In our earlier study, we reported that at 300 °C, a 2.0 wt.% CeO2-doped SnO2 sensor is highly selective to ethanol in the presence of CO and CH4 gases [F. Pourfayaz, A. Khodadadi, Y. Mortazavi, S.S. Mohajerzadeh, CeO2 doped SnO2 sensor selective to ethanol in presence of CO, LPG and CH4, Sens. Actuators B 108 (2005) 172–176]. In the present investigation, we report the influence of ambient air humidity on the ethanol selective SnO2 sensor doped with 2.0 wt.% CeO2. Maximum response to ethanol occurs at 300 °C which decreases with the relative humidity. The relative humidity was changed from 0 to 80% for different ambient air temperatures of 30, 40 and 50 °C and the response of the sensor was monitored in a 250–450 °C temperature range. As the relative humidity in 50 °C air increased from 0 to 30%, a 15% reduction in the maximum response to ethanol was observed. A further increase in the relative humidity no longer reduced the response significantly. The presence of humidity improved the sensor response to both CO and CH4 up to 350 °C after which the extent of improvement became smaller and at 450 °C was almost diminished. The sensor is shown to be quite selective to ethanol in the presence of humid air containing CO and CH4. The selectivity passes a maximum at 300 °C; however it declines at higher operating temperatures.  相似文献

The ceramic powder prepared from the mixture of Mn3O4 and La2O3 have been characterized for NTC behavior and the same have been used as CT2C (continuous thermocouple) sensor in the form of a thin metal cable to detect over-heating. These materials have mega ohm resistance at room temperature and showed exponential drop in resistance with the rise in temperature over a temperature range of 100–400 °C. It has been observed that as the concentration of La2O3 increases from 0 to 10% the NTC behavior drops from (400–260 °C) ±10%. The material was pressed into pellets and sintered at 700 °C for 3 h resulting in good bonding strength. Electrical characterization of the material was done by measuring the resistance over a temperature range of 100–400 °C. The material showed reproducible NTC characteristics over the temperature range 400, 370, 340, 280, and 260 °C with decreasing thermistor constant values (B = 9588, 9210, 8500, 5170, 3330 K−1) and activation energy (ΔE = 826, 794, 733, 445, 287 meV), respectively. The decrease in activation energy of the ceramic powder with increase in La2O3 concentration makes it possible to fabricate thermal sensors which can be used in different temperature ranges. The microstructure was studied using SEM and evidence of a sintered body with grain size around 1 μm was observed in the material. XRD analysis indicated the single-phase tetragonal structure of the ceramic material. The process of using this ceramic material for fabrication of 10 ft continuous fire wire sensor has been explained.  相似文献

We have developed a calorimetric sensor utilizing a thermoelectric device supported on a planar alumina substrate. By using a highly selective carbon monoxide (CO) oxidation catalyst and a non-selective platinum (Pt) catalyst, the device can be built to detect either CO or hydrocarbons with high selectivity. The CO oxidation catalyst comprises lead-modified platinum and exhibits excellent selectivity over the 200–400 °C temperature range. The thermoelectric device consists of two thick film junctions made of niobium pentoxide (Nb2O5)-doped titanium dioxide (TiO2) and a lithiated nickel (Ni), which are supported on a planar alumina substrate. The thermocouple detects the difference in temperature due to different catalytic reactions over the two junctions and shows a high output signal because of the high Seebeck coefficient of Nb2O5-doped TiO2 (−400 μV/°C). In gas bench tests, the sensor has a linear output of 0–2.75 mV over 0–1000 ppm of propylene and a response time of 2.5 s (at 90% of amplitude) at a gas temperature of 350 °C. An engine dynamometer evaluation shows that the response of the sensor parallels the change in CO and hydrocarbon constituent concentrations when the engine air-to-fuel ratio is varied.  相似文献

