The alkyl esters of beeswax, after isolation from the unhydrolyzed wax by preparative layer chromatography (PLC), have been analyzed directly by high temperature GLC using 1.5% OV1 as liquid phase. In two commercial wax samples examined the ester homologues are predominantly even carbon numbered ranging from C36 to C54. The principal alkyl esters are C40, C42, C44, C46 and C48. The GLC analysis of the ester hydrolysis products revealed that the variations in ester chain length are produced by variations in the esterified primary alcohol chain lengths. The esterified fatty acid is chiefly hexadecanoic acid. The esterified fatty acids differ in composition from the free fatty acids which are also present in the wax.  相似文献

The cuticular lipids of cabbage seedpod weevils (Ceutorrhynchus assimilis Payk.) and those at their oviposition site, i.e., the seed pods of the host plant (Brassica napus L.), were analyzed by chromatographic techniques in conjunction with mass spectrometry (MS). Long chain hydrocarbons were most abundant in both lipids; however, the seed pods ofB. napus containedn-alkanes only, whereasC. assimilis showed a predominance of dimethylalkanes over internally branched methylalkanes as well as iso- andn-alkanes. The amounts of ketones, secondary alcohols and aldehydes, the usual plant components that are unique in insects, occurred in cuticular lipids of both organisms in approximately the same ratio. The composition ofn-alkanes,n-ketones, secondaryn-alcohols, iso- and anteisoaldehydes and esterified primary anteiso-alcohols of wax esters was similar betweenC. assimilis andB. napus. In both sources, qualitative but not quantitative similarities were observed in the composition ofn-aldehydes and esterified primaryn- and iso-alcohols, respectively. The esterified fatty acids of wax esters fromB. napus were composed of roughly equal proportions of saturated branched and unbranched components. The esterified fatty acids of wax esters and steryl esters fromC. assimilis consisted of major proportions of saturated as well as unsaturatedn-compounds, whereas iso- and anteiso structures were present in minor proportions only. Free fatty acids and traces of ethyl esters of fatty acids found inC. assimilis were mainly composed of unsaturatedn-compounds.  相似文献

Sperm whale oil analysis by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Gas liquid chromatography of winterized sperm oil showed that its wax esters with even carbon numbers range from C24 to C42 and are present in quantities resembling a normal distribution curve with C34 as the mean. Between these even-numbered wax esters, ones with odd chain lengths were eluted. Triglycerides, similarly present in a normal distribution pattern, ranged from C42 to C58 and also included traces of odd chain species. The component acids and alcohols were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and double bond positions in the monoenoid components were established. Branched chain and odd chain constituents, both saturated and unsaturated, were detected among both alcohols and acids. These moieties, when combined with those having even chains, are responsible for the wax esters and triglycerides with odd carbon numbers. ARS, USDA.  相似文献

The lipids of the cystacanth of the acanthocephalanPolymorphus minutus have been analyzed. Wax esters constituted nearly 90% of the total cystacanth lipids. The wax ester fraction contained approximately 10% steroid ester; the rest was long chain alcohols C12 to C20, largely saturated, esterified with fatty acids C12 to C22, mostly unsaturated, with C18 predominating. Corresponding quantities of wax esters were not found in the adult parasite. Cholesterol was identified as the only steroid present in the cystacanth.  相似文献

The carbon chain length distribution and the double bond positional isomer composition of the monoenoic fatty acids of the lipids of total human brain tissue have been determined using gas chromatography and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry of the fatty acid methyl and picolinyl esters. The even chain length monoenoic C16 to C28 fatty acids contain predominantly two positional isomer series, the n−7 and n−9cis homologues, whose relative proportion varies significantly with chain length. The odd chain length long-chain fatty acids consist of n−8 and n−10 isomers, whereas the odd chain length very long-chain (more than 22 carbon) fatty acids are n−7 and n−9 isomers.  相似文献

Wax esters of secondary alcohols constitute 18–20% of the cuticular lipid extract ofMelanoplus packardii and 26–31% of the cuticular lipids ofMelanoplus sanguinipes. The total number of carbons in the wax esters range from 37–54 with 41 predominating in both species. The fatty acids ofM. packardii wax esters are 16∶0, 18∶0, 14∶0, 20∶0 and 12∶0 in decreasing quantity. The fatty acids ofM. sanguinipes wax esters are 18∶0, 20∶0, 16∶0 22∶0, 14∶0, 19∶0 and 17∶0 in decreasing quantity. The secondary alcohols from the wax esters ofM. packardii are C25, C23 and C27 in decreasing quantity, and the secondary alcohols of theM. sanguinipes are C23, C25, C21, C27, C24, C22 and C26 in decreasing quantity. Each secondary alcohol consists of two to four isomers with the hydroxyl group located near the center of the chain. Montana Agriculture Experiment Station, Journal Series No. 332.  相似文献

