The tool allocation problem in a flexible manufacturing system generally aims at (1) maximizing throughput (2) minimizing machining cost (3) minimizing system imbalance. This paper presents a heuristic approach of loading a set of tools to the different machining centres in the case of variable machining time. Concepts of fuzzy set theory to determine threshold machining time and a potency index (PI) to prioritize parts are used to solve the problem.  相似文献

A flexible manufacturing system is composed of many stations such as a load/unload station, a set of workstations, and a common buffer, that are linked together with a material handling system. Each workstation consists of a limited input buffer, a single machine and a limited output buffer. The material handling system consists of a single cart moving parts in the system according to the process paths required by the parts. A part is blocked when it is moved to a workstation but cannot enter the workstation. The function of the common buffer is to temporarily store blocked parts. A blocked part is treated in accordance with a flexible manufacturing system blocking mechanism. We model the flexible manufacturing system by a closed queueing network with the flexible manufacturing system blocking mechanism and a block-dependent static Markov part routing. An optimal cart moving policy that maximizes the expected system throughput is formulated as an undiscounted semi-Markov decision process. Several properties of the optimization problem are characterized. A loop approach is developed for finding an optimal policy. An example is given to illustrate the methodology, and investigate its convergence.  相似文献

In this paper the machine loading and tool allocation problem of an FMS is discussed, A mathematical model is developed to determine the routings of parts through the machines and to allocate appropriate cutting tools to each machine to achieve minimum overall machining cost. Computational experience with this model is presented under various system and operation parameter values. Computational refinements based on lagrangean relaxation are also discussed.  相似文献

The design of tool management systems for Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) is analysed. An algorithm is given, which allows performance evaluation of an FMS with its tool management system. The procedure applies queueing network theory in order to estimate important performance parameters. Of particular interest is the tool blocking time, which is defined as the time a machine is idle while it waits for the required tools.  相似文献

This paper examines the problem of master scheduling for an FMS in Scotland containing six CNC horizontal boring machines. A multiple criteria approach is used to choose the compatible subset of candidate orders for processing by this FMS, subject to resource constraints and potentially conflicting performance objectives. A structured framework for conflict resolution is described and compromise solutions are obtained using standard mathematical programming software.  相似文献

Scheduling is an important aspect in the overall control of a flexible manufacturing system. The research presented focuses on production scheduling of jobs within a flexible manufacturing cell (FMC)–one type of flexible manufacturing system. Due to the complexity of the FMC scheduling problem, a 0–1 mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model is formulated for M machines and N jobs with alternative routings. Although small instances of the problem can be solved optimally with MILP models, a two-stage Tabu Search (TS2 ) algorithm that minimises the manufacturing makespan (MS) is proposed to solve medium-to-large-scale problems more efficiently. During Stage I (construction phase), two heuristics are utilised to generate an initial feasible sequence and an initial MS solution. In Stage II (improvement phase), the acquired initial solutions from Stage I are combined with a Tabu Search meta-heuristic procedure that provides improved MS solutions. The TS2 algorithm provides tremendous savings in computational time for medium/large-sized multi-machine FMC problems.  相似文献

The optimal design and control of flexible manufacturing systems is essential to minimize operating costs and enhance productivity. We present a hybrid mathematical model of a flexible manufacturing system as a closed network of queues for which the optimal cost effective system configuration is determined by a. partial implicit enumeration algorithm. The optimal configuration of both reliable and unreliable flexible manufacturing systems are considered.  相似文献

This paper describes an intelligent decision support system (IDSS) for real time control of a flexible manufacturing system (FMS). The controller is capable of classifying symptoms in developing the control policies on FMSs with flexibility in operation assignment and scheduling of multi-purpose machining centres which have different tools with their own efficiency. The proposed system is implemented by coupling of rule-based IDSS, simulation block and centralised simulation optimiser for elicitation of shop floor control knowledge. This posteriori adaptive controller uses a new bilateral mechanism in simulation optimiser block for offline training of IDSS based on multi-performance criteria simulation optimisation. The proposed intelligent controller receives online information of the FMS current state and trigger appropriate control rule within real-time simulation data exchange. Finally the FMS intelligent controller is validated by a benchmark test problem. Application of this adaptive controller showed that it could be an effective approach for real time control of various flexible manufacturing systems.  相似文献

An important element in the successful operation of flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) is the management of the tooling component. This paper reports on one aspect of tool management for FMS operations. Four tool allocation and scheduling strategies are compared in the presence of three part selection rules through a simulation study of a five-machine FMS with an automated tool handling system. The tool allocation strategies are similar to those used in industry while the part selection rules are synthesized from the literature on FMS scheduling under tooling constraints. The use of different tooling strategies produces significantly different outcomes in FMS performance.  相似文献

