Although it has been argued that the design of production systems is crucial, there is a general lack of empirical studies analysing and identifying resources and capabilities required for an efficient production system design process. One of these resources is the critical role attributed to design information and one such capability is how the design information is managed. To address this research gap, this paper reports the results from two in-depth case studies in the automotive industry focusing on the management of design information in the production system design process. Our results show that design information management needs to be understood as a multidimensional concept having three dimensions: acquiring, sharing and using design information. By focusing on the three dimensions, six characteristics affecting the management of design information when designing the production system are identified. The characteristics are information type, source of information, communication medium, formalisation, information quality and pragmatic information. 相似文献

Many different studies have stressed the importance of co-operation in engineering design. This paper is based on an empirical study carried out over 18 months and based on fieldwork where the researcher worked in a design team as a mechanical engineer. The question of product–process integration is particularly critical in mechanical engineering and requires the development of specific co-operative procedures. Our results stress the importance of artefacts as intermediary objects in the design process and more specifically in the development of co-operative processes. We developed a framework centred on three conceptual levels:
• At product level, where we developed specific artefacts within a CAD environment, referred to herein as co-operating features,
• At organisation level, where we stress the importance of developing organisational learning and a new interface role,
• At actor level, where we stress the importance of developing reflective practices.
This conceptual framework aims to provide a foundation to develop instrumental settings for design co-operation. 相似文献

Conventional process capability analysis is used to measure and control the quality level of a production process in real exercises for on-line quality management. There has been a deficiency in this type of management; namely, the defects which occur in the production process are only passively detected and modified afterwards. Additionally, conventional process capability expression has difficulty distinguishing between alternatives for process selection among possible candidates before process realisation. There is, therefore, considerable motivation for developing a process capability expression which can be used to evaluate alternatives at the beginning of the process design, i.e., off-line application. The conventional Cpm expression is built up by measuring mean deviation and process variances for on-line application. However, if Cpm is used for the process capability analysis for process design, an erroneous Cpm value is found and an inappropriate process design is ended. Thus, the proposed process capability expression revised from the conventional Cpm in consideration of the balance between tolerance cost and quality loss has been developed. This development is the main contribution of this research and, with this development, the appropriate mean and tolerance values can be determined simultaneously prior to the real production process so as to maximise the proposed process capability value. The production is then processed with the pre-determined mean and tolerance values in a real production process. The expectation after process realisation is that the produced responses will be the best of all the alternatives in terms of quality and cost, and that the process capability value obtained after the real production process will be close to the proposed process capability value maximised prior to the real production process. 相似文献

This study presents an experimental investigation dealing with the support value of sketching activity in the early stages
of the design process. The main focus is the process of sketching, including the sketching activity and the simultaneous use
of the produced sketches. Sketching has a positive impact on the quality of the designed solution and on the individual experience
of the design process. The quality of the solution concepts increases from entirely mental design problem solving without
external support over partly supported to completely supported problem solving. On the basis of a representative case, the
procedure of sketching and the activities performed while generating a design solution are analysed. A continuous change between
internal mental and external materializing activities can be seen in the design process.

This article proposes a novel collaborative optimization (NCO) framework that uses a persuasive multi-agent negotiation method for satellite system design. Satellite system design is a typical multi-disciplinary design optimization problem. The traditional collaborative optimization (CO) is a competitive method but has the disadvantage of inefficient convergence caused by the interdisciplinary compatibility constraints in system-level optimization. By introducing the multi-agent negotiation method, an NCO framework is proposed, in which the system-level and subsystem-level variable negotiations replace the system-level compatibility constraints in traditional CO. The negotiation introduces a modification for candidate values that do not satisfy the compatibility constraints, ensures that an alternative compatible candidate will be obtained and has high convergence efficiency. Two numerical benchmark functions and a multi-disciplinary satellite system design are used to analyse the performance of the proposed NCO. The simulation results show that NCO can efficiently ensure parameter interdisciplinary matching and advanced convergence performance. 相似文献

An attempt has been made to develop a generalised system for the generation of process plan for the manufacture of micro parts in this work. It has two components; first one deals with automatic part feature extraction from feature-based model and second one performs the execution of process planning activities in accordance with feature using knowledge-based system approach. The proposed system maps extensible markup language (XML) data for the feature based-model and produces the corresponding manufacturing activities needed for the manufacture of micro parts. The process plan modules considered in this work includes process sequence, tools and fixtures, process parameters selection and set-up plan generation. An attempt has been made to develop process parameters selection module based on experimental investigation and optimisation apart from manufacturing catalogues and user manuals. Feature extraction through XML files avoids complex feature extraction process. The application of the developed system has been verified with a case study. The present system is limited to micro turn-mill features. Incorporation of more micro features and consideration of other activities of process plan ensures a complete process planning system for micro-machining processes. 相似文献
