A new class of soft MIMO demodulation algorithms   总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8
We propose a new class of soft-input soft-output demodulation schemes for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels, based on the sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) framework under both stochastic and deterministic settings. The stochastic SMC sampler generates MIMO symbol samples based on importance sampling and resampling techniques, whereas the deterministic SMC approach recursively performs exploration and selection steps in a greedy manner. By exploiting the artificial sequential structure of the existing simple Bell-Labs layered space-time (BLAST) detection method based on ing and cancellation, the proposed algorithms achieve an error probability performance that is orders of magnitude better than the traditional BLAST detection schemes while maintaining a low computational complexity. In fact, the new methods offer performance comparable with that of the sphere decoding algorithm without attendant increase in complexity. More importantly, being soft-input soft-output in nature, both the stochastic and deterministic SMC detectors can be employed as the first-stage demodulator in a turbo receiver in coded MIMO systems. Such a turbo receiver successively improves the receiver performance by iteratively exchanging the so-called extrinsic information between the soft outer channel decoder and the inner soft MIMO demodulator under both known channel state and unknown channel state scenarios. Computer simulation results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithms.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the equalization and channel identification for space-time block coded signals over a frequency-selective multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel. The equalization has been considered by taking into account the cyclostationarity of space-time block coded signals. The minimum mean square error (MMSE) solutions have been derived for the linear and decision feedback (DF) equalizers. The channel estimation is required for the equalization. With known symbols (as pilot symbols), MIMO channels can be estimated. In addition, due to the redundancy induced by space-time block code, it is possible to identify MIMO channels blindly using the subspace method. We consider both blind and semi-blind channel estimation for MIMO channels. It is shown that the semi-blind channel estimate has fewer estimation errors, and it results in less (bit error rate) performance degradation of the MMSE linear and DF equalizers.  相似文献

This paper addresses the issue of iterative space–time equalization for multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) frequency-selective fading channels. A new soft equalization concept based on successive interference cancellation (SIC) is introduced for a space–time bit-interleaved coded modulation (STBICM) transmission. The proposed equalizer allows us to separate intersymbol interference (ISI) and multiantenna interference (MAI) functions. Soft ISI is successively suppressed using a low-complexity suboptimum minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion. The decoupling of ISI and MAI offers more flexibility in the design of the whole space–time equalizer. Different multiantenna detection criteria can be considered, ranging from simple detectors to the optimal maximum a posteriori (MAP) criterion. In particular, we introduce two soft equalizers, which are called SIC/SIC and SIC/MAP, and we show that they can provide a good performance-to-complexity tradeoff for many system configurations, as compared with other turbo equalization schemes. This paper also introduces an MMSE-based iterative channel state information (CSI) estimation algorithm and shows that attractive performance can be achieved when the proposed soft SIC space–time equalizer iterates with the MMSE-based CSI estimator.   相似文献

This paper deals with a receiver scheme where adaptive equalization and channel decoding are jointly optimized in an iterative process. This receiver scheme is well suited for transmissions over a frequency-selective channel with large delay spread and for high spectral efficiency modulations. A low-complexity soft-input soft-output M-ary channel decoder is proposed. Turbo equalization allows intersymbol interference to be reduced drastically. For most time-invariant discrete channels, the turbo-equalizer performance is close to the coded Gaussian channel performance, even for low signal-to-noise ratios. Finally, results over a time-varying frequency-selective channel proves the excellent behavior of the turbo equalizer  相似文献

