Plane and axisymmetric contact problems for a three-layer elastic half-space are considered. The plane problem is reduced to a singular integral equation of the first kind whose approximate solution is obtained by a modified Multhopp-Kalandiya method of collocation. The axisymmetric problem is reduced to an integral Fredholm equation of the second kind whose approximate solution is obtained by a specially developed method of collocation over the nodes of the Legendre polynomial. An axisymmetric contact problem for an transversely isotropic layer completely adherent to an elastic isotropic half-space is also considered. Examples of calculating the characteristic integral quantities are given. __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika i Tekhnicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 47, No. 3, pp. 165–175, May–June, 2006.  相似文献

The idea, first used by the author for the case of crack problems, is applied here to solve a contact problem for a transversely isotropic elastic layer resting on a smooth elastic half-space, made of a different transversely isotropic material. A rigid punch of arbitrary shape is pressed against the layer’s free surface. The governing integral equation is derived; it is mathematically equivalent to that of an electrostatic problem of an infinite row of coaxial charged disks in the shape of the domain of contact. The case of circular domain of contact is considered in detail. As a comparison, the method of integral transforms is also used to solve the problem. The main difference of our integral transform approach with the existing ones is in separating of our half-space solution from the integral transform terms. It is shown that both methods lead to the same results, thus giving a new interpretation to the integral transform as a sum of an infinite series of generalized images.  相似文献

A rigid insulated die slides at a constant sub-critical speed on a transversely isotropic half-space in the presence of friction. In a two-dimensional analysis of the dynamic steady-state, the coupled equations of thermoelasticity are invoked. All elements of the Coulomb friction model are strictly enforced, thus giving rise to auxiliary conditions, including two unilateral constraints.Robust asymptotic forms of an exact solution to a related problem with unmixed boundary conditions lead to analytical solutions for the sliding indentation problem. The solution expressions, abetted by calculations for zinc, show the role of frictional heating on the half-space surface. The effects of friction and sliding speed on contact zone size and location and average contact zone temperature are also studied. The analysis is aided by factoring procedures that simplify the complicated forms that arise in anisotropic elasticity. A scheme that renders expressions for roots of certain irrational functions analytic to within a single quadrature also plays a role.  相似文献

In this work a contact problem for a transversely isotropic half-space indented by a rigid sphere is considered. The axis of symmetry of the half-space is orthogonal to the axis of the applied contact load, which makes the problem fully three-dimensional. An exact solution to this contact problem is constructed. Stresses and strains are obtained in the form of contour integrals in the complex plane with explicitly determined dimensionless integrands. As an illustrative application of the constructed solution, failure beneath the indenter in a unidirectional composite is analyzed.  相似文献

Summary Utilizing the general solution of transversely isotropic piezoelectricity, the paper analyzes the problem of an inclined rigid circular flat punch indenting a transversely isotropic piezoelectric half-space. The potential theory method is employed and generalized to take into account the effect of the electric field in piezoelectric materials. Assuming that the punch is maintained at a constant electric potential, exact expressions for the elastoelectric field are derived in terms of elementary functions. It is noted that the solution corresponding to a flat circular punch centrally loaded by a concentrated force can be obtained as a special case.

The idea of generalized images, first used by the author for the case of crack problems, is applied here to solve a contact problem for n transversely isotropic elastic layers, with smooth interfaces, resting on a smooth elastic half-space, made of a different transversely isotropic material. A rigid punch of arbitrary shape is pressed against the top layer’s free surface. The governing integral equation is derived for the case of two layers; it is mathematically equivalent to that of an electrostatic problem of an infinite row of coaxial charged disks in the shape of the domain of contact. This result is then generalized for an arbitrary number of layers. 相似文献

Green’s functions of a transversely isotropic half-space overlaid by a thin coating layer are analytically obtained. The surface coating is modeled by a Kirchhoff thin plate perfectly bonded to the half-space. With the aid of superposition technique and employing appropriate displacement potential functions, the Green’s functions are expressed in two parts; (i) a closed-form part corresponding to the transversely isotropic half-space with surface kinematic constraints, and (ii) a numerically evaluated part reflecting the interaction between the half-space and the plate in the form of semi-infinite integrals. Some limiting cases of the problem such as surface-stiffened isotropic half-space, Boussinesq and Cerruti loadings, and extremely flexible and rigid plates are also studied. For the classical Cerruti problem in transversely isotropic materials, the effects of incompressibility are highlighted. Numerical results are provided to show the effects of material anisotropy, relative stiffness factor, and load buried depth. The obtained Green’s functions play a key role in treating further mixed-boundary-value problems in surface stiffened transversely isotropic half-spaces.  相似文献