The powder sample of Cr1.8Ti0.2O3 (CTO) was obtained by a sol–gel method. The thick films were developed on identical ceramic tubes of 4 mm length comprising of two Au-electrodes and printing an eight-layer film prepared by mixing CTO with glass powder and -terpinol as an organic vehicle. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) patterns showed the formation of a single phase. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of the ceramic sensor treated at 850 °C revealed that the grain size was larger than 400 nm for the individual isolated grains on the surface, and the agglomerated dense spheroidal platelets had the size of 1–4 μm in diameter. The AC impedance measurement in ambient air showed that the resistance decreased nearly by two orders of magnitude with an increase in temperature in the range of 400–600 °C for both the powder sample and the thick film, and the activation energy Ea derived from the measurement was found to be 0.35 and 0.36 eV for the powder and the film, respectively. The films were exposed to various concentrations of alcohols (0.4–1.2 ppm of methanol and 1.0–5.0 ppm of ethanol), followed by determination of sensor response, sensitivity and reversibility and reproducibility. The origin of the gas response was attributed to the surface reaction of R-OH (R = methyl and ethyl group) with O(ads) to form adsorbed R-CHO, which was desorbed as a gas at 400 °C after the sensor departing from the gas.  相似文献

The barium–strontium–titanate (BST, Ba0.64Sr0.36TiO3) thin films have been prepared by the sol–gel method on a platinum-coated silicon substrate. The resulting thin films show very good dielectric and pyroelectric properties. The dielectric constant and dissipation factor for Ba0.64Sr0.36TiO3 thin film at a frequency of 200 Hz were 592 and 0.028, respectively. The dependence of the capacitance as a function of the voltage shows a strongly non-linear character, and two peaks characterizing spontaneous polarization switching can be clearly seen in this curve, indicating that the films have a ferroelectric nature. The capacitance changed from 495 to 1108 pF with the applied voltage in the −5 to +5 V range at a frequency of 100 kHz. The peak pyroelectric coefficient at 30 °C is 1080 μC/m2 K. The pyroelectric coefficient at room temperature (25 °C) is 1860 μC/m2 K, and the figure-of-merit of this film is 37.4 μC/m3 K. The high pyroelectric coefficients and the greater figures-of-merit of Ba0.64Sr0.36TiO3 thin films make it possible to be used for thermal infrared detection and imaging.  相似文献

Fused silica optical fibers have been used in an intrinsic mode optical configuration as biosensors for fluorescence based detection of hybridization of nucleic acids. In this work, the kinetics of hybridization of single-stranded oligonucleotides that were covalently immobilized were studied. The probe DNA was dT20, and the target was Fluorescein-labeled non-complementary (dT20) or complementary (dA20) oligonucleotide. Chronofluorimetric monitoring of the adsorption and hybridization processes was used to investigate oligonucleotide films of different density, in different salt concentrations, at temperatures of 25 and 40 °C, with the concentration of the target DNA being 0.005–0.1 μM. Mathematical models based on first- and second-order Langmuir adsorption have been examined to describe both the adsorption and the hybridization processes. Experimental data were processed using the models, and the hybridization kinetics were calculated. Hybridization kinetics on these optical fiber DNA sensors was found to be up to three orders faster than results presented for a number of other experiments using different immobilization chemistries.  相似文献

For the fabrication as step-down multilayer piezoelectric transformer, piezoelectric properties of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3–Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3–Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 (PMN–PZN–PZT) ceramics were optimized by ZnO–Li2CO3 (ZL) and Pb3O4 content. Effects of the additions on the structure, bulk density and electrical properties of ceramics were investigated. The results revealed that the proper additions of ZL with Pb3O4 content could modify the electrical properties of the PMN–PZN–PZT ceramics. The composition sintered at 995 °C with 0. 01 wt.% ZL and 0.10 wt.% Pb3O4 content showed higher values, which were listed as follows: d33 = 256 pC/N, Kp = 0.60, Qm = 1910, r = 1032, tan δ = 0.0070 and r = 2.09 Ω. In addition, the step-down piezoelectric transformers with optimized PMN–PZN–PZT composites were fabricated and the characteristics as the output power and resistance loads were measured. Meanwhile, the step-down piezoelectric transformers sintered at 995 °C showed the favorable characteristics with a higher gain G of 0.204 and a lower temperature rise of 6 °C when the output power was 5 W, and the driving frequency were approximately constant (≈126 kHz) when the output power was from 5 to 13 W. Moreover, the maximum efficiency (90.2%) was obtained at load resistance of 10 Ω.  相似文献