Space-time turbo equalization in frequency-selective MIMO channels   总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11
A computationally efficient space-time turbo equalization algorithm is derived for frequency-selective multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) channels. The algorithm is an extension of the iterative equalization algorithm by Reynolds and Wang (see Signal Processing, vol.81, no.5, p.989-995, 2001) for frequency-selective fading channels and of iterative multiuser detection for code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems by Wang and Poor (see IEEE Trans. Commun., vol.47, p.1046-1061, 1999). The proposed algorithm is implemented as a MIMO detector consisting of a soft-input-soft-output (SISO) linear MMSE detector followed by SISO channel decoders for the multiple users. The detector first forms a soft replica of each composite interfering signal using the log likelihood ratio (LLR), fed back from the SISO channel decoders, of the transmitted coded symbols and subtracts it from the received signal vector. Linear adaptive filtering then takes place to suppress the interference residuals: filter taps are adjusted based on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion. The LLR is then calculated for adaptive filter output. This process is repeated in an iterative fashion to enhance signal-detection performance. This paper also discusses the performance sensitivity of the proposed algorithm to channel-estimation error. A channel-estimation scheme is introduced that works with the iterative MIMO equalization process to reduce estimation errors.  相似文献

We consider the application of the sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) methodology to the problem of blind symbol detection in a wireless orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) system over a frequency-selective fading channel. Bayesian inference of the unknown data symbols in the presence of an unknown multipath fading channel is made only from the observations over one OFDM symbol duration. A novel blind SMC detector built on the techniques of importance sampling and resampling is developed for differentially encoded OFDM systems. The performance of different schemes of delayed-weight estimation methods is studied. Furthermore, being soft-input and soft-output in nature, the proposed SMC detector is employed as the first-stage demodulator in a turbo receiver for a coded OFDM system. Such a turbo receiver successively improves the receiver performance by iteratively exchanging the so-called extrinsic information with the maximum a posteriori (MAP) outer channel decoder. Finally, the performance of the proposed sequential Monte Carlo receiver is demonstrated through computer simulations  相似文献

We propose low-complexity block turbo equalizers for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems in time-varying channels. The presented work is based on a soft minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) block linear equalizer (BLE) that exploits the banded structure of the frequency-domain channel matrix, as well as a receiver window that enforces this banded structure. This equalization approach allows us to implement the proposed designs with a complexity that is only linear in the number of subcarriers. Three block turbo equalizers are discussed: two are based on a biased MMSE criterion, while the third is based on the unbiased MMSE criterion. Simulation results show that the proposed iterative MMSE BLE achieves a better bit error rate (BER) performance than a previously proposed iterative MMSE serial linear equalizer (SLE). The proposed equalization algorithms are also tested in the presence of channel estimation errors.   相似文献

A novel multiuser separation and equalization scheme is proposed for single carrier wireless communication systems integrating frequency-domain (FD) multiuser turbo equalization (MUTE) and successive interference cancellation (SIC). The proposed iterative structure consists of multiple layers of detection, and at each layer the user with strongest power is processed by a frequency-domain multiuser equalizer to yield the soft extrinsic information on the coded bits of that user, which is delivered to a channel decoder after deinterleaving. The extrinsic information gleaned by the decoder is fed back to both the current and previous multiuser equalizers for the next iteration as a-priori information. The soft symbols of the current user are evaluated by the a-posteriori information of coded bits provided by the multiuser equalizer, and the interference reconstructed by the current user’s soft symbols is canceled out from the received signals in frequency domain. The interference-canceled signals are fed forward to subsequent layers for detection of other users. The proposed scheme effectively mitigates multiple access interference and intersymbol interference by an iterative (turbo) detection method. Numerical simulation examples demonstrate that the proposed FD MUTE with SIC outperforms the traditional MMSE multiuser equalizer over the severely doubly-selective channels, and the bit-error-rate performance tends to be better with the increase of iterations.  相似文献

Blind detection in MIMO systems via sequential Monte Carlo   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
We provide a novel sequential estimation and detection approach for multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems. The basic idea is to design a probabilistic approximation method for the computation of the maximum a posterior distribution (MAP) via the sequential Monte Carlo methods (SMC). The SMC method has two advantages over the other methods in that it is a blind method and can be computed in parallel. Furthermore, the SMC has characteristics of soft-input and soft-output in nature and, thus, it can be employed as the first stage demodulator in a turbo receiver for a coded MIMO system. Such a turbo receiver successively improves the receiver performance by iteratively exchanging the so-called extrinsic information with the MAP outer channel decoder. Finally, the performance of the proposed sequential Monte Carlo receiver is demonstrated through computer simulations for MIMO systems over single-path and multipath fading channels.  相似文献

