The larval head widths at each instar, life cycles, and food habits of late instars were determined for five species of Rhyacophila from two Appalachian mountain streams in South Carolina, U.S.A. Rhyacophila acutiloba Morse & Ross was univoltine with two cohorts, one emerging in the spring and another presumably emerging in early autumn. Rhyacophila fuscula (Walker), R. nigrita Banks, and R. carolina Banks were apparently multicohort, univoltine species with extended flight periods. Rhyacophila minor Banks was univoltine with a spring emergence. All species were predaceous and consumed mainly Plecoptera nymphs and Trichoptera larvae.  相似文献

Hydrogen and a bioflocculant could be produced simultaneously by anaerobic culture of Enterobacter sp. BY-29. For production of hydrogen and the bioflocculant by cell culture of the bacterium in batch cultures, cultivation at 37 °C in a medium containing glucose as a carbon source and Polypepton as a nitrogen source was found to be suitable. In continuous production of hydrogen and the bioflocculant by cell culture or immobilized cells of the bacterium, the hydrogen production rate and hydrogen yield by the immobilized cells on porous glass beads in stirred and column reactors were higher than those by the cell culture in a stirred reactor. However, production of the bioflocculant by the cell culture was superior to that by the immobilized cells in continuous production.  相似文献

In situ bag experiments were performed during summer and autumn in a small acidic lake, Tibbs Run Lake, West Virginia, USA. The objective was to evaluate phytoplankton responses to pH manipulation and nutrient addition. Increasing the pH from below 4.5 to over 6.3 resulted in great declines in phytoplankton biovolume. There was also a succession from dinoflagellates (Peridinium inconspicuum to small chlorophytes. The trend was more rapid where phosphorus (P) additions were made along with pH enhancement. During summer, P limitation was indicated, while nitrogen (N) appeared to limit production in autumn. In both seasons, nutrient additions greatly altered the phytoplankton composition in high pH treatments, but had no discernable effects at (the natural) low pH. A low pH, P addition treatment in autumn was the single exception. When N was subsequently added, phytoplankton composition changed dramatically, probably because the proceeding P additions caused severe secondary N-limitation. In general, however, the results supported the view that phytoplankton compositional responses to nutrient additions are suppressed in low pH, relative to high pH lake water.  相似文献

We studied searching behaviour of Diomus sp., a coccinellid predator introduced into Africa as a natural enemy of the cassava mealybug, when searching on cassava leaves, and compared its behaviour with the searching behaviour of Exochomus sp., an African predator of mealybugs (MB's). Female adults of Diomus and Exochomus spent more time searching on cassava leaves previously infested with cassava MB than on clean cassava leaves, in response to substances produced by MB's (wax and/or honeydew) still present on these leaves as kairomones after removal of the MB's. Both species were also arrested by wax and/or honeydew of the citrus mealybug, Planococcus citri. When offered a choice between kairomones of both MB species only experienced Diomus (reared on cassava MB) showed a clear preference for kairomone of cassava MB. Separate influences of wax and honeydew were tested. Wax from cassava MB was an arrestment stimulus for both coccinellid species. Honeydew produced by cassava MB arrested Exochomus and inexperienced Diomus.
Zusammenfassung Das Suchverhalten auf Cassaveblätter des coccinelliden Raübers Diomus, eines aus Süd Amerika importierten natürlichen Feindes der Cassaveschmierlaus wurde studiert und verglichen mit dem Suchverhalten eines afrikanischen Räubers von Schmierläusen, Exochomus sp.. Weiblichen Adulten von Diomus un Exochomus verwendeten mehr Zeit auf Cassaveblätter wenn diese Blätter vorher mit Cassaveschmierläuse infiziert waren als auf uninfizierte Blätter, und gebrauchten Substanzen (Wachs und/oder Honigtau) die von Schmierläuse produziert wurden und nach der Entfernung der Schmierläuse auf die Blätter zugeblieben waren als Kairomonen.Beide Arten wurden auch von Wachs und/oder Honigtau der Citrusschmierlaus, Planococcus citri, auf den Blätter arretiert. Wenn die Tiere wahlen könnten zwischen Kairomone der beiden Schmierlausarten wurden die Kairomonen der Cassaveschmierlaus nur von erfahrenen Diomus-Individuen, die auf Cassaveschmierlaüse aufgezogen wurden, bevorzugt.Die Einflüsse von Wachs und Honigtau wurden separat geprüft. Wachs von Exuvien der Cassaveschmierlaus ist ein Arretierungsstimulus für beide Räuberarten. Von Cassaveschmierläusen produzierten Honigtau arretierte Exochomus-und unerfahrene Diomus-Individuen.