In practical sensing applications, temperature effects are of particular concern, and hence it is necessary to develop the means to correct the fluorescence intensity measurement in accordance with the working temperature. Accordingly, this study develops a modified Stern–Volmer model to compensate for the temperature drift of oxygen concentration measurements obtained using fiber-optic sensors. The oxygen sensors considered in this study are based on teraethylorthosilane (TEOS)/n-octyltriethoxysilane (Octyl-triEOS) or n-propyltrimethoxysilane (n-propyl-TriMOS)/3,3,3-trifluoropropyltrimethoxysilane (TFP-TriMOS) composite xerogels doped with platinum meso-tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)porphine (PtTFPP).

The experimental results are fitted to the modified Stern–Volmer model in order to compute suitable values for a temperature compensation coefficient at different working temperatures. It is found that the proposed temperature compensation method reduces the difference in the oxygen concentration measurement for working temperatures in the range of 25–70 °C as compared to data without compensation. The linearity and sensitivity of PtTFPP-doped n-propyl-TriMOS/TFP-TriMOS sensor are better than PtTFPP-doped TEOS/Octyl-triEOS sensor for working temperatures in the range of 25–70 °C.

The proposed approach could provide a straightforward and effective means of improving the accuracy of fiber-optic oxygen sensors if a variable attenuator is designed according to the temperature compensation coefficient. Thus, the fiber-optic oxygen sensor with a variable attenuator could work in a broad temperature range without using a temperature sensor.  相似文献

To improve the sensitivity of a single-mode D-type optical fiber sensor, we selected a D-type optical fiber sensor with 4 mm long and 4 μm core thickness made of a single-mode fiber, a Au-coating on the sensor with a thickness range of 15–32 nm, a light wavelength of 632.8 nm, and an incident angle of 86.5–89.5° for different refractive index (1.33–1.40) sensing. These simulations are based on the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) theory using the phase method which shows that the sensitivity is proportional to the refractive index, Au film thickness and lower incident angle on the sensing interface. The sensitivity is higher than 4000 (degree/RIU), and the resolution is better than 2.5 × 10−6(RIU) as the minimum phase variation is 0.01°. This device is used to detect the refractive index or gas or liquid concentration in real-time. The proposed sensor is small, simple, inexpensive, and provides an in vivo test.  相似文献

The assessment of heat radiation   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Approximately 900 climatic chamber experiments were performed with 16 male subjects to study the thermal strain at climates including increased heat radiation. Based on the reactions of heart rate, rectal temperature and sweat rate, a heat stress index was developed for the assessment of climates with effective heat radiation intensities up to 1400 W m−2. The index considers different combinations of dry air temperature (5–55°C), globe temperature (25–76°C), mean radiant temperature (25–160°C), air velocity (0.5–2.0 m s−1), clothing, physical work load and directions of radiation and air flow.

The index integrates combinations of the variables producing the same degree of thermal strain into a single value. This value indicates the temperature of the physiologically equivalent climate in which air and radiant temperature are equal. It can be determined from a simple formula or from correspondent graphs.

In comparison, the international recommended heat stress indices are less capable to evaluate heat radiation correctly. The incorporation of the new partial index into the used indices may improve substantially their physiological validity in the assessment of climates with radiant heat stress.

Relevance to industry

The goal of this paper is to provide an improved assessment of thermal stress in working environments in which heat radiation is an important heat stress factor.  相似文献

A piezoresistive pressure sensor for relative or differential pressure applications has been developed. The use of a 10 μm thick bossed membrane provides high sensitivity (typically 3.3 μV/V Pa) in the low-pressure range (0–60 hPa). Adaptation of sensor fabrication to a triple-diffusion bipolar process by application of an electrochemical etch-stop at a diffused n-type layer on a p-substrate allows monolithic integration of two different conditioning circuits operating with battery voltages of 12 to 20 V. Both circuits provide bias stabilization and temperature compensation for temperatures between −30 and +90°C. Thus the possibility of sensor fabrication by using standard IC technologies is demonstrated.  相似文献

