We present 19 lightcurves of asteroid 1 Ceres obtained during a global campaign in 1975–1976. The synodic period is 0.37812 ± 0.00004 day. The mean absolute V magnitude is 3.61 ± 0.03 and the phase coefficient is 0.40 ± 0.001 mag/deg. The U-B and B-V phase coefficients are +0.0015 ± 0.0007 and +0.0006 ± 0.0003 mag/deg, respectively. The colors at zero phase are B-V = +0.70 ± 0.01 and U-B = +0.41 ± 0.01.  相似文献

Pioneers 10 and 11 have transmitted seven images of the Galilean satellites with surface resolutions on the order of several hundred kilometers. Because the point-spread function is well determined, it has been possible to measure the radius of each of the four satellites to a precision of typically ±30 km. The method used fits a semicircle to the illuminated limb by varying the center coordinates and radius until the best-fit criteria are satisfied. Careful attention is given to locating the true edge position within the blurred image. The radius determinations and corresponding densities for the satellites are: Io (1840 ± 30, 3.41 ± 0.19), Europa (1552 ± 20, 3.06 ± 0.15), Ganymede (2650 ± 25, 1.90 ± 0.06), and Callisto (2420 ± 20, 1.81 ± 0.05), where the units are in kilometers and grams per cubic centimeters, respectively. Since three images of Callisto were received, it has been possible to substantially decrease the uncertainties of the radius and density.  相似文献

Jupiter's Galilean satellites I–IV, Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto have been observed with the VLA at 2 and 6 cm. The Jovian system was about 4.46 AU from the Earth at the time the observations were taken. The flux densities for satellites I–IV at 2 cm are 15 ± 2, 5.6 ± 1.2, 22.3 ± 2.0, and 26.0 ± 2.5 mJy, respectively, which corresponds to disk brightness temperatures of 92 ± 13, 47 ± 10, 67 ± 6, and 92 ± 9°K, respectively. At 6 cm flux densities of 1.10 ± 0.2, 0.55 ± 0.12, 2.0 ± 0.2, and 3.15 ± 0.2 mJy were found, corresponding to temperatures of 65 ± 11, 44 ± 10, 55 ± 6, and 105 ± 7°K, respectively. The radio brightness temperatures are lower than the infrared, the latter generally being consistent with the temperature derived from equilibrium with absorbed insolation. The radio temperature are qualitatively consistent with the equilibrium temperature for fast rotating bodies considering the high radio reflectivity (low emissivity) as determined from radar measurements by S. J. Ostro (1982). In Satellites of Jupiter (D. Morrison, Ed.). Univ. of Arizona Press, Tucson).  相似文献

High-quality Earth-based photographs from the Lowell Observatory Planetary Research Center collection have been analyzed to derive some photometric parameters for the Martian south polar cap region during the 1971 apparition. The optical thickness of the atmosphere above the cap varied with wavelength from 0.35 ± 0.05 in red light to 0.58 ± 0.06 inuv light. The effective geometric albedo is calculated from the 30° phase data assuming isotropic scattering; it varies from 0.85 ± 0.04 (in red light) to 0.63 ± 0.05 (in uv light).  相似文献

A new radiometric model for disk-integrated photometry of asteroids is presented. With empirical support from photometry of Mercury and the Moon, the model assumes that observed sunward beaming of the infrared emission is due to craters. In contrast to earlier theoretical studies of the lunar emission, the observable flux ratio between a cratered sphere and a smooth sphere is calculated for large ranges in wavelength, temperature, and phase angle. Revised diameters and albedos based on the crater model are given for 84 asteroids. The revised values are in good agreement with Morrison's (1977) radiometric results. It is shown that the systematic discrepancy between radiometric and polarimetric albedos (Zellner and Gradie, 1976) is probably a double-valued function of albedo. Some typical geometric albedos from this paper, Morrison (1977), and Zellner and Gradie (1976), respectively, are: Ceres (0.050 ± 0.005, 0.053 ± 0.004, 0.068), Vesta (0.235 ± 0.032, 0235 ± 0.11, 0.271), mean C type (0.031 ± 0.009, 0.035 ± 0.009, 0.061 ± 0.005), mean S type (0.117 ± 0.030, 0.136 ± 0.032, 0.181 ± 0.23), and mean M type (0.105 ± 0.037, 0.115 ± 0.033, 0.157 ± 0.079). Areas of disagreement between radiometry and polarimetry are underscored, and research to resolve them is suggested.  相似文献

