In this paper, we provide various Sobolev-type inequalities for smooth nonnegative functions with compact support on a submanifold with variable mean curvature in a Riemannian manifold whose sectional curvature is bounded above by a constant. We further obtain the corresponding linear isoperimetric inequalities involving mean curvature. We also provide various first Dirichlet eigenvalue estimates for submanifolds with bounded mean curvature.  相似文献

In this work we review two classical isoperimetric inequalities involving eigenvalues of the Laplacian, both with Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. The first one is classically attributed to Krahn and P. Szego and asserts that among sets of given measure, the disjoint union of two balls with the same radius minimizes the second eigenvalue of the Dirichlet–Laplacian, while the second one is due to G. Szegő and Weinberger and deals with the maximization of the first non-trivial eigenvalue of the Neumann–Laplacian. New stability estimates are provided for both of them.  相似文献

Motivated by Carleman's proof of the isoperimetric inequality in the plane, we study the problem of finding a metric with zero scalar curvature maximizing the isoperimetric ratio among all zero scalar curvature metrics in a fixed conformal class on a compact manifold with boundary. We derive a criterion for the existence and make a related conjecture.  相似文献

Consider (M,g) as a complete, simply connected Riemannian manifold. The aim of this paper is to provide various geometric estimates in different cases for the first eigenvalue of (p,q)-elliptic quasilinear system in both Dirichlet and Neumann conditions on Riemannian manifold. In some cases we add integral curvature condition and maybe we prove some theorems under other conditions.  相似文献

We prove some sharp estimates for solutions to Dirichlet problems relative to Monge–Ampère equations. Among them we show that the eigenvalue of the Dirichlet problem, when computed on convex domains with fixed measure, is maximal on ellipsoids. This result falls in the class of affine isoperimetric inequalities and shows that the eigenvalue of the Monge–Ampère operator behaves just the contrary of the first eigenvalue of the Laplace operator.  相似文献

We provide sharp local isoperimetric inequalities on Riemannian manifolds involving the scalar curvature, and thus answer a question asked by Johnson and Morgan.

We give new estimates on the lower bounds for the first closed and Neumann eigenvalues for compact manifolds with positive Ricci curvature in terms of the diameter and the lower bound of Ricci curvature. The results sharpen the previous estimates.   相似文献

We establish a pointwise comparison result for a nonlinear degenerate elliptic Dirichlet problem using an isoperimetric inequality involving the total mean curvature. In particular this result provides a sharp estimate for the extinction time of a class of compact surfaces, wider than the convex one, moving by mean curvature flow. Finally we present numerical experiments to compare our estimate with those known in literature.  相似文献

We study the mean curvature flow of radially symmetric graphs with prescribed contact angle on a fixed, smooth hypersurface in Euclidean space. In this paper we treat two distinct problems. The first problem has a free Neumann boundary only, while the second has two disjoint boundaries, a free Neumann boundary and a fixed Dirichlet height. We separate the two problems and prove that under certain initial conditions we have either long time existence followed by convergence to a minimal surface, or finite maximal time of existence at the end of which the graphs develop a curvature singularity. We also give a rate of convergence for the singularity.  相似文献

We establish uniform Lipschitz estimates for second‐order elliptic systems in divergence form with rapidly oscillating, almost‐periodic coefficients. We give interior estimates as well as estimates up to the boundary in bounded C1,α domains with either Dirichlet or Neumann data. The main results extend those in the periodic setting due to Avellaneda and Lin for interior and Dirichlet boundary estimates and later Kenig, Lin, and Shen for the Neumann boundary conditions. In contrast to these papers, our arguments are constructive (and thus the constants are in principle computable) and the results for the Neumann conditions are new even in the periodic setting, since we can treat nonsymmetric coefficients. We also obtain uniform W1,p estimates.© 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We consider a planar waveguide modeled by the Laplacian in a straight infinite strip with the Dirichlet boundary condition on the upper boundary and with frequently alternating boundary conditions (Dirichlet and Neumann) on the lower boundary. The homogenized operator is the Laplacian subject to the Dirichlet boundary condition on the upper boundary and to the Dirichlet or Neumann condition on the lower one. We prove the uniform resolvent convergence for the perturbed operator in both cases and obtain the estimates for the rate of convergence. Moreover, we construct the leading terms of the asymptotic expansions for the first band functions and the complete asymptotic expansion for the bottom of the spectrum. Bibliography: 17 titles. We study bounds on the exit time of Brownian motion from a set in terms of its size and shape, and the relation of such bounds with isoperimetric inequalities. The first result is an upper bound for the distribution function of the exit time from a subset of a sphere or hyperbolic space of constant curvature in terms of the exit time from a disc of the same volume. This amounts to a rearrangement inequality for the Dirichlet heat kernel. To connect this inequality with the classical isoperimetric inequality, we derive a formula for the perimeter of a set in terms of the heat flow over the boundary. An auxiliary result generalizes Riesz' rearrangement inequality to multiple integrals. Submitted: February 2000, Revised version: December 2000, Final version: May 2001.  相似文献