Two types of new anaerobic bacteria were isolated from anoxic freshwater sediments. They grew in mineral medium with oxalate as sole energy source and with acetate as main carbon source. Oxalate as well as oxamate (after deamination) were decarboxylated to formate with growth yields of 1.2–1.4 g dry cell matter per mol oxalate degraded. No other organic or inorganic substrates were used, and no electron acceptors were reduced. Strain WoOx3 was a Gramnegative, non-sporeforming, motile vibrioid rod with a guanine-plus-cytosine content of the DNA of 51.6 mol%. It resembled the previously described genus Oxalobacter, and is described as a new species, O. vibrioformis. Strain AltOx1 was a Gram-positive, spore-forming, motile rod with a DNA base ratio of 36.3 mol% guanine-plus-cytosine. This isolate is described as a new species of the genus Clostridium, C. oxalicum.  相似文献

A motile, Gram-positive, slightly halophilic, endospore-forming, catalase- and oxidase-positive, obligately aerobic, slender rod-shaped bacterium, strain YIM-C229T was isolated from the sediment of a salt lake in the Qaidam Basin, north-west China. Filamentous forms were present throughout the growth cycle. Strain YIM-C229T grew in the presence of 0.5-8% NaCl and at pH 6.0-8.5, with optimum growth at 1-3% NaCl and pH 7.0-7.5. It grew at 4-45 degrees C, with optimum growth at 37 degrees C. The major cellular fatty acids were anteiso-C15:0, C16:0, iso-C15:0, C16:1 omega11c and anteiso-C(17:0). The predominant respiratory quinone was MK-7, and diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylglycerol were the polar lipids, with meso-diaminopimelic acid occurring in the cell-wall peptidoglycan. The genomic DNA G+C content was 40.9 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain YIM-C229T was closely related to the type strains of the four recognized species of the genus Gracilibacillus: G. halotolerans NN T (sequence similarity 95.5%), G. dipsosauri DD1T (96.1%), G. orientalis XH-63T (96.8%) and G. boraciitolerans T-16X(T) (99.1%). The DNA-DNA relatedness between strain YIM-C229(T) and G. boraciitolerans DSM 17256(T) was 30.8%. The combination of phylogenetic analysis, phenotypic characteristics, chemotaxonomic differences and DNA-DNA hybridization data supported the view that this strain represented a novel species of the genus Gracilibacillus, for which the name Gracilibacillus quinghaiensis sp. nov. is proposed, with YIM-C229T (=DSM 17858T=CGMCC 1.6304T) as the type strain.  相似文献

The spawning site of the fluvial eight-barbel loach, Lefua sp. (sensu Hosoya, 1993; Japanese name: nagare-hotoke-dojo), an endangered species, was investigated by searching for fertilized eggs in June and July 1995–1997 in an upper reach of the Kako River, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. We obtained one egg each by a random sampling with agitating the river bottom (80 trials) and by collecting drift samples (89 trials). This finding indicates that the eggs were not scattered on the bottom or into the water column after being spawned. Two individual males were observed to patrol around particular interstices occurring under the buried cobbles and under the boulders that formed the riverbank. Males pecked other individuals that approached around the interstices. We obtained 9 and 15 eggs, respectively, from two such interstices in only two collection trials. The interstices were suggested to function as the spawning sites of this endangered fish in nature.  相似文献

