Objective

To analyse the influence of belly dance on the quality of life, fatigue, and depressive symptoms in women with breast cancer.

Methods

Pilot study, with a design of non-randomised clinical trial study, analysing 19 women, with 8 allocated in the experimental group and 11 in the control group. The experimental group underwent 12 weeks of belly dance classes, with a frequency of twice a week and duration of 60 min for each lesson. Data collection was made through the use of questionnaires containing general information, quality of life (EORTC QLQ-BR23), fatigue (Piper Fatigue Scale) and depressive symptoms (BECK's Depression Inventory) applied on baseline and after intervention.

Results

The experimental group presented significant improvements after the intervention, with an increase in scores of the functional scale (p = 0.002): body image (p = 0.037) and sexual function (p = 0.027); and a decrease in scores of the symptomatic scale (p = 0.001): systemic therapy side effects (p = 0.005) and arm symptoms (p = 0.001) of quality of life, as well the decrease of fatigue (p = 0.036) and depressive symptoms (p = 0.002). No significant differences were observed in clinical and demographic information at baseline between the experimental and control groups. Also, there was no significant difference on quality of life, fatigue, and depressive symptoms between the two groups.

Conclusion

Belly dance can be a viable form of physical activity for women with breast cancer. It was associated with benefits for quality of life, fatigue, and depressive symptoms. Even though there were significant pre–post treatment differences, there was no significance difference between the experimental and control group; and therefore, treatment could have been due to natural history.  相似文献

ObjectivePrevious few studies have shown that resistin is significantly elevated in breast cancer (BC) patients. Therefore, we investigated whether serum resistin could be used as a potential diagnostic and prognostic tool for postmenopausal BC (PBC), taking into account clinicopathological features, serum tumor markers, anthropometric, metabolic, and, for the first time, inflammatory parameters.MethodsSerum resistin, tumor markers (CA 15–3 and CEA), metabolic, anthropometric and inflammatory parameters (TNF-α, IL-6, hsCRP) were determined in 103 postmenopausal women with incident, pathologically confirmed, invasive BC, 103 controls matched on age and time of diagnosis, and 51 patients with benign breast lesions (BBL).ResultsMean serum resistin was significantly higher in cases than in controls and patients with BBL (p < 0.001). In patients, resistin was significantly associated with tumor and inflammatory markers, cancer stage, tumor size, grade and lymph node invasion but not with anthropometric, metabolic parameters and hormone receptor status. Multivariable regression analysis revealed that serum IL-6 (p = 0.02) and cancer stage (p = 0.048) were the strongest determinants of serum resistin in cases adjusting for demographic, metabolic and clinicopathological features. Although resistin's diagnostic performance was low based on ROC curve analysis [0.72, 95% CI: 0.64–0.79], it could, however, represent a BC biomarker reflecting advanced disease stage and inflammatory state.ConclusionFurther prospective and longitudinal studies are needed to evaluate whether serum resistin could be used as a prognostic tool in BC monitoring and management. More research is essential to elucidate resistin's ontological role in the association between obesity, representing a chronic low-grade subclinical inflammation, and PBC.  相似文献

Goal of work

Aim of the present observational study is to focus on health-related quality of life (HRQL), mood and everyday life of breast cancer affected women disease-free 6 months after mastectomy, paying particular attention to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework contribution.

Materials and methods

Sixty-five breast cancer-affected women disease-free 6 months after mastectomy hospitalized for reconstructive surgery (mean age 46.3?±?7.3) were enrolled. Their depressive symptoms (Beck Depression Inventory—BDI-II), HRQL, and every day life functioning/barriers and facilitators (ICF) were assessed.

Results

At the BDI-II, 6 patients (9.2 %) reported mild depression and 6 (9.2 %) severe depression; when the subscales were considered, 7 (10.8%) resulted depressed at the somatic–affective factor and 16 (24.6 %) at the cognitive factor. Compared to normative data no differences emerged at the HRQL Physical Component Summary (46.4?±?9.3 vs 49.1?±?10.1), whereas patients reported lower scores at the Mental HRQL Component Summary (45.9?±?10.1 vs 51.5?±?9.1; p?=?0.00001 t?=??4.3). As for the activity and participation domain, 11 of the 42 categories investigated were compromised in at least 20% of the sample: lifting and carrying objects (d430), acquisition of goods and services (d620), doing housework (d640), remunerative employment (d850), and many categories relating to interpersonal relationships; moreover the caregiver seems to be perceived as an important and positive modulator of disability.

