Methods of internal-category theory are applied to show that the split epimorphisms in a category C are exactly the morphisms which are effective for descent with respect to any fibration over C (or to any C-indexed category). In the same context, composition-cancellation rules for effective descent morphisms are established and being applied to (suitably defined) locally-split epimorphisms.  相似文献

The paper deals with (effective) descent morphisms for subfibrations X of the basic fibration Top/X, for topological spaces X and classes of continuous functions stable under pullback. For a category with pullbacks, we prove the stability under pullback of effective -descent morphisms for a class satisfying some suitable conditions. This plays a rôle in relating effective -descent to effective global-descent and enables us to obtain a criterion for effective étale-descent. We also show that the inclusion of the class of effective global-descent maps in the class surjective effective étale-descent is strict.Partial financial support by Centro de Matemática da Universidade de Coimbra is gratefully acknowledged.  相似文献

We consider a continuous operator T: EX where E is a Banach lattice and X is a Banach space. We characterize the b-weak compactness of T in terms of its mapping properties.  相似文献

In [7], Cross showed that the spectrum of a linear relation T on a normed space satisfies the spectral mapping theorem. In this paper, we extend the notion of essential ascent and descent for an operator acting on a vector space to linear relations acting on Banach spaces. We focus to define and study the descent, essential descent, ascent and essential ascent spectrum of a linear relation everywhere defined on a Banach space X. In particular, we show that the corresponding spectrum satisfy the polynomial version of the spectral mapping theorem.  相似文献

Let Xbe a category with a given(E,M)-factorization structure for morphisms, M Mono X. In general, an arbitrary endofunctor T of X fails badly to preserve the E-class. If T carries a monad structure, then T(E) E implies that the corresponding category of Eilenberg–Moore-algebras admits (E,M)-factorizations and vice versa. In order to get T as close as possible to this nice algebraic behaviour, a couniversal modification T T with (E) E is constructed in two different ways using mild and natural assumptions on E and M, respectively. T inherits its monad structure from T. In case of T = U F, F U, the Eilenberg–Moore-category of T contains a universal (E,M-algebraic hull (completion) of U [2, 3]. There are further applications to varietal hulls [4] and to function spaces.  相似文献

S. Dolecki, G. Greco and A. Lechicki call a space X consonant if the co-compact topology and the upper Kuratowski topology on the set of closed subsets of X coincide. We call a space X hyperconsonant if Fell's topology and the (Kuratowski) convergence topology coincide. Recently, we proved that a first countable, locally paracompact, T 3-space is hyperconsonant if and only if the space possesses at most one point without a compact neighbourhood, extending the same result of D. Fremlin obtained for metrizable spaces. In this paper, we pursue the study of hyperconsonance within the framework of point spaces (countable T 1-spaces with exactly one accumulation point) and we compare consonance and hyperconsonance in such spaces. In particular, we answer a question of T. Nogura and D. Shakhmatov: does there exist a nonconsonant point space? We provide a Fréchet, -point space which is not consonant. Moreover, this example proves that the consonance is not preserved by continuous closed compact-covering maps of separable complete metrizable spaces onto Hausdorff spaces.  相似文献

The relationship between the Wijsman topology and (proximal) hit-and-miss topologies is studied in the realm of quasi-metric spaces. We establish the equivalence between these hypertopologies in terms of Urysohn families of sets. Our results generalize well-known theorems and provide easier proofs. In particular, we prove that for a quasi-pseudo-metrizable space (X,T) the Vietoris topology on the set P 0(X) of all nonempty subsets of X is the supremum of all Wijsman topologies associated with quasi-pseudo-metrics compatible with T. We also show that for a quasi-pseudo-metric space (X,d) the Hausdorff extended quasi-pseudo-metric is compatible with the Wijsman topology on P 0(X) if and only if d –1 is hereditarily precompact.  相似文献

For a given bi-continuous semigroup (T(t)) t⩾0 on a Banach space X we define its adjoint on an appropriate closed subspace X° of the norm dual X′. Under some abstract conditions this adjoint semigroup is again bi-continuous with respect to the weak topology σ(X°,X). We give the following application: For Ω a Polish space we consider operator semigroups on the space Cb(Ω) of bounded, continuous functions (endowed with the compact-open topology) and on the space M(Ω) of bounded Baire measures (endowed with the weak*-topology). We show that bi-continuous semigroups on M(Ω) are precisely those that are adjoints of bi-continuous semigroups on Cb(Ω). We also prove that the class of bi-continuous semigroups on Cb(ω) with respect to the compact-open topology coincides with the class of equicontinuous semigroups with respect to the strict topology. In general, if is not a Polish space this is not the case.  相似文献

Let R be an associative ring with 1 and let T be a hereditary torsion theory in the category of left R-modules. In defining the localizatio n of R respect to x, the concept of T-injective module arises (see [5] , [11]) . We can consider the family E T of all short exact sequences of left R-modules respect to which every T-injective left R-module is injective . E T proper class in the sense defined in [ 9] . In this paper we characterize proper classe s which are of the form E T for some hereditary torsion theory x. On the other hand, we give some conditions on x, which imply that E T has enough projectives , and we show an example where E T does not have enough projectives.  相似文献

Let T be a linear operator on the space of all m×n matrices over any field. we prove that if T maps rank-2 matrices to rank-2 matrices then there exist nonsingular matrices U and V such that either T(X)=UXV for all matrices X, or m=n and T(X)=UXtV for all matrices X where Xt denotes the transpose of X.  相似文献

Given separable Banach spaces X, Y, Z and a bounded linear operator T:XY, then T is said to preserve a copy of Z provided that there exists a closed linear subspace E of X isomorphic to Z and such that the restriction of T to E is an into isomorphism. It is proved that every operator on C([0,1]) which preserves a copy of an asymptotic ℓ1 space also preserves a copy of C([0,1]).  相似文献

We continue here the line of investigation begun in [7], where we showed that on every Banach spaceX=l 1W (whereW is separable) there is an operatorT with no nontrivial invariant subspaces. Here, we work on the same class of Banach spaces, and produce operators which not only have no invariant subspaces, but are also hypercyclic. This means that for every nonzero vectorx inX, the translatesT r x (r=1, 2, 3,...) are dense inX. This is an interesting result even if stated in a form which disregards the linearity ofT: it tells us that there is a continuous map ofX{0\{ into itself such that the orbit {T rx :r≧0{ of anyx teX \{0\{ is dense inX \{0\{. The methods used to construct the new operatorT are similar to those in [7], but we need to have somewhat greater complexity in order to obtain a hypercyclic operator.  相似文献

It is proved that C(K,E) (the space of all continuous functions on a Hausdorff compact space K taking values in a Banach space E) admits an equivalent locally uniformly rotund norm if C(K) and E do so. Moreover, if the equivalent LUR norms on C(K) and E are lower semicontinuous with respect to some weak topologies, the LUR norm on C(K,E) can be chosen to be lower semicontinuous with respect to an appropriate weak topology. As a consequence we prove that if X and Y are two Hausdorff compacta and C(X), C(Y) admit equivalent (pointwise lower semicontinuous) LUR norms, then so does C(X×Y).  相似文献

In this paper we consider ultrametric Banach modules over commutative ultrametric Banach algebras with unit. We study the descent problem along a morphism f: R S of such algebras and show that descent morphisms coincide with weak retracts. We give further conditions for having an effective descent morphism or for having a Morita equivalence between the corresponding categories of ultrametric Banach modules.  相似文献
