Blends of nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) with butadiene rubber (BR) with varying ratios have been prepared. Vulcanization of prepared blends has been induced by ionizing radiation of gamma rays with varying dose up to 250 kGy. Physical properties, namely soluble fraction and swelling number have been followed up using toluene as a solvent. Mechanical properties, namely tensile strength, tensile modulus at 100% elongation and elongation at break have been followed up as a function of irradiation dose, as well as blend composition. Thermal stability of blends was studied by TGA. The result indicated that the addition of NBR has improved the properties of NBR/BR blends. Also, NBR/BR blend is thermally stable than BR alone.  相似文献

Blends of natural rubber/virgin ethylene-propylene-diene-monomer (NR/EPDM) and natural rubber/recycled ethylene-propylene-diene-monomer (NR/R-EPDM) were prepared. A fixed amount of carbon black (30 phr) was also incorporated. The effect of the blend ratio (90/10, 80/20, 70/30, 60/40 and 50/50 (phr/phr)) on the compounding, mechanical and morphological properties of carbon-black-filled NR/EPDM and NR/R-EPDM blends was studied. The results indicated that both the carbon-black-filled NR/EPDM and NR/R-EPDM blends exhibited a decrease in tensile strength and elongation at break for increasing weight ratio of EPDM or R-EPDM. The maximum torque (S′MH), minimum torque (S′ML), torque difference (S′MH?ML), scorch time (ts2) and cure time (tc90) of carbon-black-filled NR/EPDM or NR/R-EPDM blends increased with increasing weight ratio of virgin EPDM or R-EPDM in the blend. SEM micrographs proved that, for low weight ratios of virgin EPDM or R-EPDM, the blends exhibited high surface roughness and matrix tearing lines. The blends also showed a reduction in crack path with increasing virgin EPDM or R-EPDM content over 30 phr. This reduction in crack path could lead to less resistance to crack propagation and, therefore, low tensile strength.  相似文献

High styrene rubber (HSR)/styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) blends at different ratios were exposed to various doses of electron beam irradiation. The effect of irradiation dose and blend ratios on the mechanical properties and shape memory characteristics in terms of strain fixation) rate (Rf) and strain recovery rate (Rr) was investigated. The results revealed that rich styrene blends displayed higher tensile strength and hardness than low styrene content blends at all irradiation doses. However, elongation at break, and toughness were lower for rich styrene content. Also, it was observed that for most specimens, the tensile strength, elongation at break and hardness increases up to100 kGy. Increasing irradiation doses resulted in slight deterioration in some mechanical properties only for low styrene content at150 kGy. According to the normalized tensile stress at 25% elongation, it was found that the contribution of irradiation in enhancing the mechanical properties is higher for rich butadiene blends. On the other hand, it was observed that rich styrene content blends possess higher Rf and Rr at all the irradiation doses and stretching temperatures. However, the increase of irradiation dose decreases Rf values; the extent of this decrease depends on the blend ratios. Conversely, for all blends, Rr were increased by increasing irradiation dose and styrene content ratios.  相似文献

This research work has concerned a study on toughness of PVC/natural rubber (NR) blends compatibilized with epoxidized natural rubber (ENR). The aim of this work was to investigate the effect of degree of epoxidation on morphology and mechanical properties of the blends. Epoxidized natural rubber with a variety of epoxidation contents were prepared by reacting the NR latex with formic acid and hydrogen peroxide at various chemical contents. Chemical structure and epoxidation content of epoxidized natural rubber were evaluated by FTIR and 1H-NMR techniques. After that, three grades of ENR with epoxidation contents of 15, 25 and 42 % (by mole) were further used for blending with PVC and NR in an internal mixer at 60 rpm and at 170 °C. From tensile and impact tests, it was found that tensile elongation and impact strength of the materials remarkably increased with degree of epoxidation. On the other hand, tensile strength and modulus of the materials rarely changed with the epoxidation content. An increase in toughness of the blends with epoxidation content was related to a better molecular interaction between PVC and ENR as suggested by torque-time curves of the materials.  相似文献