Conclusions

The addition of the ICF evaluation to the usual psychological assessment gives a more complete picture, enabling a broader perspective of the psychological–clinical implications. Mainly, the women that we have evaluated continue to function in their everyday lives, thanks in part to their ability to accept help from their own families. However, they inevitably carry signs of their disease which some translating into problems with interpersonal relationships, depressive thoughts and negative ideation. Only the synergistic use of all these assessment instruments can one truly perceive all the nuances relating to the social and psychological conditions of the assessed patients’ life, overcoming a binomial vision of well-being and ill-being.  相似文献

Lung cancer is one of the most common malignancies in the world and the most threatening cancer to human health. Effective therapies based on non-cytotoxic induction in cell inflammation- and apoptosis-responsive pathways are thought to represent a novel advance in treating lung cancer. However, many studies are still required for effective pharmaceutical to induce cancer cell death. Hyperoside (Hyp) is the chief component of some Chinese herbs with anticancer effect. Here, we investigated the role of hyperoside on the lung cancer cell migration, invasion, inflammation and apoptosis in A549 cells in vitro and xenografts of nude mice in vivo. A549 cells were injected in nude mice for establishing tumors. Our results showed that hyperoside suppressed the proliferation, migration and invasion. Additionally, apoptosis was induced by hyperoside via Bcl-2/Bax-regulated Caspase3 activation, suggesting that hyperoside might inhibit lung cancer progression through apoptotic induction. And also, hyperoside could prevent progression and development of lung cancer through inactivating NF-κB signaling pathway. Subsequently, inflammatory cytokines, including TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β and IL-18, were down-regulated significantly. And animal experiments also illustrated that the tumor volume and weight were reduced after hyperoside administration, which was also through apoptosis induction and prevention of inflammation response by Caspase3 activation and NF-κB inactivation. To our knowledge, it was the first time to evaluate the effects of hyperoside on preventing progression and development of lung cancer in vivo and in vitro to assess the possible therapies of hyperoside as a future approach for preventing lung cancer progression and development.  相似文献

Background: Parkinson’s disease (PD) commonly impairs posture, gait, and cognition. Exercise in the form of aerobic activity as well as exergaming may improve motor ability and cognition in persons with PD. Exergaming and treadmill training can be a practical form of exercise within the home; however, there is minimal research on this combined multimodal intervention for persons with PD. Objective: We investigated the effects of this combined intervention on cognition, balance, and gait in a person with PD through supervised lab sessions augmented by home-based sessions. Methods: This case study utilized an ABA single subject experimental design with 4 weeks of pre-intervention, followed by 8 weeks of intervention, and 4 weeks of post-intervention. The intervention consisted of treadmill walking and Xbox Kinect exergaming, 30 minutes each, performed unsupervised at home and at supervised lab sessions. The two standard deviation band method was used to determine significance. Results: MiniBEST test, 2-minute walk distance, sway area, endurance test, and a few parameters of gait initiation and gait improved significantly throughout the intervention period. Only a few measures sustained the improvement 4 weeks after completion of intervention. Conclusion: Eight weeks of treadmill and exergaming intervention with a person with PD improved static and dynamic postural control measures, but not gait, cognition, endurance, and clinical measures of balance. Longer and more intense multimodal intervention may be warranted.  相似文献

Objectives:The objective of this study was to determine the concordance of promoter methylation of stratifin, ERα and PR in tumor and circulating DNA in breast cancer patients and their association with clinicopathological parameters and disease prognosis.Design and methods:Methylation specific PCR were carried out to investigate the promoter methylation status of stratifin, ERα and PR in tumor and circulating DNA in 100 breast cancer patients in a prospective study. The effect of promoter methylation on protein expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry. Results:Significant association was observed between promoter methylation of stratifin in tumors (61%) and paired sera (56%) (r = 0.78; p  0.001). Loss of stratifin expression was observed in 47% tumors and was associated with poor overall survival (p = 0.05). Significant correlation was observed between methylation status of ERα with PRB (p < 0.0001, OR = 20.8, 95% CI = 7.4–58.0) and stratifin (p = 0.003, OR = 2.0, 95% CI = 0.8–4.4).Conclusion:This study underscores the potential utility of serum DNA methylation of these genes as surrogate for tumor DNA methylation as a promising tool for cancer diagnosis.  相似文献

