In order to analyze the driving stability of a plug-in fuel cell vehicle (PFCV), a computer-aided simulator for PFCVs has been developed. PFCVs have been introduced around the world to achieve early commercialization of an eco-friendly and highly efficient fuel cell vehicle. The plug-in option, which allows the battery to be recharged from the electricity grid, enables a reduction in size of the fuel cell system (FCS) and an improvement of its durability. As such, the existing limitations of the fuel cell - such as its high cost, poor durability, and the insufficient hydrogen infrastructure – can be overcome. During the design phase of PFCV development, simulation-based driving stability test is necessary to determine the sizes of the electric engine of the FCS and the battery. The developed simulator is very useful for analyzing the driving stability of the PFCV with respect to the capacities of the FCS and battery. The simulation results are in fact very close to those obtained from a real system, since the estimation accuracy of PFCV component models used in this simulator, such as the fuel cell stack, battery, electric vehicle, and the other balance of plants (BOPs), are verified by the experiments, and the simulator uses the newly-proposed power distribution control logic and the pre-confirmed real driving schedule. Using these results, we can study which one will be the best in terms of driving stability.  相似文献

A prediction-based power management strategy is proposed for fuel cell/battery plug-in hybrid vehicles with the goal of improving overall system operating efficiency. The main feature of the proposed strategy is that, if the total amount of energy required to complete a particular drive cycle can be reliably predicted, then the energy stored in the onboard electrical storage system can be depleted in an optimal manner that permits the fuel cell to operate in its most efficient regime. The strategy has been implemented in a vehicle power-train simulator called LFM which was developed in MATLAB/SIMULINK software and its effectiveness was evaluated by comparing it with a conventional control strategy. The proposed strategy is shown to provide significant improvement in average fuel cell system efficiency while reducing hydrogen consumption. It has been demonstrated with the LFM simulation that the prediction-based power management strategy can maintain a stable power request to the fuel cell thereby improving fuel cell durability, and that the battery is depleted to the desired state-of-charge at the end of the drive cycle. A sensitivity analysis has also been conducted to study the effects of inaccurate predictions of the remaining portion of the drive cycle on hydrogen consumption and the final battery state-of-charge. Finally, the advantages of the proposed control strategy over the conventional strategy have been validated through implementation in the University of Delaware's fuel cell hybrid bus with operational data acquired from onboard sensors.  相似文献

The size of the individual powerplant components on board a fuel cell/battery hybrid vehicle affects the power management strategy which determines both the fuel economy and the durability of the fuel cell and the battery, and thus the average lifetime cost of the vehicle. Cost is one of the major barriers to the commercialization of fuel cell vehicles, therefore it is important to study how the sizing configuration affects overall vehicle cost. In this paper, degradation models for the fuel cell and the battery on board a fuel cell/battery hybrid bus are incorporated into the power management system to extend their lifetimes. Different sizing configurations were studied and the results reveal that the optimal size with highest lifetime and lowest average cost is highly dependent on the drive cycle. The vehicle equipped with a small fuel cell stack serving as a range extender will fail earlier and consume more fuel under drive cycles with high average power demand resulting in higher overall cost. However, the same configuration gives optimal results under a standard bus cycle with lower average power demand. At the other end of the spectrum, a fuel cell-dominant bus does not guarantee longer lifetime since the fuel cell operates mostly under low-load conditions which correspond to higher potentials reducing lifetime. Such a configuration also incurs a higher initial capital cost of the fuel cell stack resulting in a high average cost. The best configuration is a battery-dominated system with moderately-sized fuel cell stack which achieves the longest lifetime combined with the lowest average running cost throughout the lifetime of the vehicle.  相似文献

