We describe a novel optical acoustic detector based on a bias-controlled fiber Fabry-Perot interferometer. The detector has a broad bandwidth from 10 Mhz to a few gigahertz and higher sensitivity than conventional systems, which are useful for noncontact characterization of microsamples based on laser ultrasound.  相似文献

A three-dimensional photoacoustic imaging method is presented that uses a Mach-Zehnder interferometer for measurement of acoustic waves generated in an object by irradiation with short laser pulses. The signals acquired with the interferometer correspond to line integrals over the acoustic wave field. An algorithm for reconstruction of a three-dimensional image from such signals measured at multiple positions around the object is shown that is a combination of a frequency-domain technique and the inverse Radon transform. From images of a small source scanning across the interferometer beam it is estimated that the spatial resolution of the imaging system is in the range of 100 to about 300 mum, depending on the interferometer beam width and the size of the aperture formed by the scan length divided by the source-detector distance. By taking an image of a phantom it could be shown that the imaging system in its present configuration is capable of producing three-dimensional images of objects with an overall size in the range of several millimeters to centimeters. Strategies are proposed how the technique can be scaled for imaging of smaller objects with higher resolution.  相似文献

This paper describes a fiber optic sensor suitable for noncontact detection of ultrasonic waves. This sensor is based on the fiber optic Sagnac interferometer, which has a path-matched configuration and does not require active stabilization. Quadrature phase bias between two interfering laser beams in the Sagnac loop is applied by controlling the birefringence using a fiber polarization controller. A stable quadrature phase bias can be confirmed by observing the interferometer output according to the change of phase bias. Additional signal processing is not needed for the detection of ultrasonic waves using the Sagnac interferometer. Ultrasonic oscillations produced by conventional ultrasonic piezoelectric transducers were successfully detected, and the performance of this interferometer was investigated by a power spectrum analysis of the output signal. Based on the validation of the fiber optic Sagnac interferometer, noncontact detection of laser-generated surface waves was performed. The configured Sagnac interferometer is very effective for the detection of small displacement with high frequency, such as ultrasonic waves used in conventional nondestructive testing (NDT)  相似文献

基于兰姆波的结构工况检测技术在评估复合材料和金属结构的安全性和耐久性方面发挥着重要的作用。作为对传统的压电换能器(PZT)的一种很好的替代,光纤传感器在传感方面的应用正被广泛地挖掘出来,包括兰姆波检测。本文从理论上建立了超声兰姆波作用下光纤非本征法布里.玻罗(EFPI)传感器参数与其输出性能之间的关系。数值结果显示了传感器的性能与其相对于声源的方向角以及传感器的计量长度与超声波长的比值相关。所得出的结论对于EFPI传感器精确地探测兰姆波提供了理论依据。  相似文献

In this work, a new method for the detection of the negative effects of a particular unbalanced voltage and inverter harmonics on the performance of an induction motor using fiber sensors is proposed. Supplying a three-phase induction motor with unbalanced voltages causes an oscillating electromagnetic torque that generates vibrations, increased losses, efficiency reduction, and an extra temperature rise that leads to a reduction on insulation life of the machine. A new in-line fiber etalon accelerometer has been designed to detect these vibrations in the range DC-500 Hz. The in-line fiber etalon scheme used provides high robustness and stability, giving enough sensitivity to monitor the low-frequency and low-amplitude oscillations in the stator of the machine that exist in a voltage unbalance situation. To prove this claim, a 1.5-kW squirrel cage induction motor is analyzed under different unbalance levels. It is shown that a precise unbalance factor can be detected without accessing to the electric part of the machine and an accurate monitoring can be obtained using the high-resolution analysis proposed.  相似文献

The effect of a circular configuration of intense vertical immersed tubes on the hydrodynamic parameters has been investigated in a gas-solid fluidized bed of 0.14?m inside diameter. The experiments were performed using glass beads solid particles of 365?μm average particle size, with a solid density of 2500?kg/m3 (Geldart B). An advanced optical fiber probe technique was used to study the behavior of six essential local hydrodynamic parameters (i.e., local solids holdup, particles velocity, bubble rise velocity, bubble frequency, and bubble mean chord length) in the presence of vertical immersed tubes. The experimental measurements were carried out at six radial positions and three axial heights, which represent the three key zones of the bed: near the distributor plate, the middle of the fluidizing bed, and near the freeboard of the column. Furthermore, four superficial gas velocities (u/umf?=?1.6, 1.76, 1.96, and 2.14) were employed to study the effect of operating conditions. The experimental results demonstrated that the vertical internals had a significant effect on all the studied local hydrodynamic characteristics such that when using internals, both the solids holdup and bubble mean chord length decreased, while the particles velocity, bubble rise velocity, and bubble frequency increased. The measured values of averaged bubble rise velocities and averaged bubble chord lengths at different axial heights and superficial gas velocities have been compared with most used correlations available in the literature. It was found that the measured values are in good agreement with values calculated using predicted correlation for the case without vertical internals. While, the absolute percentage relative error between the measured and calculated values of these two hydrodynamic parameters indicate large differences for the case of vertical internals.  相似文献

