The phase transitions, lattice dynamical and thermodynamic properties of BeS, BsSe and BeTe at high pressure have been investigated with the density functional theory. The calculated equilibrium structural parameters agree well with the available experimental and theoretical values. The phase transition pressures from the zinc-blende (ZB) to the nickel arsenide (NiAs) phase of these compounds are determined. The calculated phonon dispersion curves of these compounds in ZB phase at zero pressure do not show any anomaly or instability. Dynamically, the ZB phase of BeS, BeSe and BeTe is found to be stable near transition pressures PT. Within the quasiharmonic approximation, the thermodynamic properties including the thermal expansion coefficient, heat capacity at constant volume, heat capacity at constant pressure and entropy are predicted.  相似文献

The structural, electronic, elastic and thermodynamic properties of α-phase Na3N under pressure are investigated by performing first principles calculations within generalized gradient approximation. The elastic constants, bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young's modulus, and Poisson's ratio dependencies on pressure are also calculated. The thermodynamic properties of the α-phase Na3N are calculated using the quasi-harmonic Debye model. The dependencies of the heat capacity and the thermal expansion coefficient, as well as the Grüneisen parameter on pressure and temperature are investigated systematically in the ranges of 0–1 GPa and 0–100 K.  相似文献

We report local density functional calculations using the full potential linear muffin-tin orbital (FP-LMTO) method for binary platinum nitride (PtN), in five different crystal structures, the rock salt (B1), zinc-blende (B3), wurtzite (B4), nickel arsenide (B8), and PbS (B10) phases. The ground state properties such as the equilibrium lattice constant, elastic constants, the bulk modulus and its pressure derivative of PtN in these phases are determined and compared with the other available experimental and theoretical works. Our calculations confirm in the B3 structure that PtN is found to be mechanically stable with a large bulk modulus B=232.45 GPa and at a sufficiently high pressure the B81 structure would be favoured. The theoretical transition pressure from zinc blende (B3) to NiAs (B81), zinc-blende (B3) to rock-salt (B1) and zinc-blende (B3) to PbO (B10) is determined to be 9.10 GPa, 9.85 GPa and 69.35 GPa, respectively. Our calculation shows also in five different structures for PtN a high bulk modulus is a good indicator of a hard material.  相似文献

We report local density-functional calculations using the full-potential linearized muffin-tin orbital method (FP-LMTO) for platinum carbide (PtC) in the, rock-salt (B1), zinc-blende (B3), wurtzite (B4), nickel-arsenide (B8) and PbO (B10) structures. The ground state properties such as the equilibrium lattice constant, elastic constants, the bulk modulus and its pressure derivative of PtC in these phases are determined and compared with available experimental and theoretical data. Our calculations show that the ground state phase of PtC to be zinc-blende (B3) structure at zero pressure and the nickel-arsenide (B8) structure is a high-pressure phase. The transition pressures at which this compound undergoes the structural phase transition from (B3) to (B8) and from (B3) to (B1) are found to be 34.25 and 51.28 GPa, respectively. The highest bulk modulus values in the nickel-arsenide (B8), zinc-blende (B3), rock-salt (B1) and PbO (B10) structures indicate that PtC is a hard material.  相似文献

Using the first-principles density-functional theory within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA), we have investigated the structural, elastic, mechanical, electronic, and optical properties and phase transition of CuInO2. Structural parameters including lattice constants and internal parameter, pressure effects and phase transition pressure were calculated. We have obtained the elastic coefficients, bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio. We find that two phases of CuInO2 are indirect band gap semiconductors (F–Γ and H–Γ for 3R and 2H, respectively). Optical properties, including the dielectric function, refractive index, extinction coefficient, reflectivity, absorption coefficient, loss function and optical conductivity have been obtained for radiations of up to 30 eV.  相似文献

The electronic, elastic and dynamical properties of MgSe in the rocksalt (B1) and iron silicide (B28) phase and the effects of pressure on these properties are investigated using first-principles method. The calculated electronic band structure indicates that the B1 phase of MgSe presents an indirect band-gap feature and the band gaps initially increase with pressure and subsequently decrease upon compression. Remarkably, an indirect-to-direct band-gap transition has been observed at the phase transition pressure. The elastic constants, bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young’s modulus, elastic anisotropy and B/G ratio of MgSe in the B1 and B28 phase at high pressure have also been investigated. The bulk modulus, shear modulus and Young’s modulus all increase monotonously with the increasing of pressure for the B1 and B28 phase of MgSe. The calculated phonon frequencies of the B1 phase at zero pressure agree well with available theoretical results. And the transverse acoustic phonon TA(X) mode of this phase completely softening to zero at 82 GPa. The phonon curves of the B28 phase under pressure have also been successfully investigated.  相似文献