The possibility of replacing, with electric drive systems, at least some of the internal-combustion engines currently employed in road vehicles is being actively pursued by all the world's major automobile manufacturing companies. Minimum on-road emissions would be achieved by the adoption of pure electric vehicles, but the somewhat limited range available between charges of the batteries has led to a serious evaluation of hybrid electric vehicles as an acceptable compromise. In hybrids, a small internal-combustion engine, operated at high efficiency, will consume less fuel and produce less emissions than would a regular internal-combustion engine, and will allow considerable range extension over the pure electric vehicle. Eventually, an electric system which employs a fuel cell may become affordable. It is likely that all three systems — the pure electric, the hybrid electric, and the fuel cell system — will require battery support, particularly to provide boost power for acceleration and hill climbing. Although more expensive battery systems are being vigorously developed in pursuit of greater range per charge, the benchmark against which these systems are compared remains the valve-regulated lead–acid (VRLA) battery.  相似文献

The most promising vehicle engine that can overcome the problem of present internal combustion is the hydrogen fuel cell. Fuel cells are devices that change chemical energy directly into electrical energy without combustion. Pure fuel cell vehicles and fuel cell hybrid vehicles (i.e. a combination of fuel cell and battery) as energy sources are studied. Considerations of efficiency, fuel economy, and the characteristics of power output in hybridization of fuel cell vehicle are necessary. In the case of Federal Urban Driving Schedule (FUDS) cycle simulation, hybridization is more efficient than a pure fuel cell vehicle. The reason is that it is possible to capture regenerative braking energy and to operate the fuel cell system within a more efficient range by using battery.Life-cycle cost is largely affected by the fuel cell size, fuel cell cost, and hydrogen cost. When the cost of fuel cell is high, hybridization is profitable, but when the cost of fuel cell is less than 400 US$/kW, a pure fuel cell vehicle is more profitable.  相似文献

Optimization of fuel cell/battery hybrid vehicle systems has primarily focused on reducing fuel consumption. However, it is also necessary to focus on fuel cell and battery durability as inadequate lifespan is still a major barrier to the commercialization of fuel cell vehicles. Here, we introduce a power management strategy which concurrently accounts for fuel consumption as well as fuel cell and battery degradation. Fuel cell degradation is quantified using a simplified electrochemical model which provides an analytical solution for the decay of the electrochemical surface area (ECSA) in the fuel cell by accounting for the performance loss due to transient power load, start/stop cycles, idling and high power load. The results show that the performance loss based on remaining ECSA matches well with test data in the literature. A validated empirical model is used to relate Lithium-ion battery capacity decay to C-rate. Simulations are then conducted using a typical bus drive cycle to optimize the fuel cell/battery hybrid system. We demonstrate that including these degradation models in the objective function can effectively extend the lifetime of the fuel cell at the expense of higher battery capacity decay resulting in a lower average running cost over the lifetime of the vehicle.  相似文献

This article presents a model of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) system for marine power systems. PEMFC in marine hybrid power sources can have various power ranges and capacities in contrast with vehicle applications. Investigating PEMFCs behaviour and performance for various conditions and configurations is demanded for proper sizing and feasibility studies. Hence, modelling and simulation facilitate understanding the performance of the PEMFC behaviour with various sizes and configurations in power systems. The developed model in this work has a system level fidelity with real time capabilities, which can be utilized for simulator approaches besides quasi-static studies with a power-efficiency curve. Moreover, the model can be used for scaling the PEMFC power range by considering transient responses and corresponding efficiencies. The Bond graph approach as a multi-disciplinary energy based modelling strategy is employed for the PEMFC as a multi domains system. In the end, various PEMFC cell numbers and compressor sizes have been compared with power-efficiency curves and transient responses in a benchmark.  相似文献