With the aid of a method of displacement potentials, an efficient and accurate analytical derivation of the three-dimensional dynamic Green’s functions for a transversely isotropic multilayered half-space is presented. Constituted by proper algebraic factorizations, a set of generalized transmission–reflection matrices and internal source fields that are free of any numerically unstable exponential terms are proposed for effective computations of the potential solution. Three-dimensional point-load Green’s functions for stresses and displacements are given, for the first time, in the complex-plane line-integral representations. The present formulations and solutions are analytically in exact agreement with the existing solutions given by Pak and Guzina (2002) for the isotropic case. For the numerical computation of the integrals, a robust and effective methodology which gives the necessary account of the presence of singularities including branch points and poles on the path of integration is laid out. A comparison with the existing numerical solutions for multilayered isotropic half-space is made to confirm the accuracy of the numerical solutions.  相似文献

By virtue of a complete set of displacement potential functions and Hankel transform, the analytical expressions of Green’s function of an exponentially graded elastic transversely isotropic half-space is presented. The given solution is analytically in exact agreement with the existing solution for a homogeneous transversely isotropic half-space. Employing a robust asymptotic decomposition technique, the Green’s function is decomposed to the closed-form Green’s function corresponding to the homogeneous transversely isotropic half-space and grading term with strong decaying integrands. This representation is very useful for numerical methods which are based on boundary-integral formulations such as boundary-element method since the numerically evaluated part is not responsible for the singularity. The high accuracy of the proposed numerical scheme is confirmed by some numerical examples.  相似文献

Rolling without slip by a rigid cylinder on a transversely isotropic, coupled thermoelastic half-space at constant subcritical speed is studied. The cylinder is of infinite length, surface heat convection is neglected, and a dynamic steady state of plane strain is treated. The unmixed problem of traction applied to a translating surface strip is addressed first. A robust asymptotic form of the exact transform solution, valid when Fourier heat conduction dominates any thermal relaxation effect, is extracted, and inverted analytically. Use of material characterization and identification of parameters that vanish in the isotropic limit or are invariant under an isothermal–thermoelastic transformation result in compact full-field solutions. These expressions are used to construct analytical solutions that satisfy the mixed boundary value problem and auxiliary conditions of rolling contact. For the hexagonal material zinc, calculations are made for contact zone width and temperature increases near onset of zone yield. This paper exactly analyzes the problem of a rigid sphere indenting a transversely isotropic piezoelectric half-space. The potential theory method is employed and generalized to include the piezoelectric effect. By using the previous results of elasticity, an exact solution is derived. It is found that all the elastoelectric variables can be expressed in terms of elementary functions. The paper presents a three-dimensional solution to the equilibrium equations for linear elastic transversely isotropic inhomogeneous media. We assume that the material has constant Poisson’s ratios, and its Young’s and shear moduli have the same functional form of dependence on the co-ordinate normal to the plane of isotropy. We show, apparently for the first time, that stresses and displacements in such an inhomogeneous transversely isotropic elastic solid can be represented in terms of two displacement functions which satisfy the second- and fourth-order partial differential equations. We examine and discuss key aspects of the new representation; they include the relationship between the new displacement functions and Plevako’s solution for isotropic inhomogeneous material with constant Poisson’s ratio as well as the application of the new representation to some important classes of three-dimensional elasticity problems. As an example, the displacement function is derived that can be used to determine stresses and displacements in an inhomogeneous transversely isotropic half-space which is subjected to a concentrated force normal to a free surface and applied at the origin (Boussinesq’s problem).  相似文献