We investigate turbo equalization, or iterative equalization and decoding, as a receiver technology for systems where data is protected by an error-correcting code, shuffled by an interleaver, and mapped onto a signal constellation for transmission over a frequency-selective channel with unknown time-varying channel impulse response. The focus is the concept of soft iterative channel estimation, which is to improve the channel estimate over the iterations by using soft information fed back from the decoder from the previous iteration to generate "extended training sequences" between the actual transmitted training sequences.  相似文献

This paper presents a new fractionally-spaced maximum a posteriori (MAP) equalizer for data transmission over frequency-selective fading channels. The technique is applicable to any standard modulation technique. The MAP equalizer uses an expanded hypothesis trellis for the purpose of joint channel estimation and equalization. The fading channel is estimated by coupling minimum mean square error techniques with the (fixed size) expanded trellis. The new MAP equalizer is also presented in an iterative (turbo) receiver structure. Both uncoded and conventionally coded systems (including iterative processing) are studied. Even on frequency-flat fading channels, the proposed receiver outperforms conventional techniques. Simulations demonstrate the performance of the proposed equalizer  相似文献

Modern wireless communications require an efficient spectrum usage and high channel capacity and throughput. Multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO), Linear equalizers, multi-user detection and multicarrier code-division multiple access (MC-CDMA) are possible solutions to achieve spectral efficiency, high channel capacity, eliminate multiple access interference (MAI), eliminate Inter symbol interference (ISI) and robustness against frequency selective fading. In this paper, we combine all these techniques and investigate BER performance. We propose a low complexity receiver structure for Single-input Multiple-output (SIMO) downlink MC-CDMA systems. It employs an interference cancellation scheme to suppress the interference caused by the multipath fading channel. Also, the proposed scheme is developed for MIMO MC-CDMA system. The performance analysis of Downlink MIMO MC-CDMA systems with V-BLAST over frequency selective fading channel is investigated under various number of transmit and receive antennas. The simulation results show proposed SIMO equalization with parallel interference cancellation scheme is effective in reducing the ISI and the MAI. It improves the performance significantly and the simulation results show that MIMO MC-CDMA with V-BLAST multi-user detection provides high data rate and the BER significant improvement.  相似文献

Finite-length delay-optimized multi-input multi-output (MIMO) equalizers that optimally shorten the impulse response memory of frequency-selective MIMO channels are derived. The MIMO equalizers are designed to minimize the average energy of the error sequence between the equalized MIMO channel impulse response and an MIMO target impulse response (TIR) with shorter memory. Two criteria for optimizing the MIMO TIR are analyzed and compared. The presented analytical framework encompasses a multitude of previously-studied finite-length equalization techniques  相似文献

We consider turbo-trellis-coded transmission over fading multiple-input-multiple-output (M1M0) channels with transmit diversity using space-time block codes. We give a new view on space-time block codes as a transformation of the fading MIMO channel towards a Gaussian single-input-single-output (siso) channel and provide analytical results on the BER of space-time block codes. Furthermore, we describe the concatenation of Turbo-TCM with a space-time block code and show that in addition to the transmit diversity substantial benefits can be obtained by turbo iterations as long as the channel is time-varying during transmission of a coded block or frequency hopping is applied. Finally, a double iterative scheme for turbo equalization and turbo decoding of the concatenation of Turbo-TCM and space-time block code in frequency-selective MIMO channels is described.  相似文献