Candida antarctica (sp. SY16) required avegetable oil as the carbon source to produce a biosurfactant, mannosylerythritol lipid (MEL-SY16). Biosurfactant production was 31 g l–1 after 7 days in a batch culture and was not growth associated. In a two-stage culture, glycerol and oleic acid were used as an initial and a feeding carbon source, respectively, and 41 g l–1 biosurfactant was produced after 8 days.  相似文献

At Big Run Bog, aSphagnum-dominated peatland in the unglaciated Appalachian Plateau of West Virginia, significant spatial variation in the physical and chemical properties of the peat and in surface and subsurface (30 cm deep) water chemistry was characterized. The top 40 cm of organic peat at Big Run Bog had average values for bulk density of 0.09 g · cm–3, organic matter concentration of 77%, and volumetric water content of 88%. Changes in physical and chemical properties within the peat column as a function of depth contributed to different patterns of seasonal variation in the chemistry of surface and subsurface waters. Seasonal variation in water chemistry was related to temporal changes in plant uptake, organic matter decomposition and element mineralization, and to varying redox conditions associated with fluctuating water table levels. On the average, total Ca, Mg, and N concentrations in Big Run Bog peat were 33, 15, and 1050 mol · g–1, respectively; exchangeable Ca and Mg concentrations were 45 and 14 eq · g–1 , respectively. Surface water pH averaged 4.0 and Ca++ concentrations were less than 50 eq · L–1 . These chemical variables have all been used to distinguish bogs from fens. Physiographically, Big Run Bog is a minerotrophic fen because it receives inputs of water from the surrounding forested upland areas of its watershed. However, chemically, Big Run Bog is more similar to true ombrotrophic bogs than to minerotrophic fens.  相似文献

A novel actinobacterium, designated strain MSW-19T, was isolated from a seawater sample in Republic of Korea. Cells were aerobic, Gram-positive, non-endospore-forming, and non-motile cocci. Colonies were circular, convex, opaque, and vivid yellow in colour. A phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences exhibited that the organism formed a distinct clade within the radius encompassing representatives of the family Propionibacteriaceae. The phylogenetic neighbors were the type strains of the genera Friedmanniella, Microlunatus, Micropruina, Propionicicella, and Propionicimonas. Levels of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity between the isolate and members of the family were less than 95.3%. The cell wall peptidoglycan of the organism contained LL-diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid. The isolate contained MK-9(H4) as the predominant menaquinone, ai-C15:0 as the major fatty acid and polar lipids including phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, and an unknown phospholipid. The G+C content of the DNA was 69.6 mol%. On the basis of the phenotypic and phylogenetic data presented here, the isolate is considered to represent a novel genus and species in the family Propionibacteriaceae, for which the name Ponticoccus gilvus gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. Two strains of xylose-containing and Q-10-having ballistoconidiogenous yeasts isolated from plant leaves collected in Taiwan were found to represent two new species of the genus Bullera. In the phylogenetic trees based on the sequence analysis of 18S rDNA and D1/D2 domain of 26S rDNA, these species are located in the Bullera variabilis (Bulleribasidum) cluster in Hymenomycetes. They are described as Bullera begoniae sp. nov. and Bullera setariae sp. nov., respectively.  相似文献

