Except for certain parameter values, a closed form formula for the mode of the generalized hyperbolic (GH) distribution is not available. In this paper, we exploit results from the literature on modified Bessel functions and their ratios to obtain simple but tight two-sided inequalities for the mode of the GH distribution for general parameter values. As a special case, we deduce tight two-sided inequalities for the mode of the variance-gamma (VG) distribution, and through a similar approach we also obtain tight two-sided inequalities for the mode of the McKay Type I distribution. The analogous problem for the median is more challenging, but we conjecture some monotonicity results for the median of the VG and McKay Type I distributions, from we which we conjecture some tight two-sided inequalities for their medians. Numerical experiments support these conjectures and also lead us to a conjectured tight lower bound for the median of the GH distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, we extend the concept of monotonicity for a vector set-valued mapping to semimonotonicity for a vector set-valued mapping. Then, we prove solvability results for a class of new generalized mixed vector variational-like inequalities by applying the Fan-KKM theorem and Nadler’s result. On the other hand, we introduce the concepts of complete semicontinuity and strong semicontinuity for vector multivalued mappings. Moreover, by using the Brouwer fixed point theorem, we prove the solvability for the class of generalized vector variational-like inequalities without monotonicity assumption. Using this result, we obtain a theorem and corollary that improve and extend some known results.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate optimality conditions for fractional variational problems, with a Lagrangian depending on the Riesz-Caputo derivative. First we prove a generalized Euler-Lagrange equation for the case when the interval of integration of the functional is different from the interval of the fractional derivative. Next we consider integral dynamic constraints on the problem, for several different cases. Finally, we determine optimality conditions for functionals depending not only on the admissible functions, but on time also, and we present a necessary condition for a pair function-time to be an optimal solution to the problem.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to present a kinetic formulation of a model for the coupling of transient free surface and pressurised flows. Firstly, we revisit the system of Saint-Venant equations for free surface flow: we state some properties of Saint-Venant equations, we propose a kinetic formulation and we verify that this kinetic formulation leads to a Gibbs equilibrium that minimises (in some general case) an energy and preserves the still water steady state. Secondly, we propose a model for pressurised flows in a Saint-Venant-like conservative formulation. We then propose a kinetic formulation and we verify that this kinetic formulation leads to a Gibbs equilibrium that minimises in any case an energy and preserves the still water steady state. Finally, we propose a dual model that couples these two types of flow.  相似文献

In this work, we study a class of nonlinear eigenvalue problems related to fully discontinuous operators. In particular, we prove the existence of a critical point for two distinct problems. Connected with this problem, we also study a minimization problem with constraint, and we investigate the existence of solutions for a resonant case near zero. Moreover, we give some estimates and qualitative properties of solutions by using the relative rearrangement theory.  相似文献

A proportionally modular numerical semigroup is the set of nonnegative integer solutions to a Diophantine inequality of the type ax mod b ≤ cx. We give a new presentation for these semigroups and we relate them with a type of affine full semigroups. Next, we describe explicitly the minimal generating system for the affine full semigroups we are considering. As a consequence, we obtain generating systems for proportionally modular numerical semigroups and we exhibit several families of these semigroups in terms of their generators. Finally, we use the concept of fundamental gap to study when a proportionally modular numerical semigroup is symmetric and we propose some open problems.  相似文献

In this work, we propose a global optimization approach for mixed-integer programming problems. To this aim, we preliminarily define an exact penalty algorithm model for globally solving general problems and we show its convergence properties. In this article, we study the minimal polynomials of parametric matrices. Using the concept of (comprehensive) Gröbner systems for parametric ideals, we introduce the notion of a minimal polynomial system for a parametric matrix, i.e. we decompose the space of parameters into a finite set of cells and for each cell we give the corresponding minimal polynomial of the matrix. We also present an algorithm for computing a minimal polynomial system for a given parametric matrix.  相似文献

The restricted isometry property (RIP) is a well-known matrix condition that provides state-of-the-art reconstruction guarantees for compressed sensing. While random matrices are known to satisfy this property with high probability, deterministic constructions have found less success. In this paper, we consider various techniques for demonstrating RIP deterministically, some popular and some novel, and we evaluate their performance. In evaluating some techniques, we apply random matrix theory and inadvertently find a simple alternative proof that certain random matrices are RIP. Later, we propose a particular class of matrices as candidates for being RIP, namely, equiangular tight frames (ETFs). Using the known correspondence between real ETFs and strongly regular graphs, we investigate certain combinatorial implications of a real ETF being RIP. Specifically, we give probabilistic intuition for a new bound on the clique number of Paley graphs of prime order, and we conjecture that the corresponding ETFs are RIP in a manner similar to random matrices.  相似文献