Photoelectric lightcurves of the asteroid 1862 Apollo were obtained in November–December 1980 and in April–May 1982. The period of rotation is unambiguously determined to be 3.0655 ± 0.0008 hr. The 1980 observations span a range of solar phase angle from 30° to 90°, and the 1982 observations, 0.°2 to 90°. The Lumme-Bowell-Harris phase relation can be fit to the absolute magnitudes at maximum light with an RMS scatter of 0.06 magnitude over the entire range of phase angle. The constants of the solution are absolute V magnitude at zero phase angle and at maximum light, 16.23 ± 0.02; slope parameter, 0.23 ± 0.01. These constant corresponds to values in the linear phase coefficient system of V(1, 0) = 16.50 ± 0.02 and a phase coefficient of βv = 0.0305 ± 0.0012 mag/degree in the phase range 10°–20°. The slope of the phase curve is typical for a moderate albedo asteroid. The absolute magnitudes observed in 1980 and 1982 fall along a common phase curve. That is, Apollo was not intrinsically brighter at one apparition than the other. This is not surprising, since the two apparitions were almost exactly opposite one another in the sky. A pole position was calculated from the observed deviation of the lightcurve from constant periodicity (synodic-sidereal difference) during both apparitions. The computed 1950 ecliptic coordinates of the pole are: longitude = 56°, latitude = −26°. This is the “north” pole with respect to right-handed (counter-clockwise) rotation. The formal uncertainty of the solution for the pole position is less than 10°, but realistically may be several times that, or even completely wrong. The sidereal period of rotation asscociated with this pole solution is 3.065436 ± 0.000012 hr.  相似文献

Based on an analysis of the VLBI observations performed in 1985?C2010 within the framework of international geodetic programs on global networks of stations, we have obtained statistically significant corrections to the parameters of lunisolar tides??the nominal complex Love/Shida numbers. The new integral (frequency-independent) values of these parameters (in 10?4) are h (0) = (6113 ± 3) ? (33 ± 2)i, l (0) = (843 ± 1) ? (5 ± 2)i for a total tide; h (0) = (6106 ± 3) ? (10 ± 6)i, l (0) = (843 ± 1) ? (8 ± 1)i for diurnal tides; and h (0) = (6106 ± 3) ? (24 ± 3)i, l (0) = (843 ± 1) + (3 ± 1)i for semi-diurnal tides. We have detected a new effect of asymmetry in the horizontal tidal displacements in the direction of tectonic motions for 50 VLBI stations. We have determined upper limits for the influence of the frequency-dependent resonance effects whose estimation accuracy is limited by an abundance of close frequencies in their harmonic expansion. The influence of the transfer function for tides on the VLBI observations has turned out to be lower than the measurement accuracy. In future, positional GPS/GLONASS measurements are planned to be used to refine the resonance effects and the transfer function.  相似文献

Abstract Al-Jimshan is a highly weathered 11.45 kg chondrite that was found in 1955 in the Rub' al Khali Desert, Saudi Arabia (20*42′N, 52*50E) about 240 km south-east of the town of al-Hadidah. The main mass is now at UCLA. Based on texture and mineral composition (olivine Fa17.7 ± 0.4; pyroxene Fs15.7 ± 1.0 Wo13 ± 0.4), al-Jimshan is classified as an H4 chondrite of shock stage S2. The Bir-Hadi and ad-Dahbubah H chondrites, which also were found in the Rub'al Khali (Holm, 1962), are probably not paired with al-Jimshan. They are classified as H5, shock stage S3 (Fa18.1 ± 0.5, n = 10; Fs16.0 ± 0.6, Wo1.1 ± 0.4, n = 9) and H5, shock stage S2 (Fa17.9 ± 0.3, n = 10; FS15.5 ± 0.2 Wo1.0 ± 0.4, n = 10), respectively.  相似文献

