This paper is devoted to a general similarity boundary layer equation for power-law fluids, which includes many important similarity boundary layer problems such as the Falker-Skan equation and the magnetohydrodynamic boundary layer equation which arises in the study of self-similar solutions of the two-dimensional steady laminar boundary layer flow for an incompressible electrically conducting power-law fluids along an isolated surface in the presence of an exterior magnetic field orthogonal to the flow. By a rigorous mathematical analysis, the uniqueness, existence and nonexistence results for convex solutions, normal convex solutions and generalized convex solutions to the general similarity boundary layer equation are established. Also the asymptotic behavior of the normal convex solutions at the infinity are displayed.  相似文献

Boundary-value problems for fourth-order linear partial differential equations of hyperbolic and composite types are studied. The method of energy inequalities and averaging operators with variable step is used to prove existence and uniqueness theorems for strong solutions. The Riesz theorem on the representation of linear continuous functionals in Hilbert spaces is used to prove the existence and uniqueness theorems for generalized solutions.  相似文献

We prove existence and uniqueness of the gradient flow of the Entropy functional under the only assumption that the functional is λ-geodesically convex for some ${\lambda\in\mathbb {R}}$ . Also, we prove a general stability result for gradient flows of geodesically convex functionals which Γ?converge to some limit functional. The stability result applies directly to the case of the Entropy functionals on compact spaces.  相似文献

In this paper, we study a class of second order differential inclusions attached to which the convex potential varies depending on the time, and the boundary conditions are described by the subdifferentials of convex functions. Applying the theory of lower semicontinuous, convex and proper functionals, and fixed points, we give some results about the representation of the subdifferential operators of some convex functionals and the existence of solutions for the boundary value problems.  相似文献

We are concerned with a deformation theory in locally convex topological linear spaces. A special "nice" partition of unity is given. This enables us to construct certain vector fields which are locally Lipschitz continuous with respect to the locally convex topology. The existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence of flows associated to the vector fields are established. Deformations related to strongly indefinite functionals are then obtained. Finally, as applications, we prove some abstract critical point theorems.  相似文献

In this paper convex solutions and concave solutions of polynomial-like iterative equations are investigated. A result for non-monotonic solutions is given first and applied then to prove the existence of convex continuous solutions and concave ones. Furthermore, another condition for convex solutions, which is weaker in some aspects, is also given. The uniqueness and stability of those solutions are also discussed.  相似文献

We consider an abstract class of variational–hemivariational inequalities which arise in the study of a large number of mathematical models of contact. The novelty consists in the structure of the inequalities which involve two history-dependent operators and two nondifferentiable functionals, a convex and a nonconvex one. For these inequalities we provide an existence and uniqueness result of the solution. The proof is based on arguments of surjectivity for pseudomonotone operators and fixed point. Then, we consider a viscoelastic problem in which the contact is frictionless and is modeled with a new boundary condition which describes both the instantaneous and the memory effects of the foundation. We prove that this problem leads to a history-dependent variational–hemivariational inequality in which the unknown is the displacement field. We apply our abstract result in order to prove the unique weak solvability of this viscoelastic contact problem.  相似文献

We consider a class of elliptic systems leading to strongly indefinite functionals, with nonlinearities which involve a combination of concave and convex terms. Using variational methods, we prove the existence of infinitely many large and small energy solutions. Our approach relies on new critical point theorems which guarantee the existence of infinitely many critical values of a wide class of strongly indefinite even functionals. Our abstract critical points theorems generalize the fountain theorems of T. Bartsch and M. Willem.  相似文献

We introduce the family of law-invariant convex risk functionals, which includes a wide majority of practically used convex risk measures and deviation measures. We obtain a unified representation theorem for this family of functionals. Two related optimization problems are studied. In the first application, we determine worst-case values of a law-invariant convex risk functional when the mean and a higher moment such as the variance of a risk are known. Second, we consider its application in optimal reinsurance design for an insurer. With the help of the representation theorem, we can show the existence and the form of optimal solutions.  相似文献

Two heat diffusion problems in the framework of the parabolic phase-field model are presented. The first problem is related to a single isotropic fluid and the other describes the heat transmission between two different substances in contact. Some known existence and uniqueness results are briefly recalled. Then, an asymptotic analysis of both situations is carried out as the kinetic equation collapses to a temperature-phase relation of Stefan type, in the first case in the whole material, and in the second in only one of the substances. In both cases, a convergence result for the solutions is proved. The second problem shows some more mathematical difficulties that are due to the presence of nontrivial terms on the common boundary. In order to control the latter, some tools are used from the Γ-convergence theory for convex functionals.  相似文献

In this paper, the theory of Nash point equilibria for variational functionals including the following topics: existence in convex and non-convex cases, the applications to P. D. E., and the partial regularity, is studied. In the non-convex case, for a class of functionals, it is shown that the non-trivial solutions of the related systems of Euler equations are exactly the local Nash point equilibria and the trivial solution can not be a Nash point equilibrium.  相似文献

Non-convex functionals have shown sharper results in signal reconstruction as compared to convex ones, although the existence of a minimum has not been established in general. This paper addresses the study of a general class of either convex or non-convex functionals for denoising signals which combines two general terms for fitting and smoothing purposes, respectively. The first one measures how close a signal is to the original noisy signal. The second term aims at removing noise while preserving some expected characteristics in the true signal such as edges and fine details. A theoretical proof of the existence of a minimum for functionals of this class is presented. The main merit of this result is to show the existence of minimizer for a large family of non-convex functionals.  相似文献