The mechanical properties and phase morphologies of cis-1,4-butadiene rubber(BR) blended with polyethylene(PE) at different blend ratios were studied. The tensile test results show that the PE exhibits excellent reinforcing capabilities towards BR. Blending BR with PE results in a remarkable enhancement of tensile strength, modulus and the elongation at break simultaneously. An increment of tensile strength from 1.11 MPa to 16.26 MPa was achieved by incorporation of 40 wt% PE in the blends. The modulus and elongation at break of 40/60 PE/BR blends are also about 5 times higher than those of the pure BR treated under exactly the same conditions. The tear test indicates that the tear strength also increases with the increase of PE content. It reaches 58.38 MPa for the 40/60 PE/BR blend, which is approximately 10 times higher than that of the pure BR. Morphological study demonstrates that the PE forms elongated microdomains finely dispersed in the BR matrix when its content is over 30 wt%, which corresponds to the remarkably enhanced mechanical properties.According to the results, reinforcement mechanism of PE toward BR dependent on the microstructure has been discussed and two different mechanisms have been proposed.  相似文献

Epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) blends were prepared by simple blend and dynamic vulcanization. The main objective was to prepare a low‐hardness TPU material with good damping and elastic and mechanical properties. It was found that the incorporation of ENR into the blend shows a reduction in Young's modulus, hardness (i.e. <70 Shore A), damping properties (i.e. tan δ < 0.3), and tension set (i.e. <20%) compared with the pure TPU. This indicates the formation of softer TPU materials with superior damping and elastomeric properties. However, incorporation of ENR sacrificed mechanical properties in terms of tensile strength and elongation at break, but these still remain in the range of applicability for industrial uses. It was also found that dynamic vulcanization caused enhancement of mechanical properties, relaxation, damping, rheological properties, and elasticity of the blends. Temperature scanning stress relaxation measurements revealed an improvement in stress relaxation properties and thermal resistance of the dynamically cured ENR/TPU blend. Thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) comprising air‐dried sheet or natural rubber (ADS or NR) and high‐density polyethylene (HDPE) was prepared by a simple blending technique. NR and HDPE were mixed with each type of phenolic compatibilizer (HRJ‐10518 or SP‐1045) or liquid natural rubber (LNR) at 180°C in an internal mixer. The mixing torque, shear stress, and shear viscosity of the blends increased with increasing amounts of NR. Positive deviation blend (PDB) for the blends containing active hydroxyl methyl phenolic resin in HRJ‐10518 or dimethyl phenolic resin in SP‐1045 was obtained. PDB was not observed for the blends without the compatibilizers or with LNR. The blends with HRJ‐10518 or SP‐1045 were compatible or partially compatible while the LNR blends were incompatible. In the phenolic compatibilized blends, NR dispersed in the HDPE matrix was found in the NR/HDPE blends of 20/80, 40/60, and 50/50 ratios. HDPE dispersed in NR matrix was obtained in the NR/HDPE blend of 80/20 ratio, and the co‐continuous phase was accomplished in the NR/HDPE blend of 60/40 ratio. The NR/HDPE blend at 60/40 ratio compatibilized with HRJ‐10518 and fabricated by a simple plastic injection molding machine exhibited higher ultimate tensile strength and elongation at break (EB). Incorporation of parafinic oil caused a decreasing tendency in tensile strength with increases in EB. The TPNRs exhibited high elastomeric nature with low‐tension set. Chlorinated nitrile rubber (Cl-NBR) has been blended with chlorinated ethylene propylene diene rubber (Cl-EPDM) in different ratios by a conventional mill mixing method. The effect of the blend ratio on processing characteristics, mechanical properties (such as tensile and tear strength, elongation at break, hardness, abrasion resistance, heat build-up and resilience), structure, morphology, glass transition temperature (Tg), thermal stability, flame retardancy, oil resistance, AC conductivity, dielectric properties and transport behavior of petrol, diesel and kerosene were investigated. The shift in absorption bands of blends studied from FTIR spectra, single Tg from DSC analysis and decrease in amorphous nature from XRD showed the molecular miscibility in Cl-NBR/Cl-EPDM blends. SEM images showed the uniform mixing of both Cl-NBR and Cl-EPDM in a 50/50 blend ratio. The TGA curves indicated the better thermal stability of the polymer blend. The elongation at break, heat build-up, resilience and hardness of the polymer blend decreases with an increase in Cl-NBR content in the blend whereas the flame and oil resistance were increased with increase in Cl-NBR content. Among the polymer blends, the maximum torque, tensile strength, tear and abrasion resistance was obtained for the 50/50 blend ratio because of the effective interfacial interactions between the blend components. AC conductivity and dielectric properties of polymer blend increased with increase in the ratio of Cl-NBR in the blend. Different transport properties such as diffusion, permeation and sorption coefficient were measured with respect to nature of solvent and different blend ratios. Temperature dependence of diffusion was used to estimate the activation parameters and the mechanism of transport found to be anomalous.  相似文献

