Nonlinear optical terahertz wave generation is a promising method for realizing a practical source with wide frequency range and high peak power. Unfortunately, many nonlinear crystals have a strong absorption in the terahertz frequency region. This limits efficient and widely tunable terahertz wave generation. The Cherenkov phase-matching method is one of the most promising techniques for overcoming these problems. We propose a prism-coupled Cherenkov phase-matching method, in which a prism with a suitable refractive index at terahertz frequencies is coupled to a nonlinear crystal. We demonstrate prism-coupled Cherenkov phase-matching terahertz generation using the DAST and LiNbO3 crystals. With a DAST crystal, we obtain a spectral flat tunability up to 10 THz by difference frequency generation. With a LiNbO3 crystal, we observe a spectral flat broadband terahertz pulse generation up to 5 THz pumped by a femto second fiber laser. The obtained temporal waveform is an ideal half cycle pulse suitable for reflection terahertz tomography.  相似文献

基于腔相位匹配的方法,研究了GaAs微片状晶体构成的光学微腔光参量振荡产生太赫兹波的条件与参数设计.计算了腔相位匹配下GaAs晶体的最优化腔长,通过调节GaAs晶体的温度研究了太赫兹波的输出情况,模拟了不同波长下最低的能量阈值.结果表明,在完全相位匹配很难实现的情况下,采用腔相位匹配能很容易地实现大范围的太赫兹波调谐输出.结果为小型化光学太赫兹源的实验与理论研究提供了参考.  相似文献

A new scheme for generating high-energy terahertz (THz) pulses based on using a multistep phase mask (MSPM) is suggested and analyzed. The mask is placed on the entrance surface of the nonlinear optical (NLO) crystal eliminating the necessity of the imaging optics. In contrast to the contact grating method, introduction of large amounts of angular dispersion is avoided. The operation principle of the suggested scheme is based on the fact that the MSPM splits a single input beam into many smaller time-delayed “beamlets,” which together form a discretely tilted-front laser pulse in NLO crystal. The analysis of THz-pulse generation in ZnTe and lithium niobate (LN) crystals shows that application of ZnTe crystal is more preferable, especially when long-wavelength pump sources are used. The dimensions of the mask’s steps required for high-energy THz-pulse generation in ZnTe and LN crystals are calculated. The optimal number of steps is estimated, taking into account individual beamlet’s spatial broadening and problems related to the mask fabrication. The proposed method is a promising way to develop high-energy, monolithic, and alignment-free THz-pulse sources.  相似文献

Tunable signal generation in the gigahertz to terahertz range was demonstrated by photomixing of a chirped optical pulse and its time-delayed replica. The chirped pulses were created by chromatically dispersing femtosecond pulses from a mode-locked fiber ring laser, and frequency tuning was achieved by adjusting the time delay and/or the amount of group velocity dispersion. It is shown that the signal phase is locked to the femtosecond-laser pulses and that an extinction ratio close to 100% can be obtained. Analytical calculations on the signal chirp introduced by higher order dispersion are also presented and compared with the experimental data  相似文献

