We consider the effect of the wind and the dissipation on the nonlinear stages of the modulational instability. By applying a suitable transformation, we map the forced/damped nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation into the standard NLS with constant coefficients. The transformation is valid as long as |Γt|?1, with Γ the growth/damping rate of the waves due to the wind/dissipation. Approximate rogue wave solutions of the equation are presented and discussed. The results shed some lights on the effects of wind and dissipation on the formation of rogue waves. 相似文献

The ability to unveil growing rogue waves in the ocean is essential for safe marine travel in stormy conditions. This vital problem has not been adequately addressed so far. We show that the specific triangular spectra of rogue waves can be detected at early stages of their development in a chaotic wave field. Continuously measuring the spectra of various parts of the wave field allows us to find a rogue wave before the dangerous peak appears. This possibility of early detection is a necessary part of a rogue wave early-warning system. 相似文献

Dust-acoustic (DA) waves (DAWs) and their modulational instability (MI) have been investigated theoretically in a plasma system consisting of inertial opposite polarity (positively and negatively) warm adiabatic charged dust grains as well as inertialess non-extensive distributed electrons and non-thermal ions. A nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) is derived by using the reductive perturbation method. It has been observed from the analysis of NLSE that the modulationally stable solitary DAWs give rise to the existence of dark envelope solitons, and that the modulationally unstable solitary DAWs give rise to the existence of bright envelope solitons or rogue structures. It is also observed for the fast mode of DAWs that the basic features (viz. stability of the DAWs, MI, growth rate, amplitude, and width of the DA rogue waves, etc.) are significantly modified by the related plasma parameters (viz. dust masses, dust charge state, non-extensive parameter q, and non-thermal parameter α). The results of our present investigation might be useful for understanding different nonlinear electrostatic phenomena in both space (viz. ionosphere and mesosphere) and laboratory plasmas (viz. high intensity laser irradiation and hot cathode discharge). 相似文献

In addition to deep-water rogue waves which develop from the modulation instability of an optical CW, wave propagation in optical fibers may also produce shallow water rogue waves. These extreme wave events are generated in the modulationally stable normal dispersion regime. A suitable phase or frequency modulation of a CW laser leads to chirp-free and flat-top pulses or flaticons which exhibit a stable self-similar evolution. Upon collision, flaticons at different carrier frequencies, which may also occur in wavelength division multiplexed transmission systems, merge into a single, high-intensity, temporally and spatially localized rogue pulse. 相似文献

In this Letter, we present an analytical study of a high-order acoustic wave equation in one dimension, and reformulate a previously given equation in terms of an expansion of the acoustic Mach number. We search for non-trivial traveling wave solutions to this equation, and also discuss the accuracy of acoustic wave equations in terms of the range of Mach numbers for which they are valid. 相似文献

Plasmas are the main constituent of the Universe and the cause of a vast variety of astrophysical, space and terrestrial phenomena. The inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation is hereby investigated, which describes the propagation of an electron plasma wave packet with a large wavelength and small amplitude in a medium with a parabolic density and constant interactional damping. By virtue of the double Wronskian identities, the equation is proved to possess the double-Wronskian soliton solutions. Analytic one- and two-soliton solutions are discussed. Amplitude and velocity of the soliton are related to the damping coefficient. Asymptotic analysis is applied for us to investigate the interaction between the two solitons. Overtaking interaction, head-on interaction and bound state of the two solitons are given. From the non-zero potential Lax pair, the first- and second-order rogue-wave solutions are constructed via a generalized Darboux transformation, and influence of the linear and parabolic density profiles on the background density and amplitude of the rogue wave is discussed. 相似文献

The generalized Darboux transformation is applied to obtain Nth-order rogue wave solution of nonlinear coupled dispersionless evolution equations (NLCDEE). In particular, the interesting structures for these solutions from first to third order rogue wave are shown. 相似文献

Exact solutions, including the periodic travelling and non-travelling wave solutions, are presented for the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation with imaginary mass. Some arbitrary functions are permitted in the periodic non-travelling wave solutions, which contribute to various high dimensional nonlinear structures. 相似文献

The intriguing dark and composite rogue wave dynamics in a coupled Hirota system are unveiled, based on the exact explicit rational solutions obtained under the assumption of equal background height. It is found that a dark rogue wave state would occur as a result of the strong coupling between two field components with large wavenumber difference, and there would appear plenty of composite structures that are attributed to the specific wavenumber difference and the free choice of three independent structural parameters. The coexistence of different fundamental rogue waves in such a coupled system is also demonstrated. 相似文献

In this Letter, the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger (GNLS) equation is investigated by Darboux matrix method. A generalized Darboux transformation (DT) of the GNLS equation is constructed with the help of the gauge transformation for an Ablowitz–Kaup–Newell–Segur (AKNS) type GNLS spectral problem, from which a unified formula of Nth-order rogue wave solution to the GNLS equation is given. In particular, the first and second-order rogue wave solutions to the GNLS equation are explicitly illustrated through some figures. 相似文献

The methodology developed provides for a systematic way to find an infinite number of the novel stable bright and dark "soliton islands" in a "sea of solitary waves" of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation model with varying dispersion, nonlinearity, and gain or absorption. It is shown that solitons exist only under certain conditions and the parameter functions describing dispersion, nonlinearity, and gain or absorption inhomogeneities cannot be chosen independently. Fundamental soliton management regimes are discovered. 相似文献

