Spectra from 2678-2931 Å were obtained of an active region during the 19 June 1974, flight of the University of Hawaii rocket-borne echelle spectrograph. We report behavior of the Mg i and ii resonance line cores in quiet Sun, plage, sunspot, and filament structures. Among the interesting variations in these lines we discern a strong suppression of the red Mg ii emission peaks and possible rapid changes in the Mg i core in the spatially partially resolved sunspot.  相似文献

We present coefficients for the calculation of the continuous emission spectra of H  i , He  i and He  ii due to electron–ion recombination. Coefficients are given for photon energies from the first ionization threshold for each ion to the   n = 20  threshold of hydrogen  (36.5 μm)  , and for temperatures  100 ≤  T ≤ 105 K  . The emission coefficients for He  i are derived from accurate ab initio photoionization data. The coefficients are scaled in such a way that they may be interpolated by a simple scheme with uncertainties less than 1 per cent in the whole temperature and wavelength domain. The data are suitable for incorporation into photoionization/plasma codes and should aid with the interpretation of spectra from the very cold ionized gas phase inferred to exist in a number of gaseous clouds.  相似文献

On the H i content, dust-to-gas ratio and nature of Mg ii absorbers   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We estimate the mean dust-to-gas ratio of Mg  ii absorbers as a function of rest equivalent width W 0 and redshift over the range  0.5 < z < 1.4  . Using the expanded Sloan Digital Sky Survey/ Hubble Space Telescope sample of low-redshift Lyman-α absorbers, we first show the existence of a 8σ correlation between the mean hydrogen column density  〈 N H  i 〉  and W 0, an indicator of gas velocity dispersion. By combining these results with recent dust-reddening measurements, we show that the mean dust-to-gas ratio of Mg  ii absorbers does not appreciably depend on rest equivalent width. Assuming that, on average, dust-to-gas ratio is proportional to metallicity, we find its redshift evolution to be consistent with that of   L   galaxies from   z = 0.5  to 1.4, and we show that our constraints disfavour dwarf galaxies as the origin of such absorbers. We discuss other scenarios and favour galactic outflows from  ∼ L   galaxies as the origin of the majority of strong Mg  ii absorbers. Finally, we show that, once evolutionary effects are taken into account, the Bohlin et al. relation between A V and N H is also satisfied by strong Mg  ii systems down to lower column densities than those probed in our Galaxy.  相似文献

Observations made with the Coronal Diagnostic Spectrometer (CDS) onboard the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory ( SOHO ) are used to investigate the behaviour of the intensities of the emission lines of He  i , He  ii and O  iii at the quiet Sun-centre and at  θ= 60°  towards the equatorial limb. The aim is to examine the possible effects of photon scattering on the spatial variation of the optically thick helium lines. At the quiet Sun-centre, we find that, in agreement with previous work, the ratios of the intensities of the He  i 584-Å and He  ii 304-Å lines to those of the O  iii 600-Å line decrease systematically as the intensity of the O  iii line increases. However, we find that the dependence of these ratios on the O  iii intensity is not unique, but differs between the individual regions studied. Similar results are found at  θ= 60°  . We have also used line intensities and intensity ratios to investigate limb-to-disc effects and variations across a sample of supergranulation cell boundaries and adjacent cell interiors at both locations. The results do not exclude photon scattering as the cause of the larger observed ratios in cell interiors. The differences between the apparent widths of boundaries in O  iii at Sun-centre and 60° show that the emitting material is extended in height, which will aid the process of scattering into cell interiors. Photon scattering could also account for the lack of oscillations in the He  i intensities in a cell interior studied by Pietarila & Judge. Three-dimensional radiative transfer calculations in chosen geometries are now needed to account for the observations in detail.  相似文献