【目的】对我国西藏地区来源的不同酵母菌株进行有机酸发酵性能测试,此外,对具有良好产酸性能的分离自松萝内部的酿酒酵母菌株Saccharomy cescerevisiae 2-2进行耐酸性能分析,并探究其耐酸较强的分子机制。【方法】比较不同糖浓度培养基液体发酵培养过程中pH的变化,并比较低pH胁迫条件下菌株的生长,检测酿酒酵母菌株的产酸潜力和耐酸特性;对菌株2-2和模式酵母菌株S288C进行比较基因组分析,并利用实时荧光定量聚合酶链式反应(real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction,RT-qPCR)分析关键基因的转录,探究菌株2-2耐酸分子机制。【结果】松萝内生酿酒酵母2-2在所有检测的菌株中产酸潜力较大,耐酸性能较好。在菌株2-2中与胁迫耐受性相关的基因PDR15、PDR12和SUR1在低pH胁迫条件下存在显著的上调或下调,但这些基因转录变化趋势与菌株S288C相反。【结论】松萝内生酿酒酵母2-2是一株产酸耐酸性能较好的菌株,对其独特的调节机制进行深入分析,有希望选育性能更好的产酸酵母菌株。  相似文献

An endospore-forming bacterium, designated strain B-16T, was isolated from a forest soil sample in Yunnan, China. The isolate presented remarkable nematotoxic activity against nematode Panagrellus redivivus. The organism was strictly aerobic, motile, spore forming and rod shaped, catalase- and oxidase-positive. The predominant isoprenoid quinone was menaquinone 7 (MK-7). The major cellular fatty acid profiles were anteiso-C15:0 (48.67%), iso-C15:0 (13.45%), C16:0 (9.06%) and anteiso-Cl7:0 (8.29%). The DNA G+C content was 46%. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rDNA sequence revealed that isolate belongs to the genus Bacillus. Strain B-16T exhibited high 16S rDNA similarity with its closest neighbors Bacillus vallismortis (99.79%), B. subtilis (99.43%), B. atrophaeus (99.43%), B. amyloliquefaciens (99.36%), B. licheniformis (98.0%) and less than 97.0% with all the other relative type strains in the genus Bacillus. The phenotypic and genotypic characteristics and DNA-DNA relatedness data indicate that strain B-16T should be distinguished from all the relative species of genus Bacillus. Therefore, on the basis of the polyphasic taxonomic data presented, a new species of the genus Bacillus, B. nematocida, with the type strain B-16T ( = CGMCC 1128T) is proposed. Respiration and excretion were measured relative to pH and aluminum in three nymphal weight groups of a detritivore caddisfly. Although a reduction in respiration rates was consistently observed within all stages exposed to a pH of 4 and 0.3 mg 1−1 of aluminum, the differencewas not statistically significant among treatments. Excretion rates, on the other hand, were significantly increased throughout the low pH treatment, but not when exposed to low pH and aluminum combined. The derived O:N ratios indicate low pH causes a shift to a protein-oriented metabolism which was most pronounced in the smallest size group. Aluminum mitigates this effect.  相似文献

A new species of the genus Habrobathynella Schminke, 1973, i.e. H. nagarjunai n.sp., is described from the groundwater of the Nagarjuna University campus near Guntur town, South India. One of the principal criteria in the original definition of Habrobathynella is amended to accommodate the new species. H. nagarjunai n.sp. differs from its three congeners, i.e. H. milloti (Delamare & Paulian, 1954), H. jeanneli (Delamare & Paulian, 1954) from Madagascar, and H. schminkei Reddy, 2002 from India, in several essential morphological details: the sympodite of uropod bears 8–10 similar spines; the apophysis on segment 4 of the antennule is short; of the two setae on the exopodite of uropod, one is apical and the other subapical in position; the basal segment of maxilla has three unequal setae; the male thoracopod VIII is relatively elongate. H. nagarjunai n. sp. is the second representative of the groundwater (eustygobiont) Bathynellacea in South Asia. Furthermore, a key to the identification of Habrobathynella spp. is given.  相似文献

