Differential evolution (DE) is one simple and effective evolutionary algorithm (EA) for global optimization. In this paper, three modified versions of the DE to improve its performance, to repair its defect in accurate converging to individual optimal point and to compensate the limited amount of search moves of original DE are proposed. In the first modified version called bidirectional differential evolution (BDE), to generate a new trial point, is used from the bidirectional optimization concept, and in the second modified version called shuffled differential evolution (SDE), population such as shuffled frog leaping (SFL) algorithm is divided in to several memeplexes and each memeplex is improved by the DE algorithm. Finally, in the third modified version of DE called shuffled bidirectional differential evolution (SBDE) to improve each memeplex is used from the proposed BDE algorithm. Three proposed modified versions are applied on two types of DE and six obtained algorithms are compared with original DE and SFL algorithms. Experiments on continuous benchmark functions and non-parametric analysis of obtained results demonstrate that applying bidirectional concept only improves one type of the DE. But the SDE and the SBDE have a better success rate and higher solution precision than original DE and SFL, whereas those are more time consuming on some functions. In a later part of the comparative experiments, a comparison of the proposed algorithms with some modern DE and the other EAs reported in the literature confirms a better or at least comparable performance of our proposed algorithms.  相似文献

This paper presents the design and application of an efficient hybrid heuristic search method to solve the practical economic dispatch problem considering many nonlinear characteristics of power generators, and their operational constraints, such as transmission losses, valve-point effects, multi-fuel options, prohibited operating zones, ramp rate limits and spinning reserve. These practical operation constraints which can usually be found at the same time in realistic power system operations make the economic load dispatch problem a nonsmooth optimization problem having complex and nonconvex features with heavy equality and inequality constraints. The proposed approach combines in the most effective way the properties of two of the most popular evolutionary optimization techniques now in use for power system optimization, the Differential Evolution (DE) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms. To improve the global optimization property of DE, the PSO procedure is integrated as additional mutation operator. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm (termed DEPSO) is demonstrated by solving four kinds of ELD problems with nonsmooth and nonconvex solution spaces. The comparative results with some of the most recently published methods confirm the effectiveness of the proposed strategy to find accurate and feasible optimal solutions for practical ELD problems.  相似文献

Optimization of directional over-current relay (DOCR) settings is an important problem in electrical engineering. The optimization model of the problem turns out to be non-linear and highly constrained in which two settings namely time dial setting (TDS) and plug setting (PS) of each relay are considered as decision variables; the sum of the operating times of all the primary relays, which are expected to operate in order to clear the faults of their corresponding zones, is considered as an objective function. In the present study, three models are considered namely IEEE 3-bus model, IEEE 4-bus model and IEEE 6-bus model. To solve the problem, we have applied five newly developed versions of differential evolution (DE) called modified DE versions (MDE1, MDE2, MDE3, MDE4, and MDE5). The results are compared with the classical DE algorithm and with five more algorithms available in the literature; the numerical results show that the modified DE algorithms outperforms or perform at par with the other algorithms.  相似文献

As growing the demand for electrical energy, economic load dispatch (ELD) has become one of the most important and complex issues in the operation of power systems. Owing to the confined optimum convergence and the additional constraints, it does not proficient to crack such problems by the predictable optimization algorithms. In this paper, a self-adaptable differential evolution algorithm integrating with multiple mutation strategies (ADE-MMS) is proposed for the ELD problems. In order to improve the exploration and exploitation capabilities of the original differential evolution algorithm (DE), ADE-MMS has three extensions to DE. Firstly, four types of advanced vectors generated by the different methods are employed in the mutation strategies. Secondly, a self-adaptable selection mechanism for the multiple mutation strategies is implemented in the iterations. Thirdly, the main control parameters are updated according to the fitness value under the tolerance threshold. Additionally, an effective repair method is proposed to handle the equality constraints of the ELD problems. ADE-MMS not only improve the convergence speed of the original DE but also keep equilibrium state between the exploration and the exploration. A tolerance threshold for the main control parameters makes the original DE more adaptive. Moreover, the modified equality constraints handling method is benefit to meet the equality constraints and minimize the impact on the algorithm. The performances of four DE algorithms are tested on the ten ELD problems with diverse complexities. Experimental results and comparisons with other recently reported ELD algorithms confirm that ADE-MMS is capable of obtaining excellent and feasible solutions. It reveal that ADE-MMS has good potential to solvating the ELD problems.  相似文献

