In this paper we study equivalent formulations of the DP? Pp (1 < p < ∞). We show that X has the DP? Pp if and only if every weakly-p-Cauchy sequence in X is a limited subset of X. We give su?cient conditions on Banach spaces X and Y so that the projective tensor product X ?π Y, the dual (X ?? Y)? of their injective tensor product, and the bidual (X ?π Y)?? of their projective tensor product, do not have the DP Pp, 1 < p < ∞. We also show that in some cases, the projective and the injective tensor products of two spaces do not have the DP? Pp, 1 < p < ∞.  相似文献

The unit sphere of Hilbert space, 2, is shown to contain a remarkable sequence of nearly orthogonal sets. Precisely, there exist a sequence of sets of norm one elements of 2, (C i ) i=1 , and reals i 0 so that a) each setC i has nonempty intersection with every infinite dimensional closed subspace of 2 and b) forij,xC, andyC j , |x, y|<min(i, j) E. Let X and Y be Banach spaces such that each of them is isomorphic to a complemented subspace of the other. In 1996, W. T. Gowers solved the Schroeder-Bernstein Problem for Banach spaces by showing that X is not necessarily isomorphic to Y. In this paper, we give suitable conditions on finite sums of X and Y to yield that Xm is isomorphic to Yn for some In other words, we obtain some extensions of the well-known Pełczyński decomposition method in Banach spaces. In order to do this, we introduce the notion of Nearly Schroeder-Bernstein Quadruples for Banach spaces and pose a Conjecture to characterise them. Received: 5 January 2005  相似文献

Let 1 ≤ p < ∞. We show that , the Fremlin projective tensor product of p with a Banach lattice X, has the Radon–Nikodym property if and only if X has the Radon–Nikodym property; and that , the Wittstock injective tensor product of p with a Banach lattice X, has the Radon–Nikodym property if and only if X has the Radon–Nikodym property and each positive operator from p' to X is compact, where 1/p +1/p'= 1 and let p' = c0 if p = 1. Let φ be an Orlicz function that has a complementary function φ* and let φ be an Orlicz sequence space. We prove two results in this paper. Result 1: , the Fremlin projective tensor product of φ with a Banach lattice X, has the Radon-Nikodym property if and only if both φ and X have the Radon-Nikodym property. Result 2: , the Wittstock injective tensor product of φ with a Banach lattice X, has the Radon-Nikodym property if and only if both φ and X have the Radon-Nikodym property and each positive continuous linear operator from hφ* to X is compact. It is shown that all Banach space operators which have Fourier type p(1 < p 2) with respect to a second countable locally compact abelian group G also have Fourier type p with respect to every closed discrete subgroup H of G. The same statement holds for any closed subgroup H of G when p = 2. Also shown as a corollary is that Fourier type 2 operators have Walsh type 2. Received: 10 June 2002  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper, the author introduces a new F-space the l βγ-sum of strictly convex normed spaces, and obtains the representation of onto isometry between the unit spheres, then concludes that such mappings can be extended to the whole space as real linear isometries.  相似文献

We prove two characterizations of new Cohen summing bilinear operators. The first one is: Let X, Y and Z be Banach spaces, 1 < p < ∞, V : X × Y → Z a bounded linear operator and n ≥ 2 a natural number. Then V is new Cohen p-summing if and only if for all Banach spaces X1,?…?, Xn and all p-summing operators U : X1 × · · · × XnX, the operator V ? (U, IY) : X1 × · · · × Xn × YZ is -summing. The second result is: Let H be a Hilbert space,, Y, Z Banach spaces and V : H × Y → Z a bounded bilinear operator and 1 < p < ∞. Then V is new Cohen p-summing if and only if for all Banach spaces E and all p-summing operators U : EH, the operator V ? (U, IY) is (p, p*)-dominated.  相似文献

Abstract

We present some results pointing out pairs E, F of Band spaces for which any polynomial P: EF is completely continuous. Hence we study local complete continuity of holomorphic functions.  相似文献