The General Catalogue of Photoelectric Astrolabe Stars (GCPA) based on the Chinese photoelectric astrolabe system is described. It is a combined system of right ascension and declination synthesized from four primitive star catalogues' obtained with the photoelectric astrolabe. Four other primitive catalogues obtained with the Danjon astrolabe are reduced to the combined system and added to it. GCPA contains 1579 stars, 1541 Δα values and 1131 Δδ values. The overall average accuracy is ±3.3 ms in Δα, and ±0″.058 in Δδ; for the FK4 stars, the corresponding values are ±2.3 ms and ±0″.042. FK4 stars observed by two or more instruments gave 485 Δα values and 349 Δδ values, with external accuracies ±3.8 ms and ±0″.041. Corrections to the FK4 system as determined by GCPA are given and a comparison with the relevant catalogues is presented.  相似文献

Time-resolved charge-coupled device photometry of Comet p/Arend-Rigaux shows a cyclic variation in cometary brightness consistent with the periods T1 = 574 ± 5 min (9.58 ± 0.08 hr) and T2 = 407 ± 5 min (6.78 ± 0.08 hr). The variation has a 30% range and is confined to the inner coma. The relative photometric stability of the outer coma indicates that the variations in the inner coma are associated with the nucleus and probably result from its rotation at, or at a multiple of, one of the above periods.  相似文献

It is shown that the lists of Shakhbazian Compact Galaxy Groups (SCGGs) are not complete. The number of the detected groups in the strip between b = ±30° and b = ±20° is by four to five times smaller than expected. The most probable reason is that during the search for SCGGs it was hard to distinguish images of compact galaxies from that of stars on the POSS prints in dense areas of the sky at lower galactic latitudes. There is some deficit of the detected groups between 60° and 40° of the north galactic latitudes. The surface density of SCGGs in the southern galactic hemisphere between b = −50° and b = −30° is by about three times less than it is expected. Obviously, the southern sky has not been searched properly. The list of Hickson's groups is complete down to galactic latitude ±30°. However, some excess of HCGs is found in the southern hemisphere, where the surface density of the found groups is by about two times higher than that of in the northern hemisphere.  相似文献

Broad-band radiometry with a spatial resolution of 5 arc sec is presented of Saturn and its rings. The brightness temperature of the B ring is 96 ± 3°K at 20 μm and 91 ± 3°K at 11 μm. These values constrain the bolometric Bond albedo of the ring particles to be less than 0.6, thus requiring a phase integral of less than unity. From differences in the thermal emission of the ansae, I suggest that the leading side of the particles has higher albedo than the trailing side. A measured drop in temperature of the B ring following eclipse of 2.0 ± 0.5°K is consistent with radii for the ring particles of 2 cm or larger.  相似文献

An investigation of the stability of the transfer function of the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope Interferometer has been carried out through observations of Fomalhaut, which was observed over a range in hour angle from 21:50–05:24 on 20 October 2002. No significant variation in the transfer function was found for the zenith angle range 5°–70°. The projected baseline varied between 139.7 m and 49.8 m during the observations and, as an integral part of the determination of the transfer function, a new accurate limb‐darkened angular diameter for Fomalhaut of 2.109 ± 0.013 mas has been established. This has led to improved values for the emergent flux = (3.43 ± 0.10)×108 Wm−2, effective temperature = 8819 ± 67 K and radius = (1.213 ± 0.011)×109 m (R/R = 1.744 ± 0.016). The luminosity has been found to be (6.34 ± 0.20)×1027 W (L/L = 16.5 ± 0.5). (© 2004 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The statistical parallax technique is applied to a sample of 262 RRab Lyrae variables with published photoelectric photometry, metallicities, and radial velocities and with measured absolute proper motions. Hipparcos, PPM, NPM, and the Four-Million Star Catalog (Volchkov et al. 1992) were used as the sources of proper motions; the proper motions from the last three catalogs were reduced to the Hipparcos system. We determine parameters of the velocity distribution for halo [(U 0, V 0, W 0) = (?9±12, ?214 ±10, ? 10, ?16±7) km s ?1 and (σ U , σ V , σ W ) = (164±11, 105±7, 95±7) km s ?1] and thick-disk [(U 0, V 0, W 0) = (?16±8, ?41±7, ?18±5) km s ?1], and [(σ U , σ V , σ W ) = (53±9, 42±8, 26±5) km s ?1] RR Lyrae, as well as the intensity-averaged absolute magnitude for RR Lyrae of these populations: 〈M V 〉 = 0.77 ± 0.10 and 〈M V 〉 = +1.11 ± 0.25 for the halo and thickdisk objects, respectively. The metallicity dependence of the absolute magnitude of RR Lyrae is analyzed (〈M V 〉 = (0.76 ± 0.12) + (0.26 ± 0.26) · ([Fe/H]+1.6)=1.17+0.26 · [Fe/H]). Our results are in satisfactory agreement with the ?M V ?(RR)?[Fe/H]relation from Carney et al. (1992) (〈M V 〉(RR)=1.01+0.15·[Fe/H]) obtained by Baade-Wesselink's method. They provide evidence for a short distance scale: the LMC distance modulus and the distance to the Galactic center are 18.22±0.11 and 7.4±0.5 kpc, respectively. The zero point of the distance scale and the kinematic parameters of the RR Lyrae populations are shown to be virtually independent of the source of absolute proper motions used and of whether they are reduced to the Hipparcos system or not.  相似文献