This paper presents a sizing method and different control strategies for the suitable energy management of a stand-alone hybrid system based on photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, hydrogen subsystem and battery. The battery and hydrogen subsystem, which is composed of fuel cell (FC), electrolyzer and hydrogen storage tank, act as energy storage and support system. In order to efficiently utilize the energy sources integrated in the hybrid system, an appropriate sizing is necessary. In this paper, a new sizing method based on Simulink Design Optimization (SDO) of MATLAB was used to perform a technical optimization of the hybrid system components. An analysis cost has been also performed, in that the configuration under study has been compared with those integrating only batteries and only hydrogen system. The dynamic model of the designed hybrid system is detailed in this paper. The models, implemented in MATLAB-Simulink environment, have been designed from commercially available components. Three control strategies based on operating modes and combining technical-economic aspects are considered for the energy management of the hybrid system. They have been designed, primarily, to satisfy the load power demand and, secondarily, to maintain a certain level at the hydrogen tank (hydrogen energy reserve), and at the state of charge (SOC) of the battery bank to extend its life, taking into account also technical-economic analysis. Dynamic simulations were performed to evaluate the configuration, sizing and control strategies for the energy management of the hybrid system under study in this work. Simulation results show that the proposed hybrid system with the presented controls is able to provide the energy demanded by the loads, while maintaining a certain energy reserve in the storage sources.  相似文献

This paper describes an energy management algorithm for an electrical hybrid vehicle. The proposed hybrid vehicle presents a fuel cell as the main energy source and the storage system, composed of a battery and a supercapacitor as the secondary energy source. The main source must produce the necessary energy to the electrical vehicle. The secondary energy source produces the lacking power in acceleration and absorbs excess power in braking operation. The addition of a supercapacitor and battery in fuel cell-based vehicles has a great potential because it allows a significant reduction of the hydrogen consumption and an improvement of the vehicle efficiency. Other the energy sources, the electrical vehicle composed of a traction motor drive, Inverter and power conditioning. The last is composed of three DC/DC converters: the first converter interfaces the fuel cell and the DC link. For the second and the third converter, two buck boost are used in order to interface respectively the ultracapacitor and the battery with the DC link. The energy management algorithm determines the currents of the converters in order to regulate accurately the power provided from the three electrical sources. This algorithm is simulated with MATLAB_Simulink and implemented experimentally with a real-time system controller based on dSPACE. In this paper, the proposed algorithm is evaluated for the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). The experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed energy management algorithm.  相似文献

The present study considers the optimal sizing of a three-way hybrid powertrain consisting of a compact reformer, a compact battery and a low temperature PEM fuel cell stack serving as the main power unit. A simulation model consisting of the relevant characteristic parameters of the three power sources has been developed and has been used to study the fuel utilization features of the hybrid powertrain while going through the NEDC driving cycle with a given auxiliary power requirement. The optimality is based on minimizing fuel cost while having an assured range of 500 km under practical driving conditions and a further 100 km under reduced auxiliary power usage. It is shown that for performance characteristics of Toyota Mirai and for average auxiliary power consumption of 5 kW, a smaller NiMH battery size of 1.3 kWh together with a fuel processor of 5.6 kW constant output would be optimal with a further requirement of 25% more hydrogen and 33 kg of ethanol to be carried on-board. Substantial reductions in vehicle mass and fuel load can be achieved for more modest performance characteristics and auxiliary power consumption.  相似文献

In this study, a small portable fuel cell/battery hybrid system has been developed. The system consists of a single portable direct borohydride/peroxide fuel cell (DBPFC), NiMH battery and power management unit (PMU). The battery has been used as a primary power source and has been discharged at constant load. When its state of charge is reduced, the DBPFC charges the battery and powers the load simultaneously. A DC–DC Boost converter has been used as a PMU. The DBPFC has provided the total power of 0.21 Wh into the system during the charge. During this experimental study fuel (NaBH4) efficiency of 37% has been achieved in the hybrid system, while the system efficiency has been calculated as 34.5%.  相似文献

This paper described the development of a fuel cell system and its integration into the lightweight vehicle known as the Mingdao hydrogen vehicle (MHV). The fuel cell system consists of a 5-kW proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), a microcontroller and other supported components like a compressed hydrogen cylinder, blower, solenoid valve, pressure regulator, water pump, heat exchanger and sensors. The fuel cell not only propels the vehicle but also powers the supporting components. The MHV performs satisfactorily over a hundred-kilometer drive thus validating the concept of a fuel cell powered zero-emission vehicle. Measurements further show that the fuel cell system has an efficiency of over 30% at the power consumption for vehicle cruise, which is higher than that of a typical internal combustion engine. Tests to improve performance such as speed enhancement, acceleration and fuel efficiency will be conducted in the future work. Such tests will consist of hybridizing with a battery pack.  相似文献