We give a short and direct proof for the computation of the Szlenk index of the C(K) spaces, when K is a countable compact space and determine their Lavrientiev indices. We also compute the Szlenk index of certain C(α) spaces, where α is an uncountable ordinal. Finally, we show that if the Szlenk index of a Banach space is ω (first infinite ordinal), then its weak*-dentability index is at most ω2 and that this estimate is optimal. For 1/p+1/q1, we study the closed ideal formed by the (c o ,p,q)-summing operators. It turns out thatT:XY does not belong to if and only if it factors the mapId:l p *l q . By localization, we get the ideal that consists of those operatorsT for which all ultrapowersT u are contained in . Operators in the complement of are characterized by the property that they factor the mapsId:l p *n l q n uniformly. Our main tools are ideal norms.Supported by DFG grant PI 322/1-2  相似文献

Suppose that X and Y are Banach spaces complemented in each other with supplemented subspaces A and B. In 1996, W. T. Gowers solved the Schroeder–Bernstein problem for Banach spaces by showing that X is not necessarily isomorphic to Y. In this paper, we obtain some suitable conditions involving the spaces A and B to yield that X is isomorphic to Y or to provide that at least X m is isomorphic to Yn for some m, n ∈ IN*. So we get some decomposition methods in Banach spaces via supplemented subspaces resembling Pełczyński’s decomposition methods. In order to do this, we introduce several notions of Schroeder–Bernstein Quadruples acting on the spaces X, Y, A and B. Thus, we characterize them by using some Banach spaces recently constructed. Let X be a normed lattice and Y be the norm completion of X with a natural embedding π : XY . By the Kawai- Luxemburg theorem, X is embedded as an order dense set and π preserves all suprema and infima iff X satisfies the condition (Ao ) (i.e., the norm has pseudo σ-Lebesgue property). Let Xo be the largest ideal in X having the condition (Ao); let Y(o) be the band in Y generated by πXo and Y(1) be the complementary band to Y(o). The structure of Y and, in particular, of the bands Y(o) and Y(1) are studied. The conditions for Y(o) to be a projection band and πXo to be topologically dense in Y(o) are obtained.  相似文献

We show that the centraliser of the space of n-fold symmetric injective tensors, n≥2, on a real Banach space is trivial. With a geometric condition on the set of extreme points of its dual, the space of integral polynomials we obtain the same result for complex Banach spaces. We give some applications of this results to centralisers of spaces of homogeneous polynomials and complex Banach spaces. In addition, we derive a Banach-Stone Theorem for spaces of vector-valued approximable polynomials. Abstract

In this note we consider a non-linear problem posed to the author in a private communication with Per Enflo: If a normed space X contains a non-linear ? 1 (n)-cube (where n ≥ 2 is a natural number) does it necessarily contain a linear isometric copy of ? 1 (n)?

We exhibit a strong regularity property of non-linear ? 1 (n) cubes and apply it to obtain an affirmative answer to Enflo's problem in the setting X = l (m) that, moreover, coincides precisely with well known linear theory.  相似文献

In classical topology it is proved, nonconstructively, that for a topological space X, every bounded Riesz map ϕ in C(X) is of the form for a point xX. In this paper our main objective is to give the pointfree version of this result. In fact, we constructively represent each real Riesz map on a compact frame M by prime elements. Abstract

Using a lifting of £ (μ, X) ([5],[6]), we construct a lifting ρ x of the seminormed vector space £ (μ, X) of measurable, essentially bounded X-valued functions. We show that in a certain sense such a lifting always exists. If μ is Lebesgue measure on (0, 1) we show that ρ x exists as map from £ ((O, 1), X) → £,((0, l), X) if and only if X is reflexive. In general the lifted function takes its values in X **. Therefore we investigate the question, when f ε £ (μ, X) is strictly liftable in the sense that the lifted function is a map with values even in X.

As an application we introduce the space £ strong (μ, L (X, Y**)), a subspace of the space of strongly measurable, essentially bounded L (X, Y, **)-valued functions, and the associated quotient space £ strong (μ, L (X,Y**)). We show that this space is a Banach space because there is a kind of a Dunford-Pettis Theorem for a subspace of L (X, £(μ Y**)). Finally we investigate the measurability property of functions in £(μ Y**)) und see that there exists a connection to the Radon-Nikodym property of the space L (X, Y).  相似文献

Abstract

We introduce and study the class of weak almost limited operators. We establish a characterization of pairs of Banach lattices E, F for which every positive weak almost limited operator T : EF is almost limited (resp. almost Dunford- Pettis). As consequences, we will give some interesting results.  相似文献