During the 1972 apparition of Jupiter, we carried out a patrol of the (3,0) S(1) and (4,0) S(1) quadrupole lines of molecular hydrogen in the equatorial region and in bands bounded by ±15 and ±49° zenographic latitude from the McDonald and Table Mountain Observatories. At the center of the Jovian disk, we found evidence of temporal variability of both lines over the duration of our observing period. We employ a technique which takes into account all radiative transfer processes in an inhomogeneous model of Jupiter's atmosphere, and use it to derive the effective level of formation of the spectral lines and the relative abundance of hydrogen. In this way, we are able to correlate measured changes in the equivalent widths of the hydrogen lines with variations in cloud structure. The effective pressure level at which the (4,0) S(1) line is formed varies in the range 2 ± 0.5 to 1.3 ± 0.2 atm, while for the (3,0) S(1) line, the pressure varies between 1.6 ± 0.5 and 1 ± 0.4 atm. If these variations are interpreted in terms of changes in elevation of the top of a dense lower cloud deck, the elevation apparently varied with an amplitude of 25 km during the observational period.Spatial variations in the strengths of both lines were also found. Both lines are weaker at the east limb than at the center of the disk (15–19%) while the variations toward the west limb are less pronounced (5%). Similar center-to-limb variations were found in the latitude bands bounded by ±15 and ±49°, although the lines were stronger in the northern component at the time of the observations.  相似文献

The sky‐projected orientation (position angle) of the axis (line of maximum density or maximum brightness) of the long time‐known, linear structure (LS) in the sunward hemisphere of the coma of Comet 19P/Borrelly is measured on 45 photographs taken by different observers under different projection conditions and covering three consecutive apparitions (1994, 2001, and 2008) for a total time interval of 5174 days. The analysis of the results by a tomographic approach yields an LS axis constantly oriented towards a fixed point in the space, at Right Ascension 214°.4 ± 0°.5 and Declination –7°.0 ± 0°.5 (J2000), corresponding to an obliquity of 103°.5 ± 1° and an orbital longitude of 147°.2 ± 1°, throughout the relevant interval. Such coordinates are close to the ones found by other authors for the spatial orientation of the nucleus spin axis during the apparitions of 1994 and 2001. In the hypothesis of an LS orientation aligned with the nucleus spin axis, the new results confirm the previous ones and show that this orientation remained unchanged during the subsequent 2008 apparition (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We present 26 lightcurves of 16 Psyche from 1975 and 1976. The synodic period during this apparition was 4h.1958. Combining photometric data from this opposition with those from previous apparitions allowed us to derive a mean phase coefficient in V of 0.026 ± 0.002 mag/deg and to establish that Psyche's absolute V0 magnitude and rotational amplitude vary with aspect; at 90° aspect, V0(1, 0) = 6.27 ± 0.05 and the lightcurve amplitude is 0.30 mag, while at 0° or 180° aspect, V0(1, 0) = 6.02 ± 0.02 and the amplitude is ?0.03 mag. This behavior is accounted for if, to first order, Psyche's shape is that of a triaxial ellipsoid with axial ratios near 5:4:3. Colors at zero phase are U-B = 0.26 ± 0.01 and B-V = 0.71 ± 0.01. Color phase coefficients are <0.001 mag/deg in U-B and 0.0010 ± 0.0004 mag/deg in B-V.  相似文献

