These days, a lot of effort is being put in making electronic devices lighter and compacter, as the electronics market is rapidly expanding with all sorts of portable devices for home and everyday use. In this paper, a technology for embedding thin chips in flexible substrates is proposed that could be the next step for further reducing weight, while at the same time enhancing mechanical flexibility of the electronic circuitry. All stages in the technology's development cycle are discussed: from technology flow, test design and actual fabrication, to process optimization and characterization of the results. An outlook on the following steps of this technology is discussed in the conclusion.   相似文献

Integrated electronics promises to increase both the rate of change within the electronics industry and the pervasiveness of electronics as a whole, making it possible to remove very fundamental and interrelated limitations to applying the knowledge and tools of electronics, the most harassing of which have been reliability, cost, complexity, and that imposed by the specialized character of and relative sophistication of the science, engineering, and art of electronics. Evaluating the history, current status and the likely future of integrated electronics, it seems now highly probable that this new technology may introduce a terminal phase in which electronics will pervade all segments of our society to which it has pertinence. Basic requirements to ensure this appear to be 1) A relatively concentrated, highly-automated industrial complex to supply integrated circuitry and closely related compatible discrete componentry and 2) Establishment by this integrated-circuits industry of a common language for the input and output parameters which specifies its products, ultimately making it possible for members of other disciplines and professions to utilize, without themselves being electronics specialists, the knowledge, tools, and skills of electronics for the benefit of all of society.  相似文献

At a workshop held on the Aeolian Islands in Sicily during May 2004 a group of academic and industry engineers from all over the world discussed the medium-and long-term future of power electronics and its applications in specific areas. The following main issues were identified and discussed. - The demand is not for power electronic solutions but for system integration of electronic power processing. A more multidisciplinary approach is needed. - We will witness a proliferation of energy storage in systems. The technology is in place and the improvement in system performance makes it worthwhile. - A large penetration of power electronics into power systems will happen within the next 25-30 years. The main transmission grid will not be affected. The power electronics development will be in distributed generation and in the loads. - The success of the integrated starter/generator, hybrid or electric cars depends on political decisions more than on technological advances. However, the success of a recent Japanese hybrid car and the cost of oil could trigger the critical momentum for large-scale use of power electronics in automotive applications. - We are moving toward standardized power supply building blocks for computers and other applications. The main push is for lower cost, and production technology becomes the important issue. - Demands for improved performance in a diversity of applications will stimulate R&D in power electronics in future. Intelligent control and energy management will come easily. Thermal and passive component integration is equally important and will require attention.  相似文献

This paper presents a review of the state of the art of power electronics technology in both industrial and traction drive application. Key development trends include the dominance of AC adjustable-speed drives in new applications, with the squirrel-cage induction machine as the preferred machine in most cases. Particularly striking has been the rapid ascendance of the insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) as the predominant power switch in both industrial and traction applications ranging from fractional kilowatts to multimegawatts. Key current issues such as industrial drive input power quality and the effects of fast IGBT switching transients on the machines and electromagnetic interference (EMI) production are reviewed. Developments in electric traction for both rail and road vehicles are discussed, including the increasing modularity of new traction inverters in all sizes and the market introduction of new hybrid vehicles using advanced power electronics. The paper concludes with a discussion of expected future trends in power electronics technology that will likely expand the markets for industrial and traction drives during coming years  相似文献

Mass-produced organic electronics for internet-of-things, point of care diagnostics, smart labels and more suggest development of a “green” and recyclable electronics. One of the greatest challenges in achieving such a technology platform is to establish low-cost batteries that are metal-free. Here, we demonstrate a thin all polymer-air battery where the anode and cathode are based on the conducting polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT). Polyethyleneimine (PEI) is combined with the PEDOT electrode to ensure air stability of its neutral or rather “low oxidized” form at the anode, while PEDOT is in its oxidized state at the cathode. The difference in the oxidation level between the two PEDOT electrodes produces an open circuit voltage of about 0.5 V. Upon discharge, PEI is consumed at the PEDOT anode, while O2 reacts with the PEDOT cathode; thus demonstrating the first all-polymer-air battery.  相似文献