A total of fifteen saturated fatty acid esters were newly identified from the secretions of an unidentified Anaulaciulus sp. (Julida: Julidae). The fatty acid components of the esters were composed of normal chain acids (from C10 to C14) and of branched chain acids (from iso-C12 to iso-C15 and anteiso-C15). The alcohol moieties were all composed of normal chain alcohols varying from n-butanol to n-octanol. The most abundant component found in the total esters was n-hexyl laurate (64.7%). Novel compounds identified from the millipede secretion extracts include six branched iso- and anteiso-fatty esters, an odd-numbered C11-fatty acid ester, a C13-fatty acid ester, and a C7-alcohol ester, all of which were previously undescribed natural products. In addition, a characteristic mixture of benzoquinones, such as 2-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone, 2-methoxy-3-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone, 2,3-dimethoxy-1,4-benzoquinone, 2-methoxy-6-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone, and 2,3-dimethoxy-5-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone were identified from the secretions, together with trace amounts of 1,4-benzoquinone.  相似文献

The melon and jaw lipids of the freshwater dolphinSotalia fluviatilis are composed mainly of isovaleroyl wax esters and diisovaleroyl triglycerides. The blubber fat contains only a trace of wax ester and is mostly tri- (long chain) and monoisovaleroyl triglycerides. Detailed gas liquid chromatographic analyses of the intact wax esters and triglycerides and of the derived fatty acids and fatty alcohols indicate common compositional patterns in the wax esters and triglycerides of the respective head lipids. Both odd and even long chain (C12−C16) iso-structures are prominent in the melon and jaw lipids, but only higher odd chain length iso-acids are major components in the blubber.Sotalia fluviatilis (family Delphinidae) andInia geoffrensis (family Platanistidae) share the same freshwater habitat in the upper Amazon River, and both utilize echolocation to navigate and to find food. Comparison of their respective bioacoustical lipid compositions shows distinctive types of head fats,Sotalia being rich in iso-5∶0 andIndia lacking iso-5∶0. This indicates that isovaleric acid per se has no obligatory role in dolphin echolocation.  相似文献

Skin-surface lipids from the monkeyMacaca fascicularis are composed of sterol esters (38%), cholesterol (4%) and two types of wax diesters, identified as Type II (IIa and IIb, 17% and 40%, respectively). Type IIa contained diesters of 1,2-alkanediols esterified with two molecules of long-chain (C14−C34) fatty acids having straight and branched chains. In the diesters IIa, fatty acids shorter than C19 predominated in position 1, and fatty acids longer than C20 predominated in position 2. Type IIb contained diesters of 1,2-alkanediols esterified with C4 and C5 branched-chain fatty acids (predominantly isovaleric acid) at position 1 and long-chain (C14−C27) acids, having straight and branched chains, at position 2. The shortchain acids were converted to 2-nitrophenylhydrazides and analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Ammonia chemical ionization (CI)-gas chromatography (GC)-mass spectrometry (MS) resolved the intact diesters IIb into 12 peaks corresponding to molecular weights ranging from 597 to 748, and showed that the molecular species, such as C21−C16−C5 (diol, fatty acid in position 2, fatty acid in position 1), C22−C16−C5 and C23−C16−C5, were prevalent. The fatty acids from both diesters were mostly (>98%) saturated. The 1,2-alkanediols from both diesters consisted of C16−C26 saturated straight- and branched-chain components. The acyl groups of sterol esters contained 86% C14−C34 branched-chain acids. The unsaturated fatty acids (5.4%) belonged to a straight-chain monoenoic series having extremely long chains (C18−C34). The branched-chain structures in the fatty acids and diols were iso and anteiso. These results show the species-specific profile for the skin-surface lipid synthesis.  相似文献

Composition of several coccid waxes has been determined by means of alumina and gas-liquid chromatography.Coccus ceriferus wax is a mixture of the esters of C26 and C28 alcohols with C24, C26 and C28 acids.Tachardia lacca wax has a high percentage of free alcohols (essentially C28 alcohol);Gascardia madagascariensis wax contains a large proportion of free acids. In addition to C26, C32 and C34 normal chain acids, there are several C30, C32 and C34 hydroxy acids, in which the hydroxyl function is situated in the middle of the hydrocarbon chain. Small proportions of odd and even hydrocarbons are present in all of the waxes investigated.  相似文献

Saturated, monoenoic and dienoic wax esters, C26−C40, have been synthesized from even-numbered fatty alcohols and acids. In homologous series of saturated esters, the increments of melting points follow a regular trend except for those esters which have an acid moiety two carbon atoms shorter than the alcohol moiety. These wax esters have melting points higher than interpolation would predict. Monoenoic wax esters with the double bond in the alcohol chain have melting points about 10 C higher than their isomers with the double bond in the acid chain.  相似文献