Background

The study of intrapsychic modalities can help to understand the association between depression and breast cancer patients and what kind of intervention can be planned. There is evidence that breast cancer is associated with the development of depression. The study of intrapsychic modalities may explain this association. Therefore, we aimed at investigating the intrapsychic and interpersonal processes of the structure of personality, anxiety, and depression of postmenopause breast cancer women.

Methods

All participants (n?=?63) underwent the following tests: SASB questionnaire (Structural Analysis of Interpersonal Behavior), describing intrapsychic and interpersonal processes, validated on the basis of DSMIV, and the CDQ and ASQ questionnaires describing depression and anxiety. We compared two groups: breast cancer (n?=?63) and a healthy control group of women without cancer (n?=?83).

Results

Patients with breast cancer presented medium to high levels of anxiety and depression and intrapsychic level showed that they had less autonomy in their choices with low acceptance of their own feelings and tendency to be depressed compared to the control group (Cl 1 autonomy F?=?10.21, p?<?0.05, Cl 2 autonomy and love F?=?13.01, p?<?0.001, Cl 3 love F?=?10.50, p?<?0.01, Cl 5 control F?=?6.44, p?<?0.05, Cl 6 control and hate F?=?4.49, p?<?0.05, ASQ F?=?6.07, p?<?0.05, and CDQ F?=?6.24, p?<?0.05).

Conclusions

Intrapsychic characteristics such as tendency to depression, inability to being in contact with their own feelings, may be linked to difficulties in facing treatment and their condition of illness. Knowledge of these modalities could allow to plan a psychotherapeutic and multidisciplinary intervention aimed at facing the different phases of medical treatment.  相似文献

PurposeThis review aimed to investigate the effects of cryotherapy on the functional capacity parameters of athletes, such as muscular strength, flexibility, neuromuscular control, and balance.MethodsA computerized search of EBSCO Host databases, Proquest, Medline, SportDiscus, CinahlPlus, Health Source Nursing/Academic Edition, Academic Search Complete, and GoogleScholar databases was performed to identify clinical trials with a focus on cryotherapy applications in sport. Thekeywords used were “cryotherapy,” “sports,”“strength,”“flexibility,” and “proprioception.”Study selectionRandomized control trials and randomized crossover studies of healthy athletes were included in this review. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed by the validation criteria given by Furlan et al (2009).ResultsA total of 50 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and randomized crossover studies met the above criteria and were included in the final analysis. The studies available indicate that there is no strong research evidence to suggest that cryotherapy can definitely influence joint strength and neuromuscular control. The only positive effect of cryotherapy appears to be an improvement in joint flexibility.ConclusionsLimited and equivocal evidence is available to address the effect of cryotherapy on muscular function. The only evidence-based positive impact after the applications of cryotherapy is improved joint flexibility. Despite the extensive use of cryotherapy in sports, further research is needed to document the actual effects of cryotherapy applications on athletes' functional performance and rehabilitation parameters.  相似文献

Prostate cancer is unique in that unlike other solid organ malignancies, only recently has imaging been employed to routinely detect and localize disease. The introduction of transrectal ultrasound was a significant development, transitioning digitally guided prostate biopsies to ultrasound guidance. The arrival of multiparametric MRI has become the next major step, transforming the way Urologist’s diagnose, stage, and treat prostate cancer. Recent recommendations against PSA screening have changed the landscape of urologic oncology with the changing needs being reflected in the initiation of additional robust imaging techniques at different time points in prostate cancer care. The current review aims to provide a clinical perspective in the history, current standard of care, and novel imaging modalities in the evaluation of prostate cancer.  相似文献

