This paper presents two-step design methodologies and performance analyses of finite-impulse response (FIR), allpass, and infinite-impulse response (IIR) variable fractional delay (VFD) digital filters. In the first step, a set of fractional delay (FD) filters are designed. In the second step, these FD filter coefficients are approximated by polynomial functions of FD. The FIR FD filter design problem is formulated in the peak-constrained weighted least-squares (PCWLS) sense and solved by the projected least-squares (PLS) algorithm. For the allpass and IIR FD filters, the design problem is nonconvex and a global solution is difficult to obtain. The allpass FD filters are directly designed as a linearly constrained quadratic programming problem and solved using the PLS algorithm. For IIR FD filters, the fixed denominator is obtained by model reduction of a time-domain average FIR filter. The remaining numerators of the IIR FD filters are designed by solving linear equations derived from the orthogonality principle. Analyses on the relative performances indicate that the IIR VFD filter with a low-order fixed denominator offers a combination of the following desirable properties including small number of denominator coefficients, lowest group delay, easily achievable stable design, avoidance of transients due to nonvariable denominator coefficients, and good overall magnitude and group delay performances especially for high passband cutoff frequency ( ges 0.9pi) . Filter examples covering three adjacent ranges of wideband cutoff frequencies [0.95, 0.925, 0.9], [0.875, 0.85, 0.825], and [0.8, 0.775, 0.75] are given to illustrate the design methodologies and the relative performances of the proposed methods.  相似文献

Proposes a novel framework for a new class of two-channel biorthogonal filter banks. The framework covers two useful subclasses: i) causal stable IIR filter banks. ii) linear phase FIR filter banks. There exists a very efficient structurally perfect reconstruction implementation for such a class. Filter banks of high frequency selectivity can be achieved by using the proposed framework with low complexity. The properties of such a class are discussed in detail. The design of the analysis/synthesis systems reduces to the design of a single transfer function. Very simple design methods are given both for FIR and IIR cases. Zeros of arbitrary multiplicity at aliasing frequency can be easily imposed, for the purpose of generating wavelets with regularity property. In the IIR case, two new classes of IIR maximally flat filters different from Butterworth filters are introduced. The filter coefficients are given in closed form. The wavelet bases corresponding to the biorthogonal systems are generated. the authors also provide a novel mapping of the proposed 1-D framework into 2-D. The mapping preserves the following: i) perfect reconstruction; ii) stability in the IIR case; iii) linear phase in the FIR case; iv) zeros at aliasing frequency; v) frequency characteristic of the filters  相似文献

In this paper, the least p-power error criterion is presented to design digital infinite impulse response (IIR) filters to have an arbitrarily prescribed frequency response. First, an iterative quadratic programming (QP) method is used to design a stable unconstrained one-dimensional IIR filter whose optimal filter coefficients are obtained by solving the QP problem in each iteration. Then, the proposed method is extended to design constrained IIR filters and two-dimensional IIR filters with a separable denominator polynomial. Finally, design examples of the low-pass filter are demonstrated to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed iterative QP method.  相似文献

The contribution of this paper consists of two individual parts. First, an invertible mapping technique is presented for 3-D digital system design, and it is applied to approximate 3-D noncausal filters in the spatial domain. Secondly, an algorithm is proposed for obtaining a structure for 3-D IIR filters with small roundoff noise and no overflow oscillations. The design of noncausal filters can be carried out by three steps: 1), a given noncausal impulse response is transformed into the first octant using the proposed 3-D invertible mapping technique; 2), the transformed impulse response in the first octant is approximated by balanced model reduction of 3-D separable denominator systems;3), the resultant 3-D IIR filter is transformed back to the original coordinates.  相似文献

A VLSI architecture for the on-chip realization of a first-order two-dimensional (2-D) or three-dimensional (3-D) infinte impulse response (IIR) fully multiplexed frequency-planar filter module (FMFPM) is proposed. Such filter modules may be used in 3-D video processing and 2-D/3-D plane-wave filtering using sensor arrays. The proposed FMFPM can potentially be used as a 2-D/3-D IIR building block circuit for the on-chip realization of second- (or higher) order frequency-planar filters, 3-D IIR beam filters, 2-D IIR fan filter banks and 3-D IIR cone filter banks.  相似文献

