Management of complexity, changes and disturbances is one of the key issues of production today. Distributed, agent-based structures represent viable alternatives to hierarchical systems provided with reactive/proactive capabilities. In the paper, approaches to distributed manufacturing architectures are surveyed, and their fundamental features are highlighted, together with the main questions to be answered while designing new structures. Moreover, an object-oriented simulation framework for development and evaluation of multi-agent manufacturing architectures is introduced.  相似文献

A formal mathematical framework for a distributed task planning method suitable for computerintegrated manufacturing systems is proposed. All pertinent algorithms are derived. A detailed timing analysis associated with primitive actions and activities (complex tasks) execution is presented. A formal language is designed for event tracking and error specification. Based on the derived language, an error recovery mechanism (automaton) is proposed. A case study demonstrates the applicability of the presented method with and without error occurrences.Dr Kokinaki is currently Science and Engineering Research Centre, De Montfort University, UK.  相似文献

Global competition and rapidly changing customer requirements are forcing major changes in the production styles and configuration of manufacturing enterprises. Traditional centralized manufacturing systems are not able to meet these requirements. In recent years, the internet has become the worldwide information platform for the sharing of information and data. Information processing is an important challenge in an internet-based manufacturing environment, and must facilitate distribution, heterogeneity, autonomy and cooperation. This paper reviews recent trends and major developments in internet-based manufacturing. Broad categories of distributed information management are identified, based upon the development of computer integrated manufacturing, and the possible direction of future research is indicated.  相似文献

Manufacturing has faced significant changes during the last years, namely the move from a local economy towards a global and competitive economy, with markets demanding for highly customized products of high quality at lower costs, and with short life cycles. In this environment, manufacturing enterprises, to remain competitive, must respond closely to customer demands by improving their flexibility and agility, while maintaining their productivity and quality. Dynamic response to emergence is becoming a key issue in manufacturing field because traditional manufacturing control systems are built upon rigid control architectures, which cannot respond efficiently and effectively to dynamic change. In these circumstances, the current challenge is to develop manufacturing control systems that exhibit intelligence, robustness and adaptation to the environment changes and disturbances. The introduction of multi-agent systems and holonic manufacturing systems paradigms addresses these requirements, bringing the advantages of modularity, decentralization, autonomy, scalability and re-usability. This paper surveys the literature in manufacturing control systems using distributed artificial intelligence techniques, namely multi-agent systems and holonic manufacturing systems principles. The paper also discusses the reasons for the weak adoption of these approaches by industry and points out the challenges and research opportunities for the future.  相似文献

Intelligent agent systems for manufacturing applications   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Using the concept of intelligent agents, two system approaches are described for manufacturing applications. The first is based on the rule-based object (RBO) which is associated with a production-rules knowledge base and is implementable in an object-oriented development environment such as Smalltalk-80. A proof-of-concept automated guided vehicle (AGV) system of this kind has been recently developed. The second and more advanced approach is based on the intelligent agent object (IAO) and an AGV system of this kind is currently under development. This uses a multi-agent entity termed the modulon to handle more effectively both the co-operative planning task and the local route planning task.  相似文献

Integration and control of intelligence in distributed manufacturing   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The area of intelligent systems has generated a considerable amount of interest—occasionally verging on controversy—within both the research community and the industrial sector. This paper aims to present a unified framework for integrating the methods and techniques related to intelligent systems in the context of design and control of modern manufacturing systems. Particular emphasis is placed on the methodologies relevant to distributed processing over the Internet. Following presentation of a spectrum of intelligent techniques, a framework for integrated analysis of these techniques at different levels in the context of intelligent manufacturing systems is discussed. Integration of methods of artificial intelligence is investigated primarily along two dimensions: the manufacturing product life-cycle dimension, and the organizational complexity dimension. It is shown that at different stages of the product life-cycle, different intelligent and knowledge-oriented techniques are used, mainly because of the varied levels of complexity associated with those stages. Distribution of the system architecture or system control is the most important factor in terms of demanding the use of the most up-to-date distributed intelligence technologies. A tool set for web-enabled design of distributed intelligent systems is presented. Finally, the issue of intelligence control is addressed. It is argued that the dominant criterion according to which the level of intelligence is selected in technological tasks is the required precision of the resulting operation, related to the degree of generalization required by the particular task. The control of knowledge in higher-level tasks has to be executed with a strong involvement of the human component in the feedback loop. In order to facilitate the human intervention, there is a need for readily available, user-transparent computing and telecommunications infrastructure. In its final part, the paper discusses currently emerging ubiquitous systems, which combine this type of infrastructure with new intelligent control systems based on a multi-sensory perception of the state of the controlled process and its environment to give us tools to manage information in a way that would be most natural and easy for the human operator.  相似文献

