Metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) structures containing Ge nanocrystals embedded in both Al2O3 and ZrO2/Al2O3 are fabricated by an ultra-high vacuum electron-beam evaporation method. Secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) results indicate that Ge embedded in Al2O3 diffuses towards the surface of the Al2O3 layer after annealing at 800°C in N2 ambient for 30 min. Ge embedded in ZrO2/Al2O3 is stable, thus inducing less leakage current. Capacitance voltage studies indicate that annealing can effectively passivate the negatively charged trapping centers. Memory effect of the Ge nanoclusters is verified by hysteresis in the C-V curves in the Al2O3/Ge+Al2O3/Al2O3 and ZrO2/Ge+Al2O3/Al2O3 samples. Corrosive wear behavior of 7075 aluminum alloy and a composite containing 0.10 volume fraction of alumina particles (VFAP) has been evaluated. Transient current (TC) generated as a result of impacting a rotating cylindrical electrode immersed in a 0.1M NaCl solution with a Vickers diamond hardness indenter has been used to measure the corrosive wear response. Age hardenable 7075 alloy shows TC values that are sensitive to prior solutionizing time. The effect of alumina particles in a 7075 aluminum alloy matrix has been studied by comparing the TC values of a monolith along with composites under almost identical experimental conditions. The role of microstructural features associated with composites, such as dislocations generated after solutionizing treatment and during the corrosive wear process, has been observed with the help of near surface microstructures through transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Deformation induced dislocations, as well as those that are due to differences in the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) values between the particles and the matrix during solutionizing, have been attributed to the experimentally observed TC values. They may also be affected by the aging response of the monolith and composites, depending on solutionizing time.  相似文献

Al2O3 /xZrO2 (where x = 0, 3, 13, and 20 wt.%) composite coatings were deposited onto mild steel substrates by atmospheric plasma spraying of mixed α-Al2O3 and nano-sized monoclinic-ZrO2 powders. Microstructural investigation showed that the coatings comprised well-separated Al2O3 and ZrO2 lamellae, pores, and partially molten particles. The coating comprised mainly of metastable γ-Al2O3 and tetragonal-ZrO2 with trace of original α-Al2O3 and monoclinic-ZrO2 phases. The effect of ZrO2 addition on the properties of coatings were investigated in terms of microhardness, fracture toughness, and wear behavior. It was found that ZrO2 improved the fracture toughness, reduced friction coefficient, and wear rate of the coatings.  相似文献

Nanoscale oxide dispersions have long been used to increase the oxidation and wear resistance of alloys used as bond coatings in thermal barrier coatings. Their manufacturing via mechanical alloying is often accompanied by difficulties regarding their particle size, homogeneous distribution of the oxide dispersions inside the powder, involving considerable costs, due to cold welding of the powder during milling. A significant improvement in this process can be achieved by the use of process control agent (PCA) to achieve the critical balance between cold welding and fracturing, thereby enhancing the process efficiency. In this investigation, the influence of the organic additive stearic acid on the manufacturing process of Al2O3-doped CoNiCrAlY powder was investigated. Powders were fabricated via mechanical alloying at different milling times and PCA concentrations. The results showed a decrease in particle size, without hindering the homogeneous incorporation of the oxide dispersions. Two powders manufactured with 0.5 and 1.0 wt.% PCA were deposited by high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) spraying. Results showed that a higher content of elongated particles in the powder with the higher PCA content led to increased surface roughness, porosity and decreased coating thickness, with areas without embedded oxide particles.  相似文献

Al2O3/Cu composites were prepared by external addition of Al2O3, and the effect of Al2O3 content on microstructure, density, hardness, electrical conductivity and vacuum electrical breakdown properties was studied. The results show that with increasing Al2O3 addition, the density of Al2O3/Cu composite significantly decreases, the hardness sharply increases and then slowly decreases, but the electrical conductivity invariably decreases. The vacuum breakdown test shows that with increasing Al2O3 addition, the breakdown strength first sharply increases and then decreases when the Al2O3 content exceeds 1.2 wt.%; the chopping current always exhibits a decreasing trend and the arc life first increases and then decreases. According to the morphology of arc erosion and analysis, the arc erosion resistance increases and then decreases sharply. In the range of experiments, the optimal arc erosion resistance of Al2O3/Cu composite can be obtained with the addition of 1.2 wt.% Al2O3.  相似文献