Abstract— We report petrography, mineral chemistry, and microdistribution of rare earth elements (REE) in a new lherzolitic shergottite, Grove Mountains (GRV) 99027. The textural relationship and REE patterns of minerals suggest precipitation of cumulus olivine and chromite, followed by equilibrium crystallization of a closed system with a bulk composition of the inferred intercumulus melt. Subsolidus equilibrium temperatures of pyroxenes and olivine range from 1100 to 1210 °C, based on a two‐pyroxene thermometry and Ca partitioning between augite and olivine. Oxygen fugacity of the parent magma is 1.5–2.5 (av. 2.0 ± 0.4) log units below the quartz‐fayalite‐magnetite (QFM) buffer at 960–1360 °C, according to the olivine‐orthopyroxene‐chromite barometer. The ilmenite‐chromite barometer and thermometer show much wider ranges of oxygen fugacity (1.0–7.0 log unit below QFM) and temperature (1130–480 °C), suggesting subsolidus equilibration of the oxides at low temperatures, probably due to deep burial of GRV 99027 on Mars. The low oxygen fugacity and LREE depletion of the parent magma of GRV 99027 suggest low contamination by martian crust. Characteristics of GRV 99027 demonstrate similarity of lherzolitic shergottites, suggesting a high possibility of launch pairing or a homogeneous upper mantle of Mars if they were ejected by individual impact events. However, GRV 99027 probably experienced severe post‐shock thermal metamorphism in comparison with other lherzolitic shergottites, based on the re‐crystallization of maskelynite, the homogeneity of minerals, and the low subsolidus equilibrium temperatures between chromite and ilmenite.  相似文献

Abstract— Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was successfully applied to bulk samples of Allende, Jilin, Modoc, Saint-Séverin and Atlanta for the determination of rare earth elements (REE) (Y and 14 lanthanoids), Th and U. The results of ICP-MS showed good agreement with recommended values, and their reproducibilities were high enough to discuss the detailed abundances of lanthanoids and actinoids in chondritic meteorites. For the Allende reference sample issued by the Smithsonian Institution, a positive anomaly of Tm, a fractionation between light REE and heavy REE and a high Th/U ratio were observed in the CI-normalized abundances of REE, Th and U. These features are common for group II inclusions in Allende, suggesting that the abundances of refractory lithophiles in Allende are somewhat influenced by those in a specific constituent. For the other chondritic meteorites, a zigzag alteration was commonly observed in the heavy-REE region of their CI-normalized abundance patterns. It is suggested that such a zigzag pattern is attributable to erratically high abundances of monoisotopic REE (Tb, Ho and Tm) in the CI values. Abstract— Phase diagrams describing solid-gas equilibria in the system Fe-Mg-Si-O-C-H under H-rich conditions (~700–2000 K and 10?2–10?20 atm of Ph 2), including solar nebula conditions, were constructed based on thermochemical calculations. Boundaries of vaporous phases, which are the first phases to condense from a gas, can be obtained without calculating condensation temperatures of individual gas compositions because the numbers of major gaseous species are the same as those of components in the concerned systems. Fractionations by condensation and/or evaporation can be discussed easily in such phase diagrams. A thermal divide, which is a barrier that vapors cannot cross by a single cooling process, was recognized in the phase diagrams. This is present on the Fe-MgO-SiO2-CO-H plane at high temperatures (≥500–700 K) and plays an important role in fractionations. Oxidizing states of ordinary chondrites and carbonaceous chondrites before aqueous alteration are located at the O-rich side of the thermal divide. Such oxidizing states can be formed from the solar gas by fractionation in the primordial solar nebula because the solar composition is located on the O-rich side. On the other hand, the reducing states of enstatite chondrites, located at the O-poor side, cannot be formed as long as the thermal divide is present. The reducing states can be obtained by CO to CH4 molecular reaction at low temperatures (≤500–700 K), where the high-temperature thermal divide is absent. Addition of H2O-rich and CH4-rich ice can explain establishment of the redox states of ordinary and enstatite chondrites, respectively.  相似文献

It has been proposed that divergence and crustal spreading occur in Western Aphrodite Terra and some adjacent equatorial regions of Venus at rates in the range of a few centimeters per year. If equatorial spreading is common and widespread, then a consequence of this should be: (1) a young average age of the surface of the planet, (2) a trend in age from older terrain in the polar regions to younger terrain toward the equator, and (3) a latitudinal distribution of extensional features in equatorial regions and compressional deformation features in middle to high latitudes. These predictions are tested using published results from Arecibo, VENERA 15/16, and Pioneer Venus data, and it is found that: (1) the northern mid-to-high latitudes are characterized by a young average age, (2) there is a trend in the total number of craters per unit area from high values in the north polar regions to low values toward the equator, and (3) there is evidence for a latitudinal distribution of tectonic features of different types, with extensional features common in equatorial regions and compressional deformation features common in the northern middle to high latitudes. Further tests of these and other predictions can be made using data from the upcoming Magellan mission.  相似文献
