We report on a technique for producing a Bessel function correlation output for an arbitrary input pattern. The central dark spot at the center of the Bessel function correlator output is narrower than the width of the normal correlation spot and can be extremely useful for locating the center of the correlation signal. The Bessel function is produced by convolution of the extremely sharp correlation produced by an inverse filter with the Bessel function and is encoded with a single phase-only liquid-crystal spatial light modulator. To encode amplitude information on the filter, we spatially modulate the phase encoded on the filter. Amplitude modulation is obtained by modulation of the diffraction efficiency of the phase grating. Experimental results are presented.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper we present one method for the characterization of the spatial light modulators (SLMs) of a real-time Vander Lugt type of correlator. This correlator uses two SLMs: one to introduce the scene and a second to introduce the frequency‐matched filter. The SLM characterization methods are in situ, that is in the correlator set‐up. Illumination conditions are different for each SLM, and consequently different characterization techniques must be used in each case. For the characterization of the scene SLM a diffraction method is used, while for the characterization of the filter SLM an interferometric technique is more convenient. Finally, we take into account the operating curves of scene and filter SLMs in the design of the filter in order to optimize the correlation peak.  相似文献

In pattern recognition, it happens that the amount of space variance should be controlled. This may be achieved by use of a partially space-variant correlator. We present a novel configuration for achieving a partially controlled space-variant correlator. In this configuration the lenses are fixed in their focal lengths and locations. The filter function is also fixed. To change the amount of space variance, we need change only the longitudinal location of the filter without reencoding it. It is also shown that this type of correlator provides improved correlation peaks according to correlation-sharpness criteria.  相似文献

We describe an incoherent correlator, based on the shadow-casting principle, that is able to implement any real-valued linear correlation filter. The correlation filter and the input image are displayed on commercial liquid-crystal television (LCTV) panels. Although it cannot handle high-resolution images, the incoherent correlator is lensless, compact, low cost, and uses a white-light source. A bipolar technique is devised to represent any linear filter, computed from a single reference image or composite, in the correlator. We demonstrate experimentally the efficiency of the design in the case of optimal trade-off (OT) filters and optimal trade-off synthetic discriminant function (OT-SDF) filters.  相似文献

A simple method for simulating two-dimensional (2-D) distributions of the diffraction lights of a volume-holographic-type VanderLugt correlator is proposed and demonstrated. The simulation results are similar to those of the corresponding experiments, and only a few dozen points are sampled from both the input and the reading patterns. We show that the shifting tolerance to the reading pattern is a result of Bragg degeneracy and is not isotropic. The Bragg degeneracy generates different degrees of cross talk between the horizontal and the vertical directions. With the method we further simulate the 2-D shifting tolerance of the volume-holographic correlator. The simulation results offer a clear picture of the diffraction in a transmission volume hologram used as an optical spatial correlator.  相似文献

We describe generalized projection procedures for the design of arbitrary filter functions for correlators. More specifically, serial and parallel implementations of projection-based algorithms are employed. The novelty of this procedure lies in its generality and its ability to handle wide varieties of constraints by the same procedure. The procedure is demonstrated by the design of filters for the 4-? linear correlator, the phase-extraction correlator, and variants thereof. The filters are subject to a variety of constraints, including rotation-invariant pattern recognition and class discrimination. Examples are given to show the versatility, flexibility, and applicability of the design process to a variety of pattern-recognition tasks. Satisfactory results are also obtained because of the combination with the special nonlinear correlators proposed for pattern recognition.  相似文献

Multiple-target detection with a modified amplitude-modulated joint transform correlator is proposed. With this technique the joint power spectrum is first modified by the subtraction of the power spectrum of the input scene only and of the reference image from it; the resultant modified joint power spectrum is next multiplied by the amplitude-modulated filter function. The effect of noise in the input scene on the performance of the joint transform correlator is analyzed and quantified. This technique is found to deliver a correlation output and the capacity to accommodate noise in the input scene better than both the fringe-adjusted filter-based joint transform correlator and the modified fringe-adjusted filter-based joint transform correlator.  相似文献

A space-variant optical correlator is proposed on the basis of the fractional Fourier transform. The optical device uses as a recording medium for the holographic filter a photorefractive Bi(12)GeO(2) (BGO) crystal. The experimental results confirm the shift-variance properties. Rotation-invariant target detection using a trained filter-feature-based joint Fourier transform (JFT) correlator is investigated. First, a composite reference image is obtained from a training set of targets. An optimum filter formulation is then applied on this composite image to come up with a new feature that we refer to as a filter feature. This feature is then used in a JFT correlator, which results in a simple and robust rotation-invariant target recognition system.  相似文献