A new method was used to prepare thermoplastic elastomers based on polypropylene (PP)/recycled acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBRr) with improved mechanical properties. An epoxy resin (EP) was used as a compatibilizing agent. The effect of EP on mechanical properties, swelling percentage and morphological characteristics of the blends was investigated with different blend compositions. The results showed that the incorporation of EP has improved the tensile strength, Young's modulus and elongation at break of PP/NBRr-EP blends compared with PP/NBRr blends. The enhancement of tensile properties of PP/NBRr-EP blends is due to the better adhesion between the two phases with the incorporation of EP. This is quite evident by scanning electron microscopy of tensile fractured surfaces. PP/NBRr-EP blend exhibits lower stabilization torque and swelling percentage than PP/NBRr blends. The lower stabilization torque is an indication of better processing characteristics.  相似文献

The mechanical and physical properties of blends based essentially on nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) and different ratios of high density polyethylene (HDPE) up to 25 parts per hundred part of rubber (phr) before and after electron beam irradiation were investigated. The values of tensile strength (TS), tensile modulus at 50% elongation (M50), hardness and gel fraction % (GF%) of NBR/HDPE blends were increased with both irradiation dose and by increasing the content of HDPE in the blends. On the other hand, the values of elongation at break (E b ) were decreased with both irradiation dose and the content of HDPE in the blends. By loading NBR/HDPE (100/25) blend with ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer the mechanical and physico-chemical properties were improved. Moreover, the degree of improvement is proportional to the loading content of EVA.  相似文献

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) composites consisting of PLA, rice starch (RS) (0–50 wt%) and epoxidised natural rubber (ENR50) were compounded by a twin-screw extruder and compression moulded into dumbbell specimens. Tensile tests were performed to characterize the mechanical properties of the PLA/RS composites. Morphological studies were done on the tensile fractured surface of the specimens by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Twenty weight percent of RS achieved a good balance of strength and stiffness. Beyond 20 wt% loading of RS, the tensile strength and elongation at break of PLA decreased drastically. This may be attributed to the agglomeration of RS, which could then act as stress concentrator. The incorporation of ENR50 increased the tensile strength and elongation at break of the PLA/RS composites remarkably, owing to the elastomeric behaviour and compatibilisation effects of ENR50. Interestingly, the morphology of PLA/RS composites transformed to a more ductile one with the addition of ENR. The kinetics of water absorption of the PLA/RS composites conforms to Fick's law. The Mm and D values are dependent on the RS and ENR concentrations. The tensile properties of the PLA/RS composites deteriorated after water absorption. The retention-ability and recoverability of the PLA/RS composites are relatively low, attributed to the hydrolysis of PLA, degradation of the PLA–RS interface and leaching of the RS particles. In addition, the tensile properties of PLA/RS composites decreased drastically upon exposure to enzymatic degradation. Extensive pinhole and surface erosion on the PLA/RS composites indicate high degree of hydrolysis. Whilst the addition of ENR leads to some improvements in tensile properties, nevertheless, it enhanced the biodegradability of the PLA/RS composites when exposed to water and -amylase enzymatic treatments.  相似文献