The phase transition of gallium phosphide (GaP) from zinc-blende (ZB) to a rocksalt (RS) structure is investigated by the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory (DFT). Lattice constant a0, elastic constants cij, bulk modulus B0 and the pressure derivative of bulk modulus B0' are calculated. The results are in good agreement with numerous experimental and theoretical data. From the usual condition of equal enthalpies, the phase transition from the ZB to the RS structure occurs at 21.9 GPa, which is close to the experimental value of 22.0 GPa. The elastic properties of GaP with the ZB structure in a pressure range from 0 GPa to 21.9 GPa and those of the RS structure in a pressure range of pressures from 21.9 GPa to 40 GPa are obtained. According to the quasi-harmonic Debye model, in which the phononic effects are considered, the normalized volume V/V0, the Debye temperature θ, the heat capacity Cv and the thermal expansion coefficient α are also discussed in a pressure range from 0 GPa to 40 GPa and a temperature range from 0 K to 1500 K.  相似文献

A theoretical study of the structural, elastic and thermodynamic properties of the cubic zinc-blende (ZB) structure InN are presented in this paper by performing first principles calculations within local density approximation. The values of lattice constant, bulk modulus and its pressure derivatives and elastic constants are in excellent agreement with the available experimental data and other theoretical results. It is found that the ZB structure InN should be unstable above 20 GPa mechanically. The pressure and temperature dependencies of the bulk modulus, the heat capacity and the thermal expansion coefficient and the entropy S, as well as the Grüneisen parameter are obtained by the quasi-harmonic Debye model in the ranges of 0-1500 K and 0-25 GPa.  相似文献

We present in this paper the results of an ab initio theoretical study within the local density approximation (LDA) to determine in rock-salt (B1), cesium chloride (B2), zinc-blende (B3), and tungsten carbide (WC) type structures, the structural, elastic constants, hardness properties and high-pressure phase of the noble metal carbide of ruthenium carbide (RuC).The ground state properties such as the equilibrium lattice constant, elastic constant, the bulk modulus, its pressure derivative, and the hardness in the four phases are determined and compared with available theoretical data. Only for the three phases B1, B3, and WC, is the RuC mechanically stable, while in the B2 phase it is unstable, but in B3 RuC is the most energetically favourable phase with the bulk modulus 263 GPa, and at sufficiently high pressure (Pt=19.2 GPa) the tungsten carbide (WC) structure would be favoured, where ReC-WC is meta-stable.The highest bulk modulus values in the B3, B2, and WC structures and the hardnesses of H(B3)=36.94 GPa, H(B1)=25.21 GPa, and H(WC)=25.30 GPa indicate that the RuC compound is a superhard material in B3, and is not superhard in B1 and WC structures compared with the H(diamond)=96 GPa.  相似文献

The mechanical, thermodynamical and elastic properties of Hg0.91Mn0.09Te compound are calculated by formulating an effective interionic interaction potential. This potential consists of the long-range Coulomb, three body force parameter, the Hafemeister and Flygare type short-range overlap repulsion extended upto the second neighbor ions and the van der Waals (vdW) interaction. The estimated values of phase transition pressure have revealed reasonably good agreement with the available experimental data on the phase transition pressure P t = 11.5 GPa and the vast volume discontinuity in pressure-volume (PV) phase diagram indicate the structural phase transition from zincblende (B3) to rock salt (B1) structure. Later on, the Poisson’s ratio ν, the ratio R S/B of S (Voigt averaged shear modulus) over B (bulk modulus), elastic anisotropy parameter, elastic wave velocity, average wave velocity and Debye temperature as functions of pressure is calculated. From Poisson’s ratio and the ratio R S/B it is inferred that Hg0.91Mn0.09Te is brittle in nature in both B3 phase and B1 phase. To our knowledge this is the first quantitative theoretical prediction of the pressure dependence of ductile (brittle) nature of Hg0.91Mn0.09Te compounds and still awaits experimental confirmations.  相似文献

The structural, phase transition, elastic, lattice dynamic and thermodynamic properties of rare-earth compounds PrP and PrAs with NaCl (B1), CsCl (B2), ZB (B3), WC (Bh) and CuAu (L10) structures are investigated using the first principles calculations within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). For the total-energy calculation, we have used the projected augmented plane-wave (PAW) implementation of the Vienna Ab-initio Simulation Package (VASP). Specifically, some basic physical parameters, e.g. lattice constants, bulk modulus, elastic constants, shear modulus, Young's modulus and Poison's ratio, are predicted. The obtained equilibrium structure parameters are in excellent agreement with the experimental and theoretical data. The temperature and pressure variations of the volume, bulk modulus, thermal expansion coefficient, heat capacity and Debye temperature are calculated in wide pressure and temperature ranges. The phonon dispersion curves and corresponding one-phonon density of states (DOS) for both compounds are also computed in the NaCl (B1) structure.  相似文献