In this Letter, we discuss the electron acoustic (EA) waves in plasmas, which consist of nonthermal hot electrons featuring the Tsallis distribution, and obtain the corresponding governing equation, that is, a nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation. By means of Modulation Instability (MI) analysis of the EA waves, it is found that both electron acoustic solitary wave and rogue wave can exist in such plasmas. Basing on the Darboux transformation method, we derive the analytical expressions of nonlinear solutions of NLS equations, such as single/double solitary wave solutions and single/double rogue wave solutions. The existential regions and amplitude of solitary wave solutions and the rogue wave solutions are influenced by the nonextensive parameter q and nonthermal parameter α. Moreover, the interaction of solitary wave and how to postpone the excitation of rogue wave are also studied. 相似文献

We provide some general physical insights into the emergence of rogue wave events from optical turbulence by analyzing the long term evolution of the field. Depending on the amount of incoherence in the system (i.e., Hamiltonian), we identify three turbulent regimes that lead to the emergence of specific rogue wave events: (i) persistent and coherent rogue quasi-solitons, (ii) intermittent-like rogue quasi-solitons that appear and disappear erratically, and (iii) sporadic rogue waves events that emerge from turbulent fluctuations as bursts of light or intense flashes. 相似文献

A method to determine parameters governing periodic Riemann theta function rogue-wave solutions to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation is presented. A map of parameter values leading to candidate solutions is developed. In addition to candidate solutions, an overview of qualitative aspects of the solution space can be gained from this map. Based on these findings, several new extreme wave solutions are presented. Although the computations required to determine the map are quite demanding, it is shown that these computations can be efficiently accelerated with a parallel computing architecture. A general purpose computing on a graphics processor unit (GPGPU) implementation yielded a 400× acceleration over a single threaded high level implementation. This acceleration enabled exploration and examination of the solution space, which otherwise would not have been possible. In addition, the solution methodology presented here can be extended to explore other classes of solutions. 相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the dimensional nonlinear Rossby waves under non-traditional approximation. Using the asymptotic methods of multiple scales and weak nonlinear perturbation expansions, we derive a new modified Zakharov–Kuznetsov equation from the barotropic potential vorticity equation with the complete Coriolis parameter, the topography and the dissipation. Based on the new auxiliary equation method, new exact solutions of the new mZK equation are obtained when the dissipation is absent. However, the new auxiliary equation method fails to solve the new mZK equation with the dissipative term. Therefore, the weak nonlinear method and the homotopy perturbation method are developed to solve the obtained new mZK equation. Through numerical simulations, the results show the effects of different parameters on Rossby waves. 相似文献

We construct symmetry preserving and symmetry broken N-bright, dark and antidark soliton solutions of a nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equation. To obtain these solutions, we use appropriate eigenfunctions in Darboux transformation (DT) method. We present explicit one and two bright soliton solutions and show that they exhibit stable structures only when we combine the field and parity transformed complex conjugate field. Further, we derive two dark/antidark soliton solution with the help of DT method. Unlike the bright soliton case, dark/antidark soliton solution exhibits stable structure for the field and the parity transformed conjugate field separately. In the dark/antidark soliton solution case we observe a contrasting behaviour between the envelope of the field and parity transformed complex conjugate envelope of the field. For a particular parametric choice, we get dark (antidark) soliton for the field while the parity transformed complex conjugate field exhibits antidark (dark) soliton. Due to this surprising result, both the field and PT transformed complex conjugate field exhibit sixteen different combinations of collision scenario. We classify the parametric regions of dark and antidark solitons in both the field and parity transformed complex conjugate field by carrying out relevant asymptotic analysis. Further we present 2N-dark/antidark soliton solution formula and demonstrate that this solution may have combinations of collisions. 相似文献

We investigate the effects of dissipation on the development of rogue waves and downshifting by adding nonlinear and linear damping terms to the one-dimensional Dysthe equation. Significantly, rogue waves do not develop after the downshifting becomes permanent. Thus in our experiments permanent downshifting serves as an indicator that damping is sufficient to prevent the further development of rogue waves. Using the inverse spectral theory of the NLS equation, simulations of the damped Dysthe equation for sea states characterized by JONSWAP spectrum consistently show that rogue wave events are well-predicted by proximity to homoclinic data, as measured by the spectral splitting distance δ. The cut off distance δcutoff decreases as the strength of the damping increases, indicating that for stronger damping the JONSWAP initial data must be closer to homoclinic data for rogue waves to occur. 相似文献

Exact rogue wave solutions of the long wave–short wave resonance equation are obtained via Darboux transformations. Compared to the real long-wave field which always features a single hump structure, the short-wave field can be manifested as bright rogue wave, intermediate rogue wave, or dark rogue wave, depending on the subtle nonlinearity driven by the long-wave field. 相似文献

It is shown that to the lowest order of perturbation, the system of equations can be reduced to modified Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation. 相似文献

In this Letter we investigate the propagation of coupled nonlinear Alfven-spin and helicon-spin waves in a composite medium having the properties of both magnetic and semiconducting materials. We arrive at the nonlinear evolution equations for these coupled waves using the reductive perturbation method for which we obtain soliton solutions. We also discuss the limiting cases for the two materials separately. 相似文献