Inspired by earlier results on the quasilinear mean curvature flow, and recent investigations of fully nonlinear curvature flow of closed hypersurfaces which are not convex, we consider contraction of axially symmetric hypersurfaces by convex, degree-one homogeneous fully nonlinear functions of curvature. With a natural class of Neumann boundary conditions, we show that evolving hypersurfaces exist for a finite maximal time. The maximal time is characterised by a curvature singularity at either boundary. Some results continue to hold in the cases of mixed Neumann–Dirichlet boundary conditions and more general curvature-dependent speeds.  相似文献

We prove that for a compact Finsler manifold M with nonnegative weighted Ricci curvature,if its first closed(resp.Neumann)eigenvalue of Finsler-Laplacian attains the sharp lower bound, then M is isometric to a circle(resp.a segment). Moreover,a lower bound of the first eigenvalue of Finsler-Laplacian with Dirichlet boundary condition is also estimated. These generalize the corresponding results in recent literature.  相似文献

We consider some well-posed Dirichlet problems for elliptic equations set on the interior or the exterior of a convex domain (examples include the torsional rigidity, the first Dirichlet eigenvalue, and the electrostatic capacity), and we add an overdetermined Neumann condition which involves the Gauss curvature of the boundary. By using concavity inequalities of Brunn–Minkowski type satisfied by the corresponding variational energies, we prove that the existence of a solution implies the symmetry of the domain. This provides some new characterizations of spheres, in models going from solid mechanics to electrostatics.  相似文献

We prove a comparison theorem for the isoperimetric profiles of solutions of the normalized Ricci flow on the two-sphere: If the isoperimetric profile of the initial metric is greater than that of some positively curved axisymmetric metric, then the inequality remains true for the isoperimetric profiles of the evolved metrics. We apply this using the Rosenau solution as the model metric to deduce sharp time-dependent curvature bounds for arbitrary solutions of the normalized Ricci flow on the two-sphere. This gives a simple and direct proof of convergence to a constant curvature metric without use of any blowup or compactness arguments, Harnack estimates, or any classification of behaviour near singularities.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with a family of second‐order elliptic systems in divergence form with rapidly oscillating periodic coefficients. We initiate the study of homogenization and boundary layers for Neumann problems with first‐order oscillating boundary data. We identify the homogenized system and establish the sharp rate of convergence in L2 in dimension three or higher. Regularity estimates are also obtained for the homogenized boundary data in both Dirichlet and Neumann problems. The results are used to establish a higher‐order convergence rate for Neumann problems with nonoscillating data. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

For the principal eigenvalue with bilateral Dirichlet boundary condition, the so-called basic estimates were originally obtained by capacitary method. The Neumann case (i.e., the ergodic case) is even harder, and was deduced from the Dirichlet one plus a use of duality and the coupling method. In this paper, an alternative and more direct proof for the basic estimates is presented. The estimates in the Dirichlet case are then improved by a typical application of a recent variational formula. As a dual of the Dirichlet case, the refine problem for bilateral Neumann boundary condition is also treated. The paper starts with the continuous case (one-dimensional diffusions) and ends at the discrete one (birth-death processes). Possible generalization of the results studied here is discussed at the end of the paper.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the moduli spaces of m‐dimensional, κ‐noncollapsed Ricci flow solutions with bounded $\int |Rm|^{{m}/{2}}$ and bounded scalar curvature. We show a weak compactness theorem for such moduli spaces and apply it to study the estimates of isoperimetric constants, the Kähler‐Ricci flows, and the moduli spaces of gradient shrinking solitons. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献