We present a new approach for the development of a highly stable optical fiber refractometer based on a path-matching differential interferometer. Exploiting a single-channel phase tracker and new synthetic heterodyne demodulations, one can eliminate the thermal drift on a piezoelectric transducer stack as a phase modulator by subtraction. A transducer in a differential Fabry-Perot refractometer is designed to compensate for the thermal effects not only from thermal expansion but also from the thermo-optic effect. The experimental data show that the refractive-index change in the sensing system can be kept at a level of approximately 5 x 10(-4) without serious variations for a 1-h period of long-term monitoring associated with a temperature variation of from 25 to 50 degrees C. Accordingly, the proposed new system can be easily implemented and used as a long-term monitoring system for medical care applications such as monitoring patients during drug injection.  相似文献

We report on an amplitude-division-multiplexed interferometric sensor array for locating acoustic emission. Preliminary experiments were carried out with a modified Mach-Zehnder interferometer consisting of two sensing arms and a reference arm and demonstrated a one-dimensional location accuracy of a few centimeters. The system can be extended for two- and three-dimensional location of acoustic emissions by the addition of one or two more sensing arms, respectively, in the interferometer.  相似文献

A model of the reflected fringe system for an ideal plane-parallel, low-finesse Fabry-Perot (FP) cavity illuminated by a multimode optical fiber has been developed and experimentally validated. This showed that the phase dispersion within the cavity arising from the divergent nature of the incident illumination significantly degrades the visibility of the reflected fringes. Departures from the ideal FP cavity are also examined. The effect on fringe visibility when the plane of the FP cavity is tilted with respect to the fiber axis and when the cavity surfaces are no longer perfectly parallel to each other has been explored. The analysis described is relevant to the design and the optimization of multimode optical-fiber sensors that use FP sensing cavities.  相似文献

An optical fiber interferometer of the Mach-Zehnder type has proved to be a convenient and accurate method for measuring the electric wind in the active region of a corona discharge. The technique relies on the cooling effect of the wind on a small heated region of one arm of the interferometer, which has been remotely heated with an infrared CO(2) laser beam. Wind speeds of up to 5.5 m s(-1) have been measured near the generation region, and by the use of a mesh electrode, the wind has been detected on the axis up to 0.5 m away from the gap. A number of characterization experiments that show the interferometer to be a useful diagnostic tool in the quantitative analysis of the CO(2) laser beam have also been carried out, and good agreement between experimental results and theoretical calculations based on a simple heat-power balance equation for the fiber exists.  相似文献

A high-precision positioning stage based on an optical zooming interferometer is proposed. Two external-cavity diode lasers, stabilized to a femtosecond optical frequency comb, are used as optical sources. The zooming principle is demonstrated, and the positioning resolution of 0.2 nm is achieved. The positioning accuracy was partly evaluated.  相似文献

A temperature sensor was demonstrated and fabricated by coating thermosensitive film around a fiber coupler. Based on the multicladding equivalent method, the coated fiber coupler was simplified to a conventional one. With the high thermo-optical coefficient of organic-inorganic solgel material, a good sensing result was achieved. The range of temperature measured is from -50 to 100 degrees C. The resonant wavelength has a shift of about 25 nm. A sensitivity of 0.17 nm/degrees C is achieved. With the advantages of having a simple structure and being unaffected by the instability of the light source, the proposed fiber coupler temperature sensor will find wide applications.  相似文献

To prevent fraud by use of replicas of human fingers for identity verification, we propose to check variations in color and in a series of previously acquired fingerprint images. Movement of a finger on a human hand induces blood movement, and light scattered inside the finger carries this life-related information. In experiments, we found characteristic changes in color and luminance extracted from the central parts of fingerprint images. Some criteria for recognition of living tissue were tested with input provided by more than 30 participants. Inasmuch as the response of a human body to an external stimulus can be checked by our method with no additional components, this technology can raise the security level of a fingerprint identification system.  相似文献

An acoustic fiber sensor for measurement of ultrasonic waves, which used the approximate Raman-Nath diffraction effect where light diffraction waves were generated in an optical fiber by strain due to the ultrasonic waves, was proposed and examined. In order to characterize the acoustic fiber sensor as a basic study, measurements of low-frequency ultrasonic waves in water were examined using a step index fiber operating as a detection sensor. The results showed that characteristics of detected signals agreed with the theoretical prediction based on Fraunhofer diffraction. This indicates that our proposed fiber sensor can be used for the detection of low-frequency ultrasonic waves as well as the transmission of light diffraction signals.  相似文献

We observed a spatial effect of the light entrainment at a wavelength of λ=0.63299 μm by an optical disk with a radius of R 0=0.06 m rotating at a frequency of ω=25 Hz. A relative shift of the interference pattern, monitored by the time of the interference band motion across the aperture of a photodetector for the disk rotating in the opposite directions, amounts to Δ=0.0094±0.0025 of the interference bandwidth.  相似文献

We report the application of an integrated optical Young interferometer sensor for ultrasensitive, real-time, direct detection of viruses. We have validated the sensor by detecting herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), but the principle is generally applicable. Detection of HSV-1 virus particles was performed by applying the virus sample onto a sensor surface coated with a specific antibody against HSV-1. The performance of the sensor was tested by monitoring virus samples at clinically relevant concentrations. We show that the Young interferometer sensor can specifically and sensitively detect HSV-1 at very low concentrations (850 particles/mL). We have further demonstrated that the sensor can specifically detect HSV-1 suspended in serum. Extrapolation of the results indicates that the sensitivity of the sensor approaches the detection of a single virus particle binding, yielding a sensor of unprecedented sensitivity with wide applications for viral diagnostics.  相似文献