We consider a tool requirements planning problem (TRPP) of determining the number of tool copies for each tool type in a flexible manufacturing system with an automatic tool transporter. In this paper, four heuristic algorithms are developed for the TRPP with the objective of minimizing the total tool purchase cost subject to a makespan constraint. In the algorithms, starting from an initial (infeasible) solution, the numbers of tool copies for certain tool types are increased at each iteration until the makespan constraint becomes satisfied. In these algorithms, information obtained from discrete event simulation is used to select tool types of which the numbers of copies are to be increased. Computational experiments are performed on randomly generated test problems and results show that good tool requirements plans can be obtained with the heuristic algorithms in a reasonable amount of computation time.  相似文献

This paper deals with on-line scheduling in a multi-cell flexible manufacturing system, operating in a produce-to-order environment. A two level distributed production control system (DPCS) is developed and tested through a simulation study. The DPCS allows autonomous and simultaneous operation of each cell-controller, utilizing only local and short term information as well as simple heuristic rules. Simulation experiments show that the proposed DPCS achieves good results in throughput, tardiness of orders and WIP inventory level and that it is robust to machine and handling device failures.  相似文献

Flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) are usually composed of general purpose machines with automatic tool changing and integrated material handling. FMSs offer the advantages of high utilization levels and simultaneous production of a variety of part types with minimal changeover time. Although the trend in FMS operation appears to be towards unmanned production, there is much diversity in the policies under which FMSs can be operated. These policies are governed to some extent by the available technological resources. In this paper several policies are described. Tool loading and production assignment models for setting production plans over a short term planning horizon when using these policies are then formulated. Heuristics for the solution of these models are detailed and computational results are presented.  相似文献

A flexible manufacturing system (FMS) due to its ability of being flexible in nature is concerned with automatic production of different parts in medium range. In short, it can be regarded as an automated manufacturing system. In this paper, an insight on previous work in the area of FMS modelling has been provided with an overview of research and development for better understanding of FMS. It serves as a medium for investigation of work that are accomplished by using different modelling techniques in FMS like mathematical, artificial intelligence, hierarchical, multi criteria decision-making method, Petri Nets and simulation. This paper will help researchers who are keen to do research in the area of FMS modelling, by highlighting contribution of available techniques in the field of FMS. It will also help them in deciding which modelling techniques can be used for a given problem. At last, comparison of different parameters considered in the recent papers of modelling FMS has been provided in the form of Table, along with a clear vision related to those works that still need to be investigated.  相似文献

A multistage algorithm is proposed that will solve the scheduling problem in a flexible manufacturing system by considering the interrelated subproblems of processing time control, tool allocation and machining conditions optimization. The main objective of the proposed algorithm is to minimize total production cost consisting of tooling, operational and tardiness costs. The proposed integrated approach recognizes an important trade-off in automated manufacturing systems that has been largely unrecognized, and which is believed can be effectively exploited to improve production efficiency and lead to substantial cost reductions.  相似文献

We consider a job sequencing and tool transporter movements problem on a single flexible machine with limited tool magazine capacity. A tool transporter having limited capacity is used in transporting the tools between the machine and tool crib area. Our aim is to minimize the number of the tool transporter movements. We present several lower and upper bounds, propose a Branch-and-Bound algorithm and a Beam Search procedure, and report results from a computational experiment. We find that optimal solutions can be quickly obtained for medium-sized instances with 25 jobs and 25 tools. For large-sized problem instances, Beam Search provides high quality solutions very quickly. Finally, we address the problem of minimizing the total flow time.  相似文献

Flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) have provided job shop-type operations a variety of solutions to their widely documented inefficiencies. FMS come with a wide spectrum of capabilities and are used in a wide variety of manufacturing environments. The present study proposes there are situations where inventory control issues need to be considered during the FMS set-up planning. It has developed a non-linear mathematical programming model, which also has binary variables, to optimize inventory costs during the set-up planning for a sample FMS installation. The solution to the mathematical model is non-trivial. It shows that using this model in conjunction with analytical methods such as constraint propagation and generate-and-test, and sigmoid function approximations, facilitates robust solutions to some of the subproblems of the FMS set-up problem. The study also provides an exchange curve based framework for analysing the implications of inventory policy variables on decisions made at the FMS set-up stage.  相似文献

This paper discusses the scheduling problem of a particular flexible manufacturing system (FMS). The two main components of the FMS are a CNC turret lathe and a CNC machining centre. In the system a wide range of different jobs has to be processed. Each job consists of one or more processing operations on one or both machines. Important characteristics of the scheduling problem are sequence-dependent change-over times (on the turret lathe) and transfer times (on both machines and between the machines). The change-over times are caused by the need to exchange tools in the turret when a new part is going to be processed. The transfer times reflect the time needed to perform manual transportation and clamping activities between two subsequent processing (machining) operations of a part. In this paper a branch and bound algorithm is described based on an active schedule strategy. Solutions are compared to results obtained by a simple dispatching rule  相似文献

In this work we describe the design of a tool management system of a flexible manufacturing facility operating in the avionics components industry, The design included several modifications to the existing system. While previously the tool handling devices were used only to perform machine setup, the modifications allowed the tools to be shared among machines. This allowed a full exploitation of the flexibility of the system. In the work we thoroughly report on the procedures implemented for the determination of tools to be duplicated, for part routeing and scheduling, and for tool movements synchronization.  相似文献