This paper presents a comparative study of four sizing methods for a stand-alone hybrid generation system integrating renewable energies (photovoltaic panels and wind turbine) and backup and storage system based on battery and hydrogen (fuel cell, electrolyzer and hydrogen storage tank). Two of them perform a technical sizing. In one case, the sizing is based on basic equations, and in the other case, an optimal technical sizing is achieved by using Simulink Design Optimization. The other two methods perform an optimal techno-economical sizing by using the hybrid system optimization software HOMER and HOGA, respectively. These methods have been applied to design a stand-alone hybrid system which supplies the load energy demand during a year. A MATLAB-Simulink model of the hybrid system has been used to simulate the performance of hybrid system designed by each method for the stand-alone application under study in this work. A hybrid power system consists of a fuel cell and an energy storage device like a battery and/or a supercapacitor possessing high energy and power density that beneficially drives electric vehicle motor. The structures of the fuel cell-based power system are complicated and costly, and in energy management strategies (EMSs), the fuel cell's characteristics are usually neglected. In this study, a variable structure battery (VSB) scheme is proposed to enhance the hybrid power system, and an incremental fuzzy logic method is developed by considering the efficiency and power change rate of fuel cell to balance the power system load. The principle of VSB is firstly introduced and validated by discharge and charge experiments. Subsequently, parameters matching of the fuel cell hybrid power system according to the proposed VSB are designed and modeled. To protect the fuel cell as well as ensure the efficiency, a fuzzy logic EMS is formulated via setting the fuel cell operating in a high efficiency and generating an incremental power output within the affordable power slope. The comparison between a traditional deterministic rules-based EMS and the designed fuzzy logic was implemented by numerical simulation in three different operation conditions: NEDC, UDDS, and user-defined driving cycle. The results indicated that the incremental fuzzy logic EMS smoothed the fuel cell power and kept the high efficiency. The proposed VSB and incremental fuzzy logic EMS may have a potential application in fuel cell vehicles.  相似文献

Zero-emission fuel cell driven systems are regarded as promising technological advances in the future of the transportation industry that have the potential to replace internal combustion engines. The design, performance, and efficiency properties of a vehicle are often stated to be some of the key challenges in its commercialization. This paper highlights a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC)-powered system of an electric bicycle. The system consists of a 250-W fuel cell, ECU, battery pack, DC/DC converter, electric motor, and other supporting equipment. After introducing the different parts of the bicycle, its overall efficiency will be discussed in great detail. The efficiency of fuel cells is not specific; it is a subordinate to the power density where the system operates. Experimental work has been conducted to measure the values of the efficiency and energy flow. The results indicated a maximum fuel cell efficiency of 63% and an overall system efficiency of 35.4%. The latter value is expressed with regards to the Lower Heating Value (LHV) of hydrogen. All measurements were taken for the cruising conditions of the vehicle and its corresponding to power consumption. The results are superior to those of a standard internal ignition engine. The fuel cell performance is least efficient when functioning under maximum output power conditions.  相似文献

研究并联混合动力汽车的控制策略。基于发动机输出转矩最优的能量管理策略,对并联混合动力汽车在工作模式切换中的相互配合问题,提出发动机动态转矩控制+动力电池荷电状态(state of charge,SOC)干预+电机转矩补偿控制的转矩协调控制方法;在Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow平台搭建整车能量管理控制策略模型,控制发动机工作在高效率区,保证发动机输出最优转矩;根据电池的SOC干预电机的运行状态,协同发动机提供整车需求转矩。在Cruise平台下建立整车模型,以新欧洲驾驶周期作为循环工况进行离线仿真。结果表明,能量管理与转矩协调控制策略能够有效分配电机和发动机的转矩输出,满足混合动力汽车多模式切换的要求。  相似文献