BackgroundCaregivers of breast cancer survivors experience various types of burden, which in turn is linked to patients’ physical and psychological status. Family resilience might be able to decrease caregiver burden and facilitate survivors’ individual resilience, and individual resilience might be related to caregiver burden. Nevertheless, these relationships have not yet been confirmed.ObjectiveTo determine the relationships between family resilience, breast cancer survivors’ resilience, and principal caregivers’ caregiver burden, as well as determine whether breast cancer survivors’ individual resilience plays a mediating role in the relationship between family resilience and caregiver burden.DesignCross-sectional study design.SettingThe comprehensive cancer center of a public hospital in Shandong Province, China.ParticipantsThe sample comprised 108 dyads of early-stage breast cancer survivors and their principal caregivers.MethodsThe principal caregivers completed the Shortened Chinese Version of the Family Resilience Assessment Scale and the Chinese Version of the Zarit Caregiver Burden Interview, while the breast cancer survivors completed the 10-item Chinese version of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale and provided their sociodemographic information. The mediating effect of individual resilience was estimated using the bootstrap method via IBM SPSS Amos 21.0.ResultsCaregiver burden was significantly negatively associated with both family resilience and breast cancer survivors' individual resilience (both p < .01). Furthermore, individual resilience mediated the relationship between family resilience and caregiver burden (b = −0.052; 95% confidence interval: −.412, −.036).ConclusionsThe findings suggest that both family resilience and breast cancer survivors’ individual resilience may ease caregiver burden among the principal caregivers of breast cancer survivors, and family resilience tends to promote the survivors’ individual resilience. Therefore, family resilience and survivors’ individual resilience should be enhanced for breast cancer survivors and their family to ease the principal caregivers’ caregiver burden.  相似文献

BackgroundThere is a positive link between thyroid homeostasis and the composition of gut microbiota. A limited number of studies have suggested the efficacy of probiotic products on levothyroxine metabolism and thyroid hormone activity. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of synbiotic supplementation on thyroid function, inflammation markers, and blood pressure in subjects with hypothyroidism.MethodsThis study was conducted as a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 60 patients with hypothyroidism. Participants were randomly recruited into two groups to receive either 500 mg/day of synbiotic (n = 30) or a placebo (n = 30) for 8 weeks.ResultsThyroid-stimulating hormone concentration, levothyroxine dose, and fatigue severity scale score were significantly decreased after the 8-week intervention in the synbiotic group (P < 0.05), while there were no significant differences seen in the placebo group. In addition, FT3 at the end of intervention was significantly higher (P = 0.001) in both groups, although these changes were not significant between the two groups (P = 0.259). Synbiotic supplements led to a significant elevation in serum CRP (P = 0.006), but this increase was not significant between groups (P = 0.699). Moreover, no statistical significance was observed within or between groups in terms of anti-thyroid peroxidase, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure (P > 0.05).ConclusionSynbiotic supplementation among hypothyroid patients for 8 weeks may have beneficial effects on thyroid function. Further studies with larger sample size and longer duration are needed to confirm the current findings.  相似文献

ObjectiveThe current research was conducted to study the association between the SNP309 and del1518 polymorphisms with the breast cancer in the patients with the Kurdish ethnic background from western Iran. Also, a systematic review of the relevant case‐control studies on the MDM2 polymorphisms in the patients with breast cancer was performed.MethodologyTwo mL of peripheral blood was taken from 100 patients with breast cancer and 100 healthy individuals. The frequencies of MDM2 SNP309 and del1518 genotypes and alleles were determined using the PCR‐RFLP and PCR methods, respectively.ResultsThe frequency of the TT, TG, and GG of MDM2‐SNP309 genotypes in the patients was obtained as 23%, 52%, and 25%, and they were equal to 22%, 40%, and 38% in the control group, respectively. Also, considering the MDM2‐del1518 polymorphism, the frequencies of ins/ins, ins/del, and del/del genotypes were equal to 52%, 41%, and 7% in the breast cancer group and they were equal to 62, 30, and 8% in the control group, respectively. Analysis of the results indicated that the GG genotype plays a protective role for the breast cancer in the recessive model (GG vs TT + TG) of SNP309 (χ2 = 3.916, P = .048, and OR = 0.54).ConclusionOur findings revealed that the GG genotype of MDM2‐SNP309 can play a protective role in the breast cancer disease. Also, our systematic review indicated that the SNP309, SNP285, and del1518 of MDM2 gene in different populations mostly did not have a significant association with the risk of breast cancer.  相似文献
