A dual in-plane electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) system has been developed for in situ measurements. The optical setup is described here. The system uses an electro-optical switch to change between the illumination directions for x and y sensitivity. The ability of the electro-optic device to change the polarization of the laser light forms the basis of this switch. The electro-optic device is a liquid-crystal layer cemented between two optically flat glass plates. An electric field can be set up across the layer by application of a voltage to electrodes. The speckle interferometry system incorporates two additional liquid-crystal devices to facilitate phase shifting, and the overall system is controlled by advanced software, which allows switching between the two perpendicular planes in quasi real time. The fact that there are no moving parts is an advantage in any ESPI system for which mechanical stability is vital.  相似文献

The advantages of spatial phase shifting (SPS) compared with temporal phase shifting in the field of electronic speckle pattern interferometry are described. Some periodic phase reconstruction errors occurring in SPS are discussed. It is shown that these errors become minimal for a spatial phase-shift angle of 2pi/3. Furthermore, a modified phase reconstruction formula is presented by which the noise in the reconstructed phase map is reduced.  相似文献

A simple, yet powerful, means of computing the phase of fringe patterns depicting dynamic phenomena is presented. It is shown that the basic principle of the phase-shifting methods can be extended to the case of dynamic situations. The crux is to recognize that the phenomenon under examination can itself provide the necessary incremental phase shifts. This new method possesses a very wide range of applications in the field of deformation measurement.  相似文献

Hitherto no method, to our knowledge, was known to incorporate spatial phase shifting for the measurement of pure in-plane displacements. We demonstrate that the modified Duffy two-aperture configuration [Opt. Lett. 22, 1958 (1996)], which is sensitive to only the in-plane displacement component and offers increased sensitivity, lends itself to measurement with spatial phase shifting. The configuration can also be used for obtaining displacement derivatives by the introduction of shear with the tilt of a mirror.  相似文献

Electronic speckle pattern interferometry combined with phase-shifting techniques for vibration analysis of logs is presented. Changes in the vibration pattern were followed on a television monitor at the video rate. We determined resonant vibrations by scanning through the frequency range of interest and by changing the point of excitation. We observed bending and torsional modes of vibration by changing the support and point of excitation. The vibrational modes reflect the structural properties of the material. The longitudinal modulus of elasticity and the shear modulus were calculated, giving valuable information for the strength grading of logs.  相似文献

Spatial phase shifting technique in digital speckle pattern interferometry (DSPI) and digital shearography (DS) provides the phase information due to the object displacement from two images, one stored before and other after loading. The technique needs a carrier fringe system. The double aperture mask in front of the imaging system is one of the methods for introducing the spatial carrier frequency for phase evaluation. The size of the apertures and their separation are important criteria to obtain appropriate phase shift/column within the desired size of the speckle for phase retrieval. The assumptions of constant intensity and phase on adjacent pixels of the camera while calculating phase in spatial phase shifting (SPS) are not met as the speckled object wave contains intensity and phase gradients, resulting in distortions in the calculated phase profiles. In this paper we discuss a strategy to overcome these problems. The contrast of the correlation fringe obtained using this approach is much improved. It also eliminates the distortion in the unwrapped phase map like wave ripples. The experimental results on an edge clamped circular plate loaded at the center are presented.  相似文献

The recently developed technique of high-speed phase-shifting speckle interferometry combined with temporal phase unwrapping allows dynamic displacement fields to be measured, even for objects containing global discontinuities such as cracks or boundaries. However, when local speckle averaging is included, small phase errors introduced at each time step are accumulated along the time axis, yielding total phase values that depend strongly on the speckle rereference rate. We present an analysis of the errors introduced in the phase evaluation by three sources: intensity errors, velocity errors, and speckle decorrelation. These errors are analyzed when they act both independently and together, for the most commonly used phase-shifting algorithms, with computer-generated speckle patterns. It is shown that, in a controlled out-of-plane geometry, errors in the unwrapped phase map that are due to speckle decorrelation rise as the time between rereferencing events is increased, whereas those due to intensity and velocity errors are reduced. It is also shown that speckle decorrelation errors are typically more important than the intensity and velocity errors. These results provide guidance as to the optimal speckle rereferencing rate in practical applications of the technique.  相似文献

We have developed an accurate and robust phase-estimation method in phase-shifting electronic speckle pattern interferometry. Unlike other methods that assume a constant phase within a fitting window, our method treats the phase variation with a gradient. A cost function that can utilize the information of pixel positions is formulated on the basis of a least-squares criterion. Powell's iteration method is applied to it to derive the phase and its gradient. An automatic consistency-checking routine and an algorithm that improves the initial guess of the iteration are developed for severe situations with large noise and steep phase variations.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce the radial basis function (RBF) interpolation method to electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) and propose the RBF interpolation method to obtain unwrapped phase values based on a skeleton map. Because of the excellent approximation properties of the RBF interpolation, the proposed method can extract accurate phase values from a single fringe pattern effectively, even using a simple 3×3 mean filter as preprocessing. Using our method, both special filtering methods for ESPI fringes as preprocessing and postprocessing, including a dilatation and erosion algorithm for pruning and connecting and the smooth algorithm for improving the phase values are not needed. We test our method on a computer-simulated and two experimentally obtained poor-quality fringe patterns. The results have demonstrated that our RBF interpolation method works well even under a seriously disconnected skeleton map where it is impossible to apply the widely used, Matlab function grid data interpolation or the backpropagation neural networks method [Appl. Opt. 46, 7475 (2007)].  相似文献