During the last decade, energy regulatory policies all over the globe have been influenced by the introduction of competition. In a multi-area deregulated power market, competitive bidding and allocation of energy and reserve is crucial for maintaining performance and reliability. The increased penetration of intermittent renewable generation requires for sufficient allocation of reserve services to maintain security and reliability. As a result the market operators and generating companies are opting for market models for joint energy and reserve dispatch with a cost minimization/profit maximization goal. The joint dispatch (JD) problem is more complex than the traditional economic dispatch (ED) due to the additional constraints like the reserve limits, transmission limits, area power balance, energy-reserve coupling constraints and separate sectional price offer curves for both, energy and reserve. The present work proposes a model for the joint static/dynamic dispatch of energy and reserve in deregulated market for multi-area operation using enhanced versions of particle swarm optimization (PSO) and differential evolution (DE). A parameter automation strategy is employed in the classical PSO and DE algorithms (i) to enhance their search capability; (ii) to avoid premature convergence; and (iii) to maintain a balance between global and local search. The performance of enhanced PSO and DE variants is compared for single/multi-area power systems for static/dynamic operation, taking both linear and non-smooth cost functions. The proposed approach is validated on two test systems for different demands, reserve requirements, tie-line capacities and generator outages.  相似文献

We present a new hybrid method for solving constrained numerical and engineering optimization problems in this paper. The proposed hybrid method takes advantage of the differential evolution (DE) ability to find global optimum in problems with complex design spaces while directly enforcing feasibility of constraints using a modified augmented Lagrangian multiplier method. The basic steps of the proposed method are comprised of an outer iteration, in which the Lagrangian multipliers and various penalty parameters are updated using a first-order update scheme, and an inner iteration, in which a nonlinear optimization of the modified augmented Lagrangian function with simple bound constraints is implemented by a modified differential evolution algorithm. Experimental results based on several well-known constrained numerical and engineering optimization problems demonstrate that the proposed method shows better performance in comparison to the state-of-the-art algorithms.  相似文献

Nonlinear optimization algorithms could be divided into local exploitation methods such as Nelder–Mead (NM) algorithm and global exploration ones, such as differential evolution (DE). The former searches fast yet could be easily trapped by local optimum, whereas the latter possesses better convergence quality. This paper proposes hybrid differential evolution and NM algorithm with re-optimization, called as DE-NMR. At first a modified NM, called NMR is presented. It re-optimizes from the optimum point at the first time and thus being able to jump out of local optimum, exhibits better properties than NM. Then, NMR is combined with DE. To deal with equal constraints, adaptive penalty function method is adopted in DE-NMR, which relaxes equal constraints into unequal constrained functions with an adaptive relaxation parameter that varies with iteration. Benchmark optimization problems as well as engineering design problems are used to experiment the performance of DE-NMR, with the number of function evaluation times being employed as the main index of measuring convergence speed, and objective function values as the main index of optimum’s quality. Non-parametric tests are employed in comparing results with other global optimization algorithms. Results illustrate the fast convergence speed of DE-NMR.  相似文献

Evolutionary algorithms (EAs) are fast and robust computation methods for global optimization, and have been widely used in many real-world applications. We first conceptually discuss the equivalences of various popular EAs including genetic algorithm (GA), biogeography-based optimization (BBO), differential evolution (DE), evolution strategy (ES) and particle swarm optimization (PSO). We find that the basic versions of BBO, DE, ES and PSO are equal to the GA with global uniform recombination (GA/GUR) under certain conditions. Then we discuss their differences based on biological motivations and implementation details, and point out that their distinctions enhance the diversity of EA research and applications. To further study the characteristics of various EAs, we compare the basic versions and advanced versions of GA, BBO, DE, ES and PSO to explore their optimization ability on a set of real-world continuous optimization problems. Empirical results show that among the basic versions of the algorithms, BBO performs best on the benchmarks that we studied. Among the advanced versions of the algorithms, DE and ES perform best on the benchmarks that we studied. However, our main conclusion is that the conceptual equivalence of the algorithms is supported by the fact that algorithmic modifications result in very different performance levels.  相似文献

Differential evolution (DE) algorithm is a population-based algorithm designed for global optimization of the optimization problems. This paper proposes a different DE algorithm based on mathematical modeling of socio-political evolution which is called Colonial Competitive Differential Evolution (CCDE). The two typical CCDE algorithms are benchmarked on three well-known test functions, and the results are verified by a comparative study with two original DE algorithms which include DE/best/1 and DE/rand/2. Also, the effectiveness of CCDE algorithms is tested on Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problem including 10, 15, 40, and 140-unit test systems. In this study, the constraints and operational limitations, such as valve-point loading, transmission losses, ramp rate limits, and prohibited operating zones are considered. The comparative results show that the CCDE algorithms have good performance and are reliable tools in solving ELD problem.  相似文献