This paper discusses the systematic use of group technology (GT) to support important activities of distributed manufacturing including design indexing and retrieval, variant design, variant process planning, and design critiquing. We introduce an Object-Oriented Group Technology (OOGT) scheme, which captures design data critical to the product's manufacture. Our approach uses a STEP-based product information model to generate the OOGT data automatically. The latter are then used to conduct an efficient search for similar products manufactured by selected companies and to retrieve and use information about the manufacturing processes and performance of these similar products.  相似文献

An agent-oriented methodology is presented for representation, acquisition, and processing of manufacturing knowledge along with analysis and modeling of an intelligent manufacturing system (IMS). An intelligent manufacturing system adopts heterarchical and collaborative control as its information system architecture. The behavior of the entire manufacturing system is collaboratively determined by many interacting subsystems that may have their own independent interests, values, and modes of operation. The subsystems are represented as agents. An agent's architecture and task decomposition method are presented. The agent-oriented methodology is used to analyze and model an intelligent machine cell. An intelligent machine center is considered as an autonomous, modular, reconfigurable and fault-tolerant machine tool with self-perception, decision making, and self-process planning, able to cooperate with other machines through communication. The common object request broker architecture (CORBA) distributed software control system was developed as a simple prototype. A case study illustrates an intelligent machine center.  相似文献

Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes have been increasingly used to manufacture energy storage products with dedicated material preparation and post-processing stages to enhance product properties. Most researchers focus on selecting materials and improving processes, yet the system modeling and management has not been investigated so far. This paper extends the conventional single-stage AM processes to multi-STage distRibutEd AM (STREAM) systems. In STREAM, a batch of material produced at the pre-processing stage is jointly consumed by distributed AM printers, and then the printed parts are collected for the post-processing stage. Modeling and managing such complex systems have been challenging. We propose a novel framework for “cyber-coordinated simulation” to manage the hierarchical information in STREAM. This is important because simulation can be used to infuse data into predictive analytics, thus providing guidance for the optimization and control of STREAM operations. The proposed framework is hierarchical in nature, where the single-stage, multi-stage, and distributed productions are modeled through the integration of different simulators. We demonstrate the proposed framework with simulation data from Freeze Nano Printing (FNP) AM for the fabrication of energy storage products.  相似文献

Due to the complexity of modern industrial systems, a conventional automation system is not capable of providing sufficient information management and high-level intelligent approaches, as achieving these functionalities requires the support of comprehensive data management and coordination between system devices and heterogenous information. This paper proposes the concept of e-Automation, in which computer networking and distributed intelligence agent technologies are applied to industrial automation systems, and presents a hardware and software architecture that implements this concept. An open infrastructure based on multi-agent systems is employed in the proposed architecture of e-Automation, which aims to allow the implementation of diverse tasks and to permit greater configurability than can be obtained from a traditional system. To evaluate our proposed e-Automation concept, this paper presents a case study of substation information management which adopts the proposed e-Automation architecture in power system domain.  相似文献

This paper illustrates the needs and challenges for the management of distributed manufacturing in a multi-company supply chain and processes these further as features of new IT systems. Requirements are collected from manufacturing companies and combined with insights from literature in the field of current ERP/MES system drawbacks, advantages, needs and challenges. The findings show that the needs and challenges in data integration inside SME networks are closely related to the limitations of current supply chain solutions. Current ERP-solutions lack extended enterprise support and a shared cloud-based approach. On the other hand, current MES solutions can operate the manufacturing process, but not for distributed manufacturing. As an answer to the requirements, we made a proposal for the core of architecture for next generation of MES solution in this position paper. Moreover, a pilot software tool has been developed to support the needs related to real time, cloud-based, light weight operation.  相似文献

Towards a generic distributed and collaborative digital manufacturing   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A framework for distributed manufacturing is proposed to facilitate collaborative product development and production among geographically distributed functional agents using digitalized information. Considering the complexity of products created in a distributed manufacturing scenario, it often requires close collaborations among a number of facilities. In this research work, various functional agents, such as the manufacturability evaluation agent (MEA), manufacturing resource agent (MRA), process-planning agent (PPA), manufacturing scheduling agent (MSA), shop floor agent (SFA), fault diagnosis agent (FDA), etc., can interact coherently for distributed manufacturing. With specific agents having unique functionalities, a manufacturing managing agent (MMA) acts as the centre of this distributed manufacturing system. The MMA agent assists the specific agents’ to work seamlessly and also to collaborate closely with the participating agents. In this way, the production cycle of a part can be optimized from product design to final manufacturing since all the production procedures are considered logically and every procedure is correlated. The agent language based on the knowledge query manipulation language (KQML) includes many pre-defined performatives that ease the participating agents to carry out their tasks intelligently by interpreting commands from one another. Additionally, to ensure the adaptiveness and upgradeability of the system, the internal structure of each functional agent that is based on JATLite is modularized into several components, including a communication interface, central work engine, knowledge base pool, and input/output modifier for possible future methodology enhancements.  相似文献