We describe a double-pulse electronic-speckle-interferometry system. Two separate speckle patterns of an object being tested are recorded within a few microseconds with a CCD camera. Their two images are stored in a frame grabber. The fringes obtained from subtraction are quantitatively analyzed by the spatial-carrier phase-shift method. Using three directions of illumination and one direction of observation, one can record at the same time all the information necessary for the reconstruction of the three-dimensional deformation vector. Applications of this system for measuring the rotating objects are discussed for the case for which a derotator needs to be used. Experimental results are presented.  相似文献

A simple method is presented for the measurement of in-plane rotation (angle and sign) of an object by use of the conventional in-plane sensitive electronic speckle pattern interferometry technique combined with the two-wavelength laser diode method. The advantage of this method is that it can be used to measure the angle of rotation in a simple way by determination of fringe tilt. The experimental setup is described, and results are presented.  相似文献

We propose the use of the wavelet transform to characterize the time evolution of dynamic speckle patterns. We describe it by using as an example a method used for the assessment of the drying of paint. Optimal texture features are determined and the time evolution is described in terms of the Mahalanobis distance to the final (dry) state. From the behavior of this distance function, two parameters are defined that characterize the evolution. Because detailed knowledge of the involved dynamics is not required, the methodology could be implemented for other complex or poorly understood dynamic phenomena.  相似文献

Temporal and spatial phase shifting in electronic speckle-pattern interferometry are compared quantitatively with respect to the quality of the resultant deformation phase maps. On the basis of an analysis of the noise in sawtooth fringes a figure of merit is defined and measured for various in-plane and out-of-plane sensitive electronic speckle-pattern interferometry configurations. Varying quantities like the object-illuminating intensity, the beam ratio, the speckle size and shape, and the fringe density allows characteristic behaviors of both phase-shifting methods to be explored.  相似文献

Characteristics of the fringe pattern detected by an electronic speckle pattern interferometer, in conditions in which a test object deforms in an arbitrary direction and the speckle intensity is detected over a pixel area in the TV camera to be used, have been investigated from two aspects: speckle noise reduction and fringe contrast. The main result is that the fringes are obtained with high contrast and low speckle noise, if the speckle size is selected by the optical system so as to be smaller than the pixel size. This result is applicable to highly accurate measurements of the out-of-plane displacements of the test object, whose in-plane displacement is small.  相似文献

A dynamic electronic speckle pattern interferometry method is applied to investigate thermal expansion of a joint material (ceramic-stainless steel) as a practical industrial object. The speckle interference signal is considered in the temporal domain and the phase is analyzed by the Hilbert transform method. Errors caused by the bias and modulation variations over the phase values are first examined by numerical simulation. Two experiments are performed with in-plane and out-of-plane sensitive systems to study the 3D deformation field thoroughly. The deformation field showed clearly the difference between the thermal expansions of the stainless steel and ceramic. It was also revealed that the boundary of materials and its vicinity suffer very large thermal strain due to the significantly large difference in the linear coefficient of thermal expansions.  相似文献

Fringe-visibility issues of additive-subtractive phase-modulated (ASPM) electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) are explored. ASPM ESPI is a three-step method in which additive-speckle images are acquired rapidly in an analog fashion in every frame of a video sequence, a speckle phase modulation is intentionally introduced between frames, and a digital subtraction of consecutive pairs of additive-speckle images is performed. We show that this scheme has the good high-frequency noise immunity associated with additive-ESPI techniques as well as the good fringe visibility associated with subtractive-ESPI techniques. The method has better fringe visibility than can be obtained with purely additive ESPI and also does not suffer from the fringe distortions that can occur with subtractive ESPI in the presence of high-frequency noise. We show that even if full speckle decorrelation were to occur between the two additive speckle images that are to be subtracted, the visibility of ASPM ESPI fringes can be made to approach unity by suitable adjustment of the reference-to-object beam-intensity ratio.  相似文献

Electronic speckle pattern interferometry is employed in many industrial fields as a useful deformation measurement method. However, two speckle patterns obtained before and after the deformation are necessary for measurement. Furthermore, at least three speckle patterns are required for high resolution measurement using ordinary fringe scanning technologies. In this paper, a novel method that can measure high speed deformations using a limited number of speckle patterns without using high speed cameras is proposed. The method enables application to dynamic deformation analysis because the method involves analysis using only two speckle patterns obtained before and after the deformation. A novel optical system that can record some spatial information into each speckle is set up for the method. In experimental results, it is confirmed that the out-of-plane deformation measurement can be precisely performed by the method and that the resolution power is almost equivalent to that of the ordinary method.  相似文献

Phase-shifting interferometry microscopy is applied to the analysis of corrosion pitting of a 304 stainless steel (with and without molybdenum-ion implantation) in NaCl solution. Owing to the dimensions of the pits two kinds of pit can be defined. The statistical analysis of the specimen-inspected field shows that small pits of area < 50 m2 are by far the most frequent. The different sizes of the pits can be related to the different stages of pit formation, pre-pitting and growth.  相似文献
