An ordered pair (e,f) of idempotents of a regular semigroup is called a skew pair if ef is not idempotent whereas fe is idempotent. Previously [1] we have established that there are four distinct types of skew pairs of idempotents. We have also described (as quotient semigroups of certain regular Rees matrix semigroups [2]) the structure of the smallest regular semigroups that contain precisely one skew pair of each of the four types, there being to within isomorphism ten such semigroups. These we call the derived Rees matrix semigroups. In the particular case of full transformation semigroups we proved in [3] that TX contains all four skew pairs of idempotents if and only if |X| ≥ 6. Here we prove that TX contains all ten derived Rees matrix semigroups if and only if |X| ≥ 7.  相似文献

本文在正则半群上引入弱中间幂等元和拟中间幂等元,着重探讨了这两类幂等元的性质特征.构造了若干具有弱(拟)中间幂等元的正则半群,确定了弱中间幂等元和拟中间幂等元之间的关系,给出了弱中间幂等元和拟中间幂等元各自的等价判定,利用拟中间幂等元刻画了纯正半群.最后,得到了构造具有拟中间幂等元的正则半群的一般途径,并在此基础上进一步给出了判定正则半群是否具有乘逆断面的方法.  相似文献

We study some syntactic properties of languages obtained from rational languages through counting operations. These counting operations use the congruences-threshold p, modulo n—on the set of integers. We show that in some cases they preserve the properties of syntactic monoids: the structure of idempotent and commutative monoids is not modified, aperiodic monoids with central idempotents keep their central idempotents and their regular D-classes still are groups although not trivial, aperiodic left (right) nilsimple semigroups still have regular R (L)-classes which are (non trivial) groups. If possible results are expressed in terms of varieties of semigroups or monoids.  相似文献

A semigroup is regular if it contains at least one idempotent in each ?-class and in each ?-class. A regular semigroup is inverse if it satisfies either of the following equivalent conditions: (i) there is a unique idempotent in each ?-class and in each ?-class, or (ii) the idempotents commute. Analogously, a semigroup is abundant if it contains at least one idempotent in each ?*-class and in each ?*-class. An abundant semigroup is adequate if its idempotents commute. In adequate semigroups, there is a unique idempotent in each ?* and ?*-class. M. Kambites raised the question of the converse: in a finite abundant semigroup such that there is a unique idempotent in each ?* and ?*-class, must the idempotents commute? In this paper we study the congruences of *-regular semigroups, involution semigroups in which every element is p-related to a projection (an idempotent fixed by the involution). The class of *-regular semigroups was introduced by Drazin in 1979, as the involutorial counterpart of regular semigroups. In the standard approach to *-regular semigroup congruences, one ,starts with idempotents, i.e. with traces and kernels in the underlying regular semigroup, builds congruences of that semigroup, and filters those congruences which preserve the involution. Our approach, however, is more evenhanded with respect to the fundamental operations of *-regular semigroups. We show that idempotents can be replaced by projections when one passes from regular to *-regular semigroup congruences. Following the trace-kernel balanced view of Pastijn and Petrich, we prove that an appropriate equivalence on the set of projections (the *-trace) and the set of all elements equivalent to projections (the *-kernel) fully suffice to reconstruct an (involution-preserving) congruence of a *-regular semigroup. Also, we obtain some conclusions about the lattice of congruences of a *-regular semigroup. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

For every semigroup of finite exponent whose chains of idempotents are uniformly bounded we construct an identity which holds on this semigroup but does not hold on the variety of all idempotent semigroups. This shows that the variety of all idempotent semigroups E is not contained in any finitely generated variety of semigroups. Since E is locally finite and each proper subvariety of E is finitely generated [1, 3, 4], the variety of all idempotent semigroups is a minimal example of an inherently non-finitely generated variety.  相似文献

We study the maximal subgroups of free idempotent generated semigroups on a biordered set by topological methods. These subgroups are realized as the fundamental groups of a number of 2-complexes naturally associated to the biorder structure of the set of idempotents. We use this to construct the first example of a free idempotent generated semigroup containing a non-free subgroup.  相似文献

Abstract

A semigroup S is called E-inversive if for every a ∈ S there is an x ∈ S such that ax is idempotent. The purpose of this paper is the investigation of E-inversive semigroups and semigroups whose idempotents form a subsemigroup. Basic properties are analysed and, in particular, semigroups whose idempotents form a semilattice or a rectangular band are considered. To provide examples and characterizations, the construction methods of generalized Rees matrix semigroups and semidirect products are employed.  相似文献

It is shown that, within the class of Rees-Sushkevich varieties that are generated by completely (0-) simple semigroups over groups of exponent dividing n, there is a hierarchy of varieties determined by the lengths of the products of idempotents that will, if they fall into a group ℋ-class, be idempotent. Moreover, the lattice of varieties generated by completely (0-) simple semigroups over groups of exponent dividing n, with the property that all products of idempotents that fall into group ℋ-classes are idempotent, is shown to be isomorphic to the direct product of the lattice of varieties of groups with exponent dividing n and the lattice of exact subvarieties of a variety generated by a certain five element completely 0-simple semigroup.  相似文献

A subgroup H of a regular semigroup S is said to be an associate subgroup of S if for every s ∈ S, there is a unique associate of s in H. An idempotent z of S is said to be medial if czc = c, for every c product of idempotents of S. Blyth and Martins established a structure theorem for semigroups with an associate subgroup whose identity is a medial idempotent, in terms of an idempotent generated semigroup, a group and a single homomorphism. Here, we construct a system of axioms which characterize these semigroups in terms of a unary operation satisfying those axioms. As a generalization of this class of semigroups, we characterize regular semigroups S having a subgroup which is a transversal of a congruence on S.  相似文献

McAlister proved that a necessary and sufficient condition for a regular semigroup S to be locally inverse is that it can be embedded as a quasi-ideal in a semigroup T which satisfies the following two conditions: (1) T = TeT, for some idempotent e; and (2) eTe is inverse. A semigroup is said to be power centralized if for every pair of elements x and y there exists a power of x commuting with y. The structure of power centralized groups and semigroups is investigated. In particular, we characterize 0-simple power centralized semigroups and describe subdirectly irreducible power centralized semigroups. Generalizing a property of regular resp. finite semigroups a semigroup S is called E-(0-) inversive if for every a ∈ S4(a ≠ 0) there exists x ∈ S such that ax (≠ 0) is an idempotent. Several characterizations are given allowing to identify the (completely, resp. eventually) regular semigroups in this class. The case that for every a ∈ S4(≠ 0) there exist x,y ∈ S such that ax = ya(≠ 0) is an idempotent, is dealt with also. Ideal extensions of E- (0-)inversive semigroups are studied discribing in particular retract extensions of completely simple semigroups.