Al2O3/ZrO2/Al2O3 gate stacks were prepared on ultrathin SOI (Silicon on insulator) substrates by ultrahigh vacuum electron beam evaporation and post-annealed in N2 at 450°C for 30 min. Three clear nanolaminate layered structure of Al2O3(2.1 nm)/ZrO2(3.5 nm)/Al2O3(2.3 nm) was observed with a high-resolution cross-sectional transmission electron microscope (HR-XTEM). High frequency capacitance voltage (C-V) characteristics of a fully depleted (FD) SOI MOS capacitor at 1 and 5 MHz were studied. The minority carriers determine the high frequency C-V properties, which is opposite to the case of bulk MOS capacitors. The series resistance of the SOI substrate is found to be the determinant factor of the high frequency characteristics of FD SOI MOS capacitors. Observations are presented on the initiation and growth of Al2O3/Al composites by the directed melt oxidation of Al-Si alloys containing metallic Zn or using external dopant ZnO. Thermal gravimetric analysis, optical microscopy, and x-ray diffraction analysis were employed to characterize the progress of oxidation and the nature of oxidation products. Both Zn and ZnO dopants were able to initiate the directed melt oxidation of Al-Si alloys without any Mg being present. Al2O3/Al composites were produced when the alloying Zn concentration exceeding 3 wt.%. The incubation period of the oxidation process for Al-Si-Zn alloys was shortened markedly and the amount of composite products increased with the increasing of Zn content in the alloy. In addition, doping with ZnO powder resulted in dense composite formation. A macroscopically planar surface and a fine microstructure promote oxidation growth in Al2O3/Al composites. Doping with ZnO powder offers a significant advantage over using metallic Zn for the directed melt oxidation of Al-Si alloy.  相似文献

Nanopowders of MgO, Al2O3 and SiO2 were made by high energy ball milling. The rapid sintering of nanostuctured Al2O3-MgSiO3 composites was investigated by the high-frequency induction heating sintering process. The advantage of this process is that it allows very quick densification to near theoretical density and inhibits grain growth. Highly dense nanostructured Al2O3-MgSiO3 composites were produced with the simultaneous application of 80 MPa pressure and the induced output current of total power capacity (15 kW) within 2 min. The sintering behavior, grain size and mechanical properties of Al2O3-MgSiO3 composites were investigated.  相似文献

Aluminum (Al) alloy 7075 reinforced with Al2O3 particles was prepared using the stir casting method. The microstructure of the cast composites showed some degree of porosity and sites of Al2O3 particle clustering, especially at high-volume fractions of Al2O3 particles. Different squeeze pressures (25 and 50 MPa) were applied to the cast composite during solidification to reduce porosity and particle clusters. Microstructure examinations of the squeeze cast composites showed remarkable grain refining compared with that of the matrix alloy. As the volume fraction of particles and applied squeeze pressure increased, the hardness linearly increased. This increase was related to the modified structure and the decrease in the porosity. The effect of particle volume fraction and squeeze pressure on the dry-sliding wear of the composites was studied. Experiments were performed at 10, 30, and 50 N with a sliding speed of 1 m/s using a pin-on-ring apparatus. Increasing the particle volume fraction and squeeze pressure improved the wear resistance of the composite compared with that of the monolithic alloy, because the Al2O3 particles acted as load-bearing constituents. Also, these results can be attributed to the fact that the application of squeeze pressure during solidification led to a reduction in the porosity, and an increase in the solidification rate, leading to a finer structure. Moreover, the application of squeeze pressure improved the interface strength between the matrix and Al2O3 particles by elimination of the porosity at the interface, thereby providing better mechanical locking.  相似文献

Pure Al and alumina (2, 5, 10 wt.% Al2O3)-added Al composite foams were fabricated through powder metallurgy technique, where boric acid (H3BO3) is employed as a new alternative foaming agent. It is aimed to determine the effects of boric acid on the foaming behavior and cellular structure and also purposed to develop the mechanical properties of Al foams by addition of Al2O3. Al and Al composite foams with porosity fraction in the range of 46-53% were achieved by sintering at 620 °C for 2 h. Cell morphology was characterized using a combination of stereomicroscope equipped with image analyzer and scanning electron microscopy. Microhardness values were measured via using Vickers indentation technique. Quasi-static compression tests were performed at strain rate of 10?3 s?1. Compressive strength and energy absorption of the composite foams enhanced not only by the increasing weight fraction of alumina, but also by the usage of boric acid which leads to formation of boron oxide (B2O3) acting as a binder in obtaining dense cell walls. The results revealed that the boric acid has outstanding potential as foaming agent in the fabrication of Al and Al composite foams by providing improved mechanical properties.  相似文献

Recent interest in developing cathode materials for an elevated temperature operation of Li-ion batteries has motivated researchers to explore the possibility of using layered V2O5 as a potential candidate because of its high capacity and cyclic stability. Despite a wide lithiation voltage window of V2O5 (between 1.0 V and 4.0 V), compositional fluctuations, metal dissolution, and so on contribute to capacity loss at high temperatures. A first discharge of V2O5 to voltages below 2.0 V has been observed to be associated with a series of phase transformations at both room temperature and high temperature and has been characterized here. From structural characterization of harvested electrodes post–first discharge, a new Li-rich phase was observed to be formed at 120°C and the composition was estimated.  相似文献

