We define and study the symmetric version of differential torsion theories. We prove that the symmetric versions of some of the existing results on derivations on right modules of quotients hold for derivations on symmetric modules of quotients. In particular, we prove that the symmetric Lambek, Goldie, and perfect torsion theories are differential.

We also study conditions under which a derivation on a right or symmetric module of quotients extends to a right or symmetric module of quotients with respect to a larger torsion theory. Using these results, we study extensions of ring derivations to maximal, total, and perfect right and symmetric rings of quotients.  相似文献

Let R be a ring and β×α(R) (? β×α(R)) the set of all β × α full (row finite) matrices over R where α and β ≥ 1 are two cardinal numbers. A left R-module M is said to be “injective relative” to a matrix A ? ? β×α(R) if every R-homomorphism from R (β) A to M extends to one from R (α) to M. It is proved that M is injective relative to A if and only if it is A-pure in every module which contains M as a submodule. A right R-module N is called flat relative to a matrix A ?  β×α(R) if the canonical map μ: N? R (β) A → N α is a monomorphism. This extends the notion of (m, n)-flat modules so that n-projectivity, finitely projectivity, and τ-flatness can be redefined in terms of flatness relative to certain matrices. R is called left coherent relative to a matrix A ?  β×α(R) if R (β) A is a left R-ML module. Some results on τ-coherent rings and (m, n)-coherent rings are extended.  相似文献

Let V be a finite-dimensional vector space over a field k, and let W be a 1-dimensional k-vector space. Let ?,?: V × V → W be a symmetric bilinear form. Then ?,? is called anisotropic if for all nonzero v ∈ V we have ? v, v ? ≠ 0. Motivated by a problem in algebraic number theory, we give a generalization of the concept of anisotropy to symmetric bilinear forms on finitely generated modules over artinian principal ideal rings. We will give many equivalent definitions of this concept of anisotropy. One of the definitions shows that a form is anisotropic if and only if certain forms on vector spaces are anisotropic. We will also discuss the concept of quasi-anisotropy of a symmetric bilinear form, which has no vector space analogue. Finally, we will discuss the radical root of a symmetric bilinear form, which does not have a vector space analogue either. All three concepts have applications in algebraic number theory.  相似文献

Let R be an associative ring with identity. An element a ∈ R is called clean if a = e + u with e an idempotent and u a unit of R, and a is called strongly clean if, in addition, eu = ue. A ring R is clean if every element of R is clean, and R is strongly clean if every element of R is strongly clean. When is a matrix ring over a strongly clean ring strongly clean? Does a strongly clean ring have stable range one? For these open questions, we prove that 𝕄 n (C(X)) is strongly π-regular (hence, strongly clean) where C(X) is the ring of all real valued continuous functions on X with X a P-space; C(X) is clean iff it has stable range one; and a unital C*-algebra in which every unit element is self-adjoint is clean iff it has stable range one. The criteria for the ring of complex valued continuous functions C(X,?) to be strongly clean is given.  相似文献

All rings are commutative with identity and all modules are unital. Let R be a ring and M an R-module. In our recent work [6 Ali , M. M. , Smith D. J. ( 2004 ). Some remarks on multiplication and projective modules . Communications in Algebra 32 : 38973909 .[Taylor &; Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]] we investigated faithful multiplication modules and the properties they have in common with projective modules. In this article, we continue our study and investigate faithful multiplication and locally cyclic projective modules and give several properties for them. If M is either faithful multiplication or locally cyclic projective then M is locally either zero or isomorphic to R. We show that, if M is a faithful multiplication module or a locally cyclic projective module, then for every submodule N of M there exists a unique ideal Γ(N) ? Tr(M) such that N = Γ(N)M. We use this result to show that the structure of submodules of a faithful multplication or locally cyclic projective module and their traces are closely related. We also use the trace of locally cyclic projective modules to study their endomorphisms.  相似文献

In this paper, algebras are finite dimensional over an algebraically closed field k, and modules are k-finite dimensional left modules. We prove the stable equivalence conjecture for algebras stably equivalent to algebras A with the following conditions: basic, connected and selfinjective; rad3A = 0 but rad2A ¬ 0; and the separated quiver Q3 A of the quiver QA of A consisting of more than two connected components.  相似文献