Summary  An exact, three-dimensional analysis is developed for a penny-shaped crack in an infinite transversely isotropic piezoelectric medium. The crack is assumed to be parallel to the plane of isotropy, with its faces subjected to a couple of concentrated normal forces and a couple of point electric charges that are antisymmetric with respect to the crack plane. The fundamental solution of a concentrated force and a point charge acting on the surface of a piezoelectric half-space is employed to derive the integral equations for the general boundary value problem. For the above antisymmetric crack problem, complete expressions for the elastoelectric field are obtained. A numerical calculation is finally performed to show the piezoelectric effect in piezoelectric materials. It is noted here that the present analysis is an extension of Fabrikant's theory for elasticity. Received 30 August 1999; accepted for publication 1 March 2000  相似文献

The elastic displacement in an isotropic elastic half-space with free surface is calculated for a point tensor force which may arise from the seismic moment of seismic sources concentrated at an inner point of the half-space. The starting point of the calculation is the decomposition of the displacement by means of the Helmholtz potentials and a simplified version of the Grodskii-Neuber-Papkovitch procedure. The calculations are carried out by using generalized Poisson equations and in-plane Fourier transforms, which are convenient for treating boundary conditions. As a general result we compute the displacement in the isotropic elastic half-space with free surface caused by point forces with arbitrary structure and orientation, localized either beneath the surface (generalized Mindlin problem) or on the surface (generalized Boussinesq-Cerruti problems). The inverse Fourier transforms are carried out by means of Sommerfeld-type integrals. For forces buried in the half-space explicit results are given for the surface displacement, which may exhibit finite values at the origin, or at distances on the surface of the order of the depth of the source. The problem presented here may be viewed as an addition to the well-known static problems of elastic equilibrium of a half-space under the action of concentrated loads. The application of the method to similar problems and another approach to the starting point of the general solution are discussed.  相似文献

A linear elastic full-space composed of an upper half-space, a lower half-space and a layer of three different transversely isotropic materials under an internal load is considered. The axes of symmetry of the different regions are assumed to be normal to the planar interfaces of the regions and are thus parallel. An arbitrary load in the frequency domain is allowed on a finite patch located at the interface of the upper half-space and the adjacent layer. By means of the complete displacement potentials, the displacements and stresses in the three regions are determined in Fourier–Hankel space in the form of line integrals. The solution can be degenerated to the solution for (i) a full-space under an arbitrary buried load, (ii) a half-space contain a layer bonded to the top of it under an arbitrary surface force, (iii) a half-space under an arbitrary surface load, (iv) a two layer half-space under an arbitrary force applied at the interface of two regions, (v) a half-space under an arbitrary buried force, (vi) a layer of finite thickness fixed at the bottom and under an arbitrary surface load, and (vii) a bi-material full-space under an arbitrary load at the interface of two materials. Examples of the displacements and stresses are obtained numerically and compared to existing solutions.  相似文献

Summary A numerical technique is proposed to obtain the solution for the transient torsional wave propagation in a transversely isotropic cylinder when a torque is suddenly applied to its end surface. The dynamic behavior in the vicinity of the impact end of the transversely isotropic cylinder is studied. The stability and convergence of the present numerical technique and the validity of the numerical solution are examined.  相似文献

The Boussinesq problem, that is, determining the deformation in a hyperelastic half-space due to a point force normal to the boundary, is an important problem of engineering, geomechanics, and other fields to which elasticity theory is often applied. While linear solutions produce useful Greens functions, they also predict infinite displacements and other physically inconsistent results nearby and at the point of application of the load where the most critical and interesting material behavior occurs. To illuminate the deformation due to such a load in the region of interest, asymptotic analysis of the nonlinear Boussinesq problem has been considered in the context of isotropic hyperelasticity. Studies considering transversely isotropic materials have also been broadly used in the linear theory, but have not been treated within the nonlinear framework. In this paper we extend the nonlinearly elastic isotropic analysis to transverse isotropy, producing a more general theory which also better encompasses applications involving layered media. The governing equations for nonlinearly elastic, transversely isotropic solids are derived, conservation laws of elastostatics are invoked, asymptotic forms of the deformation solutions are hypothesized, and the differential equations governing deformation near the point load are determined. The analysis also develops sequences of simple tests to determine if a transversely isotropic material can possibly sustain a finite deflection under the point load. The results are applied to a variety of transversely isotropic materials, and the effects of the anisotropy considered is demonstrated by comparison of the resulting deformation with similar asymptotic solutions in the isotropic theory.