The three-dimensional Ogorodnikov-Milne model was used to investigate the local velocity field on the basis of the tangential velocities of more than 53 000 red giants which were identified as most probable Red Clump members from the Tycho-2 catalog. Galactic rotation parameters were determined for two star groups at the galactic latitudes |b| < 30° and |b| ≥ 30°. The galactic rotation of the first star group was found to have some peculiarities characterized by the statistically significant parameters of contraction (K = ?6.3 ± 1.1 km s?1 kpc?1) and phase shift (? = 6.9° ± 0.6°) in the Ogorodnikov-Miln model. The vertex deflection and the semiaxes of peculiar velocity ellipsoid were determined for both star groups together with the components of the Sun’s motion with respect to these groups. The greatest distinction between two groups manifests itself in the vertex deflection, which is equal to 5.9° ± 0.7° at |b| < 30° and 0.1° ± 0.6° at |b| ≥ 30°.  相似文献

During the last 40 years, the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory and five other observatories around the world have carried out more than 18 500 (daily) measurements of the mean magnetic field (MMF) of the Sun as a star. The main MMF periodicity is due to the equatorial rotation of the Sun with a synodic period of 26.92 ± 0.02 day (it was stable for decades, but “bifurcated” in the 23rd cycle). It is shown that (a) the average sidereal period of the equator, 25.122 ± 0.010 day, is in close resonant relations with orbital and axial rotations of Mercury (5: 2 and 5: 3, respectively); (b) the most powerful long period, 1.036 ± 0.007 years, is suspiciously close to the orbital period of the Earth and (c) coincides with the average synodic period of revolution of giant planets 1.036 ± 0.020 years; and (d) MMF reveals a significant period of 1.58 ± 0.02 years, which agrees, within errors, with the synodic period of Venus (1.60 years), and (e) a significant periodicity of 19.8 ± 2.5 years probably related to the 22-year magnetic cycle of the Sun. The nature of all these periodicities is mysterious. The assumption is made that the resonances originated at the early stages of formation of the Solar System, and their existence in the modern epoch is due to the specific features of the structure and dynamics of the central core of our star. It is found that the MMF level averaged over 40 years is practically zero, ?0.018 ± 0.015 G. The anomalous behavior of the 23rd cycle is pointed out; this is expressed in (1) violation of the Gnevyshev-Ohl rule for the pair of cycles 22–23, (2) accelerated rotation of the solar equator by 1.2%, and (3) considerable increase in the cycle duration (not smaller than 11.5 years), as compared to the average cycle duration in the 20th century (11.5 years). The problem of the so called magnetic “monopole” of the Sun is briefly discussed.  相似文献

We present preliminary results of the narrow-band CN observations of comet 8P/Tuttle from early January 2008, realized as part of a project consisting of near-simultaneous spectroscopic monitoring of HCN at millimeter-wavelengths and optical imaging of the coma. The mean-image subtraction method revealed low-contrast CN envelopes. Using the image cross-correlation technique we measured the projected velocity of these shells. For the sunward part we found it to be equal to 0.96 ± 0.03 km s?1 on January 4 and 1.10 ± 0.01 km s?1 on January 9, whereas the anti-sunward part reached 0.73 ± 0.05 and 0.80 ± 0.02 km s?1, respectively. The periodicity of gas emission was investigated using a repeatability of the shells, their kinematics, and an aperture photometry of the near nucleus region. We found a period of 5.70 ± 0.07 h (along with multiples), consistent with previous findings by other authors. A toy Monte Carlo model was implemented to reproduce the time-series of the CN images. We show that emission of HCN into a relatively wide cone by a single active region on a rotating nucleus is the most probable scenario.  相似文献
