Background

Nurses are among the many U.S. health professionals engaged in international learning or service experiences and often travel to low-resource countries lacking guidance for ethical practice, respect for host partners, or collaborative work in different health systems.

Purpose

The aim of this study is to develop evidence-based principles or guidelines for ethical global health nursing practice.

Methods

A three-round Delphi study was conducted. Global health nurse experts participated in Round 1 focus group, followed by nurses with global health expertise ranking global health nursing statements in Rounds 2 and 3.

Discussion

Findings led to 10 Ethical Principles for Global Health Nursing Practice and 30 statements for Ethical Guidelines in Global Health Nursing. These Ten principles address beneficence, nonmaleficence, dignity, respect, autonomy, social justice, and professional practice. The 30 guidelines offer more specific actions nurses must consider when working in global settings.  相似文献

目的 探讨社区卫生服务中妥善管理传染病的措施及规律。方法 对本院门诊及住院的2462例传染病患者分类建卡、统计、简单提问、答卷,分析社区中传染病的特点。结果 社区中的传染病以肝炎为主,占62.10%;通过实施社区卫生服务,传染病患者对实行社区传染病管理的认可率明显提高(由45.69%上升到70.54%)。结论 社区卫生服务的合理实施可有效地控制传染病的漏报,使社区中传染病得到有效的管理。  相似文献

Ethical practice guidelines (EPGs) were developed for use in Central Sydney Area Mental Health Service to guide contemporary mental health nursing practice and serve as a resource for clinical mental health nurses in relation to their professional conduct and practice. This survey of mental health nurses aimed to ascertain feedback on the application of the EPGs in the clinical arena. Nurses from the Central Sydney Area Mental Health Service ( n = 350) were asked to complete a 15-item survey developed by the authors. A total of 121 nurses completed the survey. Findings from the survey reveal that the information provided in the EPGs is useful (91%) and the EPGs provide sufficient guidance for practice (94%). Most respondents (96%) reported feeling confident dealing with ethical practice situations and 75% indicated interest in further education and training in this domain. Findings from this survey support the need to explore avenues to facilitate education, discussion and reflective practice in relation to ethical mental health nursing practice .  相似文献

BACKGROUND: While contemporary ethical theory is of tremendous value to nursing, the extent to which such theory has been informed by the concerns and practices of nurses has been limited. PURPOSE: With a view to complementing extant ethical theory, a study was undertaken to explore, from the perspective of nurses, the meaning of ethics and the enactment of ethical practice in nursing. DESIGN AND METHODS: Located in the interpretive/constructivist paradigm, using an emergent design, this inquiry employed focus groups to collect the data. Eighty-seven nurses from a wide range of practice settings were interviewed in 19 focus groups of three to nine nurses each. FINDINGS: The nurses described ethics in their practice as both a way of being and a process of enactment. They described drawing on a wide range of sources of moral knowledge in a dynamic process of developing awareness of themselves as moral agents. Enacting moral agency involved working in a shifting moral context, and working in-between their own values and those of the organizations in which they worked, in-between their own values and those of others, and in-between competing values and interests. CONCLUSIONS: Analysis of the experiences and concerns of the nurses offered new understanding of ethics in nursing and direction for the development of ethical theory pertinent to nursing practice.  相似文献

Electronic health records (EHRs), with their adoption incentivized as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, are now a ubiquitous part of the health care landscape. Although these systems promised to improve the quality of patient care, increase efficiency, and reduce costs, health care providers are finding that current EHRs instead require time-consuming data entry, can interfere with patient interactions, and cause medical errors. Nurse practitioners should implement practical tips and best practices for navigating and successfully using EHRs, as well as risk management strategies to ensure better patient care and avoid malpractice litigation or licensing issues.  相似文献

Quality in health care and ethical principles The last three decades have seen rapid changes in the way United States of America (USA) health care has been delivered, financed and regulated. Four major stakeholders have emerged in the health care debate: patients, providers, payers and public regulatory agencies. These groups do not agree on a definition of quality health care. This paper suggests five ethical principles - autonomy, justice, beneficence, non-maleficence, and prudence - be included in the framework of quality health care. A framework that outlines possible relationships among these ethical attributes and four major stakeholders is presented.  相似文献