The skin surface lipid of the dog has been reported to contain a high proportion of diol diesters having a lower mobility on thin layer chromatography than diesters from other species in spite of containing similar fatty acid and diol components. In the present study, dog skin surface lipid was separated by preparative thin layer chromatography into sterol esters (42%), wax diesters (32%), free sterols (9%), polar lipids (7%), and unidentified components (10%). The diesters contained 1,2-diols, each esterified with one long chain fatty acid and one isovaleric acid moiety. The diols were principally branched chain C21 and C22 compounds while the long chain fatty acids esterified with them were mainly C20 and C21 branched compounds. The fatty acids from the sterol esters were mostly saturated, branched chain C19 to C23, together with 7% of straight chain monoenoic acids, principally C21 and C22. There were only trace amounts of free sterols other than cholesterol, while the esterified sterols contained 96% cholesterol and 4% lathosterol.  相似文献

The neutral lipids composition of defatted chickpea flour and two types of protein isolates has been studied. The main compounds in neutral lipids are triacylglycerols, free fatty acids, and diacylglycerols. Other compounds present are wax esters, free fatty alcohols, and free sterols. The main fatty acids in neutral lipids are C18:2 and C18:1 among the unsaturated, and C16:0 and C18:0 among the saturated acids. Free and esterified alcohols range from C16:0 to C28:0, the majority being those with an even number of carbon atoms. Sterols observed are β-sito-sterol, campesterol, stigmasterol, and δ-5-avenasterol. Triacyl-glycerols are partially hydrolyzed, and the amounts of unsaturated sterols and unsaturated fatty acids are reduced as a result of the chemical treatment during production of the protein isolates.  相似文献

Separation of sterol esters from wax esters in the lipids of vernix caseosa and adult human skin surface was accomplished by column chromatography on MgO. The fatty acids of the sterol esters and wax esters of both samples were separated into saturates and monoenes, and examined in detail by gas liquid chromatography (GLC). The saturated fatty acids of the wax esters of vernix caseosa and of adult human skin surface were remarkably similar. They ranged in chain length from at least C11 to C30, six skeletal types being present: straight even, straight odd, iso, anteiso, other monomethyl branched and dimethyl branched. A large number of patterns of monoenes were observed, each pattern consisting of desaturation of a specific chain at Δ6 or Δ9 plus its extension or degradation products. The mole per cent of the total Δ6 and Δ9 patterns of wax ester fatty acid monoenes of vernix caseosa were 87% and 12%, respectively, and 98% and 1%, respectively, for adult human skin surface lipid. The sterol ester fatty acids of vernix caseosa were much different from those of adult human skin surface: vernix caseosa saturates were largely branched and of lengths greater than C18, whereas the saturates of adult human surface lipid resembled the wax ester fatty acids. Of the vernix caseosa monoene patterns, the mole per cent was 30% Δ6 and 70% Δ9, whereas of the adult human skin surface sterol ester fatty acids 89% were Δ6 and 11% Δ9. Chain extension was particularly pronounced in the sterol ester fatty acid monoenes of vernix caseosa amounting to 7–8 C2 units in some cases. The fatty acids of the sterol esters of both vernix caseosa and adult human skin surface appear to be derived from the sebaceous gland and from the keratinizing epidermis, but those of the wax esters are from the sebaceous glands only.  相似文献

Trans-6-hexadecenoic acid was found in polar lipids, triglycerides, was esters and diacylglyceryl ethers of the sea anemoneMetridium dianthus from Passamaquoddy Bay. The corresponding alcomaquoddy Bay. The corresponding alcohol also apparently occurs in the wax esters of this species. The long-chain (C20, C22) monoethylenic alcohols reported for other species of sea anemones from neighboring waters were absent and the major alcohol and glyceryl ether chain both had 16∶0 structures. The isomers of C18 and C20 monoethylenic fatty acids in polar lipids and triglycerides were unusual in their high proportion of theω 7 isomer. These two lipids also contained higher proportion of the polyunsaturated fatty acids than the others.  相似文献

Wax esters were isolated from commercial orange roughy (Hoplostethus atlanticus) oil by column chromatography and fractionated by argentation thin layer chromatography. Following transesterification, the resultant fatty acid methyl esters and fatty alcohols were analyzed by gas chromatography. both acyl- and alkyl-moieties were mainly of the monoene structure within the 16∶1–22∶1 range. After derivatization, the positions of the double bonds of even numbered fatty acid and fatty alcohol isomers were located by chromatography-mass spectrometry and compared. Results of these positional analyses indicate that the primary desaturation reactions takes place in the Δ9 position of pre-existing (C14 to C24) acyl chains. It is proposed that acyl components from 18∶1 are subjected to chain elongation to form a mixture of 24∶1 isomers as the final product. Apart from the 24∶1 acyl moiety of the wax esters, in which the double bond was almost exclusively in the Δ15 position, de novo biosynthetic reactions on acids and alcohols appear to yield related acyl- and alkyl-moieties of resynthesized wax esters.  相似文献