This paper presents a constrained Self-adaptive Differential Evolution (SaDE) algorithm for the design of robust optimal fixed structure controllers with uncertainties and disturbance. Almost all real world optimization problems have constraints which should be satisfied along with the best optimal solution for the problem. In evolutionary algorithms (EAs) the presence of constraints reduces the feasible region and complicates the search process. Therefore, a suitable method to handle the constraints must also be executed. In the SaDE algorithm, four mutation strategies and the control parameter CR are self-adapted. Self-adaptive Penalty (SP) method is introduced into the SaDE algorithm for constraint handling. The performance of SaDE algorithm is demonstrated on the design of robust optimal fixed structure controller of three systems, namely the linearized magnetic levitation system, F-8 aircraft linearized model and a SISO plant. For the comparison purpose, reported results of constrained PSO algorithm and five DE algorithms with different strategies and parameter values are taken into account. Statistical performance in 20 independent runs is considered to compare the performance of algorithms. From the obtained results, it is observed that SaDE algorithm is able to self-adapt the mutation strategy and the crossover rate and hence performs better than the other variants of DE and the constrained PSO algorithm. Better performance of SaDE is achieved by sustained maintenance of diversity throughout the evolutionary process thus producing better individuals consistently. This also aids the algorithm to escape from local optima thereby avoiding premature convergence.  相似文献

Differential evolution (DE) is a kind of evolutionary algorithms, which is suitable for solving complex optimization problems. Mutation is a crucial step in DE that generates new solutions from old ones. It was argued and has been commonly adopted in DE that the solutions selected for mutation should have mutually different indices. This restrained condition, however, has not been verified either theoretically or empirically yet. In this paper, we empirically investigate the selection of solutions for mutation in DE. From the observation of the extensive experiments, we suggest that the restrained condition could be relaxed for some classical DE versions as well as some advanced DE variants. Moreover, relaxing the restrained condition may also be useful in designing better future DE algorithms.  相似文献

This paper proposes a new battery swapping station (BSS) model to determine the optimized charging scheme for each incoming Electric Vehicle (EV) battery. The objective is to maximize the BSS’s battery stock level and minimize the average charging damage with the use of different types of chargers. An integrated objective function is defined for the multi-objective optimization problem. The genetic algorithm (GA), differential evolution (DE) algorithm and three versions of particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms have been implemented to solve the problem, and the results show that GA and DE perform better than the PSO algorithms, but the computational time of GA and DE are longer than using PSO. Hence, the varied population genetic algorithm (VPGA) and varied population differential evolution (VPDE) algorithm are proposed to determine the optimal solution and reduce the computational time of typical evolutionary algorithms. The simulation results show that the performances of the proposed algorithms are comparable with the typical GA and DE, but the computational times of the VPGA and VPDE are significantly shorter. A 24-h simulation study is carried out to examine the feasibility of the model.  相似文献

This paper proposes using the opposition-based learning (OBL) strategy in the shuffled differential evolution (SDE). In the SDE, population is divided into several memeplexes and each memeplex is improved by the differential evolution (DE) algorithm. The OBL by comparing the fitness of an individual to its opposite and retaining the fitter one in the population accelerates search process. The objective of this paper is to introduce new versions of the DE which, on one hand, use the partitioning and shuffling concepts of SDE to compensate for the limited amount of search moves of the original DE and, on the other hand, employ the OBL to accelerate the DE without making premature convergence. Four versions of DE algorithm are proposed based on the OBL and SDE strategies. All algorithms similarly use the opposition-based population initialization to achieve fitter initial individuals and their difference is in applying opposition-based generation jumping. Experiments on 25 benchmark functions designed for the special session on real-parameter optimization of CEC2005 and non-parametric analysis of obtained results demonstrate that the performances of the proposed algorithms are better than the SDE. The fourth version of proposed algorithm has a significant difference compared to the SDE in terms of all considered aspects. The emphasis of comparison results is to obtain some successful performances on unsolved functions for the first time, which so far have not been reported any successful runs on them. In a later part of the comparative experiments, performance comparisons of the proposed algorithm with some modern DE algorithms reported in the literature confirm a significantly better performance of our proposed algorithm, especially on high-dimensional functions.  相似文献

