider operators acting on Hilbert spaces of functions on X, and their representations as infinite matrices; the focus is on ?2(X), and the energy space HE. In particular, we prove that these operators are always essentially self-adjoint on ?2(X), but may fail to be essentially self-adjoint on HE. In the general case, we examine the von Neumann deficiency indices of these operators and explore their relevance in mathematical physics. The probabilistic properties of eigenvalues of random matrices whose dimension increases indefinitely has received considerable attention. One important aspect is the existence and identification of the limiting spectral distribution (LSD) of the empirical distribution of the eigenvalues. When the LSD exists, it is useful to know the rate at which the convergence holds. The main method to establish such rates is the use of Stieltjes transform. In this article we introduce a new technique of bounding the rates of convergence to the LSD. We show how our results apply to specific cases such as the Wigner matrix and the Sample Covariance matrix. 相似文献

A method is proposed for calculating the number of energy levels of a quantum particle moving in a one-dimensional piecewise constant potential field of a certain kind, which is called a multiple quantum well (MQW) structure. It consists of several layers, namely, of potential wells with a zero potential separated by walls with a potential U > 0. The external walls have an infinite width. The method is based on a recently obtained multilayer equation that makes it possible to calculate the eigenvalues of the energy E of a quantum particle in an arbitrary MQW structure. The equation has the form F j * (E) = 0, where F j * (E) is a rather complex function that is constructed from the given MQW structure and depends on the index j of an arbitrarily chosen bounded layer. The key property is that the functions F j * (E) corresponding to the external bounded layers are strictly monotone on the intervals of their continuity. For internal bounded layers, these functions may not be monotone. The formula for the number of energy levels holds in the case of general position. This means that it is not valid for specially chosen well and wall widths (these cases are rather rare and are called resonant). An example is presented in which the number of energy levels does not increase when the potential well is doubled. 相似文献