In this paper, the closed-form design of half-sample delay infinite-impulse response (IIR) filter is presented. First, the continued fraction expansion (CFE) and its recursive computation are reviewed briefly. Then, the CFE of square root function is applied to design half-sample delay IIR filters with various orders. The comparisons with conventional maximally flat half-sample delay all-pass and Lagrange filters are made and implementation issue is also addressed. Next, the designed half-sample delay filter is used to reduce the approximation error of the conventional IIR Simpson integrator, to design half-band and diamond shaped filters, and to magnify the digital image. Finally, several numerical examples are illustrated to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method  相似文献

Digital integrator design using Simpson rule and fractional delay filter   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The IIR digital integrator is designed by using the Simpson integration rule and fractional delay filter. To improve the design accuracy of a conventional Simpson IIR integrator at high frequency, the sampling interval is reduced from T to 0.5T. As a result, a fractional delay filter needed to be designed in the proposed Simpson integrator. However, this problem can be solved easily by applying well-documented design techniques of the FIR and all-pass fractional delay filters. Several design examples are illustrated to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

The two-channel perfect-reconstruction quadrature-mirror-filter banks (PR QMF banks) are analyzed in detail by assuming arbitrary analysis and synthesis filters. Solutions where the filters are FIR or IIR correspond to the fact that a certain function is monomial or nonmonomial, respectively. For the monomial case, the design problem is formulated as a nonlinear constrained optimization problem. The formulation is quite robust and is able to design various two-channel filter banks such as orthogonal and biorthogonal, arbitrary delay, linear-phase filter banks, to name a few. Same formulation is used for causal and stable PR IIR filter bank solutions  相似文献

A cepstrum-based approach is proposed to design finite- and infinite-impulse-response (IIR) fractional-delay (FD) filters. The maximal-flatness criteria on frequency responses are formulated as a system of linear equations to solve the truncated complex cepstrum. The closed-form solutions to cepstrum sequences can be derived. Moreover, it is very attractive that the resultant cepstrum coefficients are directly proportional to the desired FD. Under a fixed filter order, the set of normalized complex cepstra needs to be computed once and stored, and the specific set for an arbitrary FD is obtained by simply multiplying the stored set with the delay value. According to this observation, we also design two kinds of tunable filter structures consisting of several linear-phase filters, in which it is more flexible to obtain better performance by adding the extra substructure without modifying the present one. Moreover, the tunable FD is simply controlled by a single parameter, and the usage of linear-phase filters saves half of the multipliers, largely reducing the cost of hardware implementation. In addition, we obtain an IIR all-pass filter with a wider useful band than that based on Thiran's design.  相似文献

In this paper, minimax design of infinite-impulse-response (IIR) filters with prescribed stability margin is formulated as a conic quadratic programming (CQP) problem. CQP is known as a class of well-structured convex programming problems for which efficient interior-point solvers are available. By considering factorized denominators, the proposed formulation incorporates a set of linear constraints that are sufficient and near necessary for the IIR filter to have a prescribed stability margin. A second-order cone condition on the magnitude of each update that ensures the validity of a key linear approximation used in the design is also included in the formulation and eliminates a line-search step. Collectively, these features lead to improved designs relative to several established methods. The paper then moves on to extend the proposed design methodology to quadrantally symmetric two-dimensional (2-D) digital filters. Simulation results for both one-dimensional (1-D) and 2-D cases are presented to illustrate the new design algorithms and demonstrate their performance in comparison with several existing methods.  相似文献

This paper presents the peak-constrained least-squares (PCLS) approach to designing IIR digital filters. PCLS IIR digital filters that meet simultaneous specifications on the frequency response magnitude and the group delay are introduced. As a point of reference, we consider the IIR digital filter design problem that appears in Deczky's (1972) classic paper and in the popular textbook by Oppenheim and Schafer (1989). In addition, the same design problem appears in the IIR filter design chapter by Higgins and Munson (1993) in the Handbook for Digital Signal Processing. By using our new algorithm with simultaneous optimization of the frequency response magnitude and the group delay, we obtain a dramatic improvement in the solution of this classic IIR digital filter design problem. Starting from the same filter structure and the same specifications for the frequency response magnitude as in the works of Deczky, Oppenheim and Schafer, and Higgins and Munson, we are able to reduce the group delay ripple by a factor of 35. In another design problem that originated in Deczky's work, we use PCLS optimization to reduce the group delay ripple by a factor of 40 at the same time we reduce the stopband energy by 6 dB, without sacrificing any other performance measure. The group delay ripple in this IIR digital filter example is reduced to only ±0.002 samples  相似文献

