Patterns exist in many contexts and they can be considered as knowledge sources providing useful information for our decision making. However, sometimes they are not easily identifiable and may not be visible. A visual interface for helping users to recognize patterns is needed. In this paper, we present a computer-based visual language called STVL to visualize spatiotemporal patterns. An event-anchored data set is processed to identify symbols of the language and those symbols are represented in a three-dimensional space consisting of latitude, longitude and time. The user then creates and modifies visual statements using interactive functions, which gives the dynamic syntax of the language. Visual reasoning is carried out in a cycle of interaction and meaningful visual statements are selected as spatiotemporal patterns. In this paper, we also present an application based on the STVL visual language, Pattern Browser, to demonstrate its applicability in information visualization.  相似文献

Due to the growing popularity of Internet of People (IoP) and its impacts on human activity, it has quickly become an important research field and hot subject. Since one purpose of IoP is to connect people to people, personal live video delivery that has been popular recently can also be regarded as an important application of IoP. For improving the video quality of video communication services, Raptor code has been adopted in various broadband communication systems. In this paper, we propose a systematic Raptor code decoder based on the group parameters for a group of encoding symbols. For a Raptor code application that can frequently use one or several fixed source block lengths (i.e., the number of source symbols in a source block), we could produce the corresponding group parameters in advance and use them to decode the received encoding symbols more efficiently. For personal live video delivery scenario based on the IPTV delivery, the simulation results show that our decoder is faster than the conventional Raptor code decoder which is adopted by the DVB and 3GPP specifications.  相似文献

Sketching is a natural mode of communication that can be used to support communication among humans. Recently there has been a growing interest in sketch recognition technologies for facilitating human–computer interaction in a variety of settings, including design, art, and teaching. Automatic sketch recognition is a challenging problem due to the variability in hand drawings, the variation in the order of strokes, and the similarity of symbol classes. In this paper, we focus on a more difficult task, namely the task of classifying sketched symbols before they are fully completed. There are two main challenges in recognizing partially drawn symbols. The first is deciding when a partial drawing contains sufficient information for recognizing it unambiguously among other visually similar classes in the domain. The second challenge is classifying the partial drawings correctly with this partial information. We describe a sketch auto-completion framework that addresses these challenges by learning visual appearances of partial drawings through semi-supervised clustering, followed by a supervised classification step that determines object classes. Our evaluation results show that, despite the inherent ambiguity in classifying partially drawn symbols, we achieve promising auto-completion accuracies for partial drawings. Furthermore, our results for full symbols match/surpass existing methods on full object recognition accuracies reported in the literature. Finally, our design allows real-time symbol classification, making our system applicable in real world applications.  相似文献