We consider the problem of demodulating and decoding multiuser information symbols in an uplink asynchronous coded code-division multiple-access (CDMA) system employing long (aperiodic) spreading sequences, in the presence of unknown multipath channels, out-cell multiple-access interference (OMAI), and narrow-band interference (NBI). A blind turbo multiuser receiver, consisting of a novel blind Bayesian multiuser detector and a bank of MAP decoders, is developed for such a system. The effect of OMAI and NBI is modeled as colored Gaussian noise with some unknown covariance matrix. The main contribution of this paper is to develop blind Bayesian multiuser detectors for long-code multipath CDMA systems under both white and colored Gaussian noise. Such detectors are based on the Bayesian inference of all unknown quantities. The Gibbs sampler, a Markov chain Monte Carlo procedure, is then used to calculate the Bayesian estimates of the unknowns. The blind Bayesian multiuser detector computes the a posteriori probabilities of the channel coded symbols, which are differentially encoded before being sent to the channel. Being soft-input soft-output in nature, the proposed blind Bayesian multiuser detectors and the MAP decoders can iteratively exchange the extrinsic information to successively refine the performance, leading to the so-called blind turbo multiuser receiver  相似文献

Downlink transmission of broadband OFCDM systems-part IV: soft decision   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, the performance of turbo-coded orthogonal frequency and code-division multiplexing (OFCDM) systems is investigated with soft multicode interference (MCI) cancellation and minimum mean-square error (MMSE) detection for downlink transmission in future high-speed wireless communications. To regenerate the soft interference signal, the conventional turbo decoding algorithm must be modified to provide log-likelihood ratio (LLR) values for all coded bits. Based on the LLR outputs of turbo decoder, two soft-decision functions are proposed, called LLR-soft-decision and Gaussian-soft-decision functions. The Gaussian assumptions used for deriving these two soft functions are verified by simulation results, and simple methods are proposed to estimate parameters used in the soft functions in practical systems. By means of computer simulations, the performance of soft MCI cancellation is studied extensively and compared with that of hard ones. It is shown that in a highly frequency-selective channel, soft MCI cancellation and MMSE detection can significantly improve the performance of turbo-coded OFCDM systems. Two iterations in turbo decoding are sufficient for both hard and soft-decision functions. The proposed soft-decision functions outperform the hard-decision function with various channel conditions and system parameters, such as the channel correlation, the quality of channel estimation, the number of iterations in turbo decoding and the frequency-domain spreading factor (N/sub F/). Furthermore, the Gaussian-soft-decision function provides better performance than the LLR-soft-decision function. Finally, although frequency diversity gain is saturated for large channel correlation when N/sub F/ is large as in , the gain increases further with increasing N/sub F/ for small channel correlation even when N/sub F/ is large.  相似文献

Blind turbo equalization in Gaussian and impulsive noise   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
We consider the problem of simultaneous parameter estimation and restoration of finite-alphabet symbols that are blurred by an unknown linear intersymbol interference (ISI) channel and contaminated by additive Gaussian or non-Gaussian white noise with unknown parameters. Non-Gaussian noise is found in many wireless channels due to the impulsive phenomena of radio-frequency interference. Bayesian inference of all unknown quantities is made from the blurred and noisy observations. The Gibbs sampler, a Markov chain Monte Carlo procedure, is employed to calculate the Bayesian estimates. The basic idea is to generate ergodic random samples from the joint posterior distribution of all unknowns and then to average the appropriate samples to obtain the estimates of the unknown quantities. Blind Bayesian equalizers based on the Gibbs sampler are derived for both Gaussian ISI channel and impulsive ISI channel. A salient feature of the proposed blind Bayesian equalizers is that they can incorporate the a priori symbol probabilities, and they produce as output the a posteriori symbol probabilities. (That is, they are “soft-input soft-output” algorithms.) Hence, these methods are well suited for iterative processing in a coded system, which allows the blind Bayesian equalizer to refine its processing based on the information from the decoding stage and vice versa-a receiver structure termed as blind turbo equalizer  相似文献