A new quartz rate gyro sensor has been developed for automotive controls. The principle of the sensor is detection of the Coriolis force with a vibrator. An H shape vibrator supported with a stem at its center was used. The vibrator supported at the center was good for the isolation of a small detection motion from a large excitation motion. A new mechanical coupling model and the FEM analysis were used to reduce output offset of the sensor. The detection range of the sensor is from −100 to 100°/s. The sensor output offset is small within ±1°/s in the wide temperature range from −30 to 85 °C. The developed quartz rate sensor satisfied required specifications and wide temperature stability.  相似文献

Potentiometric cell, Au/LiCoO2 5 m/o Co3O4/Li2.88PO3.73N0.14/Li2CO3/Au, has been fabricated and investigated for monitoring CO2 gas. A LiCoO2–Co3O4 mixture was used as the solid-state reference electrode instead of a reference gas. The idea is to keep the lithium activity constant on the reference side using thermodynamic equilibrium at a given temperature. The thermodynamic stability of the reference electrode was studied from the phase stability diagram of Li–Co–C–O system. The Gibb’s free energy of formation of LiCoO2 was estimated at 500°C from the measured value of the cell emf. The sensors showed good reversibility and fast response toward changing CO2 concentrations from 200 to 3000 ppm. The emf values were found to follow a logarithmic Nernstian behavior in the 400–500°C temperature range. CH4 gas did not show any interference effect. Humidity and CO gas decreased the emf values of the sensor slightly. NO and NO2 gases affect this sensor significantly at low temperatures. However, increased operating temperature seems to reduce the interference.  相似文献

Power plant cooling water systems that interact with nearby effluents are complex non-linear, large-time-delay systems. A neural network-based software tool was developed for prediction of the canal water discharge temperature at a coal-fired power plant as a function of plant operating parameters and local weather conditions, including tide information. The plant has four units totaling an installed capacity of 1550 MW and its water thermal discharge is environmentally regulated. In the summer months, when the price of electricity is very profitable and the risk of exceeding the canal temperature limit is greater, the tradeoff between maximum generation and environmental compliance violations is financially significant. The software is a predictive tool to assist in scheduling load generation among the plant's four units without exceeding a thermal discharge limit of 95 °F. Back propagation neural network architectures were trained using plant operating data with an ‘off-set’ component. The artificial intelligence models produced reasonable trends for year-round prediction and different operational scenarios. Comparison of measured and predicted canal temperatures indicated an accuracy of less than 0.3 °F over the range between 90 and 95 °F. The software tool was developed as an Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) for Process Control (OPC) client, with real-time communication and interface with the plant Distributed Control System (DCS).  相似文献

Barium strontium titanate (Ba1−xSrxTiO3) ferroelectric thin films have been prepared by metal organic decomposition (MOD) on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si and on micromachined wafer with an aim to fabricate dielectric bolometer type infrared (IR) sensor. The XRD pattern and DV hysteresis curve of the film have been measured in order to investigate the effects of the final annealing temperature and annealing time on the property of the film. The results show that the films annealed at 700 °C or 800 °C all have good perovskite structure, while the film annealed at 800 °C has better ferroelectric loops. Films annealed at 800 °C with different annealing time from 5 to 60 min show a similar perovskite structure, among which films annealed at 30 and 60 min condition have the better ferroelectric loops. Temperature coefficient of dielectric constant (TCD) of the MOD made BST thin film on micromachined substrate is about 1%/K. The uniformity of the BST film on micromachined Si wafer also has been confirmed to be good enough for operation of sensor array. Chopperless operation has been attained and infrared response evaluation of the fabricated sensor also has been carried out with Rv of 0.4 kV/W and D* of 1.0×108 cm Hz1/2/W, respectively.  相似文献

The thermoelectrochemistry of ascorbic acid (AA) at a disposable screen-printed carbon electrode (SPE) was studied in this paper. The response of AA is greatly suppressed at higher temperatures when the electrolyte solution containing AA is directly heated. On the other hand, as a light beam is applied to heat an SPE, it is interesting that the heated electrode is capable of increasing the detection sensitivity without decomposing the substrates. It is further applied for flow injection analysis (FIA) of AA by using a specifically designed electrochemical cell coupled with the disposable SPE. Possible reason for the enhancement in oxidation peak intensity at elevated temperature by the proposed heated electrodes operating in a non-isothermal mode is examined through in situ impedance technique as well as diffusion coefficient measurement by cyclic voltammetry. The slope of calibration plot obtained at elevated temperature (46 °C) is 0.034 μA/μM, which is 1.5 times improved than that at room temperature. Applicability in real sample shows in good agreement with the quoted value as well as the results observed by other methods.  相似文献