Effects of precipitated silica (PSi) and silica from fly ash (FA) particles (FASi) on the cure and mechanical properties before and after thermal and oil aging of natural rubber (NR) and acrylonitrile–butadiene rubber (NBR) blends with and without chloroprene rubber (CR) or epoxidized NR (ENR) as a compatibilizer have been reported in this paper. The experimental results suggested that the scorch and cure times decreased with the addition of silica and the compound viscosity increased on increasing the silica content. The mechanical properties for PSi filled NR/NBR vulcanizates were greater than those for FASi filled NR/NBR vulcanizates in all cases. The PSi could be used for reinforcing the NR/NBR vulcanizates while the silica from FA was regarded as a semi‐reinforcing and/or extending filler. The incorporation of CR or ENR enhanced the mechanical properties of the NR/NBR vulcanizates, the ENR being more effective and compatible with the blend. The mechanical properties of the NR/NBR vulcanizates were improved by post‐curing effect from thermal aging but deteriorated by the oil aging. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The viscoelastic properties of synthetic polyisoprenes(PI) reinforced by white carbon black(WCB) have been investigated and compared with WCB reinforced natural rubber(NR), including cure characteristics, physio-mechanical and dynamic mechanical properties. Compared with NR, PI loaded with the same amount of WCB(PI/WCB) exhibited shorter scorch time and optimal cure time, indicating that WCB fillers are comparatively easier to conjugate with PI. The tensile strength and elongation at break decreased with WCB filling in both PI and NR vulcanizates. The hardness of the rubber vulcanizates increased with the WCB filling in the rubber matrix. PI/WCB blends exhibited smaller hardness data, lower tensile strength, as well as lower elongation at break and tensile stress. Increasing the amount of WCB in rubber matrix induced the Payne effect. However, the Payne effect is much more obvious for the PI/WCB system, and PI/WCB also displayed higher storage modulus whereas lower loss modulus and loss tangent than NR/WCB, which could all be attributed to the poor dispersibilities of WCB in the PI matrix.  相似文献

The loading effect of precipitated silica (PSi) and fly ash‐based silica (FASi) on mechanical properties of natural rubber/chloroprene (NR/CR) under thermal and thermal‐oil ageing was investigated with variation in NR content in the NR/CR blends. The selected results were compared with vulcanized NR/nitrile rubber (NR/NBR) blends. The cure time of CR vulcanizate was found to decrease with increasing NR content, but increased with silica fillers. The Mooney viscosity for CR vulcanizates reduced with increasing NR content. The addition of NR had no effect on tensile modulus and tensile strength for the FASi filled NR/CR, but the opposite trend was observed for the PSi filled NR/CR. The post‐curing effect was more significant in PSi filled NR/CR than in FASi filled NR/CR. The tensile strength of the NR/CR vulcanizates was slightly reduced after thermal ageing especially at high NR content, more extreme reduction being found by thermal‐oil ageing. The elongation at break of NR/CR with both silica fillers ranged from 400 to 900%. The hardness results were similar to the tensile modulus. The addition of PSi in NR/CR considerably increased the tear strength, but less pronounced effect was found for FASi. The resilience properties of NR/CR tended to decrease with increasing silica content. The compression set became poorer when NR content was increased. The PSi showed higher improvement in compression set than the FASi. The effects of silica and ageing on the mechanical properties for NR/CR vulcanizates were similar to those for NR/NBR vulcanizates. Mechanical and dynamic mechanical properties of natural rubber/recycled ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (NR/R-EPDM) blends were simultanoeusly enhanced by electron beam (EB) irradiation. The cross-linking promoter, trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA), was also introduced into the blends to induce the cross-linking. By applying EB irradiation, the tensile modulus, hardness, swelling, cross-link density, and storage modulus increased with increase in the irradiation dose; an irradiation dose of 50 kGy was efficient to gain optimum tensile strength. The formation of irradiation-induced cross-links after EB irradiation is a major concern for the enhancement of mechanical, swelling resistance, and dynamic mechanical properties of the blends.  相似文献

Silica is a popular filler, but in epoxidized natural rubber, can act as a cross-linking agent. Unfortunately, a high amount of silica is necessary to obtain satisfactory tensile strength. Moreover, a high amount of silica in ENR/silica hybrids is associated with low elongation at break. In our paper, we propose natural phenolic compounds, including quercetin, tannic acid, and gallic acid as natural and safe additional crosslinkers dedicated to ENR/silica hybrids to obtain bio-elastomers with improved mechanical properties. Therefore, toxic crosslinkers, such as peroxides or harmful accelerators can be eliminated. The impact of selected natural phenolic compounds on crosslinking effect, mechanical properties, color, and chemical structure of ENR/silica composite have been analyzed. The obtained results indicated that only 3 phr of selected natural phenolic compounds is able to improve crosslinking effect as well as mechanical properties of ENR/silica hybrids. Moreover, some of the prepared materials tend to regain mechanical properties after reprocessing. Such materials containing only natural and safe ingredients have a chance of becoming novel elastomeric biomaterials dedicated to biomedical applications.