The optimal design of structural systems with conventional members or systems with conventional as well as passive or active members is presented. The optimal sizes of the conventional members of structural systems are obtained for dynamic loads. A modified simulated annealing algorithm is presented which is used to solve the optimization problem with dynamic constraints. The present algorithm differs from existing simulated annealing algorithms in two respects; first, an automatic reduction of the search range is performed, and second, a sensitivity analysis of the design variables is utilized. The present method converges to the minimum in less iterations when compared to existing simulated annealing algorithms. The algorithm is advantageous over classical methods for optimization of structural systems with constraints arising from dynamic loads. For certain initial values of the design variables, classical optimization methods either fail to converge or produce designs which are local minima; the present algorithm seems to be successful in yielding the global minimum design.  相似文献

In this article, two algorithms are presented for the optimum design of geometrically nonlinear steel space frames that are based on simulated annealing and genetic algorithm. The design algorithms obtain minimum weight frames by selecting suitable sections from a standard set of steel sections such as the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) wide-flange shapes. Stress constraints of AISC Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) and AISC Allowable Stress Design (ASD) specifications, maximum (lateral displacement) and interstorey drift constraints, and also size constraints for columns were imposed on frames. The algorithms were applied to the optimum design of three space frame structures, which have a very small amount of nonlinearity. The unconstrained form of objective function was applied in both optimum design algorithms, and constant penalty factors were used instead of gradually increasing ones. Although genetic algorithm took much less time to converge, the comparisons showed that the simulated annealing algorithm yielded better designs together with AISC-LRFD code specification.

This paper proposes a hybrid meta-heuristic based on integrating a local search simplex downhill (SDH) method into the search procedure of real-code ant colony optimisation (ACOR). This hybridisation leads to five hybrid algorithms where a Monte Carlo technique, a Latin hypercube sampling technique (LHS) and a translational propagation Latin hypercube design (TPLHD) algorithm are used to generate an initial population. Also, two numerical schemes for selecting an initial simplex are investigated. The original ACOR and its hybrid versions along with a variety of established meta-heuristics are implemented to solve 17 constrained test problems where a fuzzy set theory penalty function technique is used to handle design constraints. The comparative results show that the hybrid algorithms are the top performers. Using the TPLHD technique gives better results than the other sampling techniques. The hybrid optimisers are a powerful design tool for constrained mechanical design problems.  相似文献

The problem in software cost estimation revolves around accuracy. To improve the accuracy, heuristic/meta-heuristic algorithms have been known to yield better results when it is applied in the domain of software cost estimation. For the sake of accuracy in results, we are still modifying these algorithms. Here we have proposed a new meta-heuristic algorithm based on Differential Evolution (DE) by Homeostasis mutation operator. Software development requires high prediction and low Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) and mean magnitude relative error(MMRE). The problem in software cost estimation relates to accurate prediction and minimization of RMSE and MMRE, which are used to solve multiobjective optimization. Many versions of DE were proposed, however multi-objective versions where the concept of Pareto optimality is used, are most popular. Pareto-Based Differential Evolution (PBDE) is one of them. Although the performance of this algorithm is very good, its convergence rate can be further improved by minimizing the time complexity of nondominated sorting, and by improving the diversity of solutions. This has been implemented by using efficient nondominated algorithm whose time complexity is better than the previous one and a new mutation scheme is implemented in DE which can provide more diversity among solutions. The proposed variant multiplies the Homeostasis value with one more vector, named the Homeostasis mutation vector, in the existing mutation vector to provide more bandwidth for selecting effective mutant solutions. The proposed approach provides more promising solutions to guide the evolution and helps DE escape the situation of stagnation. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated on twelve benchmark test functions (bi-objective and tri-objective) on the Pareto-optimal front. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with other state-of-the-art algorithms on five multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs). The result verifies that our proposed Homeostasis mutation strategy performs better than other state-of-the-art algorithms. Finally, application of MODE-HBM is applied to solve in terms of Pareto front, representing the trade-off between development RMSE, MMRE, and prediction for COCOMO model.  相似文献

Meeting the design challenges inherent in complex multichip modules that also reduce power dissipation is a daunting task, considering the number of constraints and the nonlinear cost functions explored early in the prototyping process. Current algorithms do not do the job. A new systematic approach combines commercial software with simple size-reduction and linearization methods that are largely unknown in the industry.