An algorithm for designing an infinite-impulse-response (IIR) stable filter using a finite-impulse-response (FIR) given filter, with the objective of reducing the delay and order, is described. The design is in the time domain using the least-squares-inverse algorithm, which is briefly described. In this method, the numerator of the approximated filter is part of the FIR filter itself and no calculations and minimization are needed to find the numerator coefficients (except finding the FIR roots). An error analysis between the given FIR and approximated IIR filters is provided. This error analysis enables the designer to fix a design parameter, often unnoted, keeping the energies of the approximated and original filters equal. Results and two illustrative examples are presented  相似文献

Fractional delay (FD) filters are an important class of digital filters and are useful in various signal processing applications. This paper discusses a design problem of FD infinite-impulse-response (IIR) filters with the maxflat frequency response in frequency domain. First, a flatness condition of FD filters at an arbitrarily specified frequency point is described, and then a system of linear equations is derived from the flatness condition. Therefore, a set of filter coefficients can be easily obtained by solving this system of linear equations. For a special case in which the frequency response is required to be maxflat at omega = 0 or pi , a closed-form expression for its filter coefficients is derived by solving a linear system of Vandermonde equations. It is also shown that the existing maxflat FD finite-impulse-response (FIR) and IIR filters are special cases of the FD IIR filters proposed in this paper. Finally, some examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed filters.  相似文献

The paper deals with the minimax design of two-channel infinite impulse response (IIR) QMF banks with arbitrary group delay, for which the IIR analysis filters and the resulting filter bank possess the frequency response optimal in the minimax (L) sense. Utilising a lattice structure for the denominators of the IIR analysis filters, a design technique is presented based on an approximation scheme and a weighted least-squares (WLS) algorithm, previously developed by one of the authors for solving the resulting design problem that is basically a nonlinear optimisation problem. During the design process, this technique finds the tap coefficients for the numerator and the reflection coefficients for the denominator of the prototype IIR analysis filter simultaneously. The stability of the designed prototype IIR analysis filter is ensured by incorporating an efficient stabilisation procedure to make all of the reflection coefficient values fall between -1 and +1. Computer simulations show the effectiveness of the proposed design technique  相似文献

In this paper, a method for realizing a two-dimensional (2-D) adaptive notch filter is proposed. The obtained 2-D structure contains a pair of one-dimensional (1-D) second-order IIR notch filters and a pair of 1-D first-order allpass filters. The method has been successfully applied for the removal of a sinusoidal interference superimposed on an image.  相似文献

We present a new approach to the least-squares design of stable infinite impulse response (IIR) digital filters. The design is accomplished by using an iterative scheme in which the denominator polynomial obtained from the preceding iteration is treated as a part of the weighting function, and each iteration is carried out by solving a standard quadratic programming problem that yields a stable rational function. When the iteration converges, a stable and truly least-squares solution is obtained. The method is then extended to address the least-squares design of stable IIR two-dimensional (2-D) filters. Examples are included to illustrate the proposed design techniques  相似文献

A major problem encountered when designing infinite impulse response (IIR) filters in the complex domain is to ensure that the filter is stable. Instability occurs frequently when the IIR filter approximates the inverse of a nonminimum phase system. This is often the case for equalization filters. Addition of delay to the target frequency response can result in a stable filter. However, to date, delay selection has been a matter of trial and error. The article presents an automated method for finding the delay  相似文献

A recursive weighted median (RWM) filter structure admitting negative weights is introduced. Much like the sample median is analogous to the sample mean, the proposed class of RWM filters is analogous to the class of infinite impulse response (IIR) linear filters. RWM filters provide advantages over linear IIR filters, offering near perfect “stopband” characteristics and robustness against noise. Unlike linear IIR filters, RWM filters are always stable under the bounded-input bounded-output criterion, regardless of the values taken by the feedback filter weights. RWM filters also offer a number of advantages over their nonrecursive counterparts, including a significant reduction in computational complexity, increased robustness to noise, and the ability to model “resonant” or vibratory behavior. A novel “recursive decoupling” adaptive optimization algorithm for the design of this class of recursive WM filters is also introduced. Several properties of RWM filters are presented, and a number of simulations are included to illustrate the advantages of RWM filters over their nonrecursive counterparts and IIR linear filters  相似文献
