In this article, we study an explicit scheme for the solution of sine‐Gordon equation when the space discretization is carried out by an overlapping multidomain pseudo‐spectral technique. By using differentiation matrices, the equation is reduced to a nonlinear system of ordinary differential equations in time that can be discretized with the explicit fourth‐order Runge–Kutta method. To achieve approximation with high accuracy in large domains, the number of space grid points must be large enough. This yields very large and full matrices in the pseudo‐spectral method that causes large memory requirements. The domain decomposition approach provides sparsity in the matrices obtained after the discretization, and this property reduces storage for large matrices and provides economical ways of performing matrix–vector multiplications. Therefore, we propose a multidomain pseudo‐spectral method for the numerical simulation of the sine‐Gordon equation in large domains. Test examples are given to demonstrate the accuracy and capability of the proposed method. Numerical experiments show that the multidomain scheme has an excellent long‐time numerical behavior for the sine‐Gordon equation in one and two dimensions. The notion of spectral radius of a set of matrices is a natural extension of spectral radius of a single matrix. The finiteness conjecture (FC) claims that among the infinite products made from the elements of a given finite set of matrices, there is a certain periodic product, made from the repetition of the optimal product, whose rate of growth is maximal. FC has been disproved. In this paper it is conjectured that FC is almost always true, and an algorithm is presented to verify the optimality of a given product. The algorithm uses optimal norms, as a special subset of extremal norms. Several conjectures related to optimal norms and non-decomposable sets of matrices are presented. The algorithm has successfully calculated the spectral radius of several parametric families of pairs of matrices associated with compactly supported multi-resolution analyses and wavelets. The results of related numerical experiments are presented.  相似文献

In this paper, we use the analytic theory for 2 and 3-Toeplitz matrices to obtain the explicit expressions for the eigenvalues, eigenvectors and the spectral measure associated to the corresponding infinite matrices. We present a new approach, based on graphon theory, to finding the limiting spectral distributions of general Wigner‐type matrices. This approach determines the moments of the limiting measures and the equations of their Stieltjes transforms explicitly with weaker assumptions on the convergence of variance profiles than previous results. As applications, we give a new proof of the semicircle law for generalized Wigner matrices and determine the limiting spectral distributions for three sparse inhomogeneous random graph models with sparsity ω(1/n): inhomogeneous random graphs with roughly equal expected degrees, W‐random graphs and stochastic block models with a growing number of blocks. Furthermore, we show our theorems can be applied to random Gram matrices with a variance profile for which we can find the limiting spectral distributions under weaker assumptions than previous results.  相似文献

We establish theoretical comparison results for algebraic multi-level methods applied to non-singular non-symmetric M-matrices. We consider two types of multi-level approximate block factorizations or AMG methods, the AMLI and the MAMLI method. We compare the spectral radii of the iteration matrices of these methods. This comparison shows, that the spectral radius of the MAMLI method is less than or equal to the spectral radius of the AMLI method. Moreover, we establish how the quality of the approximations in the block factorization effects the spectral radii of the iteration matrices. We prove comparisons results for different approximations of the fine grid block as well as for the used Schur complement. We also establish a theoretical comparison between the AMG methods and the classical block Jacobi and block Gauss-Seidel methods.  相似文献

The topic of the paper is spectral factorization of rectangular and possibly non-full-rank polynomial matrices. To each polynomial matrix we associate a matrix pencil by direct assignment of the coefficients. The associated matrix pencil has its finite generalized eigenvalues equal to the zeros of the polynomial matrix. The matrix dimensions of the pencil we obtain by solving an integer linear programming (ILP) minimization problem. Then by extracting a deflating subspace of the pencil we come to the required spectral factorization. We apply the algorithm to most general-case of inner–outer factorization, regardless continuous or discrete time case, and to finding the greatest common divisor of polynomial matrices.  相似文献

We review known factorization results for quaternion matrices. Specifically, we derive the Jordan canonical form, polar decomposition, singular value decomposition, and QR factorization. We prove that there is a Schur factorization for commuting matrices, and from this derive the spectral theorem. Orthonormal matrices are a class of well-conditioned matrices with the least spectral condition number. Here, at first it is shown that a recently proposed choice for parameter of the Dai–Liao nonlinear conjugate gradient method makes the search direction matrix as close as possible to an orthonormal matrix in the Frobenius norm. Then, conducting a brief singular value analysis, it is shown that another recently proposed choice for the Dai–Liao parameter improves spectral condition number of the search direction matrix. Thus, theoretical justifications of the two choices for the Dai–Liao parameter are enhanced. Finally, some comparative numerical results are reported.  相似文献

We exploit the even and odd spectrum of real symmetric Toeplitz matrices for the computation of their extreme eigenvalues, which are obtained as the solutions of spectral, or secular, equations. We also present a concise convergence analysis for a method to solve these spectral equations, along with an efficient stopping rule, an error analysis, and extensive numerical results.

On the basis of nonnegative matrices, some (I + S)-type preconditioners based on the SOR method are studied. Moreover, we prove the monotonicity of spectral radii of iterative matrices with respect to the parameters in [12]. Also, some splittings and preconditioners are compared and derived by comparisons.
