The interest in cast tools has grown for several reasons. In particular, the casting process provides effective utilization of various kinds of waste high-speed steels. However, successful operation of cast tools is possible only if we solve the problem of the elevated brittleness of cast metal. The present work concerns the special features of the structure and properties of a cast low-alloy tungsten-free high-speed steel 11M5F in comparison with the properties of steel R6M5. The results of a metallographic and a microstructural analysis of the cast and heat-treated steel are discussed. The development of low-alloy high-speed steels that reduce the production cost of cutting tools and dies can present practical interest for plants and small enterprises manufacturing tools for their special purposes. The present paper gives the results of an investigation of hypereutectoid low-alloy high-speed steel 11M5F and a widely used steel of grade R6M5. The basic and technological properties of these steels are compared, and the results of industrial tests of cutting, thread-rolling, cold-stamping tools and tools for semihot deformation operating under various conditions are described. In the temperature range from −115 to +120°C, mechanical tests of samples of austenitic stainless steels 12Kh18N10T and 08Kh16N11M3—materials for the casings of spent fuel assemblies of a reactor BN-350 irradiated by neutrons to damaging doses of 11–55 dpa—have been carried out. In the range of cryogenic temperatures, in these highly irradiated steels there was discovered and investigated a new phenomenon—a “wave of plastic deformation,” which consists in the initiation, development, and propagation of a deformation band over the length of the sample, which leads to a possibility of reaching total relative deformation of 20% and greater, instead of 3–5% usually observed at given damaging doses. The role of a martensitic γ → α′ transformation in the formation of the “wave” and in the improvement in the mechanical properties of the metastable steel irradiated by neutrons is discussed.  相似文献