Viscoelastic fluids represent a major challenge both from an engineering and from a mathematical point of view. Recently, we have shown that viscoelasticity induces chaos in closed‐loop thermosyphons even when we consider binary fluids, this is, when we consider a solute in the fluid, as water and antifreezes, for example. In this work, we consider a linear friction law, and we show that in this case with the addition of a solute to the fluid we can prove, under some conditions, chaotic asymptotic behavior for suitable geometry of the circuit and heat flux or ambient temperature functions.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate relations between constraint qualifications in quasiconvex programming. At first, we show a necessary and sufficient condition for the closed cone constraint qualification for quasiconvex programming (Q-CCCQ), and investigate some sufficient conditions for the Q-CCCQ. Also, we consider a relation between the Q-CCCQ and the basic constraint qualification for quasiconvex programming (Q-BCQ) and we compare the Q-BCQ with some constraint qualifications.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider initial boundary value problem for the equations of one-dimensional nonlinear thermoelasticity with second sound in R^+. First, we derive decay rates for linear systems which, in fact, is a hyperbolic systems with a damping term. Then, using this linear decay rates, we get L^1 and L^∞ decay rates for nonlinear systems. Finally, combining with L^2 estimates and a local existence theorem, we prove a global existence and uniqueness theorem for small smooth data.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop optimal trading strategies for a risk averse investor by minimizing the expected cost and the risk of execution. Here we consider a law of motion for price which uses a convex combination of temporary and permanent market impact. In the special case of unconstrained problem for a risk neutral investor, we obtain a closed form solution for optimal trading strategies by using dynamic programming. For a general problem, we use a quadratic programming approach to get approximate dynamic optimal trading strategies. Further, numerical examples of optimal execution strategies are provided for illustration purposes.  相似文献

In this article, we consider surfaces that are general withrespect to a three-dimensional toric idealistic cluster. Inparticular, this means that blowing up a toric constellationprovides an embedded resolution of singularities for these surfaces.First we give a formula for the topological zeta function directlyin terms of the cluster. We first introduce the notion of positive linear Volterra integral equations. Then, we offer a criterion for positive equations in terms of the resolvent. In particular, equations with nonnegative kernels are positive. Next, we obtain a variant of the Paley-Wiener theorem for equations of this class and its extension to perturbed equations. Furthermore, we get a Perron-Frobenius type theorem for linear Volterra integral equations with nonnegative kernels. Finally, we give a criterion for positivity of the initial function semigroup of linear Volterra integral equations and provide a necessary and sufficient condition for exponential stability of the semigroups.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish functional convergence theorems for second order quadratic variations of Gaussian processes which admit a singularity function. First, we prove a functional almost sure convergence theorem, and a functional central limit theorem, for the process of second order quadratic variations, and we illustrate these results with the example of the fractional Brownian sheet (FBS). Second, we do the same study for the process of localized second order quadratic variations, and we apply the results to the multifractional Brownian motion (MBM).  相似文献

In this work we obtain a chain rule for the approximate subdifferential considering a vector-valued proper convex function and its post-composition with a proper convex function of several variables nondecreasing in the sense of the Pareto order. We derive an interesting formula for the conjugate of a composition in the same framework and we prove the chain rule using this formula. To get the results, we require qualification conditions since, in the composition, the initial function is extended vector-valued. This chain rule extends analogous well-known calculus rules obtained when the functions involved are finite and it gives a complementary simple expression for other chain rules proved without assuming any qualification condition. As application we deduce the well-known calculus rule for the addition and we extend the formula for the maximum of functions. Finally, we use them and a scalarization process to obtain Kuhn-Tucker type necessary and sufficient conditions for approximate solutions in convex Pareto problems. These conditions extend other obtained in scalar optimization problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss basic properties, a least‐squares problem for row extended matrices and the associated approximation problem. First, we obtain their basic properties by applying their particular structure. Then we derive a general representation of the solutions to the least‐squares problem, and we obtain an expression for the solution to the associated approximation problem. Finally, we provide a perturbation analysis and a perturbation bound for the best approximate solution. The results are illustrated by numerical examples. The main goal of this work consists in showing that the analytic solutions for a class of characteristic problems for the Einstein vacuum equations have an existence region much larger than the one provided by the Cauchy–Kowalevski theorem due to the intrinsic hyperbolicity of the Einstein equations. To prove this result we first describe a geometric way of writing the vacuum Einstein equations for the characteristic problems we are considering, in a gauge characterized by the introduction of a double null cone foliation of the spacetime. Then we prove that the existence region for the analytic solutions can be extended to a larger region which depends only on the validity of the a priori estimates for the Weyl equations, associated with the “Bel-Robinson norms”. In particular, if the initial data are sufficiently small we show that the analytic solution is global. Before showing how to extend the existence region we describe the same result in the case of the Burger equation, which, even if much simpler, nevertheless requires analogous logical steps required for the general proof. Due to length of this work, in this paper we mainly concentrate on the definition of the gauge we use and on writing in a “geometric” way the Einstein equations, then we show how the Cauchy–Kowalevski theorem is adapted to the characteristic problem for the Einstein equations and we describe how the existence region can be extended in the case of the Burger equation. Finally, we describe the structure of the extension proof in the case of the Einstein equations. The technical parts of this last result is the content of a second paper.  相似文献