The wax ester fraction of various plant oils was isolated by normal‐phase HPLC (NPLC) on‐line coupled to GC via the on‐column interface and applying concurrent eluent evaporation. The esters were analyzed by on‐line NPLC‐GC‐MS and by comprehensive two‐dimensional GC with flame ionization detection (GC×GC‐FID) off‐line combined with NPLC‐GC. GC×GC‐FID enables to group the various classes of wax esters, in particular the phytol esters, geranylgeraniol esters and the straight‐chain esters of palmitic acids and the unsaturated C18 acids. Optimization of the GC×GC columns and the conditions must take into account the limited thermostability of the diterpene esters. Chromatograms are shown for a range of oils, with particular focus on the various classes of wax esters in olive oil and the geranylgeraniol esters 22:0 and 24:0 in a variety of oils.  相似文献

Ester waxes and steryl glycosides of the grass Festuca argentina were studied. Saponification of the waxes from the petroleum ether extract led to n-hexacosanol as the major single linear alcohol, along with pentacyclic triterpenols, such as β-amyrin, germanicol, isobaurenol, lupeol, hopenol-a and hopeol, and low amounts of sterols, such as cholesterol, campesterol, stigmasterol, sitosterol and dihydrositosterol, identified by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Fatty acids were identified as methyl esters as C12∶0, C14∶0, C16∶0, C18∶0, C18∶2, and C20∶0. The occurrence of a wide chainlength range of fatty acids and a single linear alcohol closely matched for other reports on the tribe Festuceae. On the contrary, pentacyclic triterpenols with a variety of skeletons, especially isobauerenol, are not usual as esters of fatty acids in the Gramineae. Low amounts of steryl glycosides were also obtained from the methylene chloride percolate of the methanol extract. Upon acetylation followed by hydrolysis, aglycones were identified by capillary gas-liquid chromatography (GLC) and GC/MS. As Δ7-cholesterol, campesterol, stigmasterol, sitosterol, dihydrositosterol, and the sugars as glucose, xylose, and arabinose by GLC of the respective alditol acetates. This is the first report on the linear, steryl, and triterpenyl esters of F. argentina. It is noteworthy that Δ7-steryl glycosides are rare, and steryl monoarabinosides have not been proviously reported on the family Gramineae.  相似文献

The chemical composition and selected physical parameters of wax extracted from flax straw with supercritical CO2 (SC‐CO2) and hexane have been determined. From the GC/MS results, clear variations in composition and component distributions were observed between SC‐CO2‐ and hexane‐extracted samples. The major components of the SC‐CO2 and hexane extracts from three flax cultivars were: fatty acids (36–49%), fatty alcohols (20–26%), aldehydes (10–14%), wax esters (5–12%), sterols (7–9%) and alkanes (4–5%). Purification of SC‐CO2‐extracted wax with silica gel chromatography yielded 0.4–0.5% (dry matter) and was composed primarily of wax esters (C44, C46 and C48) and alkanes (C27, C29 and C31). UV‐Vis scans of the purified wax samples exhibited two main peaks indicating the presence of conjugated dienes and carotenoids or related compounds. Fourier transform infrared results showed prominent peaks at 2918 (‐C‐H), 2849 (‐C‐H), 1745 (‐C=O), 1462 (‐C‐H), 1169 (‐C‐O) and 719 cm–1 (‐(CH2)n‐), with NorLin wax showing a slightly deviating pattern compared to the other samples. Thermal analysis by differential scanning calorimetry revealed a mean melting point of 55–56 °C and oxidation temperatures of 146–153 °C for purified wax from flax straw processed using different procedures.  相似文献

Extraction, fractionation, and gas chromatography−mass spectrometry analyses guided by bioassays have shown that n-alkanes and free fatty acids in leaf epicuticular wax of the Japanese knotweed Fallopia (Reynoutria) japonica stimulate oviposition in the Far-Eastern knotweed borer, Ostrinia latipennis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae). n-Alkanes made up 48.1% of the total amount of epicuticular wax, and their carbon chain length was in the C16−C33 range, with n-nonacosane (n-C29) most abundant, followed by n-C27, n-C25, and n-C31. Free fatty acids with C9−C22 accounted for 22.3%, and hexadecanoic acid was predominant. A mixture of authentic n-alkanes and fatty acids of the composition found in the epicuticular wax, a mixture of n-alkanes, and a mixture of fatty acids significantly enhanced oviposition. Thus, it was demonstrated that both n-alkanes and free fatty acids in leaf epicuticular wax of F. japonica are naturally occurring oviposition stimulants for O. latipennis.  相似文献