The multi-agent control strategy has been previously shown to improve the flexibility of complex, dynamic manufacturing systems. One key component of this strategy is the product agent. The product agent is responsible for autonomously guiding a physical part in the manufacturing system based on its production goals. Though the product agent has been described in previous works, a fully developed software architecture for the product agent that uses a model-based optimization approach has not been proposed. In this work, a product agent architecture with the capabilities to explore the local environment, plan and schedule events based on its knowledge, and request desired actions from the resources in the system is presented and tested.  相似文献

Personalized production has emerged as a result of the increasing customer demand for more personalized products. Personalized production systems carry a greater amount of uncertainty and variability when compared with traditional manufacturing systems. In this paper, we present a smart manufacturing system using a multi-agent system and reinforcement learning, which is characterized by machines with intelligent agents to enable a system to have autonomy of decision making, sociability to interact with other systems, and intelligence to learn dynamically changing environments. In the proposed system, machines with intelligent agents evaluate the priorities of jobs and distribute them through negotiation. In addition, we propose methods for machines with intelligent agents to learn to make better decisions. The performance of the proposed system and the dispatching rule is demonstrated by comparing the results of the scheduling problem with early completion, productivity, and delay. The obtained results show that the manufacturing system with distributed artificial intelligence is competitive in a dynamic environment.  相似文献

A dynamic scheduling holon for manufacturing orders   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
This paper deals with a new architecture and negotiation protocol for the dynamic scheduling of manufacturing systems. The architecture is based on two paradigms: multi-agent systems and holonic systems. The main contribution in the architecture is the existence of holons representing tasks together with holons representing resources. The well-known contract net protocol has been adapted to handle temporal constraints and to deal with conflicts. It also deals with conflict situations, namely with the case of the indecision problem. This approach assumes that deadlines are the most important constraints to consider.  相似文献

The Internet has become the global infrastructure supporting information acquisition and retrieval from many heterogeneous data sources containing high-speed text and rich multimedia images, audio, and video. AgentRAIDER is an ongoing research project at Texas Tech University designed to develop a comprehensive architecture for an intelligent information retrieval system with distributed heterogeneous data sources. The system is designed to support intelligent retrieval and integration of information from the Internet. Current systems of this nature focus only on specific aspects of the distributed heterogeneous problem such as database queries or information filtering. Consequently, these concepts and others have never been successfully integrated into a unified, cohesive architecture. This paper discusses the design and implementation of the AgentRAIDER system and identifies areas for applications of the system in various domains.  相似文献

So far, most distributed scheduling systems have been designed for cooperative agents, and are inappropriate for self-interested agents, as for example in inter-firm interactions such as virtual enterprises. This paper discusses issues that arise in extending automated contracting to operate among such self-interested agents. We construct a leveled commitment contracting protocol that allows self-interested agents to efficiently accommodate future events by having the possibility of unilaterally decommitting from a contract based on local reasoning. A decommitment penalty is assigned to both agents in a contract to be freed from the contract, an agent only pays this penalty to the other party. It is formally shown that this leveled commitment feature in a contracting protocol increases Pareto efficiency of deals and can enable contracts by making them individually rational when no full commitment contract can. The analysis is nontrivial because self-interested agents decommit manipulatively a Nash equilibrium analysis of the decommitting game is necessary.  相似文献

Reactive and effective hybrid manufacturing control architectures, combining hierarchy and heterarchy adapted to the current constraints of the industrial market and its environment were created. In this article, a new generic hybrid control architecture called ORCA (dynamic Architecture for an Optimized and Reactive Control) is first proposed. This hybrid architecture is able to dynamically and partially switch between a hierarchical predictive architecture and a heterarchical reactive architecture, if an event forbidding the planned behavior to be followed occurs. In this article, this architecture was applied to a Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) problem and denoted ORCA-FMS. ORCA-FMS was tested on an existing manufacturing cell with simulations and real experiments to prove the applicability and the effectiveness of this kind of hybrid architecture in an industrial environment.  相似文献
