Cooperative learning provides a socially and intellectually stimulating model for the instruction of nursing students. It is one method of encouraging students to take responsibility for their own learning. Students are often able to explain a concept to another student in a unique way not used by faculty. This model harnesses and directs that student input in a constructive manner to increase achievement and accountability for all involved. Faculty must continue to examine how nursing is taught. The world is changing far too rapidly to do "business as usual." Cooperative learning is one strategy that can be used to motivate students to take active and responsible roles in their learning.  相似文献

Assessed the motivational characteristics of Francophones learning English as a 2nd language. A total of 304 Grade 10 and 11 Montreal Francophone students responded to a battery of attitude and motivation scales (e.g., attitudes toward English Canadians, parental encouragement, and opportunity to use English). The correlations among these scales were factor analyzed together with indices of intelligence, and achievement in French, mathematics, and English. Results tend to support the generalization that an individual's motivation to learn a 2nd language is dependent upon favorable attitudes toward the 2nd language community (i.e., an integrative motive). However, while Ss' intentions to continue studying English were related to an integrative motive, actual competence in the 2nd language seemed to be more closely related to a dimension of motivation which is best described as self-confidence derived from prior experience with the language. A biased representation of the desirability of the masculine and feminine trait terms included within a questionnaire can compel test respondents to characterize males and females in a comparably biased manner. The current study assessed whether the English language might itself contain more male-valued or female-valued terms. Ratings of desirability, masculinity, and femininity were obtained on a representative sample of 1,710 trait terms. The results suggested that the language is not itself gender neutral, in that it does appear to have more female-valued than male-valued terms. However, the language might not be described as biased if this is an accurate representation of the traits exhibited by males and females and the desirability of the traits. A process-diagnostic orientation for assessment of special needs and for evaluation of instructional outcomes was implemented with a sample of 120 language-impaired preschool children. In one study, children's language impairments were characterized with respect to language processes associated previously with successful classroom learning. These classroom language processes were assessed with the Preschool Language Assessment Instrument, which operationalizes a "perceptual-language" model of classroom communication and learning outcomes. As predicted by the perceptual-language model, individual responses were characterized by a simplex structure. In a second study, children who participated in an environment that included instruction in the LOGO programming language demonstrated higher levels of perceptual-language skills postinstruction when compared with counterparts who either participated in a second software environment or were in a control condition. Contends that supervision of psychotherapy is a complicated responsibility because the supervisor's commitment is divided between supporting the growth of the student and protecting the welfare of the client. The phenomenon of the treatment relationship can be obscured by parallel processes in the supervision. A model based on a set of developmental crises that reflect stages of learning and maturation in therapist growth is proposed. Crises in learning psychotherapy include (1) the demand for wide-ranging tolerance of ambiguity, (2) recognition and acceptance of the limits of one's capacity to offer therapeutic conditions, (3) the discovery of therapy as deep communication, and (4) the emergence of a conceptual set in which a variety of models of therapeutic intervention are related to the needs of varying patients. It is suggested that the behavior of the supervisor in dealing with problems in supervised psychotherapy is the real modeling. Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a common condition that vascular nurses see daily in their practice. Ruptured AAA is the thirteenth leading cause of death in the United States. Increasingly, vascular surgeons are facing older patients with severe comorbid conditions and an AAA. These factors have led to the development of less invasive techniques for repairing AAAs. Endovascular grafting is a technique currently being performed on selected patients. Benefits of this procedure include a small femoral incision, fewer cardiopulmonary risks than the traditional surgery, rapid recovery, short hospital stay, and a decrease in overall cost. Nurses are responsible for patient education, assessment, and evaluation of patients undergoing this procedure.  相似文献
