Iris vascular anomalies are rare benign vascular tumors and simulating lesions of the iris stroma. These can be classified into five distinct, clinicopathological entities: iris capillary hemangioma, iris cavernous hemangioma, iris microhemangioma, iris arteriovenous malformation, and iris varix. We have reviewed all reported cases of iris hemangiomas since 1970, as prior cases have been extensively reviewed by Ferry. We also report a case of an iris varix, confirmed by histopathological and immunohistochemical examination. Comparative features of each subtype of vascular anomaly are discussed.  相似文献

Gyrate atrophy (GA) is a rare degenerative, hereditary disease characterized by markedly high serum ornithine levels resulting from the deficiency of ornithine-δ-amino transferase (OAT), a mitochondrial matrix enzyme. Hyperornithinaemia is accompanied by lysinuria and reduced lysine plasma levels in GA. Type I collagen is known to play a role in osteoporosis pathogenesis. Lysine has a role in cross ligament formation of type I collagen, a bone matrix element, and thus, in bone strength. Although the most common complaint in GA is visual problems, the disease may include muscle involvement, as well. Reduced physical activity resulting from muscle involvement and hypolysinemia in GA may lead to osteoporosis. However, there is no data in the literature concerning the relation between GA and osteoporosis. In this report a GA case with early osteoporosis, besides visual deterioration and muscular signs, is reported, and the relation between GA and osteoporosis is emphasized for the first time.  相似文献

Abstract

Bacillus anthracis, the agent of anthrax, is a nonmotile, aerobic gram-positive rod that can form very resistant spores in economically poor environments. Anthrax can manifest as cutaneous, gastrointestinal, or inhalational form. Cutaneous anthrax, caused by direct skin contact, presents with eschar, lymphadenopathy, and a febrile illness. The face and eyelids are most commonly involved in cutaneous anthrax. A 45-year-old man was admitted to our clinic with high fever and swelling of the right eyelid. One day later on re-examination, formation of ulcerous lesions in the right medial canthal region was observed, with general oedema in the upper and lower eyelids. The patient was evaluated as having cutaneous anthrax and medical treatment was continued until the 28th day; he was discharged from the hospital with no loss of vision. He returned for a follow-up examination after 2 months, with decreased visual acuity (<logMAR 1.0). In the fundus examination, optic atrophy was observed. The patient was evaluated as having toxic optic neuropathy.  相似文献