Assemblies of power semiconductor switches and their associated drive circuits are at present available in modules. Upward into the multi-kilowatt range, mixed mode module construction is used. This incorporates monolithic, hybrid, surface mount, and wirebond technology. However, a close examination of the applications in motor drives and power supplies indicates that there has been no dramatic volume reduction of the subsystem. The power semiconductor modules have shrunk the power switching part of the converter, but the bulk of the subsystem volume still comprises the associated control, sensing, electromagnetic power passives (inductors, transformers, capacitors) and interconnects. This paper addresses the improvement of power processing technology through advanced integration of power electronics. The goal of a subsystem in a module necessitates this advanced integration, incorporating active switching stages, electromagnetic interference (EMI) filters, and electromagnetic power passives into modules by integration technology. The central philosophy of the technology development research in the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center for Power Electronic Systems is to advance the state of the art by providing the concept of integrated power electronics modules (IPEMs) for all these functions. The technology underpinning such an IPEM approach is discussed.  相似文献

Bioresorbable electronics is a new type of electronics technology that can potentially lead to biodegradable and dissolvable electronic devices to replace current built-to-last circuits predominantly used in implantable devices and consumer electronics.Such devices dissolve in an aqueous environment in time periods from seconds to months,and generate biological safe products.This paper reviews materials,fabrication techniques,and applications of bioresorbable electronics,and aims to inspire more revolutionary bioresorbable systems that can generate broader social and economic impact.Existing challenges and potential solutions in developing bioresorbable electronics have also been presented to arouse more joint research efforts in this field to build systematic technology framework.  相似文献

推扫式遥感仪器可以采用多个镜头进行视场合成以提高仪器的总视场.视场合成技术涉及光学、机械、电子学系统技术.电子学系统需要完成多镜头数据的采集、融合及其他处理.在光谱仪地面测试数据采集系统中,每个镜头对应一个独立的数据采集与处理模块.控制模块同步各子模块的数据采集,并通过FIFO接口获取各子模块数据,然后通过PCI数据采集卡发送到PC机中.所有模块插在一个底板中,底板完成模块间的连接.介绍了多镜头下数据采集系统的设计与实现.  相似文献

Dissipationless and scattering-free spin-based terahertz electronics is the futuristic technology for energy-efficient information processing. Femtosecond light pulse provides an ideal pathway for exciting the ferromagnet (FM) out-of-equilibrium, causing ultrafast demagnetization and superdiffusive spin transport at sub-picosecond timescale, giving rise to transient terahertz radiation. Concomitantly, light pulses also deposit thermal energy at short timescales, suggesting the possibility of abrupt change in magnetic anisotropy of the FM that could cause ultrafast photo-thermal switching (PTS) of terahertz spin currents. Here, a single light pulse induced PTS of the terahertz spin current manifested through the phase reversal of the emitted terahertz photons is demonstrated. The switching of the transient spin current is due to the reversal of the magnetization state across the energy barrier of the FM layer. This demonstration opens a new paradigm for on-chip spintronic devices enabling ultralow-power hybrid electronics and photonics fueled by the interplay of charge, spin, thermal, and optical signals.  相似文献

A micromachined vacuum triode using a carbon nanotube cold cathode   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A fully integrated on-chip vacuum microtriode using carbon nanotubes as field emitters was constructed laterally on a silicon surface using microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) design and fabrication principles. Each electrode in the triode was made of a hinged polycrystalline silicon panel that could be rotated and locked into an upright position. The device was operated at a current density as high as 16 A/cm/sup 2/. Although the transconductance was measured only at 1.3 /spl mu/S, the dc output power delivered at the anode was almost 40 /spl times/ more than the power lost at the grid electrode. The technique combines high-performance nano-materials with mature solid-state fabrication technology to produce miniaturized power-amplifying vacuum devices in an on-chip form, which could potentially offer a route of integrating vacuum and solid-state electronics and open up new applications for "old-fashioned" vacuum tubes.  相似文献

Different approaches to fabricate low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin film transistors (TFTs) on polymer substrates are reviewed and the two main routes are discussed: (1) standard fabrication of LTPS TFTs on glass substrates followed by a transfer process of the devices on the polymeric substrate; (2) direct fabrication of the devices on the polymeric substrate. Among the different techniques we have described in more detail the process we have recently developed for the fabrication of LTPS TFTs directly on ultra-thin polyimide (PI) substrate. LTPS TFT technology is particularly suited for high performance flexible electronics applications, due to the excellent device characteristics, good electrical stability and CMOS technology. Flexible display application remains the most attractive application for LTPS technology, especially for AMOLED displays, where device stability and the possibility to integrate the driving circuits make LTPS technology superior to all the other competitive TFT technologies. Among the other applications, particularly promising is also the application to flexible smart sensors, where integration of a front-end electronics is essential. Some examples of flexible gas sensors and pressure sensors, integrated with simple readout electronics based on LTPS TFTs and fabricated on ultra-thin PI substrate, are presented.  相似文献