Na1+xZr2SixP3−xO12 are ceramic materials which are fast ionic conductors by Na+. The present work concerns the characterizations of such materials in the range x = 1.4–3.0 for their use as ion sensitive membranes. Samples were prepared by sol-gel route to obtain pellets with a high density. Characteristics, such as lattice parameters and bulk conductivity are given. Results on detection limit and selectivity of such membranes used in ISE devices are presented. The effect of the stoichiometry on electrochemical characteristics is discussed. The best performances are obtained for x = 2.0–2.2, with samples sintered at 1200°C. No influence of sintering temperature is noticeable for the selectivity, excepted for proton which is less interfering after sintering at 1200°C.  相似文献

TiO2 thin films were prepared by spin-coating of a Ti butoxide-derived sol onto oxidized silicon wafers, followed by a heat-treatment at temperatures ranging from 500 to 800 °C. The film thickness after heat-treatment at 500 °C was 50 nm. Pt addition, with a Pt:Ti nominal atomic ratio ranging from 0.01 to 0.1, was achieved by adding solutions of Pt(II) acetylacetonate to the TiO2 sols. The thin films were investigated by X-ray diffraction, evidencing that Pt promoted the structural transformation of the starting anatase phase of TiO2 to rutile, with a more enhanced effect with increasing the Pt concentration and/or the heat-treatment temperature. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy evidenced that, when a Pt:Ti atomic ratio of 0.05 and a heat treatment at 500 °C were used, the TiO2 contained both anatase and rutile phases and interspersed Pt nanocrystals (2–3 nm). This result allowed attributing the structural transformation in TiO2 to the strain created by the Pt nanocrystals—a conclusion which was further corroborated by the observation that Pd-modified films, prepared under similar conditions, were only composed of anatase TiO2 and did not contain any Pd nanocrystals. The films heat-treated at 500 °C were able to withstand a full microelectronic processing sequence, including dry etching for gas sensors sensitive area definition, Ti/Pt contact formation, and heater processing on the backside of the sensor substrates. H2 gas-sensing tests evidenced that the anatase TiO2 phase was much more sensitive than the rutile one. The presence of Pt further enhanced the gas-sensing properties, lowering the optimum sensor operation temperature to about 330 °C and allowing for the detection of a minimum H2 concentration of about 1000 ppm.  相似文献

The electrochemical dissolved-oxygen sensor is a powerful tool in medical, biological and environmental applications. The authors have developed a new auto-calibrated miniature microhole cathode array sensor for measuring dissolved oxygen and ionic conductivity. Operating in the three-electrode potentiostatic mode, the sensor consists of two identical gold working electrodes with a multiple-cathode array, and Ag/AgCl reference electrode, a gold counter electrode and a Pt thermal resistor. One of the working electrodes is used for oxygen measurement and the other for calibration. The two working electrodes can also be used to measure the conductance of a solution by switching the sensor over to a conductance-measuring circuit. Evaluation of the sensor characteristics has given promising results. A linear relationship is observed for calibration of the sensor over the oxygen concentration range 3–16 ppm in 0.1–1.0 N KCl solution at 12–25°C and 760 Torr pressure. Each sensor can work stably and continuously for more than 20 h.  相似文献

Polysilicon strain-gauge transducers   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Strain-gauge transducers with polysilicon resistors can be used successfully in various sensors. They have some advantages in comparison to monocrystalline silicon strain-gauge transducers. However, not enough information is available for the qualitative design of such transducers. The theoretical principles of the temperature dependence of the output signal for a constant supply voltage and constant supply current are described. A polysilicon strain-gauge transducer with a square diaphragm fabricated on the discussed principles is reported. It has an operating temperature range of −190- +300 °C, and weak temperature dependence of the output signal.  相似文献