In this research, a composite comprising an intermetallic matrix and dispersed Al2O3 particles was processed. A mixture of TiO2 and Al was mechanically activated in the presence of a process control agent and/or without it, in a high-energy planetary ball mill. As a subsequent process, the sample was sintered at various temperatures. The phase composition and morphology of the samples were evaluated by XRD and SEM techniques, respectively. The thermal behavior of the samples milled for 8 h with PVA and/or without it, were also assessed by the DTA technique and compared with one another. The DTA results revealed that addition of PVA shifted the aluminothermic reduction of TiO2 to higher temperatures; therefore, final composite phases were developed at higher temperatures. The results also showed that addition of PVA during milling caused the final microstructure to coarsen. The XRD pattern of the sample sintered at 700 °C exhibits the existence of TiAl, Ti3Al, and Al2O3 phases. In the sample sintered at 850 °C, the remaining Ti3Al peak was attenuated and completely disappeared at 1000 °C.  相似文献

The hot deformation behavior of an A356/Al2O3 composite fabricated by the infiltration method was characterized in the temperature range of 300-500 °C and strain rate range of 0.001-1/s using compressive tests. The composite consists of an Al-Si based matrix and nano-sized Al2O3 particulates. A constitutive model was established based on the hyperbolic sine Arrhenius type equation and its hot workability was evaluated by means of processing maps based on Dynamic Material Modeling. The activation energy for hot deformation was calculated to be 223 kJ/mol, which is higher than the activation energy for self-diffusion of pure aluminum (142 kJ/mol). The optimum processing condition for the hot working of the composite was found to exist at 500 °C with a strain rate of 1/s, where a dynamic recrystallized microstructure was observed and the maximum efficiency was exhibited in the processing map. Voids were frequently detected at 500 °C with lower strain rates, deteriorating the workability of the composite.  相似文献

In this work, SiCP and SiCP/SiO2 porous preforms were infiltrated without assistance in Ar→N2 atmosphere with the alloy Al-10.3 Mg-12.04 Si (wt.%) at 1050 and 1100 °C, for 20, 40 and 60 min. It was found that a decrease in residual porosity and an increase in elastic modulus by about 22 % with respect to composites produced without SiO2 additions to the preforms are associated with the formation of magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl2O4). A concurrent increase of the matrix hardness is ascribed to a strengthening mechanism by MgAl2O4 formation, similar to the strengthening observed with Mg2Si in aluminum alloys. Therefore, the spinel can be considered as a co-reinforcement of SiCp in the aluminum matrix composites. Reactions for spinel formation and possible mechanisms for hardness enhancement are outlined.  相似文献

Graphite is used in high-temperature gas-cooled reactors because of its outstanding irradiation performance and corrosion resistance. To restrict its high-temperature (>873 K) oxidation, atmospheric-plasma-sprayed SiC-ZrB2-Al2O3-carbon nanotube (CNT) dual-layer coating was deposited on graphite substrate in this work. The effect of each layer was isolated by processing each component of the coating via spark plasma sintering followed by isothermal kinetic studies. Based on isothermal analysis and the presence of high residual thermal stress in the oxide scale, degradation appeared to be more severe in composites reinforced with CNTs. To avoid the complexity of analysis of composites, the high-temperature activation energy for oxidation was calculated for the single-phase materials only, yielding values of 11.8, 20.5, 43.5, and 4.5 kJ/mol for graphite, SiC, ZrB2, and CNT, respectively, with increased thermal stability for ZrB2 and SiC. These results were then used to evaluate the oxidation rate for the composites analytically. This study has broad implications for wider use of dual-layer (SiC-ZrB2/Al2O3) coatings for protecting graphite crucibles even at temperatures above 1073 K.  相似文献

The tensile properties and microstructures of Al alloys reinforced with AlN particles formed byin-situ reaction under a nitrogen atmosphere were analyzed. It was found that AlN particle layers formed on the surface of the Al particles in the powder bed, which replaced the Mg3N2 coated layers through the reaction, Mg3N2+2A1 → 2AlN+3Mg. The tensile strength and 0.2% offset yield strength in the control alloys were significantly greater than those in commercial alloys. This increase was due to the fine AlN particles formed by the abovein-situ reactions of the Mg3N2 formation and its decomposition into AlN. The Ni3Al matrix self-lubricating composite was fabricated by powder metallurgy technique. The tribological behavior of the composite sliding against commercial Si3N4, SiC and Al2O3 ceramic balls was investigated from 20 to 1000 °C. It was found that the composite demonstrated excellent lubricating properties with different friction pairs at a wide temperature range, which can be attributed to the synergetic effect of Ag, fluorides, and molybdates formed by oxidations. The Ni3Al matrix self-lubricating composite/Si3N4 couple possessed the stable friction coefficient and wear rate.  相似文献
