Letr>1. For eachn1, let {X nk , –<k<} be a sequence of independent real random variables. We provide some very relaxed conditions which will guarantee for every >0. This result is used to establish some results on complete convergence for weighted sums of independent random variables. The main idea is that we devise an effetive way of combining a certain maximal inequality of Hoffmann-Jørgensen and rates of convergence in the Weak Law of Large Numbers to establish results on complete convergence of weighted sums of independent random variables. New results as well as simple new proofs of known ones illustrate the usefulness of our method in this context. We show further that this approach can be used in the study of almost sure convergence for weighted sums of independent random variables. Convergence rates in the almost sure convergence of some summability methods ofiid random variables are also established.  相似文献

A number of exponential inequalities for identically distributed negatively dependent and negatively associated random variables have been established by many authors. The proofs use the truncation technique together with the control of the bounded terms and unbounded terms. In this paper, we improve essentially the control of bounds for the unbounded terms and obtain exponential inequalities for negatively dependent random variables which include negatively associated random variables. In this paper, the complete convergence of weighted sums for ρ*-mixing sequence of random variables is investigated. By applying moment inequality and truncation methods, the equivalent conditions of complete convergence of weighted sums for ρ*-mixing sequence of random variables are established. We not only promote and improve the results of Li et al. (J. Theoret. Probab., 1995, 8(1): 49-76) from i.i.d. to ρ*-mixing setting but also obtain their necessities and relax their conditions.  相似文献

A new technique is developed which allows to study quasimartingales with values in a Banach space E via real quasimartingales. As a byproduct path compactness for a wide class of E-valued quasimartingales is proved. The first application of this technique yields the equivalence of a.s. convergence and path compactness for E-valued martingales. Furthermore local decomposability of an E-valued semimartingale into a square integrable martingale and a process of integrable variation is established. Finally, it is shown that each process of integrable variation, with values in a Banach space with Radon-Nikodym property, can be approximated by processes taking values in a finite-dimensional subspace.  相似文献

Functional central limit theorems for triangular arrays of rowwise independent stochastic processes are established by a method replacing tail probabilities by expectations throughout. The main tool is a maximal inequality based on a preliminary version proved by P. Gaenssler and Th. Schlumprecht. Its essential refinement used here is achieved by an additional inequality due to M. Ledoux and M. Talagrand. The entropy condition emerging in our theorems was introduced by K. S. Alexander, whose functional central limit theorem for so-calledmeasure-like processeswill be also regained. Applications concern, in particular, so-calledrandom measure processeswhich include function-indexed empirical processes and partial-sum processes (with random or fixed locations). In this context, we obtain generalizations of results due to K. S. Alexander, M. A. Arcones, P. Gaenssler, and K. Ziegler. Further examples include nonparametric regression and intensity estimation for spatial Poisson processes.  相似文献