We introduce a new filter for an optical correlator that produces a Bessel function correlation output. The advantage of this type of output is that the width of the central dark spot at the center of the correlator output is narrower than the width of the usual correlation spot. In addition, the dark spot is insensitive to changes in illumination intensity. The accuracy and flexibility of the technique proposed by Davis et al. [Appl. Opt. 35, 2488 (1996)] for the encoding of the amplitude and the phase of a filter onto a single liquid-crystal spatial light modulator operating in a phase-only regime has been exploited to implement several filter designs in a convergent optical correlator. We have selected some filters, that given their mathematical structure showing some degree of rotational invariance, or having a parameter to regulate their behavior, require amore precise encoding. We present correlation results of outstanding quality for various rotationally invariant filter designs that have never been previously implemented with a real-time optical correlator.  相似文献

A new incoherent optical image correlator is presented which does not require a hologram to store the reference image information. Theoretical analysis is given to describe the system operation. Experimental results have confirmed that this correlator is capable of performing real-time pattern recognition. A one-dimensional edge-enhancement technique can be used to sharpen the correlation peak. Scale-invariant operation has been realized by adopting an adaptive frequency modulated acousto-optic device.  相似文献

We report a new, to our knowledge, technique for encoding amplitude information onto a phase-only filter with a single liquid-crystal spatial light modulator. In our approach we spatially modulate the phase that is encoded onto the filter and, consequently, spatially modify the diffraction efficiency of the filter. Light that is not diffracted into the first order is sent into the zero order, effectively allowing for amplitude modulation of either the first-order or the zero-order diffracted light. This technique has several applications in both optical pattern recognition and image processing, including amplitude modulation and inverse filters. Experimental results are included for the new technique.  相似文献

What we believe to be a new phase-contrast technique is proposed to recover intensity distributions from phase distributions modulated by spatial light modulators (SLMs) and binary diffractive optical elements (DOEs). The phase distribution is directly transformed into intensity distributions using a 4f optical correlator and an iris centered in the frequency plane as a spatial filter. No phase-changing plates or phase dielectric dots are used as a filter. This method allows the use of twisted nematic liquid-crystal televisions (LCTVs) operating in the real-time phase-mostly regime mode between 0 and p to generate high-intensity multiple beams for optical trap applications. It is also possible to use these LCTVs as input SLMs for optical correlators to obtain high-intensity Fourier transform distributions of input amplitude objects.  相似文献

A method of concealing an image in a different halftone image is proposed. Continuous-tone levels of the visible images are represented by the area of the halftone dots. However, the hidden image is encoded by the dots' positions inside their cells. Only a spatial correlator with a unique filter function can reveal the hidden image from the halftone picture. The technique and its robustness to noise and distortions are demonstrated.  相似文献

This paper describes the wideband radio channel sounding techniques for mobile radio channel measurements. Implementation of the cross-correlation method using both a sliding correlator and a matched filter detector is presented. Limitations and accuracy of radio channel measurements are discussed. Typically, delay resolution of about 20 ns is achieved with 100 MHz bandwidth. With a sliding correlator, a dynamic range of 25 dB was obtained with maximum Doppler bandwidth of 25 Hz and maximum excess delay of 19 μs. Digital matched filtering with a maximum sampling rate of 125 MHz can be used in real-time measurements with Doppler shifts of several kilohertz and 30 dB dynamic range. Using matched filter deconvolution as a resolution enhancement technique is discussed. Examples of the time-variant complex impulse response measurements are given  相似文献

The detection performance of a wavelet-based joint transform correlator (JTC) is studied by use of two types of images with different spatial-frequency contents and contrast. The simulation results show that, in comparison with an amplitude-modulated JTC, the performance for intraclass pattern recognition can be optimized by using a single wavelet filter.  相似文献

Because of the need for spectrally efficient systems for wireless communication, many research activities have been carried out in the area of spread-spectrum techniques. Multi-carrier spread-spectrum (MC-SS) is a new modulation technique with better spectral properties than direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DS-SS). In this paper, a new MC-SS system is introduced. A customized surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter has been designed as a fast analog correlator. A demonstrator testbed has been developed for the 2.4-GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band. Experimental measurements of the intermediate frequency (IF) and baseband correlation are presented.  相似文献

We propose a new novelty optical filter that uses a bacteriorhodopsin film. This filter is based on the time-dependent nonlinear diffraction efficiency of real-time holograms recorded in the film. As soon as the signal beam carrying a pattern is diffracted by the polarization hologram recorded in the bacteriorhodopsin film, it begins to erase the hologram and suppresses the diffraction of the beam at the position of the stationary part of the pattern. This filter enhances only leading edges of moving patterns. In this system undesired scattered light, which is orthogonally polarized to the diffracted beam, is discriminated by a polarizer.  相似文献