Ab initio calculations, based on norm-conserving nonlocal pseudopotentials and density functional theory (DFT), are performed to investigate the structural, elastic, dielectric, and vibrational properties of aluminum arsenide AlAs with zinc-blende (B3) structure and nickel arsenide (B81) structure under hydrostatic pressure. Firstly, the path for the phase transition from B3 to B81 is confirmed by analyzing the energies of different structures, which is in good agreement with previous theoretical results. Secondly, we find that the elastic constants, bulk modulus, static dielectric constants, and the optical phonon frequencies are varying in a nearly linear manner under hydrostatic pressure. What is more, the softening mode of transversal acoustic mode at X point supports the phase transition in AlAs.  相似文献

The elastic, electronic, thermodynamic and optical properties of the zinc-blende structure aluminum nitride (AlN) under high pressure have been investigated using first-principles calculations. The dependencies of the elastic constants, the bulk modulus, the shear modulus and energy gaps on the applied pressure are presented, and the results are in good agreement with comparable experimental and theoretical values. Also, the energy band structure and density of states under high pressure have been analysed. Furthermore, the optical constants, including the dielectric function, optical reflectivity, refractive index and electron energy loss, are discussed for radiation up to 50 eV.  相似文献

The structural, elastic and thermodynamic properties of thorium tetraboride (ThB4) have been investigated by using first-principles plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory with generalized gradient approximation. The behaviors of structural parameters under 0-70 GPa hydrostatic pressure are studied by means of Broyden, Fletcher, Goldfarb, and Shanno (BFGS) geometry optimization scheme. By using the stress-strain method, single crystal elastic constants are calculated to test the mechanical stability of the crystal structure and to determine mechanical properties such as bulk modulus at each pressure. However, in order to study the thermodynamic properties of ThB4, the quasi-harmonic Debye model is used. Then, the dependencies of bulk modulus, heat capacities, thermal expansions, Grüneisen parameters and Debye temperatures on the temperature and pressure are obtained in the whole pressure range 0-70 GPa and temperature range 0-1500 K.

The high pressure structural, elastic and thermal properties of holmium pnictides HoX (X=N, P, As and Bi) were investigated theoretically by using an inter-ionic potential theory with modified ionic charge parameter. We have predicted a structural phase transition from NaCl (B1) to CsCl (B2)-type structure at pressure of 139 GPa for HoN, 52 GPa for HoP, 44 GPa for HoAs and 26 GPa for HoBi. Other properties, such as lattice constant, bulk modulus, cohesive energy, second and third-order elastic constants were calculated and compared with the available experimental and theoretical data. In order to gain further information the brittle behaviour of these compounds was observed. Some other properties like Shear modulus (G), Young's modulus (E), Poisson's ratio (ν), anisotropy factor (A), sound velocities, Debye temperature (θD) were calculated. The variation of elastic constants (C11 and C44) and Debye temperature (θD) with pressure was also presented.  相似文献

The structural, electronic and optical properties of beryllium chalcogenides BeS, BeSe and BeTe using the full-potential linear augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method are investigated. The exchange-correlation energy within the local density approximation (LDA) and the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) are described. The Engel-Vosko (EVGGA) formalism is applied for electronic and optical properties. The structural parameters of our model and the transition pressure from zinc-blende (B3) to the NiAs (B8) phase are confirmed. It is found that these compounds have indirect band gaps except for BeTe in NiAs (B8) phase. The results of reflectivity, refractive index and optical dielectric functions of Be compounds are investigated. An agreement is found between our results and those of other theoretical calculations and the experimental data.  相似文献

The structural and mechanical properties of LnO (Ln=Sm, Eu, Yb) compounds have been investigated using a modified interionic potential theory, which includes the effect of Coulomb screening. We predicted a structural phase transition from NaCl (B1)- to CsCl (B2)-type structure and elastic properties in LnO compounds at very high pressure. The anomalous properties of these compounds have been correlated in terms of the hybridisation of f-electrons of the rare earth ion with conduction band and strong mixing of f-states of lanthanides with the p-orbital of neighbouring chalcogen ion. For EuO, the calculated transition pressure, bulk modulus and lattice parameter are close to the experimental data. The nature of bonds between the ions is predicted by simulating the ion-ion (Ln-Ln and Ln-O) distances at high pressure. The second order elastic constants along with shear modulus and Young's modulus, elastic anisotropy and Poisson's ratio are also presented for these oxides.  相似文献

We have predicted high pressure structural behavior and elastic properties of alkaline earth tellurides (AETe; AE = Ca, Sr, Ba) by using two body interionic potential approach with modified ionic charge (Z m e). This method has been found quite satisfactory in case of the rare earth compounds. The equation of state curve, structural phase transition pressure from NaCl (B1) to CsCl (B2) phase and associated volume collapse at transition pressure of alkaline earth tellurides (AETe) obtained from this approach, so have been compared with experimentally measured data reveal good agreement. We have also investigated bulk modulus, second and third order elastic constants and pressure derivatives of second order elastic constants at ambient pressure which shows predominantly ionic nature of these compounds. First time, we have calculated the Poisson ratio, Young and Shear modulus of these compounds.   相似文献