We present the analysis and start-to-end simulation of an intense narrow-band terahertz (THz) source with a broad tuning range of radiation frequency, using a single-pass free electron laser (FEL) driven by a THz-pulse-train photoinjector. The fundamental radiation frequency, corresponding to the spacing between the electron microbunches, can be easily tuned by varying the spacing time between the laser micropulses. Since the prebunched electron beam is highly bunched at the first several harmonics, with the harmonic generation technique, the radiation frequency range can be further enlarged by several times. The start-to-end simulation results show that this FEL is capable of generating a few tens megawatts power, several tens micro-joules pulse energy, and a few percent bandwidth at the frequencies of 0.5–5 THz. We investigate off-axis phase-matched terahertz(THz) radiation in laser plasma pumped by few-cycle laser pulses. We find that the THz amplitude and angular distributions in the far field are sensitively dependent on the pump pulse’s focal carrier-envelope phase(CEP). We present a reflective spatial phase shifter which operates at terahertz regime above 325 GHz. The controllable permittivity of the nematic liquid crystals was utilized to realize a tunable terahertz (THz) reflective phase shifter. The reflective characteristics of the terahertz electromagnetic waves and the liquid crystal parameters were calculated and analyzed. We provide the simulation results for the effect of the incident angle of the plane wave on the reflection. The experiment was carried out considering an array consisting of 30?×?30 patch elements, printed on a 20?×?20 mm quartz substrate with 1-mm thickness. The phase shifter provides a tunable phase range of 300° over the frequency range of 325 to 337.6 GHz. The maximum phase shift of 331° is achieved at 330 GHz. The proposed phase shifter is a potential candidate for THz applications, particularly for reconfigurable reflectarrays.  相似文献

报道了用半绝缘GaAs材料研制的光电导偶极天线在飞秒激光脉冲触发下辐射THz电磁波的实验结果.GaAs光电导偶极芯片的两个欧姆接触电极间隙为3mm,采用Si3N4薄膜绝缘保护,在540V直流偏置下被波长800nm,脉宽14fs,重复频率75MHz,平均功率130mW的飞秒激光脉冲触发时产生THz电磁波.用电光取样测量得到了THz电磁脉冲的时域波形和频谱分布.THz电磁波的辐射峰值位于0.5THz左右,频谱宽度大于2THz,脉冲宽度约为1ps.  相似文献

理论分析了双光子和三光子吸收对非线性材料差频产生太赫兹(THz)波的影响,在不同抽运功率下,计算了相位失配情况下晶体的最佳作用长度和THz的最大量子转化效率,并将其与相位匹配情况进行对比。研究结果表明,抽运功率不太高时,多光子吸收对差频产生THz波影响不大;随着抽运功率的提高,多光子吸收的影响变得显著;抽运功率较高时,相位匹配与相位失配情况下,双光子和三光子吸收效应都增加了晶体的最佳作用长度,降低了THz的最大转化效率。研究了降低多光子吸收的方法。  相似文献

Studied is the Super-continuum (SC) generation of a normal-dispersion photonic crystal fiber (PCF) using picosecond pulse excitation. In experimental analyses, a 237 nm broadband infrared continuum was generated pumped at 1 550 nm(normal dispersion regime) by 1.6 ps pulses from an erbium-doped fiber laser. In addition, we conduct the numerical analyses of SC based on generalized nonlinear Schr dionger equation. The results have been applied to investigate the dominant physical processes underlie the generation - of SC. We conclude that dispersion, self-phase modulation (SPM), four-wave-mixing (FWM) and Raman scattering are determinants of SC generation rather than fission of soliton in normal-dispersion PCF.  相似文献

理论分析了有机晶体2-[3-(4-hydroxystyryl)-5,5-dimethylcyclohex-2-enylidene]malononitrile(OH1)中基于共线相位匹配级联光学差频产生太赫兹波的物理过程。从耦合波方程出发分析了级联斯托克斯过程和级联反斯托克斯过程,计算了太赫兹波的强度和量子转换效率。相对于非级联光学差频过程,13阶级联光学差频产生的太赫兹波强度增大了15.96倍。13阶级联光学差频中太赫兹波的量子转换效率为1377%,超过了Manley-Rowe关系的限制。  相似文献

由于群速度失配的影响,飞秒光脉冲在感应到FONPS(级联五阶非线性相移)的同时,将不可避免地发生脉冲畸变.通过理论分析及数值模拟,提出了使级联五阶非线性过程运行在较大相位失配条件下的解决方案,成功地消除了脉冲畸变.并且借助于该过程中倍频效率的提高,有效地补偿由于相位失配量的增大所造成的FONPS的下降,实现飞秒基频光脉冲在感应到大的FONPS的同时无脉冲畸变发生.  相似文献