【背景】红树林生态系统位于陆地和海洋的交汇地带,具有巨大的生态价值和经济效益。红树林内生真菌种类丰富,次生代谢产物结构多样、活性优异,是小分子天然产物和药物研发的重要来源。【目的】从湛江红树林植物样品分离、鉴定和筛选内生真菌,分离筛选菌株Stemphyliums sp. SCSIO 40436次生代谢产物并进行活性筛选。【方法】基于ITS序列鉴定种属研究内生真菌多样性;通过高效液相色谱和滤纸片扩散法筛选大米和燕麦固体培养基培养菌株的化学多样性及抑菌活性。应用硅胶、凝胶和反相色谱等色谱学方法分离纯化;应用高分辨质谱、核磁、X射线单晶衍射、圆二色谱等波谱手段确定化合物的平面结构与立体构型;采用微量肉汤稀释法测定分离化合物的最小抑菌浓度。【结果】从湛江高桥红树林植物样品分离纯化获得52株内生真菌,通过ITS序列比对归属于29个属。筛选到菌株Stemphylium sp. Thirteen yeast strains were isolated from deep-sea sediment samples collected at a depth of 4500 m to 6500 m in the Japan Trench. Amongst them, strain N6 possessed high tolerance against Cu2+ and could grow on yeast extract/peptone/dextrose/agar containing 50 mM CuSO4. Analysis of the 18S rDNA sequence indicates strain N6 belongs to the genus Cryptococcus. In contrast, the type strain of C. albidus, a typical marine yeast Rhodotorula ingeniosa and Saccharomyces cerevisiae did not grow at high concentrations of CuSO4. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) catalyzes the scavenging of superoxide radicals. The activity of SOD in cell extract of strain N6 was very weak (<1 mU g–1 total protein) when the strain was grown in the absence of CuSO4. However, the activity was stimulated (25.8 mU g–1 total protein) when cells were grown with 1 mM CuSO4 and further enhanced to 110 mU g–1 total protein with 10 mM CuSO4. Catalase activity was increased only 1.4 or 1.1-fold with 1 mM or 10 mM CuSO4 in the growth medium, respectively. These results suggest that SOD may have a role in the defensive mechanisms against high concentrations of CuSO4 in strain N6.  相似文献

Asiatic clam, Corbicula fluminea, is often a serious pest where introduced and established outside its native range. This includes many canals of the southwestern U.S.A. Because of its potential role in organic matter processing, nutrient dynamics, and sedimentation, the clam is an important component of the benthic community and of the aquatic ecosystems which it inhabits. To better understand the ecology of Corbicula in canals, secondary production and life history of an introduced population of clams in a small, earthen canal in the Phoenix metropolitan area, central Arizona, were studied over a 12-month period in 1981–1982. Clams had a monthly mean density of 2 255 m–2, single annual spawning, 2 year life span, and overlapping cohorts. Annual secondary production (size-frequency method) was 25.62 g DM m–2 and cohort production (composite Allen curve) was 29.32 g DM m–2, with turnover ratios of 2.70 and 5.81, respectively. These are among the highest known single-species estimates for molluscs, and illustrate the importance of clams in these unique southwestern aquatic systems.  相似文献

An obligatory alkalophilic Bacillus sp. P-2, which produced a thermostable alkaline protease was isolated by selective screening from water samples. Protease production at 30 °C in static conditions was highest (66 U/ml) when glucose (1% w/v) was used with combination of yeast extract and peptone (0.25% w/v, each), in the basal medium. Protease production by Bacillus sp. P-2 was suppressed up to 90% when inorganic nitrogen sources were supplemented in the production medium. Among the various agro-byproducts used in different growth systems (solid state, submerged fermentation and biphasic system), wheat bran was found to be the best in terms of maximum enhancement of protease yield as compared to rice bran and sunflower seed cake. The protease was optimally active at pH 9.6, retaining more than 80% of its activity in the pH range of 7–10. The optimum temperature for maximum protease activity was 90 °C. The enzyme was stable at 90 °C for more than 1h and retained 95 and 37% of its activity at 99 °C and 121 °C, respectively, after 1 h. The half-life of protease at 121 °C was 47 min.  相似文献