Hybridizing a fuel cell with an energy storage unit (battery or supercapacitor) combines the advantages of each device to deliver a system with high efficiency, low emissions, and extended operation compared to a purely fuel cell or battery/supercapacitor system. However, the benefits of such a system can only be realised if the system is properly designed and sized, based on the technologies available and the application involved. In this work we present a sizing-design methodology for hybridisation of a fuel cell with a battery or supercapacitor for applications with a cyclic load profile with two discrete power levels. As an example of the method's application, the design process for selecting the energy storage technology, sizing it for the application, and determining the fuel load/range limitations, is given for an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV). A system level mass and energy balance shows that hydrogen and oxygen storage systems dominate the mass and volume of the energy system and consequently dictate the size and maximum mission duration of a UUV.  相似文献

Traditional power management systems for hybrid vehicles often focus on the optimization of one particular cost factor, such as fuel consumption, under specific driving scenarios. The cost factor is usually based on the beginning-of-life performance of system components. Typically, such strategies do not account for the degradation of the different components of the system over their lifetimes. This study incorporates the effect of fuel cell and battery degradation within their cost factors and investigates the impact of different power management strategies on fuel cell/battery loads and thus on the operating cost over the vehicle's lifetime. A simple rule-based power management system was compared with a model predictive controller (MPC) based system under a connected vehicle scenario (where the future vehicle speed is known a priori within a short time horizon). The combined cost factor consists of hydrogen consumption and the degradation of both the fuel cell stack and the battery. The results show that the rule-based power management system actually performs better and achieves lower lifetime cost compared to the MPC system even though the latter contains more information about the drive cycle. This result is explained by examining the changing dynamics of the three cost factors over the vehicle's lifetime. These findings reveal that a limited knowledge of traffic information might not be as useful for the power management of certain fuel cell/battery hybrid vehicles when degradation is taken into consideration, and a simple tuned rule-based controller is adequate to minimize the lifetime cost.  相似文献

Combining with the characteristics of different types of electric vehicles, the on-board hydrogen-producing fuel cell vehicle design is adopted, which eliminates the problems about the high-pressure hydrogen storage and the hydrogenation process. The fuel cell is used as the main power source to drive the motor, and the lithium battery is used as the auxiliary power source to accelerate and recycle energy in order to meet the special requirements, like energy recovery, power and dynamic characteristics, of fuel cell vehicles. On the ADVISOR simulation platform based on MATLAB/Simulink environment, a hybrid drive model and a pure fuel cell drive model are built, and simulation and comparative analysis are performed. In the hybrid drive model, fuel cells and lithium batteries work in the highly efficient and safe operating areas respectively, and the output power of fuel cell has small fluctuations, improving energy utilization efficiency and extending the service life of the fuel cell. At the same time, the charge and discharge of the lithium battery can be effectively managed to ensure the safety of charging and prolong the service life of the lithium battery.  相似文献

In order to efficiently absorb more regenerative braking energy which sustains much longer compared with the conventional vehicle, and guarantee the safety of the hybrid system under the actual driving cycle of locomotive, an energy management control based on dynamic factor strategy is proposed for a scale-down locomotive system which consists of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) and battery pack. The proposed strategy which has self-adaption function for different driving cycles aims to achieve the less consumption of hydrogen and higher efficiency of the hybrid system. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed strategy is able to maintain the charge state of battery (SOC) better than Equivalent Consumption Minimization Strategy (ECMS), and the proposed strategy could keep the change trend of SOC, which the final SOC is closed to the target value regardless of the initial SOC of battery. Moreover, the hydrogen consumption has been reduced by 0.86g and the efficiency of overall system has been raised of 2% at least than ECMS under the actual driving cycle through the proposed strategy. Therefore, the proposed strategy could improve the efficiency of system by diminishing the conversion process of energy outputted by fuel cell.  相似文献
