Objectives: This study was aimed to investigate the prevalence of maxillary lateral incisor agenesis and associated skeletal characteristics in an orthodontic patient population.

Materials and methods: The records of the 1066 patients seeking orthodontic treatment were screened for maxillary lateral incisor agenesis (MLIA). The following data were recorded for each subject: age; gender; unilateral or bilateral agenesis of MLI and side. The lateral cephalogram of each subject with MLIA was digitally traced. The data were compared to age-matched control orthodontic patients with skeletal Class I.

Results: The prevalence of maxillary lateral incisor agenesis was 4.9% (52 patients) in which 63.5% were females. There was a significant difference between MLIA patients and controls in sagittal relationships (ANB, Wits, AB plane, angle of convexity and Co-A/Co-Gn differential analyses) p?Conclusions: Patients with maxillary lateral incisor agenesis showed a significant tendency for skeletal Class III compared with the Class I control. This could be attributed to maxillary hypoplasia/retrognathia.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Dens Invaginatus (DI), commonly known as dens in dente, is a developmental malformation of tooth that most commonly affects permanent maxillary lateral incisor teeth. Deciduous teeth are infrequently affected. Presence of DI in mandibular permanent teeth is extremely rare. Further, the presence of DI bilaterally in the maxillary lateral incisors of the same patient is even more unusual. METHODS: In this article, an unusual case of DI affecting a mandibular lateral incisor tooth is described. This malformation was uncovered after a full mouth radiographic examination when the patient presented for dental treatment unrelated to this finding. In addition, the various radiographic appearances of DI as they present within the maxillary and mandibular teeth are described. Essential clinical considerations and treatment options are presented. A review of the pertinent literature is undertaken and a table summarizing previous published findings of mandibular DI is presented. RESULTS: A review of the literature indicates that DI in mandibular teeth is extremely rare with only 10 other cases involving 13 teeth reported previously. CONCLUSIONS: Although this is an extremely rare case, DI is an anomaly that should be familiar to all practising dentists due to the clinical implications of potential sequelae of pulpal involvement.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: The present study aimed at evaluating the marginal bone resorption and the peri-implant tissue conditions around Narrow-Neck ITI implants in the implant-prosthetic treatment of the agenesis of maxillary lateral incisors. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Thirty patients affected by monolateral or bilateral agenesis of the maxillary lateral incisors were selected. Thirty-four ITI-SLA Narrow Neck implants were inserted and loaded about 4 months after the surgical procedure. The final restorations were realized using Aureo Galvan Crowns veneered with feldspathic ceramics. The follow-up period ranged from 24 to 39 months. Both marginal bone resorption and soft tissue quality were evaluated. The data were statistically analysed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) for repeated measures, one-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test (P=0.05). RESULTS: During the 24-39-month follow-up period, no implant showed either pain and sensitivity or mobility. After 39 months of functional loading, a cumulative survival rate of 97.06% and a cumulative success rate of 94.12% were calculated. CONCLUSIONS: In case of maxillary lateral incisor agenesis, the implant-prosthetic approach has proved to be a reliable and predictable treatment for both re-establishment of function and aesthetics. Satisfactory values of marginal bone resorption over time and optimal conditions of peri-implant tissue around Narrow-Neck ITI implants were found.  相似文献

CASE REPORT: A case of an unusual maxillary lateral incisor with three root canals is presented. The patient presented with localized swelling and a sinus tract. Because of its abnormal anatomical configuration, the tooth presented diagnostic and procedural difficulties. Conventional root canal treatment was performed successfully.  相似文献

Congenital maxillary lateral incisor agenesis (MLIA) is one of the most common subtypes of dental agenesis. Because little is known with regard to the aetiology of this anomaly, the aim of the study was to determine the contribution of nucleotide variants in wingless‐type MMTV integration site family, member 10A (WNT10A), msh homeobox 1 (MSX1), and paired box 9 (PAX9) to the risk of MLIA in a Polish population. Coding regions of the selected genes were analysed by direct sequencing in a group of 20 individuals with unilateral and bilateral MLIA, associated or not with other dental anomalies. The frequencies of the identified nucleotide variants were assessed in an additional cohort of patients with isolated dental agenesis (n = 147) and in 178 controls. Mutation screening showed four non‐synonymous substitutions located in the highly conserved coding sequence of WNT10A in five (25%) of the 20 patients. Analysis of genotyping results revealed that three of these variants – p.Arg113Cys, p.Phe228Ile, and the newly identified p.Arg171Leu – may represent aetiological mutations underlying MLIA with associated dental anomalies. No mutations that were potentially aetiologic were identified in MSX1 and PAX9. In conclusion, this is the first report implicating coding variants in the WNT10A gene in the aetiology of MLIA. These results will require further confirmation using larger‐scale studies.  相似文献

目的:评价一种简单的转移侧方骱关系的方法在尖牙保护He患者的上颌尖牙金属烤瓷修复中的应用效果。方法:选择尖牙保护He患者187例需要进行金属烤瓷修复的上颌尖牙,采用光固化复合树脂延长邻牙的颊尖或切端,变尖牙保护He为组牙功能He。结果:99.47%被修复尖牙的侧方He关系,基本恢复到修复前状况,患者无不适感觉。结论:采用光固化复合树脂延长邻牙牙尖的方法记录和转移侧方He关系,有利于恢复七颌尖牙修复前的He情况,可取得满意的临床效果。  相似文献

Missed canals can be a common cause of persistent intraradicular infection and post-treatment apical periodontitis. This article reports on a rare case of a maxillary lateral incisor with two roots exhibiting symptomatic post-treatment apical periodontitis regardless of a radiographically adequate root canal treatment. The second root, which was only revealed by cone-beam computed tomography, had passed unnoticed during the first treatment, and its missed canal was the most likely cause of symptoms and treatment failure. Reintervention including the proper management of the extra root canal and retreatment of the main canal resulted in the resolution of symptoms and periradicular tissue healing. This case report reinforces the need for three-dimensional radiographic diagnosis to search for the cause of post-treatment disease and guide the decision-making process for proper management.  相似文献

IntroductionTreatment of a case with impacted canines is complex and numerous options are available ranging from disimpaction to forced eruption.ObjectiveThe objective of this case report was to describe the treatment of a 19-year-old male, with a skeletal Class II, dental Class II Division 1 malocclusion, prognathic maxilla, proclined maxillary incisors, with missing left maxillary central incisor and bilateral mandibular canine impaction.MethodologyThe orthodontic treatment plan included forced eruption of the impacted canines and conversion of maxillary left lateral incisor to central incisor.ConclusionProper diagnosis and implementation of orthodontic biomechanics can minimize the amount of prosthetic and surgical intervention needed in the management of transmigrated canine and smile designing.  相似文献
